The Paradesi Synagogue, built in 1568, exudes charm with its hand-painted Chinese tiles, large Belgian chandeliers, and unique historical objects. It's a tranquil site that chronicles the narrative of Kerala's Jewish community. Guests are expected to dress modestly. The synagogue has a long history and is a must-see for anyone who appreciates culture, heritage, and peaceful surroundings. Located in Jew town, this place is worth visiting if you love learning about history. The place is of a great cultural significance, demonstrating old ties between Jewish and Indian culture. The old Synagogue consists of Chandeliers from Belgium and floor tiles from China, which consists of patterns made using natural dies. Next to synagogue is a clock tower, showing time in three different languages: Malayali , Roman and Hebrew. In front of the side of tower showing time in Malayali, lies a palace, where the king used to reside. The former king donated the land to the Jews to build the Synagogue.

🕍 Paradesi Synagogue in Kochi is a beautiful and historically significant place, located in the heart of Jew Town. It's the oldest functioning synagogue in the Commonwealth, built in 1568. The interiors are stunning, with hand-painted Chinese tiles, antique chandeliers, and ancient religious artifacts. 🖼️🕯️ The entry fee is just ₹10 💰, and during our visit, photography was allowed inside 🤳, which was a pleasant surprise. It’s a peaceful and spiritual space that reflects the rich Jewish heritage of Kerala. If you’re visiting Jew Town, this is definitely a must see spot perfect for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone curious about Kochi’s diverse cultural roots. 📚🌍

The oldest synagogue in not only Asia but also in common wealth of nations. The Jews and kerala trade goes back to 2000 years and the settlement started during 14th century. The Jew town the lane to the Synagogue is well maintained. It's one of the well maintained tourist streets I have seen all over Kerala. There is an entry fee of 10 rupees and many photo options.

A must visit attraction in Cochin. It's set in a beautiful location at the end of a photogenic shopping street that was also a nice place to browse until the synagogue opened. There's a small area that tells the history of the place and then we were free to wander around. It's only a few minutes visit for a few rupees but don't miss it.

Having lived the entirety of my life in Cochin, I feel guilty ridden of not having visited this magnificent & esteemed monument earlier. Yes, the Jewish Synagogue or more commonly known as the "Paradesi Synagogue" is Mattancherry's best kept secret. Tracing back to its roots in the 16th century, this historical milestone of a building has attracted a significant no.of audience worldwide. The fact that it's conveniently located at the end of the beautiful old Jew town makes it a more appropriate landmark of distinction. The premises are well kept & maintained and there is an aura of calmness as you enter the synagogue's main hall. Your perspective & thoughts get immediately captivated by the antique laden decor featuring colourful hanging lamps, hand painted chinese floor tiles, belgian chandeliers and other historical artifacts. The scrolls & manuscripts seen on the walls conceal a lot of history and heritage of the once thrived Jewish community & and its conception. The synagogue and its adjacent museum itself is a testimony of peace and Kerala's long standing multicultural & religious traditions. It's undoubtedly an irreplaceable piece of a memoir & and a tourist spectacle. It's historical significance makes it a must visit for history enthusiasts and culture explorers.
