"With a small selection of Asian food items for sale, this charming neighborhood spot doubles as a restaurant-meets-mom-and-pop-shop. The menu features a mix of Thai and Japanese dishes, ranging from drunken noodles to miso ramen to an assortment of sushi rolls and sashimi. There’s seating both inside and outside, where a small patio is dotted with several tables." - Mekita Rivas

The atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was good. I will say that I really enjoyed the soup. However, I did not enjoy the meal....prik king. It was grainy and very salty. The green curry was tasty but very spicy.

We ate around 1 pm on a Tuesday and had no issue getting a table. Theres an outdoor patio, but it wasn't set up. The Pantry is interesting because it's also a small Asian grocery story, so I like to get the occasional last-minute ingredient from there. Today, we ordered the salmon lovers roll, crab Rangoon, rainbow roll, Philadelphia roll, and the soft shell crab roll (forgot the name). All were really very good ! I really liked the softshell crab roll. I wouldn't say this was earth-shattering sushi, but it was still very good. I look forward to trying the Thai food they have.

Google
First time trying this location per reviews and was overall ok with the experience. Starting with customer service it was ok however note you cannot order lunch specials to go as they are dine in only. Ordered the spicy wings with the sauce on the side and the smell of the chicken by itself wasn't to pleasing and was completely unseasoned. However, it does pair well with the sauce once accompanied. Ordered the shrimp and chicken fried rice also which was good. Note it is not Chinese fried rice so you won't get all the components such as mung bean sprouts and the rice is different. However, I was really impressed with the taste and freshness of this dish. I was looking for the best fried rice in DC and some of the reviews stated this was the place. I won't contest it as I don't have another reputable place to refer however it was tasty and I would recommend.

Google
To start off the staff of this restaurant are super friendly. Made you feel super welcomed. The food was overall excellent. From the noodles to the sushi all of it had lots of flavor. The basil fried rice was the star of the show however. Super rich in flavor! Highly recommended getting it extra spicy. Definitely finish it off with mango and sticky rice because it's always a solid dessert.

Had to write a review for this hidden gem 💎! My date night favorite with my daughter for fresh sushi and Thai dishes. Friend who's a regular recommended it and once we went it wasn't a fail. Tuesday nights are take-out for us, strongly recommend to experience.

Google
The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was good and come out 5min after order it. We brought our dog and sat on the patio. I really liked the Tom Kha Gai soup - had a very bright flavor and the shrimp Tempura roll - crunchy sweet and salty.

Google
Excellent spot for a night out, including date night. Easy atmosphere for conversation if you can take a break from the delicious food. Broad options on the menu including drinks. Like others have said, the wait staff is friendly and attentive without hovering. We had the shrimp Paf Thai and the chicken Pad King. Also tried the warm sake. Highly recommend.

Google
So incredibly tasty!!! Will definitely be back! The best Thai food I’ve had in dc so far! The only thing I didn’t like was the crab Rangoon, but the shrimp tempura roll was AMAZING and the pad Thai was soooo good! Everyone was very nice and service was super fast.

Yelp
been here a few times. the food is great, staff is accommodating- definitely a go to.

Sam S.

Yelp
Service was wonderful. I enjoyed that they had a cute bar to sit at. For food I had: -HH fried tuna roll (with cream cheese) - these were great, but I wish the tuna was raw, as it was definitely cooked. -Spring rolls - these were ok, lacked a little flavor -Crab rangoon - this was a surprise, as I'm used to mostly cream cheese, but it was all crab :) -Tuna sashimi - this was ok, not the most robust flavor or color I've had, but it tasted fresh -Special roll (shrimp tempura, asparagus, eel) - the tempura gave it a nice crunch, but it definitely needed soy sauce I'd go back if I was in the area to try other dishes.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Pantry Thai Bistro and Sushi is named really appropriately -- there is a pantry (grocery section), a Thai section, and a sushi bar. It felt very homey and casual! Service: Our server was nice, and our food came out pretty quickly. Food: We ordered the Red Curry with Chicken and Chicken Pad See Ew. The Red Curry was flavorful and slightly spicy. The Chicken Pad See Ew was pretty good! It was soft, saucy, and flavorful. We weren't sure if the portions were small or if we were super hungry coming in! Overall: We had a positive experience at Pantry. The food overall tasted authentic and left us wanting to eat more! We'd love to try some of their sushi in the future as well.

