On the Grid : Parsons Gardens

"This public garden sits on the corner across from the lookout point, Marshall Park (which is where most people you ask will think you're referring to, if you bring it up). Read on the lawn, or sit on the benches with a date. Just don't be surprised if you have to keep walking once you get there. This flower-filled garden is also the setting for the occasional small wedding ceremony." - MINT

A very quiet, peaceful garden tucked away near the intersection in the Queen Anne area. I heard birds chirping melodically in the background, and the trees offered just enough shade to make it feel like you’re being gently hugged by nature. It seems to be a regular spot for local residents to walk their dogs, adding to its calm, neighborhood charm. I’d definitely come back here for a cute little picnic.

Great place to see the sunset over the mountains. Easy public access and lots of locals and tourists enjoying the great city views.

Google
Wonderful place a wedding ceremony!! Booking was easy through the Seattle Parks website and park was well maintained. Only thing was the portable toilet that was supposed to be there for our guests had a lock on it and the park worker had no keys and no one to contact. Thankful this was a quick ceremony so it was alright.

Parsons Garden is a nice, hidden gem next to Kinnear Park, perfect for taking a break from the sun. The garden has a nice variety of plants and feels extremely peaceful and calming, making it a great escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

The vegetation @ this park is phenomenal! A wide variety of flowers 🌷🌱🌹🌼 The stunning trees, 🌳 with their beautiful branches & blossoms 🌺 create a canopy with amazing light streaming through 🌤☀ There is also a bluff looking over Puget Sound, with the islands & mountains in the distance 🏞 The whole area is cheerful & tranquil with all that my beloved PNW has to offer 💙💚

Google
It's literally just a small, beautiful garden area. Any amenities you want you have to haul in (lawn chairs, portable table, etc.)

Google
A hidden gem in the Queen Anne neighborhood. A small, quaint park that will catch your eye in spring. Great place for a mini photo shoot or just a quiet break away from Kerry park when you want to slow things down a bit.

Google
The most beautiful little secret garden. If you’re looking for a quiet spot to have a picnic or get married, look no further.

Yelp
I proposed here! Super beautiful love the ambiance of flowers and the bench is beautiful.

Yelp
Small and intimate park with flowers where you can be quite and read a book. It is so small that there will be someone else with you. Come and take a quick "walk" around while you go along all the other neighborhood parks you will be visiting. Just go through the door. I'm guessing not too many people know about the place. A cross the street next corner you'll be on a good viewpoint of the city. On summer it would probably be a bit dry. Just sit on the bench and take a look and breath having a nice time :)

Yelp
Best place for photos! Love this garden and place around it!! Be sure to come on a weekday. Weekends get crazy pack!! Also bring something to lay on and have a glass of wine!

Yelp
The next time you're at Kerry Park, take your pictures and then go for a quick stroll down Highland Drive. At the end of the road, you'll come across Parsons Garden and the viewpoint across the street. More of a small lawn than an actual park, Parsons Garden is the perfect neighborhood nook for a mid-run break, picnic and so on. So many people get stuck at Kerry Park that they miss this great little spot and it's view of Interbay/Magnolia. :)

Yelp
A respite amongst the city's bustle, this quiet little garden is one of my favourite spots in Seattle. The park was given to our fair city in 1956 by the children of Reginald H. Parsons. It was formerly their family garden beforehand. Allow me to take a moment to thank the Parsons for such a lovely present! The garden is tucked away on the south slope of Queen Anne surrounded by trees and hedges. Drive by too quickly and you just might miss it. Maybe that's a good thing because every time I've visited, there's only been a handful of people here. Fellow Seattleites reading or soaking up sunshine. It's an easy walk around the park, it's barely a half acre. There's a bench that I'm fond of there, it's a great place to sit and read.

Yelp
A little secret garden that hardly anyone ever enters. In the spring the city plants flowers at the entrance and occasionally a wedding will be going on.

Yelp
I've been to Kerry Park countless times, but I never knew about Parsons Garden. I've even been over to the little viewpoint down the street from Kerry Park, and never noticed this tucked away gem. It's got a bright green lawn in the center, surrounded by little pathways with flowers, trees, and places to sit. I was meant to photograph an engagement shoot at Kerry Park over the weekend, but it started raining as soon as we started. Fortunately, I remembered that someone had told me about Parsons Garden. I figured we could take shelter there at least, and wait for the rain to stop. I was happy to find that the overhanging trees sheltered us from the light rain, and the entire place was just begging to be photographed. We spent some time there, even after the rain had passed. It was just too cute and secluded to move on right away. The couple I was working with wanted more pictures there, even though they had intended to get a cityscape background in most of their photos. What a lovely place!

