"Historic Preservation Park City has more than 80 buildings on the National Historic Register and locals take pride in getting historic preservation grants to fix up the old miners' shacks left behind from the silver mining days in the late 1890s. The best way to see a bunch of them is to take a historic walking tour from the Park City Museum June through September. Or attend the annual Historic Home Tour in June. Or simply walk or drive around Historic Old Town and soak in the turn-of-the-century charm of colorful houses dotting our hillsides."

Very nice, antique unique museum small but lots of story and mystery about this museum !! we like it and my kids enjoy a lot. They are so curious and interest about jail in 18 centuries.

The Park City Museum is an absolute gem! Diving into the town's silver mining history felt like stepping into an epic adventure straight out of Lord of the Rings—think rugged miners as the unsung heroes of Middle-earth. The exhibits are so immersive they made my head dizzy with fascination, especially with cool pens scribbling notes like Bilbo crafting his tales. It’s a thrilling ride through time that left me awestruck—truly epic!

This was a small but nice museum. We loved learning about Park City’s history. Definitely recommend.

Located on Main St, the museum covers the history and heritage of the area. Three floors with elevators make the museum accessible to ADA. There are many exhibits and artifacts, including interactive displays. The history of mining was well done and interesting. Service dogs are allowed to enter the fee is $15 and $11 for seniors. Veterans are free.

Google
Nice small museum providing a great history of the region in the early days of mining. Catch the special exhibit of Backstage Hollywood: The Photographs of Bob Willoughby - we loved the photographs.

Google
Took my girls and we all LOVED this museum. It was easily manageable for kids, not busy, very hands on and entertaining, informative and we loved all the exhibits. We spent about 1.5 hours in the museum, which I think is likely about the average time. I also loved how many local artists were featured in the museum store. 10/10 highly recommend

We had a free day from skiing in Park City and visited this museum to learn about the history of the area. It is very organized and informative. It is fascinating to see the transformation of the area from a mining town to a ski resort. It is a small museum yet worth the visit if you have time.

Yelp
So I love museums, but I usually find city or regional museums a little too dense. HOWEVER, I'm so glad our hotel had BOGO admissions coupons because we would have been missing out on this. From sound, light, and motion effects, to the exhibits themselves, I was blown away by how much knowledge was packed into a tiny building. There's a gift store in front and bathrooms down the stairs to the right (so none in the museum itself). You can buy tickets for $15 or at a discounted price for students/seniors/veterans/etc at the cash register before exploring three floors covering mining history, the fire that took out most of the city, the old jail, and cool relics. You watch the intro movie in an old train car and even get to sit in the old underground subway cars that were used to transport early skiers through mining tunnels. There's so much more to Park City than the skiing, but I would've never known if I hadn't visited :)

Yelp
I love this museum! It's interactive because you can push buttons, sit in carts, and walk through mines and prison cells! The information is engaging, and there is something to interest beyond! I had no idea Park City had such a rich history, and I loved learning new things about Utah! There is also a wonderful gift shop with a bunch of fun items for people of any age!! If you're looking do something fun to do in Park City, definitely visit the Park City Museum!

Yelp
We finally made it to the Park City Museum to learn a thing or two about our new hometown. The Park City Museum offers history on the town, local mining, skiing, and they have room for traveling exhibits. This is actually a very fun museum! There is a lot to touch, many interactive learning exhibits, and as you'd expect plaques to read. The fee is $15/adult; $11/senior, student, or military; $5/child 7-17; free for kids 6 or younger . But membership starts as low as $100 and you get free entry plus some bonuses like special event invitations. We're proud members and love this connection to our community. If you come visit, consider visiting as the donation go to continuing efforts in preserving Park City's history such as old structures in the town and on our mountains, and exhibits in the museum.

Yelp
We had some time to burn between brunch and our flight, so while walking around Main St we stopped in. It's actually a really cool little museum. We learned a lot about Park City that we didn't know. It's well done. There ard enough interactives to engage kids and enough print to interest adults. The scale models of the mine shaft and the mines in general is fascinating. A great value for the $15 adult ticket we paid.

