A Guide to Sonoma Food and Accommodations

"A distinctive tasting room housed in a renovated historic building with handsome interiors—deep leather sofas, cobblestone walls, and towering redwood pillars—where a rotating selection of wines is available exclusively on site. The portfolio is diverse but notable for full-bodied Pinot Noirs from Anderson Valley, making it a compelling stop for serious wine tasting in a stylish, intimate setting." - Julia Heffelfinger

My husband and I visited Pangloss Cellars about a year ago for a tasting and were immediately won over by our amazing host, Alissa. Her warm, compassionate approach made the entire experience feel personal and genuine, so much so that we signed up for a membership on the spot. It’s honestly one of the best wine club decisions we’ve ever made. Pangloss is family-owned, and that spirit is felt every time we visit. The staff not only remember us, they ask about our family, our travels, and even remember special dates. It truly feels like a second home. The location is another huge bonus: right on the Sonoma Square, where you can legally sip your wine outdoors. Surrounded by top-notch restaurants, friendly locals, and gorgeous weather, Pangloss offers a one-of-a-kind tasting room experience that we can’t recommend highly enough. Every visit is memorable, and every pour is a reminder of why we joined. Cheers to many more years!

Loved the site, the ambiance and the service. And of course, the wine 🤌🏾 First time in Sonoma, we were walking by and it looked amazing so we waked in to grab a glass of wine. Our Ryan host was super nice, and very knowledgeable.

Google
The building is beautiful but not worth the tasting. We chose the Pangloss tasting as we were in Pangloss. Our server quickly tried to upsell us to the Repris tasting (another winery partner) since we like bolder reds. We opted to stick with the plan since the Repris is double the price and we aren't cheap but the $40 a tasting we were spending in essentially a bar tasting wines was already enough. The wines were ok and came quick one right after the other. Our Tasting was at the end of the day (4:00) and you could tell the staff wanted to wrap it up.

Google
While they say they take walk-ins, I highly recommend making a reservation. The staff seemed disheveled to the point we were sitting there for ten minutes before we were acknowledged. Once we were, the tasting was quite nice. There was a wide array to taste, and all around the room it seemed everyone was getting the charcuterie or caviar boards to accompany their wine. Beautiful Sonoma Square tasting room, but plenty of others in the area with better quality.

Google
Wonderful experience. We were hosted by Martha who was knowledgeable, attentive and welcoming. The wines were definitely a cut above the norm. If you're visiting the historic Sonoma town square, a stop at Pangloss is a must!

Google
Our tasting was held outside due to covid, and we felt they did a great job with the seating arrangements, presentation, and feel. The wines were vibrant and flavorful, though maybe not as complex as we would have liked. It was very nice sipping wine while looking out to the plaza and passersby!

Google
Beautiful atmosphere, great wine and even better service. Aiden was knowledgeable, funny and took excellent care of our party of 3. We were originally set to go to a different winery, but so glad we went to Pangloss. One of our favorite stops in Sonoma. We will be back!

Cynthia H.

Google
Good wines, beautiful setting, amazing service, a bit pricey for the tasting. Our tasting fees were $50 each for five tasting. We enjoyed the setting, the feeling of relaxing and not rushed from one taste to the next. Our sommelier was wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and a great sense of humor. She will be missed when she leaves for Texas.

Yelp
First off, the historic building alone, will impress. So many sections, to just either chill on a lovely sofa, chair or sit at the U-shaped tasting bar. Come in for a glass, or tasting. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will provide a friendly chat, if you prefer. Or, just sit on your own and enjoy a respite located on the most saught after corner, on the Square. Caitlin & Ryan are extremely welcoming and professional. As well as all staff. I got to try their white varietals (Sauvignon Blanc is very nice) , as well, they were gracious enough to let me taste a couple light reds. (I'll be back for a full tasting w a friend, soon) Lovely complexity to the Pinot's, but great for an everyday bottle, so you always remind yourself, to treat yo self. Try - to start: White: Appreciation Reds: Tenacity & 2020 Pinot This will def continue to be my first stop, when I'm in town!

