Where to Stay in Sydney (Updated 2025)

"I liked this mid-range hotel for its rooftop pool and city views, its excellent central location that gives easy access to main attractions, and the added value of a free airport shuttle." - Matthew Kepnes

If you want a hotel that has a perfect location and amazing staff then this is the one for you. Other than that the rooms were still dusty, quite small, and we had towels that were stained with bits of yellow and red. The mattress also had no protector and was stained as well. There was hair still in the drain of the sink, and it would be a lot nicer if there was a glass door instead of a shower curtain that’s a bit grubby in the shower.

Had to poo sideways! The hotel bathroom was so cramped that the sink was directly in front of the toilet so I had to poo sideways! I’m only 6ft tall so hardly a giant. It was one of those bathrooms where no matter what you do, all the water from the shower ends up all over the floor. What the hell is it with Hotels thinking that inadequate drainage is cool?!? There weren’t any pool towels. There were no ceiling lights in our rooms! Only lamps. And only 1 PowerPoint per lamp so you have to unplug your lamp when you want to charge a phone. The PowerPoint didn’t even have an Earth point (the 3rd bottom one) either so no good if you have decent charging bank. Clearance in the carpark is 1.9m so difficult if you’re driving an SUV with a roof rack. An extra $46 per day for parking too and card didn’t work on parking boom gate so had to intercom the desk and wait for response to park each time. Not enough room in the tiny bar fridge for even a 6pack and not cold enough either. Location was good though. Nice and easy walking access to all the tourist spots in central Sydney. But damn, I mean really, who the hell comes up with these sub par hotel designs that don’t even meet the minimum standards of government housing commission flats in terms of drainage, lighting and general comfort yet give themselves a Star rating. If I could rate this hotel it would score Half a Toilet!

The rooms, though compact, are impeccably maintained. The shower area is notably confined. Overall, this establishment offers a satisfactory stay, especially given its prime location within the central business district, and the room dimensions do not significantly detract from the experience. Roof Top Pool's was looking dirty, so cancelled the plan to swim.

Had to get a room since Qantas cancelled my flights at the last minute. Arrived at the Park Regis, very quick and efficient service at reception. Eas checked into a room in under 5mins. The room was extremely spacious, huge bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy. Had a great nights sleep, had a pretty good mattress and more than enough pillows.

This hotel is a good option if you're looking for a place sleep but not to spend much time during the day. It is clearly an older property with a dated design. The rooms and bathrooms are small. However staff work hard to make up for it with their courtesy, efficiency and professionalism. They keep it clean and there are some good elements like a large desk to work from. The location is superb - close to Hyde Park and the centre of town with great connectivity, sight seeing, shopping and dining options.

Stayed here for three nights on my recent trip to Australia and Bangkok.||Good location and reasonably priced (c.£315 for three nights).||Unfortunate that there was no opportunity for early check-in, especially after a 23 hour journey from London. I had to use a unisex toilet and wash myself in the sink before meeting up with my friends.||Room was a little basic. Tea in the room but nothing to drink out of. Not even a glass to put tap water in.||Staff were friendly enough.||I did have the opportunity to make use of my friend’s company rate at The Grace Hotel, which would have only been another £60, which in hindsight I should have used.||Not an awful hotel but I would probably stay somewhere a little nicer next time, even if it means spending a little more.

Great location, but that is all. At $350+ per night, this fell short in many ways. This place is old and has seen better days. You can see this this in every from the noisy lifts to the individual water heater that clunks into action during a shower. And the shower, well you might as well have a shower while having a number 2, since the toilet is mostly located under the shower, and slightly seperated by a shower curtain. The water temperature is almost impossible to regulate. Either really hot or really cold. Carpets are old, paintwork is falling apart. Corridors are narrow and the place is like a rabbit warren. Would not want to be here if a fire broke out. Noise heard from multiple locations including outside. Was quite happy to leave

Hotel located in a good and convenience place, near with supermarket BIG W and train station. Staff are nice. My room picture being falling down, I told the staff and promptly follow up. Room size OK not too small but not big. The shower area feel bit small and difficult turn. Overall it a good experience in this hotel.

Yelp
It was pretty bad. Not clean. The rooms are a dump. They have clean sheets and the bathroom was ok. So I felt fine sleeping there one night. But I would not rebook. I would not put my bags on the floor. If you're very young, very broke, and want to be near everything, this is probably the place for you. The walls and windows are so thin, you can hear every little thing. And if you happen to be booked by any rooms that are getting work done, they start the drills and power tools at 8am sharp. But don't worry, the noise will stop just in time for you to nod off 30 min before check out.

Yelp
Sydney is a big place, and I am only referring to the CBD here, which means that where you end up staying there is a part of the city that you won't get to see (and I do enjoy simply wandering around the neighbourhood). This was one of the first hotels I stayed in on my recent trips to Sydney, and while it was okay, it was not fantastic. The rooms were small (but that's not necessarily a problem if you are staying by yourself, and anyway you generally don't stay in your hotel room on a trip, though I end up doing so to do my writing in the morning). It was also advertised as the highest residential tower in the southern hemisphere - though that claim to fame is way out of date. Oh, there are no breakfast facilities, but at least there is a garden on the room.

Yelp
I booked the room for us to have a quick weekend away. By accident I had booked a twin room (I'm not very good at reading things properly according to my boyfriend haha). I went back to reception and the guy on the desk said the only room available is a suite - so he gave us that for only an extra $30 per night when it should have been an extra $100 per night. The room was clean and spacious and had a king size bed - and I actually had the best night sleep in it (even better than my own bed) but that's probably because I didn't have my cat waking me up to play at 3am... The location is amazing and for the price it's definitely worth it! Also the rooftop pool is epic!

Yelp
My cousin made the accommodations for us here. If you can, please avoid staying here! The room is filled with dust on the tabletop, bed side table and even the headboard. I was sneezing all day and waking up with a scratchy throat. The bed and bathroom are decent but the dust everywhere was not ok. When opening the curtains you can see the dust flying everywhere. Disgusting.

Yelp
A Storm in a Teacup - Not. For my second night in Sydney I was welcomed at the Park Regis. Now how they fit all those rooms up in the floors you'd never guess from the compact reception. I had a lot of bags I was moving interstate so having to take them up the stairs through the narrow corridor into the lift was a bit jerky at first. But then when I got to the room it got better. Big rooms fitted out with great sheets and movies on the T.V for no extra cost. I ate the chocolates that were on my pillow. I remember having an issue with the water pressure in the shower but I think that might have just been Sydney restrictions at the time, I'm not entirely sure. But at night, you hear the buzz of the city even in the early hours of the morning, garbage trucks and just general electricity so it's not for those seeking peace and solitude. But it did feel 4 star up in the room and for a discount night stay I was happy.