Yelp
Great place to learn some more about Park City and Utah history. The price is very fair as there is lots of information and exhibits to explore about westward expansion, mining, the local judicial system (c1800s,) and photo exhibits.

Yelp
This museum was darling and really fun to wander in. My kids adored the gift shop as much as I did. It was a treasure to find these rocks and tiny little mice. It has a charm that you can't miss.

Yelp
A fun little museum that has all the things kids love to play with while having more than enough for adults to enjoy as well.

Yelp
This little gem on historic Main Street as a welcome find! Cute little shop with free visitor's information and advice on the area. Free admission to the museum on the day we visited. Small but well executed displays over 3 stories about the history and development of the early mining town and its progression into the ski mecca of today.

Yelp
More than I expected! This is a very well done history of Park City. My guy and I found it educational, nicely presented, and entertaining. The museum is three small levels and covers everything from Park City's early days of "the Wild West", mining, the fire of mass destruction, gambling and prostitution, becoming a ski resort, and it's internationally famed Sundance film festival. I'm a mom with a teenager and a 20 year old. With that said, I would say kids in 3rd grade and older would enjoy this museum. It's visually stimulating, and there are short audio and video presentations throughout. The old jail in the basement is pretty cool. I'm glad I wasn't a criminal in those days (or now). I also found the three dimensional model of mining fascinating. Well worth a visit. If you need to let your body have an afternoon off from skiing, or you just enjoy history, stop in. You'll be glad you did. Let me know what you think.

Yelp
If you're walking Main Street take a stop at the Park City Museum. Must go downstairs and check out all the fun..

Yelp
This is an interesting museum, as you get to the gift shop way before you are asked to pay ticket if you want to finally enter in the museum. So shop before you get to know what is in there! Gift shop is amazing, you will get to expand you rock and stones collection (I cant resist!), I got also several postcards depicting ski posters from past decades, very colorful and inspiring. Many old photos of this mining town from the turn of the century. Also, if you are a magazine hoarder like I am, here is the place to get all those freebies mags where you can read history of Park City, check coupons for your next restaurants and check what is cooking that week you visit. Cool place for a stop and get some souvenirs.

Yelp
This is a really fun and interactive museum in PC that is great fun for the family! It is a three level museum talking about the start of PC and where it is today! There is a lot of hands on learning tools as well as many informative information about everything! The best part about it is that the second Tuesday of every month is a free day! Great for locals who just want to enjoy PC for the day!

Yelp
Possibly the best small museum we have ever been too. We were lucky it wasn't crowded and we could take our time exploring the exhibits. There were lots of interactive and informative things to explore about the history of the town, it's mining history, and the development of the skiing destination. Would 100% recommend if you are in Park City and enjoy history.

Yelp
A real gem right on main street with very knowledgeable staff. We learned so much about the history of Park city! Its engaging, three floors and has new rotating exhibits too. The gift shop is also excellent and I highly recommend getting a membership for the monthly talks, walks, even snowshoeing. We had two teenagers, booked a time and spent a great 30 minutes exploring!!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
This place was SO fun! Yes, I said a museum was fun! Haha... so neat to see models of the mines and learn how they did it without the use of modern day tools. The kids really enjoyed the interactive exhibits like the one in the photo I posted. I recommend this place-fun for the entire family!!

Yelp
The Park City Museum is actually two things: a museum and a cool little gift shop. If you don't want to shell out $10 for a regional museum, you still have a stellar gift shop: books (both local history and humor); a colorful gemstone collection station (both your kids and you will love it); local artwork (I picked up a cool painting of the Egyptian Theater that I love); and a whole bunch of kid's stuff the little ones will love. Then, the museum. A little pricey for the adults ($10), a better deal for the kids ($5 for 7-17, the rest free). It's definitely worthwhile if you've got kids; I, as an adult, find it to be forgettable. So go if you've got the kids in tow, see the museum. Minus the kids, just check out the excellent gift shop to find some local treasures.

