Paradise Lodge is often described as one of the better lodges in the Arba Minch area, and while it does have clear strengths, it also has noticeable weaknesses that prevent it from fully living up to its reputation.
The location is without question the lodge’s strongest asset. It is beautifully situated with wide views over a vast forested area and a small mountain visible on the horizon. The surroundings are calm and scenic, and the setting feels peaceful and remote in a positive way. This is a place where you want to relax and enjoy the view.
The staff are another strong point. Everyone I interacted with was genuinely friendly, polite, and service-minded. Reception was efficient and helpful, and there was a clear willingness to assist whenever needed. The overall attitude of the staff creates a welcoming atmosphere and leaves a positive impression.
The rooms, however, are where the lodge falls short. While they are spacious and the bed, although quite firm, was reasonably comfortable, the rooms are clearly worn and feel poorly finished. The craftsmanship lacks attention to detail, and it feels as if things were done quickly rather than carefully. This becomes especially obvious in the bathroom area. With better execution, the bathroom could have been very good, but instead it feels neglected and dated. On the positive side, everything did function as it should, which is not always a given in the region.
Internet access was limited to the reception area and was unreliable, working only intermittently. For anyone needing consistent connectivity, this will likely be frustrating.
Breakfast was served as a buffet with a selection of dishes. It worked fine and provided what was needed to start the day, but it was fairly basic and not particularly memorable.
In summary, Paradise Lodge has excellent potential thanks to its location and friendly staff, but the rooms and facilities need clear upgrades to match the expectations set by its reputation. With better maintenance and attention to detail, this could be a very good lodge.
As it stands, I would rate it 3 out of 5, even when taking local African standards into account
