Wow, I'm sorry that last reviewer had a negative experience at Paradice, because it's a shame for the place to get a bad rap. We had a really awesome experience there--I mean truly exceptional, beyond expectations, stay there again in a heartbeat kind of experience.
Yeah, the bones are those of an old 50's motel--that's no surprise. Paradice doesn't disguise what it was. But the great looking couple running the place (couldn't help myself--my wife always notices me noticing, but she agreed) has done an excellent job with the place. I'm not sure if they're the owners, or if they're responsible for the updates, but they're certainly responsible for the hospitality.
The place was spotlessly clean and well updated, from the exterior rock garden welcome mats in front of the doors, to the updated multi-tone paint inside (an Asian theme), to the feng shui Pottery Barn furnishings throughout the room.
The rooms are good size, as well: my wife and I shared a small bedroom with a double bed and lockable door, and gave the kids the larger main room with the king bed and the TV. Solitude is more important to us, and besides--I'm fond of her and like snuggling. Guess you didn't really need to know that.
The beds are well-cushioned and comfortable. Not fancy, but comfy. The previous reviewer bemoaned the lack of down comforters, but as we always roast in hotels that have those and end up pulling them off the bed, we were far more comfortable with the warm blankets. And we had no trouble at all with the heaters in the rooms.
This really *is* a boutique motel. Never heard of such a thing before, but it is. A sign on a chalkboard in the room welcomed us by name. There was a plate of fruit and bottles of Perrier left for us each day, and chocolates on the beds at night. We were even left a couple of 'high altitude welcome kits' on the bed that had granola bars, hand moisturizer and analgesics.
When my kids returned the keys to the front desk, they were presented with 'gift bags' that had granola and bottles of water.
I've been in expensive business hotels at 5x the price and never had treatment this good. Sorry to sound like an ad, but we were really happy with Paradice Motel.
