11 Best Bars in Dublin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Once a bit neglected and unloved, Capel Street is now one of Dublin’s coolest areas. And standing proud at the top of the street is Pantibar, its giant illuminated sign pointing folk into Dublin’s hottest LGBT bar. The walls are adorned with custom poster artwork by Niall Sweeney, and the small stage hosts DJs, drag queens, and music bingo. The legend behind it all is Panti Bliss, a “gender discombobulist” and the unofficial queen of Ireland." - Nicola Brady

Love this place with Shane and Rory, aka Panti ❤️ They have helped our festival in the West of Ireland show case every year to help the queer Dublin see we are on with The Outing Queer Arts Collective and Festival The staff and team are friendly, plus great to look at, plus know their job. Love downstairs when you have a group to chat with, plus a party too. Door staff are one of the best there is. Layout fun and music 🎶 is great

Google
Hands down our favourite bar in Dublin. We’re so lucky to have a save, fun, and enjoyable place to have a drink anytime of the day. From the quiet afternoon to the busy night time drinks. Also the Sunday nights with Ariana Grindr & Jack Swift 👌

Google
Saturday nights are very nice here. There is a DJ and good music. Drinks have good prices and staff were extremely polite and smiling. It is a good place to have a beer afterwork or to come to dance like nobody is watching. I would return for sure.

Google
This pub is fantastic! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the floor staff are incredibly kind and attentive. They always make sure you feel welcome and well taken care of. The drinks are great, and the overall experience is always enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Google
Had a fantastic time at PantiBar Dublin with friends! Great atmosphere and a perfect place to enjoy the night. Just a note to be aware that the door staff can sometimes be a bit rough around the edges.

Google
Very welcoming. Great layout. Friendly bartenders. Wonderful live music. Truly homo.

Google
If I could give it a minus star I would. Got refused in by the 2 bouncers for no reason because they said so. All four girls were sober. Disgrace of a bar. Absolute sh*tehole. No wonder it looked pretty empty.

Lucas Buffon

Google
Great selection of drinks and beers, always with a promotion going on. A clean, cozy, and welcoming place.

Yelp
We came here one of our nights in Dublin. It is a large space, but not too many places to sit. We had to squeeze in at the back of the bar. The prices weren't bad and the staff was very nice. The place has a fun vibe. I certainly will return should my travels take me to Dublin again.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
I loved the vibes within the atmosphere. The staff was very welcoming! I enjoyed the cocktails.

Yelp
The drinks are reasonably priced and the service is professional but icy and tired. When the customer has been suffering in homo-desert called Donegal, I expect as warm a hello as the one I've thrown over the bar. When the customer is visiting from another country (in my case, Kahliforneeah) and asks "May I purchase some merch?" And bar tendril goes "Wha?" And I go, "You know - t-shirts, like the one your wearing? You know, merchandise?" And he goes,"Uhh, I dunno" and goes over to an overflowing box of Panti T-Shirts behind the bar - visible to all - and then returns with an open-mouthed "Nawww" I cringe with disappointment. Panti, you are still my number one marriage heroine, but have a wee chat with the staff and give them a raise or a lift or an 18-hour girdle - anything to inject life into these poor folks. I'll go back to the straight Dub bars where I'm welcomed wa

Yelp
Welcoming and fun times. I love that they have a little smoking patio. Bartender was great and made delicious drinks. I loved everything about this bar and had a great time with my friends here.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here! A lot of great cocktails and beer (including cider). The cocktails are pricey but the beer is pretty cheap. This place is definitely packed in the evening so it's hard to find a seat/table. Once you do, sit back and enjoy the uplifting environment and awesome pop music (Spice Girls anyone?). My only tiff is that the bartenders were rude. Not the worst I've encountered but definitely not in the hospitality business. This is a must visit if you don't mind good drinks, cold beer, great music in a gay bar setting (it was like 98% men).