Yelp
Bought Crab Fried and Seafood rice from them today. It has been a while since we visited this restaurant. However. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED with the meal. My crab fried rice had a smidgen of crab meat on top and once I mixed up the rice you could neither taste nor tell there was any crab in there. It was devoid of flavor. My one tomato was firm and not cooked at all. I may have to just leave this place alone for they have changed.

Yelp
HAPPY HOUR 12-7! If you're like me, and you've been wondering, "Where are the lunch specials?" look no further! Pantry is cost effective + has delicious food. It's been so hard to find a quality Thai spot that matches NYC, and this comes so close. I do wish the wings had more sauce on them, but everything else was great (and the drinks are strong). I ordered the drunken noodle since it was my first time here (typically a safe option). The noddles were slightly over cooked, but the flavor was there. My boyfriend got the panang curry, which he adored.

ean g.

Yelp
Great first impression. Staff is very nice and welcoming. They have an every day happy hour from 12 to 7 which is awesome and the nigiri taste fresh and is very good.

Lauren J.

Yelp
How have I never been here? I walk past this place all the time and somehow have never made it inside. I'm glad I finally made the time to go because the food is delicious, the service is easy, and it's a cute eatery. This isn't a place I would go for vibes, but for really scrumptious food.

Kenneth K.

Yelp
I tried this place last week with my wife and we were both very impressed. They had happy hour deals until 7pm that we took advantage of so we ordered cocktails (sweet tea lemonade, passion cooler, kimono whisky sour, and kimono shiso), edamame, seaweed salad, spring rolls, chili wings, three fried rolls (salmon, tuna, and whitefish), and two mini rolls (salmon avocado and spicy tuna). Still slightly hungry we then ordered the drunken noodles with beef and Kapow chicken which we had plenty of leftovers of. They also have delicious sparkling Japanese juices and we tried the Ringo (apple) flavor. The atmosphere is interesting as it is a restaurant inside a small market and our server was wonderful. We look forward to returning to a new favorite spot in DC.

Yelp
Despite its location on Georgia and New Hampshire, right across from the Petworth metro, Pantry-- with its minimal sinage-- is a hidden gem. Even some locals I know in the area, have never heard of, or thought to, coming here. Even their Yelp is unclaimed. It's not normal Thai American food -- is solidly authentic Thai. Uniquely, Pantry offers amazing Thai stews and soups you can't find elsewhere (beware that some are very thing l thick and rich that if that's not what you're liking for, ask them).

Cheris C.

Yelp
Good service. And very flavorful food. Was a delicious stop for lunch. Had some sushi (melted like butter in my mouth) and a Thai dish. Very good!

John S.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner on a recent Saturday evening, and it was really enjoyable. Food was delicious, and we enjoy both sushi as well as Thai food, so the combination worked well for us. Everything we had tasted really good - very fresh, flavorful, & satisfying. We also were able to get a few beers under their happy hour (until 7pm), which was much appreciated. Service was okay, but would have liked to see the waitstaff more frequently checking on beverage refills, etc.... But overall, a solid place to grab some good sushi & thai food in DC.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Part store and part restaurant. You can have your dinner and get your things all in one place. The food was good and fresh. Everything was cooked to order and in house. The service was nice. It's not a huge place so plan for that.

Jim C.

Yelp
This little quiet getaway has the best service and fresh Sushi!! Clean, polite, and very attentive to all their customers!

Zail S.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best Thai food we've had. Their flat noodles are to die for. Not your typical cheap Thai food noodles, these are thicc, chewy, and perfectly cooked with a bit of char. Almost approaching mochi chew. The meat in the dishes was also cooked perfectly. Not dry as a bone like you'll typically get in American Thai food.

Bobbi D.

