The Tower of the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is visible from the Malecon, but the church itself is not. It caught my attention because of the lacy looking Crown on top. Turns out the ‘crown’ is symbolic of a tiara worn by a mistress of Emperor Maximilian. There were two Emperors named Maximilian; one was the Holy Roman emperor, and the other was a former Emperor of Mexico. The church was constructed between 1930 and 1940. The Tower was more impressive than the church, but the tour group was allowed in, in case people wanted to stop and pray, as many were doing.

Google
A beautiful church dedicated to our Lady of Guadalupe. There’s mass daily 3 times. At 7.30 am 12 noon and 7 pm all in Spanish but easy to follow for those non Spanish speakers. It’s quiet so good to pray and reflect as well

Google
This church is pretty underwhelming considering how it is made out to be. It’s touristy in the most ordinary way. Church needs a good refurbishment. Exterior is good. Seen much better in other places across the world.

Google
Mass was good, and there were confessions. There was a special event (I think they were celebrating a meeting from La Pastoral de la Salud) when we were there (the video is from the procession, that’s not what you will find daily!). We liked it, easy access, and good priests.

This church was listed as one of the sights to see in PV. While I'm not a religious person, I don't mind seeing churches for their architectural value. Its located one street above the Tepic Puerto Vallarta, the main road that runs along the ocean, exactly where the Malecon Boardwalk starts at the north end. When you see the amphitheater and arches, turn around and you'll see a small park-like plaza across the street. Walk through it, and the church is at the other end. Its not hard to find as the building is taller than the rest. The red brick & stone church has no real front grounds, as only a sidewalk and a few steps separate it from the busy road, so its not the prettiest upon first glance. The top of the bell tower is uniquely finished with a wrought iron sculpture shaped into a crown that pays homage to an empress of Mexico. The doors were wide open, so I was able to snap a quick pic. There were a few worshipers sitting inside but no service was going on. The pews sit on marble floors, with high ceilings and columns decorated with simple ornate trim. Further in is an even taller rotunda ceiling draped by a purple curtain, with a grand centerpiece & painting. Mass in English is done on Saturdays, with Spanglish mix on Sundays.

Me and the wife went to the early morning mass and saw the beauty of this church and experienced mass with the locals.

Google
How can someone rate the House of God? I attended mass at noon and it was very good! It’s a beautiful church with an adoration chapel.

Yelp
Lovely church in Puerto Vallarta. Visited with family last week when we were in town. The locals revere this church, and it is very well kept. I felt peace inside, and spent a while there, quietly praying and meditating. Will be back!

Yelp
This is a beautiful Catholic Church located near the center square in Puerto Vallarta. It is open daily for visits with Mass Services on Saturday and Sunday.

Yelp
This is a beautiful church that's open to the public. It's situated right in the Malecon area in town. Minutes from the water. You can't miss it as it's quite tall and on top is a beautiful huge crown with a cross. You could see from the top of the hill or along the beachfront walkways. There's some shops outside the entrance for gifts and souvenir. You walk up a couple set of stairs and enter through big doors that leads you inside. The painted artwork hanging from the wall gives an idea how religious the community and people are. The beautiful stain glass window shine through. Every corner you turn, there's something that will catch your eyes. The rows of seat that lead you to the alter with its massive display and backdrop. A place of worship so be respectful when walking through. There's people praying as well as tourist checking out this place. It's a nice little wandering around if you're in the area. Religious or not, it's beautiful and breathtaking.

Yelp
Beautiful historic church in puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico. Dedicated to the mother Mary of Guadalupe! We recently visited this church on a port from the princess discovery cruise. If you like culture and history, highly recommend to visit the city and see this beautiful church.

Yelp
Beautiful historic cathedral. We stopped in so my friend could purchase a rosary for her son. The priest was so kind...he blessed my friend's son, who is struggling in life and the rosary. I don't know anything about Catholicism, but my friend was so touched, she cried.

Yelp
An absolutely gorgeous church inside and out. We were lucky enough to have dinner on the terrace at La Cappella one evening over looking the church and it's stunningly beautiful. An added bonus for me is that my good friend from Minneapolis was married here and his 3 children baptized here. A must stop as you stroll through old town.

Yelp
A must visit and well known church in Puerto Vallarta. It is located in the center of Puerto Vallarta downtown/Malacon board walk. The name translate to Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is a Catholic church. The Church was built between 1930 and 1940 and was constructed on the original foundations of a chapel initially dedicated to Lady Guadalupe in 1901. It is a beautiful church. Nice to go in and peacefully sit around. This is one of the must visit tourist attraction site.