Yelp
Ambience. B Service. B Drinks. A Price. A A good ole fun open gay bar found just one block from the Liffey. Fun music and good mix of people! I've never had bad service whenever it's slow or very busy. You just have to get their attention when you're ready to order. Came on an early 4:30 Guiness break. Good deal! €4.30! And a beautiful pour. Love this bar! I'm a fan.

Shannon B.

Yelp
I came here last night to grab a drink and see the bar! it was almost an hour before close but the staff were still incredibly rude. Multiple girls were giving the worst looks I've ever received and had the worst and least welcoming vibes.

Yelp
"Ah go on just the one yah miserable cow. Just the one." "It's never just one with you and seriously my body is broken." "Slut." "Take your mind from the gutter. I have an evil coach." "It's Friday! Get a life." And with those compassionate words from a dear friend I ventured to good old Pantibar. A place where I always drink too much and get stuck in rounds. A place where I always end up stumbling home singing Cher. A place where I get educated on stuff that I never really thought about before such as: "Green tea with lemon is fantastic for stopping bloating. The only thing is the farts will launch you they are very powerful." "Asparagus makes your pee stink, eat pineapples." Why the extra star? €3.50 pints of everything before 8pm. The Guinness is much better this time around, but try and get the Irish woman with black hair to pour it for you as she's good. And most of all the service continues to be friendly and the crowd is mixed.

Yelp
Ahhhh Pantibar.... The most friendliest and relaxed of all gay bars in Dublin! I HEART this place! The city's only gay owned gay bar. Owned by super duper drag queen Panti. There are so many good points to this bar I feel like I'm about to explode with rainbows, glitter and Liza CD's...... Everyone from the security staff to the bar staff are super friendly and welcoming. €3.50 pints until 8pm. After 8pm you can still buy pints of Tuborg for €3.50. They also have cheap pitchers of beer and promos on cocktails and shorts. If you are a cheap date, you will be an even cheaper date here! ^_^ Panti has her own amazingly entertaining show which is now on Saturdays from 10pm and regularly feature the awesome Bunny, Regina George and Blathaid Mc Gee with sassy musical performances and hilarious movie and TV scenes performed. The fabulous Bunny has her own variety show "The Hutch" on Fridays which feature an array of performances and performers each and every week. Make and Do Do is on Thursdays. I have never been but from what I hear it is Blue Peter with an adult theme. I wont mention the pipe cleaners! Ooops I just did! When there are no shows taking place the music is an eclectic mix of pop, indie, electro, disco, rock.... I was there one night and within a half hour I heard Nine Inch Nails, Lady GaGa, Britney Spears and music from the musical Avenue Q.... Amazeballs! There is awesome drag art across the walls and a very cool Absolute Vodka themed neon display at the staircase. "Woof woof woof" "What the hell is that?" "It's a dog!" "Oh that's Panti's dog Penny....." "Oh how cute" "I know, right?" Penny has a bright red dog house in the bar. She frolics about the place from time to time saying hello. The cuteness..... This only adds to the friendly atmosphere. You get a very mixed crowd passing through the doors of Pantibar. A wonderful mix of gay, lesbian, straight and trans. A welcoming and fun place for everyone!

Yelp
Throughout the early evening my cohorts went on and on about Pantibar and I was pretty sure they'd be leading me to some seedy strip club somewhere. Color me confused when they kept talking about checking out the stand up comedy, but all fears were assuaged when I arrived at the space and saw that it was just your typical somewhat empty gay bar. We grabbed a drink and went downstairs to check out their new comedy night, which was pretty lackluster. Just a bunch of guys who thought that the more they yelled and cursed, the funnier they'd be. I hate that, and it was a little bit awkward. So back upstairs we went, bellied up to the bar, and ordered a few rounds. And then, what's that?! Is that a doghouse, on stage, all dramatically lit, in a gay bar?! Why, yes it is! And there's Penny, the little dog that lives there and otherwise greets the patrons of this neighborhood spot. Later on a tiny puppy emerged and was smitten. Not sure whether I loved it the most or the giant Dolly Parton artwork on the wall. Because, honestly. Gays + puppies + Dolly Parton = pretty much heaven on Earth.

