Hidden gem in central Thimphu – a Bhutanese eatery that caters to Bhutanese locals rather than tourists. Actual Bhutanese eat and drink here. Menu is available in English but you’ll need to know the words for some Bhutanese items: • Tomza | Like a Bhutanese mixed platter, thali or poké bowl. You choose from various set options. I had the vegetarian. • Tongba | Bhutanese millet beer (served hot like mulled wine, comes with extra hot water to top it up) • Suja | Bhutanese butter tea (served in silver pot, pink in colour)

The settings, foods, and how they serve are so Bhutanese things we are losing due to exposure to other cultures and traditions. It's not so spacious and it is quite difficult to find their entrance. Need a better signboard, especially at the entrance. But prices are reasonable, looking at the portion they serve. Recommended to experience dining in olden Bhutanese settings with modern comfort.

I recently dined at Tomza in Thimphu, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t meet expectations. The food and tea was served cold, which was quite disappointing. I had heard good things about the place, so I was expecting better service and food quality. I hope this feedback helps improve your future customer experience.

Local restaurant serving traditional fare and each meal comes with a pitcher of buttermilk to wash it down. Best to use your hands to enjoy the food here, but they do have cutlery if you ask.

Nice meal of rice with dried beef that was served with milk tea.

If you're looking for authentic Bhutanese food, this restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a cozy ambiance that transported us straight to Bhutan. The flavors were spot on—Ema Datshi was rich and flavorful, the Phaksha Paa was perfectly spiced, and the red rice complemented everything beautifully. Every dish felt like it was made with love and tradition. The service was excellent, with friendly staff happy to explain the dishes and their cultural significance. Whether you're new to Bhutanese cuisine or a longtime fan, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended! Can't wait to come back. 😊

It's difficult to locate this place amidst the crowd of building, more so because it has its gate from behind, next to the Municipal office... But once you are in it's an amazing place. The food is so Bhutanese. I still can't get over the taste of their ezay. With this place on Google Map I hope people will find it easy to get to this great place
