Parador de Sos del Rey Católico

This is the perfect parador! Everything is flawless from the beauty of the setting through the building and accommodation - rooms are spacious, very quiet and impeccably clean - to the fine dining restaurant. Service is friendly and efficient. Our dinner of roasted local lamb accompanied by a Navarro red wine was beyond delicious. Sos del Rey Católico is what Roquebrune and other French and Italian Tuscan hill towns were before the tourist invasion: a gorgeous, small village perched high above the rolling Aragonese and Navarro plains with views of the Pyrenees. Walking around is stepping back into the Spain of The Catholic Kings and Don Quixote. Everything was amazing.

Unfortunately not a positive experience at this Parador. Due to a wedding taking place that day no lunch was available. Bar and cafeteria were closed until 8pm when their usual opening hours are 11am - 23.30. Dinner wasn’t available until 9.30pm due to the wedding plus another large booking. Usual opening hours 8pm - 10pm. No notification at the time of booking was given of the wedding and the lack of hotel services including food. A request for a refund on the dinner element was denied. Rooms were lovely & comfortable and the breakfast choices fantastic. Just a shame we didn’t get to experience the dinner we had prepaid.

The peaceful setting and the age of this Parador was just what we hoped to find. Our welcome st Reception by Francisco was appreciated. The interior was classically maintained and the bedroom was well appointed. The terrace was a delightful place to have an early evening drink - served by a young man who made a good effort at speaking English - as we watched the house martins diving in and out of the eaves. The menu concentrated on local specialities but could have included a more cosmopolitan offering. My main fish course was undercooked and the second attempt was unpleasant and remained uneaten. Despite this, it was quite an enjoyable visit.

Parador SOS del Rey Católico is a fantastic hotel. It manages to keep the charm of a beautiful old building whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and service. Food was excellent and all the staff were helpful and friendly. The location is unbeatable. A charming hilltop village with stunning views.

The Sos del Rey Parador is beautiful and the accommodation is excellent. I’m only giving this review four starts because (1) the town itself was out of the way and not very interesting and (2) the breakfast staff were oddly rude to me. I have stayed at many Paradores so I have no idea why. Maybe they were quarreling before I arrived? Anyway, a nice place.

Excellent room (junior suite). Excellent quality/price relationship. Good food although lacking variety of good quality spanish wines.

Comfortable, peaceful and clean parador with excellent food. Staff are friendly and helpful. This was our third visit and will return.

A great location for exploring the area and especially the history village of Sos del Rey Catolica. The views are incredible from the hotel.