Yelp
Brilliant experience. Walked in straight to the bar. 2021 Blanc de Noire is fire. Lindsey took great care of us. Don't skip!

Yelp
Great experience, friendly staff, wine was delicious and we left with a bottle after a 2 hour tasting. We didn't finish in the 90 minutes but were allowed to move to a high top to finish. Our server providing us with a few additional tastings off menu based on our conversation. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Wife and I visited on a last minute decision to take a weekend motorcycle trip to Sonoma. We were expecting a vineyard environment rather than a tasing room (Sonoma was new for us, traveling from South Bay) but we were taken by the small town vibe and decided to give it a shot. The hostess greeted us (I forgot her name sadly!) and helped us get settled at a table, being professional and yet casual at the same time (this is difficult to balance, but she did it well). Not to be outdone, our host Aiden also displayed a strong tact and wit as he described each if the wines we sampled in turn, presentation being well rehearsed and polished. My wife and I sampled both sets of wines on offer (Classic and Optimist), being allowed to sample each other's flight as well as our own, which gave us a broad range of flavors. The cheese and charcuterie board we ordered up also complimented the wines and was a good way to help give our stomachs something to keep busy on. All in all, we loved our experience, and would very much recommend Pangloss if you're in the area!

Yelp
This tasting room is outstanding! My wife and I did not make reservations because we intended to order a glass of wine and the charcuterie board for lunch. The atmosphere is amazing. It's in downtown Sonoma, but when you walk inside you are transported to a different place. It's like being in a modern Italian villa. It's quiet and relaxing. We sat at the spacious bar. Jose took wonderful care of us. He was attentive, caring, and generous. Through conversation, he gave us a guided tasting as he let us try several different wines in addition to the Cabernet we ordered. He was so smooth that we purchased a membership before we left! We loved their Cabernet and Pinot Noir. BTW, the charcuterie plate was excellent too. This is a must-stop, especially if you want wine by the glass.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Courtney took great care of us today. So friendly and informative, we had a great discussion of how the growing conditions of the vines influence the taste of the wines. Wonderful Wines - we will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Service, ambiance and quality of the wine was top notch. We had a wonderful host who made us laugh and feel great. She looked like Wonder Woman!!! I would go back to this venue just to see her again.

Yelp
We were visiting Sonoma on Saturday, we had some early mornings than ended up early and someone local recommended this spot, when we walked in they were very welcoming, we got offered a table but we rather sit in the bar, and I'm so glad we did! We had a blast! We really needed this time to relax and enjoy ourselves, I think we stayed (overstayed) for about 4 hours, Carmelita was amazing, she really walked us through Sonoma and Moon mountain. The whole staff were also friendly and they look like they enjoy what they do, they were awesome! It was a first for us, we usually go to Napa for wine tasting but this experience was completely different and the wine was delicious!!! I specially love their Pinot Noir and My husband loved their Merlot 19' . We even became members and now we have a reason to come back and visit Sonoma. Looking forward to the next visit, thank you for making our day, what was meant to be a boring meeting ended up being the highlight of our weekend! Cheers

Yelp
Disappointing experience, we were really looking forward to our visit, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we were invisible. No warm welcome, no explanation of the wines--just a general sense that our presence wasn't valued. Oddly enough, the only time we felt any real attention was when the bill came--suddenly, there was interest, small talk, and a smile. It felt disingenuous, as if the service only kicked in once a tip was on the line. The Sauvignon Blanc was mediocre. 2 stars because the venue is nice and it was lively.

Yelp
This is a great spot to stop in when in downtown Sonoma. It is just the tasting room so get a reservation if there will be a large group. We loved our waitress/tour guide. Plenty of white, red, and everything in between for the wine lovers and also great small bite options.

