We were expecting a bit more from the room. It’s essentially a spacious studio apartment with an open-plan kitchen and living area (with a wall-mounted flatscreen TV), a walk-in wardrobe separated from the bedroom by a mirrored wall, and a large bathroom. While roomy, the layout feels a little odd- for example, all the light switches are tucked into one corner, and the bathroom appears to have been awkwardly redesigned, with the toilet placed beside the sink where a second basin might have been.
The furniture arrangement also seems poorly thought out, with one odd dining chair, one office chair, and two chaise lounges facing each other instead of the TV. Empty bookshelves add to the slightly stark atmosphere. On the positive side, the kitchen and bathroom are well stocked with amenities, e.g. tea bags, coffee capsules, sugar, cutlery, utensils, bottled water, toiletries, towels, and a hairdryer- but the space still doesn’t feel particularly warm or inviting. Small touches could help, such as clear instructions for the TV (not very user-friendly) and a welcome guide with local recommendations; for instance, Feeka Café nearby is worth a mention and the pizza at Pizza Mansion next door is delicious, Hogan bakery (around the corner) offer some light baked goods and cakes, perhaps a city map of nearby walkable shopping locations or attractions would be very helpful.
The bed, however, is very comfortable, the room is tidy and clean, as a place to work it’s great as there’s plenty of desk space at the working corner with ample power points, good strong wifi and customer service is friendly, efficient, and professional. Unfortunately, breakfast was also rather sub-par, which added to the overall sense of disappointment.
Given the Parkroyal name and our past stays in other suites, we were left expecting more.