Yelp
A very friendly gay bar. We were here to see a friend perform on an open mic night. It was free in for the show and it was a great nights entertainment. Great music before and after the show too. Very cute barmen serving out the drinks, a nice bonus ;) The ladies toilet was very smelly, I had to drop a star for that
google avatar

Yelp
Great bar with a nice open layout. Love the LED lamps hanging above the tables. Drink specials are fantastic, given the central location. Pints were €3.70, select cocktails and vodka + splash €5... more than reasonable. Bar staff seem knowledgeable about drinks selection although the one who served me might be a tad surly (but probably just because I'm a minger, can't blame him for that, can we?) Good mixed crowd and the occasional unsuspecting tourist who wanders in wide eyed at the drag queen posters. Toilets are clean albeit freezing, so give the benefit of doubt to the guy next to you by the cubicles ;-)

Yelp
Pantibar is everything you expect a gay bar to be: loud, bright, filled with the most camp men you'll ever come across in your entire life and blaring the worst 90's dance music imaginable. Exactly what you'd be looking for then. Pantibar was my first ever time in a gay bar, and I was typically aprehensive about it. But after a few 2 euro jelly vodka shots rhythm really was a dancer. Pantibar is actually great craic, if you let your inhibitions go.
google avatar

Yelp
You got to give Pantibar credit for being unique, glamorous and amusing. Run by the infamous drag queen Panti, this gay bar puts on a lot of great shows. There are different activities that take place throughout the week. Monday nights are devoted to arts and crafts. Customers are encouraged to make art and the best piece gets a prize. Every Thursday night, the Panti Show kicks off at 11 pm and the basement club opens for business. The weekends are all about dancing and meeting new people. Pantibar is also a nice place to just grab a drink. I've been here early evenings and found it quite pleasant to sit in the window and have a chat with friends.

Yelp
Well. Not to many gay bars in Dublin and this one is the main bars And it's fun special over the weekend Being here many times. It's a a fun place. People are nice. Drinks are not very pricy. Cool place

Yelp
The Panti Bar is a lot of fun, along with the brand image! Great drinks, a lively atmosphere and good music. I had a good time hanging out here while I was on vacation!

Yelp
Fun and clean bar. Has an upstairs bar with tables against the wall that can accommodate small groups. I went on a Sunday night about 30 minutes after they opened and it was already pretty busy. The bar was very busy but there were about 5 bartenders making their way to each person to try and get everyone drinks. Downstairs there is a Small lounge area that is quiet and had small tables and couches. This area fills up quickly as well and people stake out the couches. The DJ was playing 80's throwback music which was a refreshing change from the typical thumpa thumpa club music. Seems like mostly a bar that mostly men frequent but there were some groups of women as well. Bathroom was clean. Stayed for about 2 hours and by the time we left it was packed. Would go back if I visit again.

Yelp
Summer 2018 - I had the time of my life. The beer selection is great. The atmosphere is amazing and the Music Bingo show is AMAZING. I love this idea because it keeps people entertained while listening to great music from the 70's , 80's , 90's and current. The place is nicely decorated. It is located in a nice area in Dublin.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to chill out, friendly atmosphere and cheap cocktails! Arrive early if you want a seat, the place gets quickly packed up on Friday and Saturday night. Everybody's welcome! Pantibar is the heart of Dublin's gay community thanks to legendary Miss Panti Bliss, her great sense of humour and her gay rights activism.
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
Lots of fun. Decor is cool, staff are hot, drinks are good, drag shows are super funny! Pantibar is an institution, and deservedly so!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very fun gay bar in the middle of Dublin city centre, its sure is worth a stop off on a night out. There's a drag show held every Saturday night, it can get very busy so arrive early to get a good vantage point/seats. Downstairs is quieter area with a lot of seating, thats only if you want to avoid the loud music and have a quieter pint. My only complaint is that it doesn't open later after the drag show everyone was asked to leave. But I suppose we'd never go home if it stayed open all night. Great selection of drinks, Panti even has her own brand of ale, which i've heard isn't bad so check it out. A lovely lively atmosphere, great mix of people and good music. We hand a fantastic time hanging out here.

