I had an extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable experience at this store. I’m a Black American woman, and from the moment I walked in, I was followed by security. Everywhere I went, a guard stood right next to me. Whether I was looking at fruit, comparing prices, or reading the ingredient list on a packaged food, someone was practically breathing down my neck. It was so blatant and intrusive that I eventually left my basket on the floor and walked out.
This type of targeted surveillance is not only unprofessional, it makes customers of color feel unwelcome and unsafe. No one deserves to be treated like a suspect simply for shopping.
In my opinion, anyone who cares about fair treatment — Black Brazilians, other people of color, or anyone who stands against discriminatory behavior — should think twice before supporting this business with their money. I personally recommend going to Zona Sul instead. I’ve never experienced anything like this there.
I will not be returning, and I encourage others to be aware of this behavior.