Yelp
So incredibly tasty!!! Will definitely be back! The best Thai food I've had in dc so far! The only thing I didn't like was the crab Rangoon, but the shrimp tempura roll was AMAZING and the pad Thai was soooo good! Everyone was very nice and service was super fast.

Troy C.

Yelp
The food is very well done - fresh and authentic. The atmosphere was casual, fun and comfortable and the Service was exceptional. Bartend was great and the cocktails were perfectly made. We loved our server, Opal - friendly, great sense of humor and made us want to come back tomorrow!

Gertrude L.

Yelp
I don't understand the five star reviews here. Authentic? Fresh? Are we talking about the same place? I had never had pad Thai so sweet and sticky, and with meat that tastes like having been sitting on the counter for hours. People, please don't use the word authentic lightly if you never have tasted real Thai food. Even for American Thai this is worse than average. It is a sad because I really want to like this place. The waitress are nice. It's also super close to where I live. But a bad restaurant is a bad restaurant.

Krista N.

Yelp
Consistent and great sushi, curry, pad thai, and other dishes. Everything is fresh and delicious!

Erica L.

Yelp
I'd give this place a 4.5 star if I could! It's a great neighborhood spot with a small selection of Asian food items for sale, and a small but solid Thai and small but solid Japanese menu. I absolutely love the Burmese khao soi coconut curry chicken soup noodle bowl with pickled greens. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the curry is flavorful but not spicy (and I say this loving spicy food), and the chicken is tender which is almost never the case for bowls like this. The drunken noodle is perfectly cooked though it doesn't hold up as well on delivery and sticks together (likely just a consequence of delivery). When I had it on the patio, it was perfectly cooked. I had it with pork which was juicy and nicely cooked. The miso ramen is quite good and less overly salted than most restaurant ramen so I don't feel like I need to down three liters of water afterwards. The flavor is great, noodles of the right toothiness, pork is good quality and tasty, so no complaints! The tuna sashimi rice bowl hits the spot. The tuna is reasonably fresh and flavorful. The rice was a tad too mushy but still the best option in Columbia heights or petworth, no doubt. Staff are immensely friendly and professional and kind. There's a small outdoor patio with a few tables. Not heated though so unfortunately harder to visit during a covid winter. You can order delivery straight from the restaurant website and it's really affordable, more so than using DoorDash or another service. I highly recommend it!

Jasmine P.

Yelp
I'm picky about spice, but this place was spot on with my green curry. Not too spicy to not enjoy but spice enough for all the flavors to come out. The Thai tea was good and my dining mate (local to Petworth) says she comes here often for the delicious food. Service was incredibly kind even when I arrived early, I was not pressured to order while I waited for my friend. I will definitely come back.

Kira B.

Yelp
I was super hungry one night, and I decided that I wanted some sushi. I looked up a few places, and this place had amazing reviews and for good reason! I got a shrimp tempura roll, the seaweed salad, and some fried calamari. The fried calamari was so good and the shrimp tempura was classic. I had never had a seaweed salad before so something different but it was still pretty good.

Laura P.

Yelp
Placed a delivery order on a Sunday night. We got chicken larb, pumpkin empanadas, Penang curry, red curry, tom kha soup, drunken noodles, ramen. We were surprised at the larb did not come with lettuce on the side but there were bits of wilted lettuce amongst the chicken... Everything was super tasty but main only complaint was that the chowhound delivery service forgot to give us our second bag which included the rice to go with the curry dishes and the soup. I called up the restaurant and the staff was happy to either refund our meal or send another order later that night. We chose to just get a refund however minutes later they called and said that they would be delivering the items within the next 10 minutes. Next time, we're just going to walk there.

Hannah C.

Yelp
I'm... genuinely confused by all the amazing reviews here. I think we must have gone on an off night? We ordered takeout and it was ready quite fast, but the food wasn't all that great. We ordered the burmese kao soi noodles, pineapple fried rice, and a tuna roll. The noodles were fine but not amazing - it was basically like peanut sauce soup with chicken and noodles? Which, like, hey, nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't particularly complex. The pineapple fried rice was really wet and the rice seemed a bit off. The sushi was weirdly warm? It was only in the bag with the noodles for a few minutes, but I guess it picked up some residual heat. But the fish seemed reasonable quality. Takeout is hard because you can't flag down a server and point out an issue. I'd be willing to give this place another go once we're doing restaurant dining in person, since this does really seem like an outlier experience.