Yelp
This cosy little watering hole is the most personalised gay bar in Dublin. Owned by the queen of Dublin drag Panti, the bar has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with some very hot barmen! During the weekday evenings, it is generally quite so is a good location to unwind for after work drinks. But as Panti likes to throw a party the weekends are always kicking. And a weekend at Panti's begins on a Thursday . With great drink promos (pitchers of beer, and promotional cocktails), a good show and a snug downstairs dance floor it may explain why it is such a good attraction. Friday and Saturday plays host to all different types of events which gives the punters many reasons to continue to flock back. And it doesn't end there. Sunday evening is now playing host to major drink promotions. Now called Half Price Sunday, the name is pretty much self explanatory. From 5p.m onwards all drinks are half price which is giving the religious Sunday ritual of bingo at the George a run for it's money. So full to the brim the bar is it seems every gay in Dublin is changing religion. And word on the grape vine is that this is the new Sunday ritual. And never one to be a pagan, Half Price Sunday it is!!!!!!!!!.
google avatar

Yelp
Good music and drinks, nice atmosphere. Bar tenders are great! The DJ is entertainer as well so you'll also have a good show
google avatar

Yelp
Great location, nice doormen and an even nicer crowd, what more could you ask for in a bar? Oh, yes, deals on drink and (mostly) good music. Done and done! Ok, on the subject of music, some nights are more cheesy than others and you're virtually guaranteed to listen to at least one of Madonna's songs if you stay for a while. So consider yourself warned, it can be chart-hits-bad... or it can be fun :) There's plenty of seating and you can always find somewhere to, at least, drop your coat safely while you chat or dance away. There's also a - usually overcrowded - balcony where you can smoke without having to go outside. As you'd expect in a gay bar, most of the barmen are a)good-looking b)not wearing shirts. And they're also quick to serve you and very cool. Hooray for all that! This is a very good spot to include on a night out, a warm-up before moving to a late-night pub/club. Just a side note, I've avoided coming in here during the whole Pantigate affair as it was getting very crowded due to the surge in popularity (rightly deserved and it's a good thing Dublin showed its support). If you were put off by that, know that it has died off now and you can dare venture in here again without having to fight for a place to stand.

Yelp
"How do you make Lady Gaga cry?" "Ignore her." I find it hard to remember jokes so I thought I'd get that one out there before it gets lost in the dark pockets of my brain. And to put it into context, this was one of the gags made at the Monday night comedy show in Pantibar. The set consisted of improv, stand-up and sketch comedy (like "Smack the Pony"). Not as funny as The International Bar but it was free and the comedians were brave enough to make gay jokes. The last guy gave me the most laughs. He was negative, self-deprecating, angry, loud, and energetic to the point of hysteria. Everything us Irish like in a comedian (think Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran). My friend tells me Pantibar is the most successful gay bar in Dublin as its drinks are cheap and each night of the week offers its customers something different- from burlesque (or "cabargay") to comedy to disco. There are mirrors everywhere. I almost excused myself in the bathroom. And the men are pretty. Which is like eyeing up a deliciously moist chocolate chip muffin when you're really in the mood for dessert but the muffin only wants to be eaten by a man.
google avatar

Marianna R.