Yelp
Everything about Pangloss Cellars is what you would expect from the hospitality of Sonoma. From the warm smile of Maddie at the door, to the hospitality and knowledge of Jose and Alisa, Pangloss delivers a warm welcome and positive experience to novice and wine conosiuers alike. Be sure and add a Cheese and Charcuterie board!

Yelp
Pangloss is a must stop when visiting Sonoma! Their location is absolutely perfect. One of the few areas where you don't need to drive to visit multiple wineries. Their tasting room is absolutely stunning. Reservations are required, but it's well worth the little extra planning. Their wine portfolio is fabulous they have a little something for everyone! The entire team there is amazing! Everyone is warm and welcoming. I've tasted with a few different hosts and have never had a bad experience. Or even a mediocre experience. Everything has been top notch! I highly recommend visiting Pangloss on your next wine tasting adventure!
google avatar

Tawnya B.

Yelp
My close friend and I recently visited and had a wonderful time. The wine was delicious, charcuterie board perfect (and customized to be vegetarian) and our server was knowledgeable and friendly.. The tasting room is cozy and sophisticated. We couldn't ask for anything more.
google avatar

Yelp
Didn't try the food and didn't try the wine. In fact we didn't go in at all because the hostess was a pompous ass. I'm not saying don't go there but there are plenty of places in this town with nice people and good customer service.

Yelp
We went to Pangloss Cellars for an office outing. It is nestled in the cute downtown part of Sonoma. The inside has beautiful stone walls and high ceilings. The Rose was my favorite of the tastings. The charcuterie board was tasty. The host assigned to us was very friendly. The only downside is that it was really pricey. It's nice for a special occasion.
google avatar

Laura E.

Yelp
I visited pangloss with my friend one Saturday. We arrived shortly before they opened but once we stepped inside it was so welcoming! There is beautiful exposed stone on one wall and it had super cute fall decorations everywhere. We did a tasting and ordered a charcuterie board. The charcuterie was very tasty. The wines were very nice as well! The brut rose was one of my favorites as it was very refreshing. I also really enjoyed their cab franc. At the end of our tasting they brought out the cutest little churro! It was not my favorite but it was a very sweet touch. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Sonoma!

Yelp
we had a wonderful experience at Pangloss Cellars on a sunny Thursday afternoon in Sonoma. This spot came up on tock during my winery search and I'm so glad it did! Cannot say enough about the service! We were over an hour late to our reservation due to Bay Area traffic and they graciously moved our timing without issue. Upon arrival there was plenty of space but still felt bustling for a Thursday The interior is really beautiful and made us feel very calm & classy lol! Shoutout to Ethan who was so knowledgeable, accommodating, and honestly really funny! Our friend who was visiting even mentioned she hasn't had such great service on a tasting before. The wines were excellent and the charcuterie board has such a great mix of items from local craft cheese/food shops in the area. Overall, fabulous experience and a must see in downtown in Sonoma!
google avatar

Yelp
Aidan took rest care of us for a fabulous wine flight! He was sweet and just the right amount of chatty. The glasses came out with a great cadence so we never felt rushed or thirsty. Aidan also checked on allergies before we ordered the charcuterie platter and he instantly fixed a small problem with it. Beautiful spot and impeccable service.

Catalina C.

Yelp
Great place for a wine tasting, Lindsay was incredible, well knowledgeable. over all, a place to visit in the Sonoma area!

Jackson T.

Yelp
Staff members were incredibly rude and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. Their attitude made the entire experience uncomfortable, and it felt like we were more of a burden than guests.
google avatar

Neave M.