Steve A.

Yelp
A good place for sushi and Thai that isn't too expensive. In Petworth lots of ethnic restaurants are opening. Pantry has a wide ranging Asian menu that's friendly to those who don't know much about this. Even if you've never had Asian, it's easy to read the menu. The sushi is fresh tasting. I came off the Metro one day to eat. It's located on the other side of the street across from the station entrance. This is a convenient location for Metro riders. For being in such an up and coming area, it's not all that expensive. The sushi rolls are about $5 and are large. It comes with kimchi and wasabi like any good roll does. The wasabi is fucking spicy. Other Japanese items include the miso. This is light and is a good accompaniment to a roll. I haven't yet tried any of the Thai items. Maybe the next Metro ride. The inside has tables or bar seating.

Claire G.

Yelp
love this place so much, food is absolutely delicious and really reasonably priced. great to dine in or take out!

Linda V.

Yelp
Honestly didn't know what to expect from this place being on Georgia ave you do not see much good food places just mediocre but coming here and trying their food definitely had me second guessing my thoughts on that concept. The sushi was pretty good not fishy at all, had interesting roll options. The shrimp dish that I can't pronounce or spell was ok reminded me a little of something I'd get at the carry out, but the sauce in it was good. I know that they have a lot more dishes I would like to try and from the looks of what others were having as I waited on my food it looks like they have good options. The decor on the inside although closed was nice and so was the service. I'd give it another try.

Javien D.

Yelp
I lives across the street from this Thai/Japanese fusion restaurant. The location has the atypical meal selection that you expect. I wasn't a fan of the portion sizes but the food is good. The warm sake during cold weather is more pleasing than hot chocolate during low temperatures. The spot is never full thankfully for the times I have dined in. Staff is friendly and casual. I'd recommend this spot for the neighborhood if you're wishing to eat out. Menu is very limited.

Shantal W.

Yelp
Pantry is my favorite place to go when I don't want to cook, but I want a really great meal. I stop in at least once a month if not more. I usually take it home. They have a cute outdoor seating area and the food is always hot and fresh. I always order the crab rangoon because they're packed with crab and so good. Panang Curry is another staple of mine. Packed with meat, flavor, and spice! The picture doesn't do it justice for how much meat is in there and when I get tofu it's cooked perfectly. The drunken noodle is amazing as well, and I order it every now and then. It'sone of the best drunken noodles I've had. The papaya salad has papaya, green beans, tomatoes, carrots, and a sweet and spicy dressing that is everything! Please stop in for a bite. It's a great restaurant with excellent customer service. I highly recommend a bite to eat here.

Josh A.

Yelp
Hidden gem!! Great atmosphere and great sushi! Even provided waters when we were waiting for a to go order!

Minda M.

Yelp
This shop is like 7 blocks away from my house, and you order through their website where they only charge $2 for delivery and say your tip goes right to the employees. I hate uber eats and all their fees, so I was excited about this place. This has to be the worst food I have ever ordered. Yes, I know it was delivered, but between ordering and delivery was maybe 30 minutes, which is awesome, but everything came super soggy, including the crab Rangoon. Call me a crappy American, but crab Rangoon is barely any crab meat and whatever else you put in it, cream cheese? These actually had real crab In them and that was about it. I'll give you a pass bc they were different. Moving on to the steamed dumplings. Which were these giant meatballs the size of a hockey puck barely covered with any noodle. And there were ingredients I couldn't recognize in them. Needless to say, they sucked. The pad Thai. Well we ordered tofu pad Thai, which came with pork and egg in it. And the noodles barely had any sauce on them and a ton of peanuts. Yuck. I'm so disappointed that I can't support a local restaurant because they failed so horribly.

Caitlin D.

