This place merits ZERO stars. We went to this sandwich shop before heading to the train station thinking it’d be nice to get some nice sandwiches for our journey. The lady who served us explained how things worked and once I ordered what I wanted, she started coughing and coughing non-stop which to me became concerning. Then a man, poorly kept, who knew them and addressed them by their name, entered the shop and was asking how the lady was doing and that she needs to take care of whatever that’s happening with her health as she continues coughing. She covers her mouth with her hands and then touches our sandwich paper wraps with the same hands before washing them, or stepping out to take care of her cough. I politely mention that I don’t feel comfortable with the coughing situation where our food is being prepared. The guy who works there retorts, “she’s not touching your sandwiches, I am!!!!” And bear in my mind that this shop is tiny, the two are stood should to shoulder, and her proximity to the food ingredients and lack of clean surfaces can still be a concern. Once I said that I don’t feel comfortable, their “friend” tells me to GET LOST and leave the shop. The lady and the man behind this tiny counter say nothing that their customer was just insulted in front of them. And so I walk out of this supposedly nice sandwich shop that has no standards of hygiene and basic levels of politeness and respect for their customers and couldn’t be happier that I would not be eating sandwiches infected with who knows what. If that’s the way they prepare food in front of you, I wonder what goes on behind closed doors. As a side note, I hope that the lady recovers from whatever it is that ails her. Perhaps this would be an indication to not go to work with such persistant symptoms.
