I'm surprised to find myself writing the first review of Park View Guest House, a charming bed and breakfast overlooking Audubon Park.
I stayed in Room 19, which is probably the best room for a single or double occupancy. Located on the third floor in the front of the house, Room 19 includes a huge private balcony overlooking the streetcars on St. Charles, Audubon Park, and the lovely live oak trees. Two sets of original French doors open onto the balcony. The decor was refined, with a clean white bed and European details like a sitting area and antique wardrobe. The bathroom is clean and has a large clawfoot bathtub. Being near Tulane/Loyola and the Garden District, Park View Guest House truly feels like a New Orleans home.
The staff was friendly and generous with information about local sights and events. They have complimentary freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, popcorn, and wine all day and set out a brandy decanter every evening for a night cap. The breakfast is good and includes hot waffles, fresh fruit, biscuits and gravy, the typical baked goods and cereals, as well as coffee and tea. Again, the sense that you're in a home and not a hotel is a feature here.
Of all the sights and experiences in my first trip to the Big Easy, I can say that staying at the Guest House was the most memorable. The hospitality is what makes me want to return there.