Yelp
Very fun gay bar, friendly people and good booze. But quite expensive, probably they raised the prices recently. And no list, so the prices are a surprise till you don't get your drink. Considering that I paid 4,70€ for a tequila shot and 6€ for a cider, I'd recommend to get one of the special deal cocktails that are listed at the bar.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to Pantibar last night after a long absence. I had been there before for some of the cabaret shows and had forgotten how much I love the place. This time, I brought a friend who had just moved in around the corner. She hesitantly mentioned wanting to try it, so last night after work, I met her at Pantibar and we slid into a booth facing the bar. The bar itself is an ecclectic eyeful. The staircase leading to the basement is lit by a fiery neon sign, which shows an Absolut bottle on a pair of shapely legs walking down some steps: "Absolut Pantibar." I imagine that this bar has a very good relationship with Absolut, given Panti's consistent and direct involvement in the Absolut Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. But if there's any doubt, the evidence surrounds you in the bar - Absolut bottles are bedecked with red and silver sequins and signs hang around the place. That being said, the decor is rather understated for what one would expect in a bar with such a lively social calendar. There was still a drink special on for the Sunday night (though we missed the €3.50 pints) for €5 to mix and match various spirits and mixers. We ordered two drinks a piece - me a vodka cranberry and a vodka redbull, and she a vodka cranberry and gin and tonic - and sat back to enjoy the atmosphere. I don't always feel comfortable in bars or pubs for some strange reason, but I can safely say that Pantibar always makes me feel at ease. The crowd is a mix of people, as in any bar, but it always seems to be a generally positive crowd and, when those shows go onstage, the support is massive. Recommended for anyone looking for a good gay bar or just a great atmosphere.
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Been refused entry and witnessed a group of mid to late 20s be refused also. Don't understand why! There did not seem to be many in there when I tried to go in so I don't get it at all.
google avatar

Jamie K.

Yelp
I really enjoy Pantibar. The staff are friendly and easy on the eye. The music is cheesy but sure what do you expect from a gay bar. The crowd is very mixed, with a friendly and healthy age mix and every ethnicity and culture to be found throughout the week It's also one of the cheapest places for cocktails at 5 euro and cheap for pints too.
google avatar

Emilie A.

Yelp
Definitely the only gay bar in Dublin with such a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is great, really friendly. The owner puts on shows, events... Never a boring night there. If you get there early you might get to play with Penny, the little terrier running around. It would be amazing if, during the day, they could serve coffee and a bit of food! Now that the shop opposite has burned down, the sun really hits that window!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Just arrived in Dublin today and stumbled on this amazing bar/club. Great atmosphere, neon red hued lighting. Super friendly staff, regular prices and I'm told good drag shows some nights. Mixed aged crowd. Yes it's loud but in a non irritating way. Good tunes and sound system.
google avatar

Mikey O.

Yelp
Always a great stop for after work pints on a Friday, a very rare case of a 'gay pub', as opposed to club or bar, much more friendly atmosphere and banter and considerably more relaxed than most of the competition. I'm always going to recommend the €3.50 Tuborg, €9.95 for a pitcher that'll just about reach 3 pints, as Tim will gladly tell anyone that's listening I'll happily put a fair few of them away before the last bus home! It has literally been years since I ventured downstairs to the club part of the bar, when I do I'll yelperise my thoughts, for the moment this is my Friday night wind down spot, or launch pad depending on how well the Tuborg goes down...