Yelp
Great carry out! I enjoyed the panang curry with tofu. We shared both the dumplings and crab rangoon as appetizers. Dumplings were delicious, crab rangoons were fine but I wish they had more of a cream cheese filling. My friend loved her pad Thai. Ordering to-go was fast, will definitely be back soon to try more!

Amayah E.

Yelp
This place was so good wow! Excellent customer service and excellent food! The sushi is VERY fresh and the Pad thai was so delicious, the best i've had in a while. I'm so glad we found this hole in the wall place! I would definitely come back! The atmosphere is great as well!

Zion H.

Yelp
Cute place, great customer service, and very tasty food!!! Will definitely be back for more :)

George F.

Yelp
We grabbed some takeout while visiting family nearby. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice. It was a bit dry but the quality was good and the flavors were nice. My wife had the Poke. She thought the tuna was good but the rest of it was less interesting. My daughter had a Rainbow Roll. She was satisfied. We enjoyed the meal, no complaints, but don't feel compelled to go back.

Rae'von T.

Yelp
I took myself out here on some me time and it was everything!!! So peaceful. The food was delicious so fresh. I got the Veggie tofu lemongrass soup, fried rice with shrimp, and shrimp tempura rolls. Highly recommend 10/10. Very friendly staff as well!

Phia Marie C.

Yelp
Im here right now for a solo dinner. There's no other customer aside from me on the inside of the restaurant. However, There are 2-3 tables occupied outside. I wonder why this place got nobody! This was the old Sala Thai. I asked the server what happened to Sala Thai and she just said that they changed owner and changed name but they are still keeping almost the same menu as before which are mostly Thai and the prices are almost the same. I have visited the place too when it was still Sala Thai. I like the interior design better now that it's Pantry than with Sala Thai before. They have an area where they have like really low chairs where you almost will squat and that's the whole essence of Thai dining :) Food was ok. I liked it better with Sala Thai. Right now i ordered, deep fried calamari which is for $8 and the regular california maki. Calamari tastes good but the maki was not at all what i expected but for the price of $7 for 6pcs, i'm happy with it. It somehow completed my dinner.

Bhavana C.

Yelp
Pantry is a great place for solid Thai. They're super reliable, everything always tastes great - I usually go with the spicy basil rice or the green curry. The wonton soup and the woon sen gai soup also taste fantastic if you're feeling under the weather (or even when you're feeling just fine :) ) The staff is friendly and fast. They have a great COVID setup for dining out front, and if you're picking up they have a very safe setup as well (sanitizing used pens, lots of hand sanitizer available for customers, etc.)

Lillian C.

Yelp
I wanted to hate this place like every other overrated "white washed" Thai place in this city but I really can't knock it. The pad Thai (the most gringo Thai dish, I know) is on point. It has good flavor and the portions are ample. At 13/plate it is on the cheaper side of dc. I enjoy the service here as well - I have the same Asian woman serving me Seemingly every time I'm here and I've consistently had fast and good service. Pick up orders are prompt and there's plenty of parking nearby. Unfortunately I cannot speak for the sushi which seems a tad expensive. They also have a full bar with cocktails at 10/piece. There is no dedicated bartender so your server (above mentioned Asian woman) mixes your drink. It's not fancy but it's far from being bad. By far more flavorful than beau Thai.

Jessica M.

Yelp
My favorite sushi spot in Columbia heights/ petworth area. They have an awesome happy hour menu, I usually order spring rolls or fried rolls and order on it the sushi "sets" which is the chefs finest selection of sashimi for the day. I never don't order the mango sticky rice. Signed, Sticky Rice Girl

Michelle T.

Yelp
We ended up here as the result of a scheduling snafu with another nearby restaurant, and I'm so glad we did! I'm also *thrilled* to find out that I live within the delivery zone, so that I can have food from Pantry whenever I want. I'm always a little hesitant about restaurants that tackle multiple cuisines (will they both/all be mediocre?), but I didn't need to worry. We had the papaya salad (with shrimp) and larb gai to start -- both were great and were served with plentiful portions. Then we had the Burmese kao soi with chicken (me) and kyushu ramen (him). The kao soi was the perfect hot comfort food on a cold windy night. I tend to like a good bit of spice-heat, and this dish delivered! If you're easily overwhelmed by spicy-hot dishes, you may want to pay special attention to/stay away from the "starred" dishes on the menu; they're not kidding around. Service was kind and attentive at the bar. We had some simple but satisfying drinks, water was always topped up, and we were offered anything leftover to go. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of fresh ingredients and generous portions.

