"Saunter the Cobblestone Streets and Lush Gardens Parque Forestal is Santiago's lung and central park. Created for the first centennial celebration in 1910, the park has become an iconic area of the city with elegant residential apartment buildings along the perimeter. One of the most enjoyable ways to spend an afternoon is walking under the century-old trees and then strolling the cobblestoned streets of the adjoining Lastarria area. Parisian-style facades, cafés full of intellectual life, boutiques, museums like Bellas Artes (a copy of the Petit Palais in Paris), restaurants, and bars all bring this neighborhood to life."

Yelp
A long park that extends through much of the city of Santiago, it is built on land that was reclaimed from the Río Mapocho. The dirt path runs under the beautiful canopy of trees and is a very long and nearly unbroken stretch through the city. Benches, grass and playgrounds. Jogging trails and a footpath are available. Mercado Central, La Vega, and the Bellas Artes museum are in or adjacent to the park. Expect to see families and couples sitting or picnicking in the grass. I also noticed a few folks that I might consider homeless.

Yelp
This was a huge and beautiful park in the Bellas Artes area in Santiago. I walked through the park a few times since it was right around the corner from where I was staying. The park waa always clean and well maintained. There is lots of greenery and seats to relax and people watch. I saw lots of couples hanging out and making out throughout the park. This is definitely a cool place to rest your feet awhile after a day of sightseeing and walking up and down the city.

Yelp
Forestal park for me is like a centerpiece in downtown Santiago. It is a great meet up spot for families, yoga groups, fan clubs and of course the occasional protest. There is so much going on in Forestal park. There are several climbing structure for children to enjoy, and even a dog adoption spot where they house street dogs waiting to find a home. It has bike paths and lots of trees and grassy areas. I find it the ideal spot for an evening run. There are two cafes that are located in the park as well as the Bellas Artes museum. Funny enough it it located between two super busy streets. This oasis of peace brings a little bit of calm to Santiago. On Sundays there is an open fair that starts at the Bellas Artes museum. It literally looks like a giant garage sale and always makes for a fun weekend outing.

Yelp
Whether you are walking your dog, training for the Santiago Marathon or would like to enjoy the sun with a picnic and friends, this is the place to do it. Not only does Parque Forestal have the normal fixings of every normal park, it's also the gathering place for flea markets, festivals and even free concerts and plays! Most of the exciting events happen on Sundays-including the weekly flea market. It's a perfect place to pass a lazy Sunday, strolling through the park to see the antiques, clothing and interesting items the local artisans have to offer. On a sunny day, you will find food vendors selling things like cotton candy, popcorn and the typical mote con huesillo. If you are lucky, you will see one of the traditional chilean "organilleros" (organ grinders), who promenades through the park playing the organ, with a colorful parrot on top of a bubble-blowing cart, while he sells toys to children playing in the park and on the trampoline (the trampoline is located by the cafe Castillo Forestal). This lengthy park extends from Plaza Italia to the Central Market and is filled with activities and entertainment for all ages.

Yelp
Serene spot to walk or jog in center of city. Lots of couples and families picnicking and just lounging. Super clean and well maintained compared to many US parks.
