16 Best Beach Towns to Visit in Portugal, According to Locals

"A working fishing port celebrated for its oysters and vibrant seafood scene, anchored by a famous market where visitors can watch the daily catch arrive and shop for fresh ingredients. The nearby Arrábida coastline features gin-clear waters ideal for boat rentals and swims—sometimes with sightings of dolphins—and stately historic houses converted into luxury hotels provide a refined base for exploring both seafood culture and coastal nature." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Good place for walking with geat views over the coast and inland. Most of the paths we have taken so far are reasonable but some of the mapped routes online need some updating. there are wild boar around but we didn't " bump" into any. uber is cheap here so you can either do circular routes or get an user back if you start finish on a road as we did.

Parque Natural de Arrabida, Arrábida Natural Park a protected area in Portugal. Founded in 1976, the park occupies covering the southernmost margin of the Setúbal Peninsula. One of the park's unique features is its carbonate geology mountain range, Serra da Arrábida: 501 metres. Three of the park's beaches-Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha-are popular among the inhabitants of Lisbon and Setúbal. Overlooking the three beaches is the Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida, a former monastery established in the 16th century, managed today by the Fundação Oriente.

One of Portugal's most beautiful natural reserves - cliffs, rocks, white sand, turquoise water. What else do you need? Make sure you go for a hike along the coast.

Delightful, relaxing park with different events going on (I noticed three). A concert, a talk and interview attended by a significant intellectual type crowd and a book show. I might have pics, if I do then I shall post them. Has lovely views of the river Duoro! A Porto gem!

Excellent place to spend a day if you live near Lisbon. Be sure to bring a car. I went with public transport and it was a nightmare.

Such a beautiful place with many vistas to take in. Plenty of stops along the road to take in the serene and gorgeous scenery. I was only driving through to have lunch in Setúbal, but I will definitely be back to take in all these beautiful views and stunning beaches. Definitely worth a stop by if you are in the area

The sea is crystal clear, and the underwater world is magnificent; snorkeling and watching colorful fish is a real treat. The fine white sand along the coast and the silhouette of the forest in the background make for perfect photos.

Yelp
I came here based on a thinly written blog post I found online that had been posted years ago. That is probably my first mistake. :) I'll start with the "Know Before You Go" (somewhat negatives): - There is no Welcome Center - There is no English-language information available - There are only a few pull-off places and many have DEEP pot holes, watch out - In the summer, the loop road becomes, partially, one-way (check out the map) - If you're going to Portinho da Arrabida, it is 1,5EUR to park far away and 3EUR to park closer To the positives: - Getting into the park is free - The park is gorgeous - The beaches are lovely - It's only about an hour from Lisbon and is the only unsettled land I saw while in Portugal If you want to see beautiful coastline, this is a great place to do it. There's also a convent there (I couldn't find any information about it), which is beautiful to photograph (from afar). I've included a map with details about the one-way road situation. Hopefully this will save you some heartburn--and a problem with the law. :) I ended up getting help from a nice man I saw hiking. He directed me to Sesimbra, which was about 35 minutes away. It was a good suggestion. I wrote a review for the beach there which you should check out (Praia da Califórnia: http://www.yelp.com/biz/praia-da-calif%C3%B3rnia-sesimbra?hrid=3Hg0ianYc40NsXBqPdQ3kQ). I did see what appeared to be parking areas for hikes/trails. I was unable to find any sure information about them though. Because I was traveling solo, I opted for caution and didn't give it ago.