Yelp
Great service and ambiance! the charcuterie boards were super yummy and the wine was delicious. Our server was incredibly informative and we were in an out in under an hour. Definitely recommend

Yelp
A friend suggested this destination for our visit to Sonoma, so we selected it as our first stop to sample the wines of the region. The inside tasting room is beautiful and cozy, but it was an unseasonably warm February evening, so we asked to sit outside on their spacious deck. Steven was our server and he truly made the experience for us. He offered great suggestions, answered all of our wine related questions and just made our whole visit very enjoyable. There are two tasting menus to choose from, so we chose one of each to allow us to taste the biggest variety. We also ordered the charcuterie board, to give us something to nibble on while we tasted our wines. While this is definitely a different experience that visiting an actual winery, it was a great start to a fun evening in town and enjoy a broad selection of wines.
google avatar

Mikey H.

Yelp
Dang Mikey, go here much? Birthday season and a much needed tasting from one of the best places in Sonoma! Christina was our host and was so much fun! Unfortunately, we couldn't taste the Malbec, but I love Malbecs so I ordered one and of course the Moon Mountain cabernet, Optimism, and the sparking Chenin Blanc! We even got to say hi to Ethan who was working a big event on their outside space. Thank you Pangloss for another great experience!

Brielle P.

Yelp
This winery felt like your old soul OG wine tasting!! Not only is the location perfectly situated downtown, the building is GORGEOUS and such a VIBE!! Wines were all fantastic and our server made the experience top notch. The detail he explained about each wine was educational and captivating! Aiden 100% made the experience intimate with his knowledge about the wines and his willingness to spend time talking about each wine with us. Finally, the experience was not rushed in any way and felt very personable. 10/10 would recommend this winery to all my friends and family!!

Yelp
My husband and I visited Sonoma on our ten-year wedding anniversary trip. We visited Pangloss without a reservation, but they accommodated us right away. The building for the tasting room has some rich history, and the stone and bottle wall are very beautiful. We sat in cozy leather chairs near a fireplace for our tasting. I wish I got the name of our server, because he was fantastic! We shared a tasting, but he basically gave my husband and I a double-pour. We discovered some new varietals that we have never heard of in our native New York State. I would drink the sparkling Chenin Blanc all day! It is definitely my new summertime wine. Our server gave us great recommendations regarding other tasting rooms in the area, as well as restaurants.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the second visit to Pangloss and have definitely referred my travel and concierge clients here. I have to give a shout out to Alissa for making it a fun experience. We had dinner reservations at El Dorado Kitchen and was lucky enough to push back our reservation because we were just having too much of a good time with Elissa. We had a little lounge area and the wines were tasty. It is conveniently located at the square in Sonoma, it has an outdoor area and high ceilings. I hope to come back soon. Review #34 of 100 in 2023.

Yelp
Cannot say enough good things about Pangloss and being so graciously taken care of by Carmen from initial phone call to the hour and a half I spent in their downtown Sonoma tasting room. So personable and their hospitality was world class. I work with international clients and was truly blown away how she and Jose made me feel like I was the only person there (while obviously taking care of the other guests too!!) the quality of the wines is superb and the sparkling rose was magical. A lot of PN and Chardonnay exclusive producers up here so finding them with sparkling/whites/heavier reds was a dream come true! A+ and an easy top rate recommendation!
google avatar

Ngoc L.

Yelp
This is such a very nice place for conversation & enjoying good wines. We got a nice, big seating area during the tasting, our server is funny & walked us through with his knowledge about wines & the area. It was just a little corner in a small town but it is perfect well made with the wine tasting concept for hanging out with friends.
google avatar

Bridgette B.

Yelp
I have a good friend who lives up in Sonoma and each time I visit we hit up a few different wineries. This weekend the list included a stop at Pangloss and wow, what a fun experience. The environment and vibe is chill but classy, just a really fun place to hang with a group of friends, or go on a date. Not too fussy or formal. The staff were all super friendly and greeted us right away. We had a reservation and had a choice of seating type when we arrived (there are tables, highboys and soft seating. We chose a lounge style seating set and then dove in to our tasting. Our server was Jose and he was super friendly and great about answering questions and filling us in about the some historical background on the winery, the owners and the winemaker. The wines were great and Jose was great about accommodating a friend who wanted to stick to just whites while the rest of us stayed more traditional and stuck to the menu. We ended up buying a couple of bottles and the bottles come in an adorable jute bag. Def recommend and will be back!

