The 8 Best Hostels in London (Updated 2025)

"Housed in a grand Georgian Regency-style estate in Mile End Old Town, this boutique hostel looks amazing from the outside and has pleasant common spaces inside. It's a bit farther from the city center but quiet, clean, and well maintained; there's a kitchenette, free tea and coffee usually available, and you can pay 3 GBP for a continental breakfast. The staff are knowledgeable and provide great London sightseeing tips." - Matthew Kepnes

This is a quality hostel. It's quiet, it's well priced, it's close to the tube station, it's perfectly situated for a weekend visit to London. Plus, the staff are wonderful. I am a country lass, so finding anything in a city, let alone the capital city, that I like and can tolerate for any length of time is very rare.

Stayed for one night with a family member. Good points: the receptionist was super friendly and helpful, it was nice to have a kitchen available, and the room was a good size. Having said that, overall our stay was a bit disappointing given the glowing reviews, and nothing like "top" hostels I've stayed at in other countries. The general feeling was of a hostel that won an award a few years ago and has not kept up with basic upkeep since. Our room had sagging beds and shared, bathrooms on a different floor (which isn't necessarily a problem, but the hostel is very high-priced for somewhere with this kind of issue). Bathrooms were in need of some deep cleaning/redecoration/repairs. Carpets were worn. Overall, it was okay but this property could really do with a renovation.

I stayed here last week for a conference, and my experience was disappointing. The blonde/bleached-haired Spanish staff member at the front desk was rude and sarcastic when I asked a simple, sincere question about where to fill my water bottle. Not everyone comes from countries where tap water is drinkable, and there was no need for attitude. He assumed I didn’t speak Spanish and made a sarcastic comment in Spanish, but I understood him and called him out on it. Mocking guests is unprofessional and unacceptable behavior for front desk staff. On top of that, the carpeted floors combined with the humidity made the place feel musty and could easily trigger allergies. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hostel.

It is an amazing value for money. Staff is amazing and extremely helpful. Provided it’s bunk beds but they well kept comfortable and clean. Toilets are kept clean. Overall well satisfied.

Staff aggressively removed my pot from the stove, claiming it was burning even though there was no smoke and I was standing right there. When asked to communicate, they yelled aggressively (the staff went ballistic - I thought she was having a mental fit as she came across as very disturbed). She proceeded, saying I’d “never stay there again,” despite me having no intention or interest of staying longer than the 3 nights booked. The woman was the most delusional person I’ve ever met, worse in a professional setting. Overall antisocial environment- staff ganging up on customers, taking over the kitchen area, and shouting/talking so loudly and aggressively. Their behaviour was disrespectful, stalking, controlling, and unprofessional - Just no personal manners or self-esteem. The manager gave unsolicited advice and, when told their behaviour was inappropriate, he said he “owns the place” and can do as he pleases — showing zero professionalism or respect for guest boundaries. The staff’s aggressive and unprofessional behaviour clearly reflected the management culture. The environment felt hostile and chaotic. I checked out early and couldn’t be happier.

I was in London to go to a gig in Stratford, the team was very friendly, the room spacious, and luckily for me only one other person staying in the dorm! Location was perfect for me - it is a busy part of London so there is road noise but they provide ear plugs if you need them (I didn't!). Would stay there again if the need arises. Thank you!

Great: got a really nice dorm room with just one other person, quiet restful night, friendly reception, possible to get a charger/converter, lock, paid towel, very convenient location for the metro, ok clean. Some of the bathrooms smelled a bit moldy but there are more than enough to avoid those, and it's a hostel after all. Didn't use the kitchen. Here is my number one problem why I cannot give full stars: I woke up with a couple of spots in one place that looked like bedbug bites. I did not find any other traces of these, so maybe it was something else, but I am still doubtful and the lockers are on the floor right under the bed, so even though I tried to check my luggage I still worry about that sometimes.

Inexpensive, friendly, very well connected little hostel, a real gem in London. I go to London for work fairly frequently and I think I found my little base here. I am not particularly fussy until I can sleep and it's not too dirty or noisy and I found this place really good for my needs. The most important asset is their staff: lovely, friendly, goodwilling volunteer folks from all around the globe who do their jobs, let it be cleaning or orientation, really well. Adapters and locks can be borrowed free of charge, there are plenty of bathrooms and toilets (even a surprising amount of them), there is a small but sufficient kitchen and a small loungre room. Nothing luxurious but it does the trick perfectly. Be nice and pay by cash! :) Will be back.

Yelp
This is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. Rooms are spacious, with ensuite bathrooms and extra bathrooms outside of rooms if ensuite is occupied. Most of the staff is incredibly friendly and gracious. Have stayed in many B&B's and hostels throughout Europe, and Park Villa has gone the extra mile to add some type of padding on top of the standard/typical mattress and it makes all the difference. Super easy access to Mile End tube station and many buses are right up the street with others a short walk away. Being from a small town in the states, I was super nervous about getting from Gatwick to Victoria Station and transferring to the underground, but the directions posted on Park Villa's website were flawless. If you need to stay in London on a budget, but want a quiet, more adult experience (many lot my roommates were professors or people in town for a conference at the neighboring university , this is your place.
