The 48 Best Things to Do in Paris

"The Philharmonie de Paris is a striking contemporary building, designed by Jean Nouvel (not without controversy) and opened in 2015. Located within the Cité de la Musique complex in the Parc de la Villette, in the underexplored 19th arrondissement, the building breaks with all the design conventions of traditional symphony halls, instead favoring pod-like boxes inside the theater, a stage in the round, and a complex, undulating metal façade." - Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, Julia Eskins

Amazing acoustics! Every seat sounds superb. Fantastic programming! Incredible and interesting architecture. The waiting areas are also pleasing and there is a bar for refreshments and snacks as well. There are several places to eat close by. Don’t miss the Musée de Musique and their bookstore as well! Make a day of it!

That was awesome ! Acoustics is on the level, service is courteous, space is very light, attractive and relaxing. And, of course, music is wonderful.

The Philharmonie is the worst concert hall I have ever been to. The very strange building design has stainless steel and various textured coverings and is very forbidding. At access level the black reflective glass makes it impossible to see how to enter, and once inside there is a large empty space. No bar, only a small poorly stocked cafe. No life. There are supposedly bars on the various floor levels, except ours on 5 was closed. There was no pre order of drinks available. The auditorium, like the building, was obviously designed by someone hallucinating. The orchestra is nearly central, and the proximity and steep raking of the seating to the orchestra means the safety rails between each row considerably restrict the view. The website has no map of the auditorium, and when booking seats there is no information where they are. All in all a triumph of French lack of logic and supremacy of grotesque form over function. The actual concert was good, and the acoustics also good.

The seating is very well organized. You can have a decent view even sitting up high.

Our visit here was memorable. The acoustics of the building are terrific and it’s a visual wonder. It should be noted that the balcony seats in the choir, left of stage, while comfortable and affording excellent visibility suffer from the perhaps inevitable problem of hearing the soloist (pianist Yunchan Lim) over the brass section of the orchestra behind which we were seated. Overall a terrific and memorable experience.
