Nice hotel marred by complete lack of facilities at hotel and unbelievable rude staff. We stayed two nights and rooms were very clean and comfortable however the restaurant is only open for breakfast (which is very good), there is no bar and rooms lack basic tea and coffee making facilities which should be standard in a establishment of this quality. When we asked the front desk woman if they had a jug to boil water she literally shouted at us they had no facilities (maybe she thought we were deaf or stupid?) and ran away from us. Check in was like something out of fawlty towers I actually felt guilty for disturbing her (same woman) as she obviously had much better things to do with her time than attending to clients. My apologies for the inconvenience having to attend to a paying guest obviously caused them. Actually felt like walking out.

Wow. Super disappointing experience. All I’ve ever heard is how fantastic and special the Paradores are.|I am presently walking the Camino de Santiago and decided to treat myself to what I thought would be a first class stay at a famous Spanish Parador. I booked this location because the other Parador was unavailable.||It is really no better than a low end chain hotel. Despite the stunning building there was zero charm or warm welcome from the reception staff. The room had no complimentary water, coffee, tea, bathroom amenities. The restaurant at the property only serves a buffet breakfast. For over $200USD for a regular room I expect much more than this Parador offers.||It would have been so lovely to sit in one of the beautiful salons in this historic building to enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea with a good book. Nope. I just wanted a cup of coffee in the morning. Not possible. Only full buffet breakfast option. And nothing available in the near vicinity.||When I asked the receptionist about their lack of customer care she said “that’s just what we do”.||I won’t try another Parador while I am in Spain to be able to compare. This experience ruined it for me. I would highly recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

Very nice room, and superbly comfy bed. A lovely historic parador, and very friendly helpful reception staff. Given excellent recommendation for a tapas bar within easy walking distance. On street parking is possible in a street behind the hotel. |Didn’t have breakfast, so cannot comment on this. However the slight downside is that, apart for breakfasts, you have to walk to the other Parador in Santo Domingo for a Parador dining experience.

First of all, in the 6 months that I am travelling with my bicycle this is the FIRST hotel where they have no place for my bike?? They told me at the reception to park the bike at their other hotel a few streets away. I said that this was quite inconvenient and asked to rebook in the other hotel. This was also not possible. After some walking I was finally in my room, but instead of having a good night sleep I could enjoy the conversation of my neighbours quite clearly… Very disappointed sadly!!

Central location in Santo Domingo close to cathedral, cafes, Main Street shops. Very quiet courtyard location. Very comfortable well appointed bedrooms with modern bathrooms. Breakfast available and dining options in hotel as well as nearby restaurants.

We knew about the cafe and restaurant, but were not aware that the bar was not open. We found the disused bar behind a screen. As it was raining, it would have been nice to be able get a hot drink at the hotel, rather than having to venture out. As they offer hot breakfasts, I don't understand why this can not be done.

Yelp
Gayle and I stayed at this Parador during our recent visit to Santo Domingo. The nearby Parador de Santo Domingo de la Calzada is a bit more luxurious and located right at the Cathedral and the Camino de Santiago. However, we weren't complaining as we had a wonderful time during our stay here. The Parador is located in the former Convent of San Francisco, an easy 800 meter walk to the historical centre of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. The Parador itself is located in a former pilgrim hostel and has 3 different and unique segments (the Church, the Museum, and the Hotel). One Tour book mentions that this Parador is a hospitality training venue for the entire chain. Folks were certainly nice here, as Gayle and I not only enjoyed the service, but felt at home and comfortable in their nice Lounge, Bar Area, and Breakfast Room. The room was nice, the bed gave us a great night's sleep, and I particularly enjoyed the view into the Courtyard. Gayle's only "complaint" was that the bathroom was somewhat utilitarian, that the SWAG wasn't as good as this Parador's 4 and 5 Star Cousins, and that she left her pajama bottoms behind. We would both love to come back and retrieve it!