Yelp
We were in Park City and saw a brochure in the hotel lobby so we decided to check the place out. A lot of interesting history. I assumed Park City was just a resort area and didn't realize it had a past of a mining town. When we paid we were told it was about 45 mins to go through the small museum but it took my spouse and about 1.5 hours. Neat artifacts and nice displays. Worth the stop.

Kristen C.

Yelp
We called to ask if the museum would be open on New Years Day and we're told it would be so we scheduled it for our last day. It is something my husband really wanted to see. We arrive at 1:45 and we're told they are closing at 2 due to the weather. When I express my frustration I am told they could not have known about the storm. Mind you it has been storming on and off here for 4 weeks and the weather said it would be storming today and yet we were never told it would close early due to weather when we called. Poor costumers service and reading other comments shows there is confusion about their hours. Shame we will never see it because the exhibit receives excellent reviews but we will never go due to rude inconsiderate staff who do not respect people and their time.

Yelp
What a delightful find in the middle of historic Park City. We spent about an hour going through the various exhibits about Park City. The museum is located in reconstructed historic buildings which includes the actual jail and firehouse. Several exhibits caught my eye: development of skis, the silver mining equipment, including a bicycle mining car, the historic fire truck.

Theresa B.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Great information, history, interactive stations and a great gift shop. Come on down!! My friend found information on her relatives who lived and worked here. Wonderful!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun stop for the kids. Nice gift shop and adjoining museum. The museum is fairly small and there is an admission fee. Our kids love looking at all the cool artifacts and trinkets.

Yelp
We visited the Park City Museum this January and were impressed with the three levels of displays and information. The original jail is on the bottom floor and there are interactive exhibits throughout. The only negative (and it was a big negative) was the unfriendliness of the staff. We arrived at 5:45 (museum closed at 7) and asked how long it would take to meander through. We were told 45 minutes to an hour, which we discovered is completely incorrect if you are actually interested in watching the videos and reading even half the placards (I'd recommend 2 hours). At 6:57 the staff told us the museum was closed and started rushing us out. We thanked them and were barely acknowledged in return. I'd recommend checking out the museum for the info alone and hopefully other staff will be working.

Yelp
It looks bigger on the inside. Interesting interactive exhibits. Reconstructed store from olden days is really interesting. The mining and ski history of the city is the whole reason for fans to go. It's pretty good for a small town museum. + interactive exhibits also kid friendly + the original artifacts are always fascinating + beautiful model of the mine
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Overpriced but kids loved it and they learned a lot. Their favorite was blasting in the mines and learning about the jail. Cute part of main street family friendly.
google avatar

Claire H.

Yelp
What an awesome little museum! The storefront is somewhat deceptive in that all you can see is the pretty extensive gift shop, but the museum itself is surprisingly charming. Well thought out, nicely designed placards and interactive information, and a great selection of artifacts from throughout Park City's history. I loved the tiny mine- hard to deny how adorable tiny little carts and assay offices are- but the real highlight for me was seeing the intact jail in the basement. Would happily come back just to see that space again; it's definitely worth a couple hours of your day if you have the time. :)

Patty W.

Yelp
Lacking in customer service: misinformation on opening hours and had to physically show them the different hours. 10:00 am vs 11:00 am. When we told him that we would return at 11:00 he could have mentioned that we would need a reservation opposed to showing up and then not be able to enter until 12:00.
google avatar

Kenny B.

Yelp
Museum was a lot larger than what it appears to be when you first walked in. Really interesting exhibits, with lots of interactive stuff. Learned a lot of interesting information about Park City while here. Didn't have children with me, but definitely think they would be entertained here as well. Had some creepy stuff, like a clown exhibit (and just to note I am not afraid of clowns and found it a bit creepy), and they downstairs jail cell which the lights automatically dim when you walk in (almost peed my pants when that happened. Thought the power was going out and I was going to be stuck downstairs with no lights. A sign letting you know that is going to happen would be much appreciated)

Yelp
This is one of the coolest museums. There is so much history in Park City and it all unfolds at the Park City Museum. From the history of the minors or the ladies of the night... Where the settlers came from and how they survived... You don't want to miss this!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this tour as much as I did. Visiting Park City and then seeing the history behind the area was truly unique. I don't think the advertising does it justice. The movies and experiences from the mine elevators to the old ski rails were so awesome. It was a small museum but so many cute things to see. My favorite was the Route 66 exhibit.
google avatar

Kaaren D.