Yelp
I'm not at all religious, I will admit that, but it was mentioned at a few "things to do" lists I looked up before coming through. Its appearance is nothing showy or "out of this world" - ish, but it is a beautiful landmark - even in its simplicity. There's something really special about it, it's almost hard to explain. Like most churches, it has its own personality. There's certainly something about it that made me feel some inner peace immediately the moment I walked in - albeit short lived. But I appreciated it nonetheless. I didn't see any section of the church to light candles, but they do have those battery operated ones that switch on once you drop a coin donation. I lit up a few of those as well as dropped a few more in most of the donation boxes I saw strategically placed all over. It's the least I can do to show a possible higher being how grateful I am in being given the opportunity to visit. Plus every little bit helps in maintaining one of Puerto Vallarta's important historical structures. Souvenirs available right outside. The visit was an enlightening one. I really liked it. I would return at first opportunity.

Yelp
Beautiful church, we stopped here as part of our tour of Puerto Vallarta and I was impressed with the size and architecture of the exterior of the church. Inside, there are many religious displays which are maintained very nicely and the overall feel of the sanctuary is magnificent.

Yelp
GLARING HOLY EXPERIENCE Following our serene lunch by the beach, we walked a short distance on PV's malacon while FEDERAL military offloaded three truck loads of fully armed troops. Three short block walk to the church. Water closet with attendent for a small donation. Cobble stone streets & narrow sidewalks. No places to sit. EXCEPT, return to the park with the governor's statue. Majority flocked to the souvenir stores.

Yelp
I find inner peace in churches. It's a great way for me to inner reflect in my current life which is why I enjoy visiting churches during all my travels. Note however, due to covid, the holy water is not available. However, the church is open for prayer and because the church is celebrating the famous meeting of when our Lady of Guadalupe first met with Juan Diego back on December 12, 1531 which established Catholicism in Mexico, therefore; masses were offered throughout the day , each day, leading up to the 12th of December. English and Spanish are offered on weekends. During the celebration, we saw fireworks, and we even heard the bells chime all week long. It was an amazing experience and we truly enjoyed it. Right outside the church, I purchased rosaries that was blessed by the Father too. If you are traveling through Puerto Vallarta, Lady Guadalupe is not to be missed. The Church of Our Lady Guadalupe (La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe) was built around 1930s to 1940s. The Lady of Guadalupe (Virgin Mary) is a symbol of protector in Mexico and a symbol of faith and female empowerment. Feliz Navidad and may this Holiday season, bring you many joys, love, peace and good times with friends and family. Cheers!

Yelp
Gorgeous church. There was a wedding going on when we were there which made it extra special. The doors were open and we could see the bride and groom. I hope to be able to go back and visit the inside. The crown on top of the church is really unusual.

Yelp
This is a beautiful church near the Malecon. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit even if it's for a few minutes.

Yelp
" A Beautiful & Historic Church " We walked down and visited the Puerto Vallarta Malecon and at the end of it took a left turn and walked up a block to the beautiful and historic Senora de Guadalupe Church. We went inside and said a few prayers as we witnessed the beautiful interior of the church. This Historical Church is one of the best Architectural Historic Highlights of the Puerto Vallarta City. This is a must see when you visit the city.

Yelp
Beautiful church in the center of Puerto Vallarta. Attended the 7 pm mass, not a lot of people. Everyone is taking necessary precautions, they take your temp and give you sanitizer. Must also wear a mask. Definitely worth a visit, simply beautiful.

Yelp
Beautiful Church. Nice architecture. 10 am Sunday mass tends to be very popular. Climb the hill to the east to get a nice view down on the gold dome and the spire crown (very good photo spot).

Yelp
I'm not much a church fan, not necessarily for lack of religious belief, but because I find them boring. However, I am a fan of design and distinctive architecture and on those two points the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is worth seeing. As expected, it holds a most prominent spot in town, completed in 1917, is of old world design and in 1963 was topped with a crown said to be a replica of a crown worn by Carlota, mistress of the Emperor Maximilian who ruled Mexico in the 1860's subsequent to the War of French Intervention at the request of Napoleon III. The inside of the church is rather ornate but nothing I'd consider to be awesome, certainly not in comparison to those of Europe.

