The building is impressive, but is surprisingly not very old. We had booked for 2 nights as our first parador experience, but ended up staying just one night, mainly due to the awful restaurant. The atmosphere in the hotel was distinctly lacking and the staff generally gave the appearance of not wanting to be there. The only staff to smile at us were the cleaning staff. The restaurant was the real problem - a cheeseboard shared for the starter a 18 euros was adequate but lacking in imagination and small for the price. We both had a fish main course - one cod (25 euros) and one turbot (28 euros). The quantity of food received was ridiculously small one spoonful of mushy veg with the cod and no veg with the turbot, just a few tinned mussels and a couple of clams. Neither came with any carbs. Even worse was that the food arrived very quickly and was almost cold, as though it had been prepared earlier and just warmed up a little. The cod was sent back to be heated up - no apology and it took over 15 minutes to reappear - it was a bit warmer but completely tasteless. The turbot was not much better. After a couple of mouthfuls we decided that it was inedible. Waiters walked past multiple times - it was obvious that we were not eating the food, but no interaction from them. We left and went to reception to complain (we never do this normally). The woman took some notes and said that she would pass them on. The next morning at breakfast, one of us ordered eggs - they never came. We decided to check out, and the message from the previous night had not been passed on, so we had to explain again. We said that we would not pay for the main courses we had, and these were deducted from the bill. We could not stay the second night as there was no way we would eat in the restaurant, and there was nowhere else nearby to eat, as it is about 2.5km from Teruel an a busy main road. All in all, a very poor first experience of a parador.