Yelp
Came across this wonderful museum during my last visit to Park City. I was pleased to find it is much larger than it looks on the outside, and has wonderful interactive exhibits. It is a must see the next time you are in town.
google avatar

Nell B.

Yelp
What a fun little way to pass some time. I will preface this with an honest "I am NOT a museum kind of person", but this was actually interesting and fun! You enter off Main Street and of course walk through the cute overpriced little gift shop. The ladies behind the counter were more than excited to help us out - and got us tickets (mine at a discounted student price of $8!) before walking us in and explaining the couple ways to navigate. I do wish they would have explained the "white buttons" a little more as the first one I touched set off an alarm that I was too close to the exhibit! There are some nice videos, some cool artifacts and it is laid out really nicely. We were in there about an hour, saw all three levels and watched a couple movies. Check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best local museums I've been to! Interesting, well curated exhibits! Really high quality. A good way to spend 2 hours when you're taking a break from skiing.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
The Park City museum opened about a year ago. It's a good way to get a high level overview of Park City's mining and skiing history. The museum is small (it took about an hour to tour) but full of informational videos and artifacts from Park City. The basement floor houses an original jail -- you can actually walk into the prison cells. Very nicely done and really interesting (though I'm unsure if it would hold the attention of children under 12). A great way to get to know the city!

Yelp
Whenever I came to Park City growing up, I would always be sure to walk through the museum and especially to visit the old jail in the basement. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! When I visited to Utah with some friends, I had told them about the creepy old jail in Park City and we they were excited to see it (they're dorks just like me!). I was very sad to see that the museum was closed when we got to Main Street. Apparently it's been closed for quite some time for AN 8.9 MILLION DOLLAR RENOVATION. Holy cats! Now, anyone who ever went to the old museum remembers that it was just a couple tiny rooms with the jail in the basement. It wasn't much, but it was cute and quaint. I would love to know how they are even spending that amount of money on this place. There is some serious cash in this city these days! This rating is a combination of how much I liked going into the old museum (4 stars) and how I felt when I saw the old museum had been ripped out and that crazy amount of money was being spent on something that would never be the same (no stars). I just hope the jail is still in the basement when it reopens in Fall 2009:- /

Yelp
I've been to other small town/touristy place with museums, and they have left something to be desired...this is not the case with the Park City Museum! Their exhibit material was first rate, the artifacts themselves were excellent and easy to examine. The scale model mine was spectacular and full of detail. The audio and video exhibits were just the right length, with good pacing and interesting facts about the development of the town, the mining life, the "Skiers Subway", the Great Fire, and the Sundance Film Festival. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and the exhibit information was augmented by Bill, who introduced us to the exhibits and was generally an excellent source of great information on the town.

Yelp
Interesting place. I thought it was a tad expensive , but my buddy thought it was more than fair. Well put together and very informative.

Yelp
I love museums, but I was a bit skeptical when I saw all the good reviews for the Park City Museum on Yelp and TripAdvisor. But legitimately, this museum was so good, and so enjoyable to visit, I think everyone visiting Park City should stop in to learn a little about the area. Everything in the museum was in good working order, and maintained really well. Each area of the museum starts with a video, and you do cool stuff like sitting in old mine cars to watch them. The videos are triggered by motion in and out of areas, so you are able to start them from the beginning instead of starting in the middle of a playback. Visitors learn about the history of settlement in Utah, mining in the Park City area, the birth of the ski culture and other things like the Sundance Film Festival. There are interactive elements in the different areas, and I loved learning about Park City and exploring everything the museum had to offer. You finish off in the gift shop, which has some neat local items. I went on a weekday and it wasn't at all busy, and after reading and watching everything I spent just over an hour. Highly recommended!

Jim M.

