We visited on a weekday Friday - it's open till 2pm only on Friday's so plan accordingly. It's closed on Saturday though. Parking can be challenging when visiting on a weekend. We planned to visit covering Synagogue+ Dutch palace+ Jew Street and other museum nearby. As Dutch palace was closed we just walked around it. It shares the Temple wall with Synagogue. It's a peaceful place if u visit when there's no crowd. U can dive into a glimpse of history of Jews settled here and their heritage. It's very interesting to know their journey. Tickets are nominal at rs. 10/-. There's a washroom inside. Try to reach by 10 am so u can get in minus the crowd. Walking from Jew Street towards synagogue is interesting & pleasing to eyes.

The Jewish Synagogue in Kochi still holds a unique charm although is no longer active, There is currently only one Jewish resident in the neighborhood, which adds to the historical significance of the site. The architectural structure of the synagogue is quite interesting, featuring stunning elements such as the Chinese flooring and numerous oil and electric lamps that illuminate the hall. Visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering, which helps preserve the beautiful floor. The synagogue is located in the heart of what was once the Jewish neighborhood, now transformed into a vibrant center filled with shops and stalls. It's a delightful area to explore, making the visit to the synagogue even more worthwhile.

Almost 500 years of history come alive here. Built by Jews who migrated from Europe to escape the Spanish Inquisition, this synagogue offers a glimpse into Jewish culture in India. The architecture beautifully blends old Kerala and Jewish styles, featuring stunning hand-painted Chinese blue tiles, ancient Torah scrolls, and ornate Belgian chandeliers. It has a unique and inviting vibe.

The Paradesi Synagogue, located in the Jew Town area of Mattancherry, Kochi, is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Built in 1568, it stands as a testament to the long history of the Jewish community in Kerala. The term “Paradesi” means “foreigners,” referring to the Sephardic Jews who settled here after fleeing persecution. The synagogue boasts stunning architecture, featuring intricately hand-painted Chinese porcelain tiles, Belgian glass chandeliers, and a gold pulpit. The clock tower, added in 1761, is a distinctive feature. The synagogue also houses ancient artifacts, including copper plates inscribed with privileges granted to the Jewish community by the local rulers. Visiting the Paradesi Synagogue is like stepping back in time. Its serene atmosphere, beautiful interiors, and historical significance make it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and cultural explorers. The adjacent Jew Town offers quaint shops and cafes, adding to the charm of the experience. A remarkable spot to understand Kochi’s multicultural heritage! Note: Saturday is the synagogue is closed so please plan accordingly. Entry ticket 10 per head

"A Peaceful and Historic Gem in Kochi" The Jewish Synagogue in Kochi is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil experience. Nestled in the charming Jew Town, this historic synagogue beautifully showcases Kerala’s rich cultural and religious heritage. The intricate hand-painted Chinese tiles, elegant Belgian chandeliers, and ancient Torah scrolls are awe-inspiring. The surrounding area adds to the charm, with its narrow streets filled with antique shops and local vendors. However, the synagogue can get a bit crowded during peak tourist hours, and photography is not allowed inside, which some might find restrictive. Overall, the serenity and historical significance of this place make it a worthy addition to any Kochi itinerary. Highly recommended for a cultural deep dive!