Rachel L.

Yelp
The Pad Thai is outstanding. It is so fresh, zesty and delicious. It was ready in less than fifteen minutes and the woman who took my order was extremely sweet. I was given water while I waited and the atmosphere is so cute. I will definitely be going back here!!

Jackie R.

Yelp
Pantry is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. Service is quick and efficient, food is delicious, prices are affordable, and the inside is unique and fun. A friend and I came by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizers, we were pleasantly surprised that there were 2 for each of us (most places only give you 1 each). Really tasty. For entrees, I ordered the Thai "Bento" with Panang Curry, rice, chicken soup, and 2 spring rolls FOR $13. $13!!!!! Amazing deal and delicious food. My friend ordered the drunken noodles and she was really happy with it. Looking forward to coming back to try other dishes - I hear they have a great happy hour and sushi.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
A fav spot for Thai food in dc. This place is authentic and they have so many great vegetarian options. Reminds me of thai food back on the west coast. Favorites include pad Thai, pad see ew, all of their curries. Their Tom kha soup is so good too.

Andrea S.

Yelp
I love this Thai place in Petworth! They have large portions and give a good amount of veggies and protein in their dishes. I often pick it up from their location but they do delivery also.

Tara M.

Yelp
Clean, good atmosphere, service, and reliable and consistent quality food. The happy hour is a great deal. I've been coming here sporadically for a few years.

Wilson B.

Yelp
I wanted to try this spot back when it had another name. As is per usual for me, I took my time with my visit. I took so long, I walked past and saw they name Pantry and thought that the ship had left the dock. But no, Pantry is still serving up Thai food right by the Georgia Ave. Metro Station. Since this was my maiden voyage, I was digging the décor for the first time. I liked what I saw. Pantry is billed as a Pantry/Bistro but there are also comestibles. But don't expect too much, Pantry is more of a restaurant. For the most obvious reason, I had never had a Bento Box. That obvious reason is that it hadn't happened yet. Lunch at Pantry meant a Tofu Bento Box for me. That and the Sweet Potato Empanadas which I was geekin to try. For some reason I knew they would be torch. And that's coming from a person that doesn't really care for sweet potatoes nor empanadas. I suppose that two wrongs add up to redemption because those empanadas were as torch as I envisioned. They looked like the Curry Puffs at other establishments so I liked the new flow. Now with the main course. My Pad Pak Tofu Bento Box, I like the name, lunch special was very filling. Veggie Egg Rolls, Miso Soup and my Tofu as the star. I liked that the Tofu didn't taste plain. Not that I need the flavor of soy protein masked, it had rhythm and I could get with that. Everything was done well. The Sweet Potato Puff were an amazing highlight. I believe the only thing that's keeping me from dropping off 5 Stars is the fact that I ordered something, however satisfying, wasn't the bomb. I'll be back for dinner and try something else. Then we'll see how smart I am "when the K9 come." *I could easily employ an Internet search but in the spirit of community discussion; if it is veggie only is it a Spring Roll?

Laura P.

Yelp
We ordered the pad thai and two sushi rolls. All 3 were great. For the amigos roll, we asked to sub the spicy mayo with something and the server suggested the eel sauce. It made for a surprisingly delicious combination. Will go back for sure.

David L.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite Thai restaurant so far. The food was amazing. I highly recommend trying the soup. I don't recall which one exactly I ordered, but I'm sure they're all delicious. The Pad Thai was amazing. It was a good portion of food as well.

J G.

Yelp
The Food is always fresh and prepared quickly. The spicy rolls are the best. Great carry out service!

Bobby H.

Yelp
Great sushi and delicious pad Thai. The location is very convenient. Next to the metro station.