Yelp
We visited the museum and were supposed to get a senior discount but the old ladies at the entrance didn`t complete 2nd grade and we were overcharged. The rest was OK, except for the old poorly restored ford mustang. Won`t go back.

Yelp
The Park City Museum is a great way to spend a couple of hours if you are new to Park City (and even if you aren't). My kids seem to drag me there everytime we're in town. The museum isn't quite as big as it seems, but it's jam-packed with interesting and interactive exhibits about the history of Park City (and Utah) from it's mining days to become a destination ski resort to hosting the Sundance Film Festival. There's also an area near the front that has temporary exhibits that don't usually seem to have anything to do with Park City, specifically, but are still very interesting.
google avatar

Andrea V.

Yelp
Big museum. 3 levels. Very interesting and informative! Kids get a paper to fill out with a few questions and win some polished rocks or magnets at the end.

S J.

Yelp
We found it terribly fascinating!! The history of the city, mining, the jail, general store, and skiing were all super neat. The basement jail is very eery. We loved it! It's a touch pricey for admission, but what isn't in park city?! My 9 year old loved the kids game and rock prize at the end. If your in town looking for something a little different- especially if history interests you and your kids, don't pass this up.

Candice S.

Yelp
Before vacationing in Park City, I had no idea about the deep mining history in Park City. We loved the museum and it had great interactive displays for our kids. We learned so much about Park City and loved the original jail cell in the basement. It also had an old firetruck which was pretty neat to look at.
google avatar

D. W.

Yelp
I was not aware this place existed until right before the visit here and I rather enjoyed the historical nature of it all, particularly the elements about the "wild West" nature of the town and the great fire thing. The tawdry and pretentious nature of the city now I find increasingly difficult to stomach these days and there is lots of tacky crap in the gift store part to pick up, if you're so inclined, but that shouldn't take away from the intricate nature of the Mega Mine, which is a marvel in itself like a most awesome large-scale toy. If you like old stuff as much as me, you'll dig the elevator carts and the old packaging materials in the Smith & Brim store, though the stupid annoying security alarm endlessly chirping was a rather large pain in the ass and a woeful distraction. You can go down some ultra-stairs into a jail you would never want to spend time in and check that out, then move along to some of the mine-specific exhibits. Those were neat, but the old fire truck next to the old-tyme bar was definitely of far greater interest to me. I also got a kick out of the old stagecoach and the area around the old fire truck was also highly interesting. I don't think I would make it a habit to go here frequently, but they have done a nice job and this is unquestionably worth a visit if you've never been.

Anon A.

Yelp
A wonderful way to explore the history of park city! It took us about an hour to finish the museum, and the guide that helped us in the beginning was very helpful and knew what she was taking about.
google avatar

Pete E.

Yelp
This place is one of the best things about main street. Who doesn't want to go check out the historical jail. Great old photos, exhibits and videos, they packed a lot of stuff in here. You can try out a silver mine drill and push the button to set off the dynamite in the mine, and climb in all kinds of old mining stuff including a ski subway! Perfect amount of things to see for the time challenged visitor, fun for kids and interesting stuff for adults too! Worth a visit.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Excellent, well thought out, interactive and dare I say educational experience. The curators have put a lot of effort into this museum I say this as a history buff, but all users will find this a valuable visit.

Cherie L.

Yelp
I was really impressed by their exhibits and attention to detail. My only suggestion would be to lower the entrance fee from $10 to $5 so more people would be enticed to see this great little museum.
google avatar

Eryn J.

Yelp
Took my two year old here while the big guys were skiing. It is very well set-up. Not much for for a little one to do, but she seemed happy---until we were down in the basement and she discovered what looked like an interactive exhibit where she could pretend to explode dynamite into a rock. It made noise and shook the rock a bit. She was thrilled and did it a few times. At which point, an elderly volunteer came up to us with a dismayed face and told us she needed to stop because we were being bothersome to the other guests. I honestly thought he was kidding, but he was clearly not. I told him it looked like an interactive exhibit and if they don't want kids using it the way it was intended, perhaps they should have a sign or something. He did not even acknowledge my comment and walked away. Was not impressed. :/ too bad.