Yelp
Panti Bar which is owned and run by the Notorious Pandora "Panti" Bliss is a Gay bar on Capel street in Dublin's city Centre. It's not the biggest of establishments but it is packed to the brim with good drinks, friendly staff, music, Drag Queens and a pool table downstairs. Every Saturday evening there is a Drag Show hosted in Panti Bar that usually stars: Panti herself, Blathnaid McGee and Bunny who all contribute their own unique talents to the show but also join efforts to act out various scenes from popular Soaps on TV. I have been to Panti Bar count-less times now after my friend first introduced me to the bar and I have not yet been disappointed, But like most places or things it may not suit everyone's tastes. One of Panti's new ventures in the bar is serving Toasted Cheese and Ham sandwiches during the day for those who enjoy a light snack while sipping on a cocktail or beer to relax after a long day's work. So if you enjoy Drag Queens, Cocktails, Pool, Good looking Bar staff and Toasties then Panti Bar is the place for you.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Overrated. Busy. Bartenders are pretty, but assess. A tourist trap if you are from abroad. Very rude. Not sure if just the ridiculous politics we are currently dealing with. Not many choices left here. Actually, worst bar I've ever been to for both service and general attitude. It's sad Dublin doesn't have better choices for as large as it is.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Fun fun fun! Great energy and vibe! Good drinks, handsome bartenders, fun mixed crowd. If only they stayed open later... but other than that, a fun night for all. Went on a Friday.
google avatar

Carlos T.

Yelp
I was in a Wednesday night, so maybe not this isn't indicative of the bar when it is busier. There was a decent crowd (maybe 30 or so) when I arrived at around 10:45. The bartenders were a bit slow and the drinks were nothing to write home about. Average gay bar on an average night. Maybe it gets better on the weekend.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and enjoyed it. It's good is you fancy a gay friendly option - they have various drink deals and even their own house pale ale which is pretty good. They have brightened up the place which was a great idea as I did find the previous decor very dark. It gets a slightly older crowd to the Front lounge I would say.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I mean who can ever knock Panti Bar? It's in an institution isn't it? Despite this though, it doesn't rest on it's laurels. Walk in there not knowing anything about the history of the place, or the inimitable Panti Bliss herself, you're still gonna be hit with a slick, vibrant and fun bar. Hot bar tenders, polite door staff, your classic disco / fun tunes, decent drinks prices and a good crowd. Sure ye can't go wrong.

Anon Y.

Yelp
Had a ton of fun here. I prefer a bar opposed to a club and on a Saturday night, it was a club. I still enjoyed this as the DJ was playing some fun tunes. Met a couple of nice people that we danced with all night--so friendly and fun! Restrooms were a little hard to find and it was so loud that it was hard to order a beer. Still got my beer though! A nice place to be yourself.
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place, I really did. The look of the place is perfect, great beers on tap, and a good location. However, where it falls flat is the service! Having been in Dublin for a week now and visiting many pubs and bars, I would say that at all places the bartenders are friendly, chat you up, and truly make you feel welcome. On the other hand there is Pantibar, which leaves you feeling like the chubby kid being picked last in gym class. The pretty boy bartenders ONLY talk to each other, and when you do get their attention to place an order you can practically feel them looking through you as if you don't even matter; I'd feel more self conscious if I hadn't watched them do it to other patrons as well. Like I said I gave this place three tries, and honestly feel it was two tries too many! With all the bars in Dublin, as well as in the area of this bar, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!
google avatar

Andre R.

Yelp
Funny gay friendly place in Dublin. Great venue for a pint or two. The drag queen stand up/lip syncing show is cute and joyful. A bit hard to pinpoint the target audience, though. Which is good, I guess. Here one'll find all tribes: from twinks to bears to daddies to trans to whatnot. Awesome!

Karina C.

Yelp
Pantibar is the business. I love the place. On a busy weekend the atmosphere is just brilliant. It's the kind of bar where you could end up talking to random strangers as if they were old friends - especially outside the front door where everyone goes for a smoke/a bit of socialising! The staff are good too. We were there one night and got a free round of drinks 'cause some customer had been bugging us!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Super fun bar. Busy with great music good for a pint and a chat before 9 and great for a night out too. The staff are pretty quick serving too!

Yelp
A busy and fun gay bar, with many special events. If you are gay and in the partying mood, that's a great place for you. Reopened in late 2007; before that it was called GUBU.

Yelp
just a very relaxing gay bar no queens or asshole in the place you have a nice few pints with no one hassling you

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic space. The staff are friendly and the drinks are strong. Felt like a local right away and that's nice when you're traveling.