Phil D.

Yelp
A definite destination. We moved to Sonoma from San Francisco four years ago; before that Pangloss was always a part of our weekend "vacation." Now we are fortunate enough to have the ability to experience their wines anytime! Love the Charles Pinot. The entire staff is terrific; Alissa is awesome. A truly sophisticated and chill experience.

Yelp
Came here on NYD while enjoying the square. Made a reservation a couple of days before, which was hassle-free. The interior felt very cozy and we sat with a nice view of the square. Our host, Steven, was very friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and generous. He shared information on the grapes, region, and (our most favorite) how to pair each wine with a variety of food. I can't say I seek out a lot of white wines but am certainly open to discovering more about them during tastings and I must say the variety offered here was unlike others I have tried. So much so, that I was compelled to take a couple of selections home. Well, actually, we decided to become member because of this experience. Have been back 2x since our first time on NYD 2022 (on Fridays at 12:30 pm- it's not too busy) and both times I have learned new information, had opportunities to try new varieties and even had friends who enjoyed the wines/experience so much that they also went home with a bottle. Key takeaways: 1) great white wines, 2) amazing hospitality, 3) cozy cellar vibe
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
We wandered in here for an afternoon tasting while staying in the square at Ledson Hotel. Lots of choices for seating either at the bar or at one of there many lower tables spread throughout the large room. We had very attentive service from a fine fellow who opened up and talked gaming with us. I ended up going home with a couple of bottles and am considering their wine club for the new year. They're centrally located in the square and the tasting room is both cozy and relaxing. Pros: Great tasting room, friendly service and good wine selection. Cons: Nothing comes to mind.

Yelp
Finally had the chance to visit Pangloss Cellars after years of missing out on it and I can easily describe it with one word, superb. While open to the public, based on the popularity of this tasting room, I'd advise setting up a reservation. A tasting for two was pretty simple though, but we setup a reservation anyway. Finding the tasting room and parking is pretty straight forward, but beware of parking limits during the week on the Sonoma square. Fast forward to the arrival, very straight forward check in and reserved seating at the bar. A nice touch being a welcome card with our name and greeting to the tasting room. The staff member who was serving us was great, very welcoming, knowledgeable, and not to pushy on wine sales. The aesthetics inside the tasting room were very relaxing and not too busy either. I loved the restoration of the old brick walls and large wooden beams, really brings back the historic Sonoma vibe. The wine flight was a respectable $25, which is surprising as it is the Sonoma square, so I expected a higher tab. With that came two whites (One for members) and three reds (One for members), which were all great, but as usual a red won out on me. The home run winner was the Chardonnay, which was surprising for me as I am usually not a huge Chardonnay fan. When it comes to bottle prices, they ranged from an affordable $30 to an upwards $90. They do server cheese and charcuterie boards, but I cannot speak on them as we did not partake in such. In the end, it was a great experience and one I could easily recommend if someone is visiting the square anytime soon.

Anne Marie K.

Yelp
Haley are host was fabulous. We also got the cheese and charcuterie board that was perfect enough for 4.

Ally D.

Yelp
We had an amazing time at Pangloss Cellars. Alissa was a fantastic guide through our tasting and provided us with an informative and fun experience. The wines were delicious and the atomosphere was great. We would definitely recommend a visit when in downtown Sonoma!

Carmen M.

