Parador de La Gomera

This is probably one of the most stunning hotels I’ve stayed in. A converted colonial mansion, with lots of original features, furniture, paintings, inner gardens, fountains. Extremely relaxing atmosphere. ||We stayed in a (enormous) standard room for 11 nights, which don’t normally have a sea view and don’t always have a terrace, but I emailed reception well in advance and they gave us an amazing room on the clifftop with unhindered views from a terrace area. It did also double as a walkway around the hotel so occasionally our peace was broken by wandering guests but most of them took the hint and didn’t hang around too long. The wifi is decent from wjat we could tell although we also had a data sim for streaming tv and films. The TV in your room connects to your devices using chromecast (better for Android devices) so you can watch stuff.||The gardens are beautifully maintained and the pool, while chilly is clean and has incredible views. Plenty of sun loungers. ||All the food was good, I told them I had a gluten intolerance and they always had something on offer at breakfast. We ate lunch and dinner there a few times and although pricier than most restaurants downtown it wasn’t overpriced for the quality. Didn’t find anywhere as nice in town at all, certainly nowhere that openly catered for GF except for a wee cafe. ||The service is a bit laissez faire but they are clearly a bit short staffed at times, once you accept you are on holiday and it’s a slower pace, it’s not a problem. The only pointer is that at breakfast they often don’t take an order (including for coffee as the machines were unreliable) until you’re nearly finished! However the staff were all really good natured and even helped me with my pigeon Spanish :)||My only real ask is that as the food options in San Sebastian are limited, (and it is a hike up and down that hill!) a light lunch option, ie not full fine dining would be a welcome asset by the pool and bar areas. We ended up eating crackers and cheese in our room from the convenience store often for lunch when we didn’t feel like the trek into town. ||A real beautiful experience of a hotel that I would recommend for a different and peaceful break.

Fabulous hotel with all amenities. This historic hotel just above the town center is worth a splurge and a steep location.||Historic buildings, meticulously maintained: lovely pool and garden area, excellent dining room-our best and most typical Canario food of the trip. The rooms had every amenity.|Reception desk was welcoming and helpful.|I would definitely stay there again.

Incredible place. Beautiful building. And absolutely warm, professional and generous staff. Can't ask for more. Everyone went beyond: the reception, the cleaners, the waiters. They made the 10 days that we stayed there a glorious time. I hope we can go back. The restaurant was also great. Creative and tasty takes on local cuisine and really good wines. The specials of the day are often worthy. (highlights include the stuffed courgettes, the octopus or the grouper 'cake') Ideally the pool could be open for a bit longer but considering how empty for most of the time I spent there, can see it is something difficult to justify. (The only thing I would change was the other guests tbh. A few rude guests with a level of impatience that was not only unjustified but quite unpleasant to staff and other holiday makers alike.) Our flight to Madeira was diverted to Tenerife, where we were forced to stay overnight. Rather than take the hotel offered by our airline, we jumped on a ferry, and stayed the night at Parador de la Gomera. We're very glad we did. It was so beautiful and well run (with a great restaurant), it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip: we made lemonade out of lemons!

The hotel is extremely beautiful and the rooms are even so. But it is located on the hill so without a car you would be a bit lost, having to walk up and down the steep streets for every meal or stroll around the city. The pool opens at 11 am to which I consider rather late. The pool is not heated, so depending on the weather quite cold. Especially be careful about whats included in your stay, they told us at the check in but then charged for the very things they told us would be included. No apology for the mix up, nothing.

We had a great time in parador de la gomera. I'll never forget those views, looking at Teide and hearing the sea while lying in bed. Food was great as well, we didn't eat at the restaurant but breakfast was amazing and had food in the bar which was really good although overpriced for what you get. My favourite was the cheesecake, absolutely divine. The room big, spacious and great,a bit old and signs of wearing but for us was perfect.

DO NOT EAT AT THE RESTAURANT IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES ESPECIALLY GLUTEN. Due to a variety of mistakes and poor training, you WILL get sick here. ||The room and hotel are beautiful. But eating here with allergies is a huge problem. I have a gluten allergy. The server at our dinner grandstanded to us about their deep care for and attention to allergies, but then somehow several dishes I was served - even though the “allergy menu” said they were gluten-free - contained gluten. Examples follow:|—For a starter, our waitress was kind enough to inform me that the sauces that came with my potatoes contained gluten. Only after I noticed that their texture looked like they may contain flour. In response they came out with some other alternative (awful-tasting) sauces that were gluten-free. It was a waste of money.|—For a dessert, we ordered an ice cream that we were assured was gluten-free. It had some cookie crumble as a plate decoration that inevitably made its way into the ice cream bowl. I had a few bites of the ice cream and could feel something crunchy in my teeth. I asked our server about this and he “assured” me there was zero gluten in the ice cream. When i asked about the decorative cookie, I was told “oh right. Yeah that had gluten. Oops, sorry.” At that point a heartfelt apology wasn’t going to make my stomach feel better. ||Bottom line I would not eat here again without asking every server, every single step of my meal, for every single item on my table, about every single potential allergen.

The hotel is located on a cliff above San Sebastián, which provides a fantastic view of the beach below and Mt. Teide across the water that separates La Gomera from Tenerife. It is quiet and elegant that offers an old colonial vibe. Our room on the ground floor was large and a door opens out into the garden, which is well laid out and maintained, but planted with numerous invasive trees and plants. The beds were quite comfortable. There are many large rooms that allows guests to roam around or simply to while away in solitude. Of course one could take a swim in the pool.|Unfortunately, the wifi in the room was spotty and unstable -- something that irritated us greatly. The handle of the door that leads out to the garden was wobbly and did not operate properly. The sofa bed was uncomfortable to sit on; we suspect it would be equally uncomfortable to sleep in. The bathroom was functionally restrictive, and the shower was narrow, therefore tight. Worse, it was moldy. The worst part of our experience was at breakfast. The room was severely understaffed, which caused tables to be left uncleaned after guests had finished and left. Meanwhile, guests who arrived later were left standing around waiting to find a table where they could sit and have breakfast. Food and drinks, clean glasses and bowls repeatedly ran out. Yet they charge 21 EUR per person for that quality of service, which we found outrageous.|Overall, we did not have an enjoyable stay and our experience did not meet our expectations.
