The 48 Best Things to Do in Paris

"The Philharmonie de Paris is a striking contemporary building, designed by Jean Nouvel (not without controversy) and opened in 2015. Located within the Cité de la Musique complex in the Parc de la Villette, in the underexplored 19th arrondissement, the building breaks with all the design conventions of traditional symphony halls, instead favoring pod-like boxes inside the theater, a stage in the round, and a complex, undulating metal façade." - Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, Julia Eskins

Enjoyed seeing a well-staged Kandinsky exhibit; that tied his paintings into the music that inspired them. As patrons moved through the exhibit their headphones played carefully chosen musical selections to help tell the story of the artist's personal creative progression. The exhibit and the holistic sensory experience complemented the musical mission of the institution itself. The entrance to the building is on its east side. There is a coat check, restrooms, and a gift shop. The outside of the building is a spectacular contemporary swirl of platforms and surface decorations. The tiles resemble flocks of birds rising into the air and responding to the birds who fly around the park that surrounds the building.

2 incredible concerts in this venue with the Paris orchestra in November and December 2025. The place is amazing, the stage and the orchestra is immersed in the concert hall and the audience almost surrounding it. It’s a must see /must go. There is a Kandinsky exhibition on the ground floor now until the end of January that is exceptional.

I had a fantastic time exploring the Museum of Music during a visit to the Paris Philharmonic in mid-August 2025. The permanent collection features art and instruments of music genres from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Americas. An audio guide is included in the museum experience. It was really easy for me to spend a few hours exploring the museum. Definintely worth a visit for all music lovers but especially for instrumental musicians and/or persons with formal music training.

Amazing acoustics! Every seat sounds superb. Fantastic programming! Incredible and interesting architecture. The waiting areas are also pleasing and there is a bar for refreshments and snacks as well. There are several places to eat close by. Don’t miss the Musée de Musique and their bookstore as well! Make a day of it!

A soaring, spacious concert hall with seating for over 2000 and lovely accoustics. We attended a Martha Argerich piano concert. We weren't particularly close to the stage but heard everything clearly had a beautiful view of her hands on the piano. I have to say, though, that access to the venue is awkward. There is no space close to the entrance to pull up a car. Uber drivers - apparently unfamiliar with anything but exactly where they must drop you off - drop you off out of site of the entrance - and several hundred yards away. And there was no signage. This made for a disconcerting start to the evening for a couple of out of town tourists being dropped off at night.

That was awesome ! Acoustics is on the level, service is courteous, space is very light, attractive and relaxing. And, of course, music is wonderful.

Our visit here was memorable. The acoustics of the building are terrific and it’s a visual wonder. It should be noted that the balcony seats in the choir, left of stage, while comfortable and affording excellent visibility suffer from the perhaps inevitable problem of hearing the soloist (pianist Yunchan Lim) over the brass section of the orchestra behind which we were seated. Overall a terrific and memorable experience.