Yelp
We were referred to this place by someone from Prohibition Distillery and we were lucky to have been seated right away. My husband isn't a big wine person (he's more breweries than wineries) but he was interested in doing a tasting and shockingly enough he really enjoyed the Syrah and I enjoyed the 2018 Mourvèdre which we bought one of each. We also added the cheese and charcuterie board which was delicious. Now, I'm not going to lie, I don't know much about wine other than I love it and I love going to wineries. So, I can't give you much insight on the wine other than they were great and apparently (I'm hoping this is correct) but it was either the Syrah or Mourvèdre pair well with smoked meats. The building itself is beautifully designed and decorated. The original stone wall was immaculate. Definitely, recommend going here.
google avatar

Yelp
Full disclosure - I joined Pangloss' wine club during my previous visit in October 2019. It's a BEAUTIFUL location & building right on Sonoma Square. Due to Covid, they've expanded to large outdoor deck & staff hustles in&out to tend to your needs. They offer an impressive variety of whites & reds, and our tasting came w/ a really nice charcuterie board... sorry that by time I thought take picture it was substantially dented :-)

M R.

Yelp
Wonderful venue in an historic building. Wine flights were so great I joined the club membership!

Yelp
I booked a tasting here last minute and I was not disappointed. The location was gorgeous and we were sat on the back patio. Our host was amazing. He took me through each wine, told me what to look for, and even brought out and extra wine glass just to compare how they smell! His personal experiences and whole attitude made the experience so much fun and I had such a good time here. This place was a must visit and of course I walked away with a bottle of wine. I asked our host if he could add a card with the details of the wine so I can share with friends back home and I can't wait to share this with them.
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Funky yet sophisticated. Articulated design aesthetic. Without revealing to much, a well read wine enthusiast with a desire for something out of the ordinary will be intrigued by Panglass Cellars. The outdoor seating is comfortable and ample, situated on the corner of first street and Napa street. With some from winetasting options as well as a the option to add a charcuterie cheeseboard for only $20. As a sommelier, I was very impressed with the wide array of varietals! Everything from Albariño, to Syrah, Chenin, Malbec, Mourvèdre and of course Pinot. As a final note I really was impressed by their Covid health and safety precautions all clear and organized and readily accessible for guests and staff.
google avatar

Karina A.

Yelp
Came here over the weekend and it was an a amazing experience. Staff was attentive and even took the time to give me recommendations given we had come out of town and most tasting rooms were closed due to COVID. We did some flights and the charcuterie board, all were great and decently priced. The wine was so good we even purchased some bottles to go. Truly appreciate how cautious they are given our circumstances and making customers feel safe and welcome. Highly recommend checking this place out, you won't regret it and you'll discover some delicious wines!
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
We loved our experience! Stumbled across this place and were greeted by the best host! Alissa was amazing and made us feel so welcome. We laughed so hard with her she really made the experience so much more than we expected it to be. If you want to have a wine tasting with a true personality please request her!!!! Will be returning. (Side note: this was also the cleanest and nicest bathroom we've ever been to!)

Meera S.

Yelp
Shoutout to Steven/Stephen (sorry, we didn't catch the spelling of your name!) We visited PG on Friday, March 24th. You were an absolute gem - patient as we asked questions about wine, professional as you answered said questions, and funny to boot! Gold stars for Carmen and Hayley who also contributed to a spectacular visit.

David G.

Yelp
I'd really give it 4.5. The wine is delicious. Absolutely delicious. We have had good and ~okay~ servers. We are members and we will always be members with how good this wine is. Cheese boards were great, room is large and comfortable. The server definitely impacts your experience and it's never been bad but some are just better than others.

Yelp
Our party of 8 enjoyed our private tasting with Ethan at Pangloss cellars! We made our reservation a week in advance and were given the entire back patio to ourselves. It was an enjoyable private tasting experience. We brought our own lunches to enjoy during our tastings. It was great to be outside to enjoy our lunch and wine. Ethan wore his mask the entire time and was very fun and friendly. Our tasting came with one full bottle per couple. Our crowd favorite was the Grenache. We ended up going home with almost a full case of wine. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Jill S.

Yelp
Such a great experience, the space was beautiful, and the woman (Courtney) we had explaining to us the wines we tasted was so knowledgeable and the most enjoyable to chat with.
