The Best Road Trip in Italy You’ve Never Heard Of - AFAR

"A vast coastal archaeological complex anchored by towering 4th-century BCE Messapian walls and traversed by ancient Roman roads, it combines monumental chamber tombs, the traceable path of the Via Appia/Traiana, and a recently redesigned museum that presents over 3,000 artifacts from warrior burials to early Christian treasures; visitors can also snorkel to see remnants of a rebuilt Roman harbor lying just offshore, creating a striking juxtaposition of seaside leisure and deep antiquity." - Erica Firpo

Such a fascinating place. The museum is great, and the outside area is fascinating too. For English speakers I highly recommend you pay the €5 for the audio guide, it was really informative and brought it all to life. Staff were really friendly and helpful too. Highly recommended

We drove for an hour and a half to find this place and there was literally no way in to it. It was completely closed despite being within opening hours and there was no parking. Really disappointing.

Very nice archeological site and museum, the only downside was that most descriptions inside the museum are in Italian only
