What may look like an unassuming cafe from the street is actually one of Toronto's best new live music venues.
The back patio, under the canopy of giant trees, is literally one of the coolest, vibiest places to catch a live performance. The roster leans hard to World Music, usually with jazz influences, and features amazing musicians from the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and beyond. They also host DJs. With the trees overhead and the amazing selection of talent (and the occasional firepit), the back patio at Pamenar is simply a magical place with an ambiance that seems to transform--from chilled concert to full-blown club--depending on the band and the crowd that night.
In the daytime, in season, the back patio is simply a beautiful, sunny (if rustic) place to enjoy a coffee or cold bev.
Beyond the delicious selection of coffees, lattes, etc., they also have an impressive list of gins and other spirits. I discovered Malfi gin here, which I quite enjoy on the rocks. Another drink I highly recommend is Sekanjabin, a SUPER refreshing clear drink made with mint, an Iranian recipe apparently. So good on its own or with a shot of gin.
Anyhoo, I loves me some Pamenar! You should too.
