Palazzo Velabro (Rome, Lazio) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Legend says Rome’s story began where Palazzo Velabro now stands, on the spot where mythical twins Romulus and Remus first touched land. Today, an 18th-century residence overlooking the Arch of Janus has been artfully transformed into an elegant sanctuary where the past and present collide beautifully. In the frescoed lobby, hand-painted ripples by Edoardo Piermattei evoke the river’s eternal current, while bedrooms painted in blush, cobalt, and sage frame postcard views of the Forum. After catching a Fellini classic in the hotel’s private cinema, slip upstairs to the terrace with an Aperol Spritz in hand, taking in one of Rome’s most iconic views." - Tablet Hotels

Palazzo Velabro is truly a wonderful hidden gem. Tucked away in a quiet, historic pocket of the city, the location strikes the perfect balance: it's central enough to walk to all the major sights, yet peaceful and removed from the typical hustle and bustle. It’s a rare find in Rome. The rooms are impressively spacious, well-designed and thoughtfully appointed. You really feel like you have a comfortable retreat to return to after a day of exploring the city. While my stay was excellent overall, there are a couple of areas that could be improved. The front desk staff were professional and courteous but they came off as a bit cold. A warmer, more welcoming presence would go a long way in making guests feel more at home. Also, the breakfast was decent, not bad at all but the selection was somewhat limited. A bit more variety would elevate the experience. Still, these are minor points in what was otherwise a fantastic stay. If you're looking for a stylish, serene place to stay in Rome that’s close to everything yet away from the crowds, Palazzo Velabro is a fantastic choice.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for four nights and really enjoyed it. The location is perfect and central—we walked everywhere. The staff was so kind and helpful. The room was luxe and so very quiet, even with the busy street outside. The breakfast was delicious. Would recommend!

Great hotel in a convenient location. The staff was very accommodating even prior to our arrival. They were helpful in setting up a car service from the port and to the airport for our departure. Upon arrival, one of the employees assisted with all of our bags. Our room was a 1 bedroom suite with plenty of room for a family of three. The hotel was clean and the A/C worked great. We had breakfast included and enjoyed the food selections each morning. The location was ideal for walking to the popular sites.

This hotel is distinguished by its location near the Roman Forum, Circus Maximus and Coliseum. You are also nearly on top of the Arco di Gianno and the Chisea San Giorgio. The service is also excellent and the front desk helped us book numerous private tours. We opted for a larger suite which had a living area and kitchenette. The restaurant serves a light breakfast with eggs to order. We also ate there one evening and enjoyed our dinner greatly. I had a traditional oxtail ragu over pappardelle.

It’s been a few months since our stay and we had forgotten to review after traveling. But our stay was so amazing we remembered and wanted to make sure we left this. It was a trip for our first anniversary and the staff made it almost more memorable than the city itself. We arrived early from our flight and they held our bags until our rooms were ready, which was less than a hour. They even upgraded us for our anniversary since we were staying for a week. I can’t quite remember her name I think it was Georgia at the front desk but EVERYONE DAY she greeted us departing and arriving. She gave us absolute amazing recommendations. Apicio 16 inside of the hotel was a gem in its own. I can’t stop raving about how amazing this place was.

Our 4 night stay at Palazzo Velabro was wonderful! Our room was spacious and had a large balcony that overlooked a garden and faced the Palatine Hill. Even though the hotel was near an intersection, we found the room to be very quiet. Since we only had a few days in the city, and I'm a major Roman history buff, location was a major factor in booking. The hotel is within close walking distance to several historical sites including Circus Maximus, the Capitoline Hill, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. We also had no problem walking up to the Pantheon or Baths of Caracalla. The Tiber River is right across the street as is the bridge to Trastevere. We had breakfast and dinner at the Apicio 16 restaurant downstairs and had great food and service each time. The entire hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, setting up taxi rides and offering to help us make restaurant reservations.

