I think the Park Avenue has potential to be better. The staff here were very friendly, polite and helpful when needed but I had a few issues with the hotel. I stayed in the Park Avenue for 19 NIGHTS when I traveled to Belfast from the USA for the World Police and Fire Games. Being from a different country, the only way I could communicate with my job and family back home was via the internet. The Park Avenue offers free WiFi, if you can stay connected. I had two devices that I was connecting to WiFi, my laptop and my iPhone, and was constantly losing connection from both. When I was connected, the signal was incredibly weak. The only place I could get a good signal, in the toilet, holding my computer over the sink. I found this to be VERY frustrating when trying to get in touch with family.
Another "issue" I had was housekeeping. They did a great job and serviced everything I needed. However, there is no "Do Not Disturb" sign in the room to hang on the door. This means that SEVERAL mornings, I was awakened by housekeeping coming in the room. I would have to get up to tell them I didn't want/need service that day.
Air Conditioning: I realize Belfast doesn't get very warm, but when you are hosting people from around the world that are used to different climates, we like to be able to control the temperature a little bit. My room had A/C, and I set it as low as it would go, 19° C (66°F), but assure you, not once did my room cool off from the A/C in the 20 days I was there. The only way to cool my room, was to open the windows at night. The A/C was USELESS
Park Avenue is also removed from the City Center and there is nothing to do near the hotel, so if you want to go into town, you'll need a taxi (it's cheap though, only about £5-£6)
My last and final issue was having a guest denied access to the hotel. A guest that was being escorted in by me, not someone that randomly showed up. As a paying customer, and an adult, I don't expect to be treated like a child and told I am not allowed to have a visitor.
Because of these reasons, it is not likely that I will stay at the Park Avenue during my next visit. I want to reiterate that the staff were very friendly and kind, it was just the way some things were operated that bothered me.
