Staff were all great, friendly and efficient. Wonderful surroundings in the Picos de Europa. Buildings and grounds are spectacular and historic. Rooms are super clean, nice and functional, well-kept but I wouldn’t call them recently-renovated. Restaurant (breakfast, lunch) was great, with well-prepared local specialties and excellent service. Nice walk along the river to Cangas de Onis (town), ~30mins

This is one of the loveliest Paradors we have stayed at. The location is great — surrounded by beautiful gardens. And the original monastery building has been lovingly restored. The building contains its own chapel which must be a first. The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful, without exception. We are in the restaurant both nights. The food was great and the staff could not have been more helpful despite being very busy. The location of the hotel - close to the coast and to the Picos de Europa - is ideal. Top marks. We would love to go back.

Superb location and building. We took a walk along the river down to the town. Hotel beautifully decorated and furnished in keeping with the historical building. Fantastic breakfast, great dinner, lovely room.||Thank you for a wonderful first night of our 14 night Parador 30th wedding anniversary tour.||||We had joined the Amigos so had a free breakfast which was a lovely bonus.

This is the place to experience deep history, Take a pause, disconnect, relax and enjoy the quiet of this parador. It is a 3-star room stay and the beds are a bit hard, but the service is excellent. Breakfast buffet and cool to order eggs a delight! The quality of the food is high. ||The building that now houses Parador Cangas de Onis was founded in the 8th century as a monastery by Alfonso I and his wife – the daughter of Pelayo. During the rehabilitation of the Monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva, many artifacts from the various stages in the history of this place were unearthed and rediscovered. Two rooms in the Parador have been set aside as museum display rooms for these artifacts.||Walk down to the river trail through the village to enjoy the horreos - raised houses used for storage of dry goods.

Beautiful historic building, nice reception service. We were “upgraded” to a big room in a part of the building far from reception and close to the noisy road. The restaurant was poor. Over fussy meals. The two things on the menu we actually wanted were off. The menu itself is badly translated into English. We gave up and had food from the bar. Club sandwich turned out to be toasted with a fried egg and cheap ham. The pizza had a poorly cooked base, and far too much undercooked local cheese. I like cabrales blue, but not in that quantity, and in pizza cheese should be melted and accompanied by tomato sauce, of which it was desperately lacking. Breakfast had to be booked for a specified time, one if the many aspects making the guest feel uncomfortable. The selection of food was too fussy, richly flavoured, and served chaotically. Each guest is given wooden prongs to select from the buffet, but with no explanation. The bacon was slimy and cold. Toast self service. Scrambled egg tasteless. The buffet was either cold hams, cheese, or over sweetened pastries covered in syrup. The small yoghurts were good.||Room had a kettle but no supplies. Expensive mini bar in small fridge.||However the walk along the river to the town is beautiful.

One of our party got stuck in the lift and the hotel staff did not recognise the alarm and had no emergency training to deal with the situation. They thought it was a car alarm in the car park ! My friend had to phone me from the lift to seek help as there were no emergency procedures or communication facilities in the lift. The staff could not confirm when help would arrive & did not have access to a key to open the door. Fortunately, the lift doors opened of their own accord after half an hour and our friend was able to escape. The maintenance company arrived 1.5 hours after the alarm was sounded.|Meanwhile, we were all delayed for dinner and obviously concerned for our friend's safety.|No offer of hospitality then and since was given to our friend which is the very least we would have expected for putting him through the trauma of being stuck in the lift with no information whatsoever provided as to when he would be released.|The bottom line is that we would have serious concerns about the staff's ability to react in an emergency situation.

We stayed for two nights at the Parador de Cangas de Onis. It has a fascinating history as a monastery. The food was excellent. Many visitor attractions nearby.

Possibly the worst experience ever in all our years of overseas travel. If you value your safety and expect good customer service then do not stay in Parador de Cangas de Onis. I was trapped alone in their lift for 30 minutes and they thought the emergency alarm was from a car alarm! Management response fell well short of what would normally be expected after a hotel emergency.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on a cycling trip where we followed the Vuelta Espana-2015. This was such a stunning hotel it's hard to describe. It is a historic building (a former Monastery) which is elegant, beautifully restored and modernized. It was our first night of the tour and it was an incredible introduction to Spain! The grounds were beautiful but then so was the surrounding area! We ate dinner at the hotel and the meal was wonderful. The only regret we had is that we arrived fairly late and had to leave early the next day to ride! If you do get the opportunity to stay here, take it! Just make sure you give yourself enough time to truly enjoy the experience!

Yelp
What an exceptional fantastic place. I was blown away by how beautiful and gorgeous this place is. It's hard to describe how wonderful my stay was at this historical site. The room is extremely comfortable with a very comfortable bed and extremely comfortable pillows. The room sizes are big especially when the room was less than €100. The staff is first class. The people obviously careabout you having a comfortable stay but it's obvious that they also take pride in working at such a wonderful historical place and are proud to talk to you about it. The architecture Is stunning and they have Done a fantastic job in keeping the original building in place while adding modern accommodations. The lush green hills full of sheep and cows adds to the feeling of tranquility one feels while visiting northern Spain. I had one of the the 10 best leg of lamb of my life here. The food is cooked slow and with love here. Potatoes soaked in lamb juice. Fresh merluza fish cooked in a saffron sauce over a bed of wild rice. Cheeses of the region (vidiago is my favorite). I believe the cheese from here is the best in the world.