We loved our stay at Palazzo Velabro. The location was so convenient - a short walk to the Coliseum and Monti neighborhood and just across the river from Trastevere. Our room was a great value - much bigger than I expected and with a real king size bed rather than two twins pushed together. On Thursday nights in the summer they offer jazz on their terrace. We luckily got to indulge and enjoy apertivos--drinks with some delicious snacks included--and a gorgeous view. The downside was we were given an accessible room, so the shower--although wonderful with a overhead waterfall shower head--was rather small and the doors opened in a way that got the entire bathroom wet when you showered. We only stayed for two nights, and everything else about the room was great, so I didn't request another room. There are several stairs leading up to the hotel and leading to the elevators, so if you have heavy luggage or mobility challenges, I might suggest staying elsewhere.

We had an amazing stay here while in Rome. The staff was attentive, helpful, and kind. The rooms were spacious and the kitchenette (with electric kettle, nespresso machine, stovetop, dishwasher, sink, and cookware & dishes) and living area was good for relaxing or taking a break between activities. Everything was clean and comfortable. The bed was perfect, with a nice variety of pillows. This would be a ten out of ten even on the outskirts of the city, but good news: it’s not! The location is the real star, making this hotel worth every euro! Almost everything is walkable from here. It’s also near a bus stop which has been very easy to use to get a little bit further from the center of the city. Consider the time, hassle, and transport costs you won’t be spending. More time to just explore this beautiful city. And just out front of thee hotel is the Arch of Janus—what a view. We will be staying here again when we return.

Yelp
Loved this hotel in Rome! Perfect location - easy to visit all the top attractions. Bus stops are nearby too. You do have to go up a small set of stairs with your luggage but once you arrive, the hotel is very modern and service is excellent. I booked using my Marriot Bonvoy points and was acknowledged as a Gold Elite member. The room was spacious with all the amenities you may need. There's also a restaurant and gym downstairs.

Yelp
A Bonvoy property that feels more like a boutique hotel, nestled in the shadows of Arco di Janus with incredibly helpful staff, gorgeous suites and spacious rooms at an affordable price. Don't be put off by photos of the outside. No, this isn't palatial like the Hassler, but inside is gorgeous, clean and modern. Only slight downside is that it's not easily accessible (after all, it's in an ancient part of town) so keep that in mind when booking if you need special accommodations. You need to go up steps (or a car can come around the back and up the old ramp). They will send someone to help you with luggage if you need it. Location is so perfect, as it's a block from the Mouth of Truth and 10 minutes from the Capitoline Museum and Forum, and less than 30 to the Colosseum and other key sights in Rome. We stayed here a total of 6 nights, split into two legs of our trip because we were flying in and out of Rome. Upon checking in when the staff learned it was my birthday, they upgraded us to a spacious suite (also because I'm a Bonvoy member). When we entered the room, I couldn't believe it. Two enormous rooms, with a living room/kitchen and bedroom with a (real, not split) King sized bed. I felt like I was in a Texas hotel room (hotel rooms always seem so huge in Dallas). European hotel rooms remind me of Manhattan hotel rooms so I'm used to a smaller space. This set-up blew me away. Although we never used the kitchen, it was the perfect size (and even had a dishwasher). It also had a small balcony with a table and chairs. Amenities are in line with any boutique hotel from the high end bath products to the crisp linens and plush bed. Let's not forget my favorite amenity: bathrobes! The gym is small but honestly, I can't imagine using a gym when walking over 15 miles a day all over Rome (there's hills, too!) Coolest and most unique amenity has to be the movie theater with popcorn, etc. We didn't partake but I loved this. I have a feeling you'd have the entire theater to yourselves, too. What I loved about our second stay was that the room overlooked the Arch of Janus. So magical and the perfect ending to our trip in Italy. I will forever cherish this hotel and hope to be able to stay again in the future.

Yelp
Amazing location, professional service and accommodations. Hotel is newly renovated with modern everything (bathrooms, AC, etc). We especially enjoyed a late night dinner at the hotel's outdoor restaurant on the 1st floor patio.