Yelp
This is a beautiful church. The top, with a crown, is a local landmark (check out the churches website for information and the story of how they had to replace it. http://parroquiadeguadalupevallarta.com) The church is in a nice area just a few blocks up from the Malicon. You can see it easily as it is located at the end of the street. It is the end point for a lot of the local parades, I was here for the day of the dead and the parade ended here with costumes and lots of music. Inside is nice and a working church so be respectful. Usually i just enjoy it from the outside!

Yelp
The last time we were here was 2011 for our honeymoon. This time the kids are here to enjoy their summer vacation but we wanted them to attend a mass to appreciate the culture. The church has no air conditioning but a bunch of fans blowing in all directions. Great place to check out for the beauty of the church.

Yelp
Located in central downtown Puerto Vallarta, the Church of Guadalupe was finished in 1952. It's original crown was constructed in 1963 and is said to be a replica of Emperor Maximilian's (1860's) mistress's crown. The crown and spire were severely damaged by a 7.5 Richter scale earthquake centered some 400 miles away in Mexico City. Reconstructed it is reminiscent of a Baroque Austrian Temples. Having several architectural styles, the main building is Neoclassical while the lateral towers are Renaissance. The interior is white plaster and marble with gold accents and stained glass windows. Although the church itself is beautiful what strikes me more deeply is the devotion and respect that the people of Puerto Vallarta have for their church. This can be seen at any church service and is well worth the experience. The Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe (Dec. 1-12) is an important celebration for devotes who come to pay their respects. Juan Diego's vision of the Virgin of Guadalupe inspired the creation of the church and you will be inspired by the people of the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Yelp
Beautiful church! We were fortunate to have visited on Dec 12th, and saw the Festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This was beautiful and very interesting. So glad we timed our trip accordingly.

Yelp
An Amazing Church See this when a wedding is going on or a funeral. The night view of this church is magical. This part of PV is rich with history.

Yelp
Such beauty! The architecture, vibe and people. Experincing it in person is a must if in Puerto Vallarta.

Yelp
Whenever we cruise to Mexico we always stop here. This is a gorgeous church with impressive architecture and friendly people that attend. We were here on a Sunday and got the opportunity to see two babies be baptized and watched the bell ringer ring the huge bells in the dome. The church altar was decorated for the holiday season and it looked so festive. There are wooden pews on marble floors and portable folding chairs to sit st on the sides. Portable fans saying not to touch are set up inside for when the temperature gets hot. There are a few tables set up outside where you can purchase rosaries and other religious items. I highly recommend a visit here; the crown on the church top alone is amazing.

B P.

Yelp
Beautiful building. A must visit when you come to Vallarta, Christian or not. It's close to all that is Cento anyhow. Lot's happening in this location. I tend to stand on the stairs and peer inside anyhow.

Yelp
I love visiting old churches whenever I go to different countries. This church was exceptional. The gorgeous architecture, delicate interior, and acoustics were just gorgeous. I visited in the day and evening. Both times were nice. When I went in the day there was a service going on, so I sat and listened for a while (even tho I didn't understand the Spanish!) If you enjoy old churches, you won't want to miss this one.

Yelp
I love old churches and organ music. Walked in and a midday mass started. Loved it!!!!

Yelp
This is a must see if you're in Puerto Vallarta. It's close to the beach and short walk from downtown area. This church is beautifully taken care of and a nice little piece of history. You must be aware that it is a holy church so you cannot walk in if you are exposing your shoulders or wearing shorts. When there are enough tourists around they will ring the large bell on top of the church. There are donation jars everywhere of you want to put your money in.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
This church is on a hill just steps from the Malecon. This is an active church so I was respectful of those praying and took minimal pictures. The grounds are constantly maintained and updated. Those at the site were greeting people warmly. I highly recommend you visit while in Puerto Vallarta. Beautiful
google avatar

DD C.

Yelp
When we were there, regular service was just going on. So, we can't stay too long to really appreciate the details of the architecture. But no doubt it's a beautiful and magnificent church. as pictures presented
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing Church and I suggest making a trip here. It's not huge or extravagant but its very beautiful and worth stopping in. I really loved the architecture and art and especially how preserved and well kept it was. The older man selling candy across the street is a staple according to our tour guide and he was really nice and friendly when we talked with him. Very cool to see such an old Church in person and only a block away from the Boardwalk.

Yelp
We try to visit a new Church when we visit a city. This one was absolutely stunning. I found the altar beautiful and loved the mural and statues in the back depicting Our Lady of Guadalupe. If you're Catholic, they have masses at 7:30 AM, noon, and then one in the evening (I think at 7 PM). I would suggest the early one (if you can get up) because the place can get rather hot in the summer without air conditioning.