Yelp
Probably my favorite green space in the city, right after the Ballard P Patch, of course.. Looks like a park, feels like a garden.. and whenever I've been here, I've been the only one in attendance! Don't mess around with Kerry Park, people.. who cares out the Seattle Skyline when you can get the 'Secret Garden' all to yourself! All sorts of lovely plants and flowers, and trees.. and shade! Come here with a picnic and wow your SO. Not so sure about haulin' the kids to this spot. There's not a jungle gym to be found.. just lots of pretty, peace, and quiet. Just all around lovely..

Yelp
I absolutely love walking through this garden when I'm in the area. The first time I spotted it I thought to myself, "People should get married here!" Then on another trip walking past I noticed that people really DO get married at this park. It's so adorable, so private and so lush, it really makes for a special spot to get hitched. I've popped in to sit on park benches and watch the birds and sometimes I've just taken a quick stroll through. It's such a peaceful and adorable spot that anyone in the area ought to spare 5 mins to pop in an check it out. Definitely a little hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city living.

Yelp
I randomly happened upon this place on my birthday about four years ago. This place is really small but pleasant to take a leisurely stroll through if you're in the area. It offers quite a few plant varieties and depending on the time of year some pretty flowers as well. It's generally pretty empty in here save for maybe a couple other people. It makes it nice, to kind of step away from all of the action of Seattle. Plus if you cross the street you can see a lovely view of the sound and Magnolia.

Yelp
This is one of my favorites! It's sweet, petite and magical! It's one of those places your sure to have a magical moment in time. If I were a girl, I'd want my wedding there.

Yelp
I got lost in Queen Anne and happened to find this secret garden. I was intending to go to Kerry Park with my parents. The only problem was there was no parking nearby, so I ended up driving on Olympic for a number of blocks before deciding to turn back around. After finding a spot, I was trekking to look for Kerry and instead found Marshall Park. Across the way from the viewpoint is a small little garden called Parsons Gardens. It is quite smallish. Almost like entering the garden of a home on Queen Anne, except this is open to the public. There are a few places to sit or lie down and relax for a bit here. Nothing particularly exotic, but the flora is nicely maintained. If you happen to head up to Queen Anne to visit the viewpoints there, make a stop at Parsons Gardens for a bit. It is nice little place to hide away for a little while or to take a breather from all that sightseeing.

Yelp
wow I would not have thought of reviewing this until I was reading others' reviews to better understand yelp! reviewing. This is almost a secret in Seattle. This small quiet pretty garden with views and peace. Go quickly. Go quietly. Enjoy. Write. Draw. Dream.

Yelp
Didn't know Parsons Gardens existed until I wandered by it while on a stroll when I worked on Queen Anne. It's incredibly peaceful and offers a respite from the bustling city and harried lives we all seem to lead. Oh, and it's free. So you know, no excuses.

Yelp
This really is a secret garden.....it's gated and it doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you enter through one of the gates, it is a tranquil little garden. Dogs are allowed in this park as well and there is a nice little grassy area that they can use. The garden felt like I was in someone's private backyard. It was so quiet and it really did feel like I was the only one there even though there were some other people there as well. Wish there was a larger sign to distinguish this little garden so not so many people would miss it! Pros: - Beautiful little garden....felt like I was in someone's backyard! - Secluded and tranquil, would definitely be a great place to bring your significant other! Cons: - Wish there were more flowers in the garden - Almost walked right past this little gem! They need a better sign Why I gave it a 4..... It's a cute, quiet little garden that is very easy to overlook...I think they need to post the sign more at eye level so people know that this is a great spot to visit other than Kerry Park down the street! Wish there were more flowers, but maybe it's just the wrong season too....

Yelp
This is a small garden just off from the really popular tourist spot of Kerry Park. Though it doesn't have the same view of Seattle as Kerry Park, it's a nice retreat from the crowds and has a great view of the Puget Sound.

Yelp
A cute tiny garden. Worth a visit of you are at Kerry Park just up the street. It's a small loop trail with a bit of lawn, interesting trees and flowering plants. Once inside, there is no view. It is the opposite of Kerry Park, but sometimes that's what you want. Nice bench or spot of lawn in a shady spot. Diagonally across the street is another nice location that provides a great view.

Yelp
A hidden gem on the south slope of Queen Anne hill. It is fenced off, but don't let that keep you from entering. Once inside it feels like it could be your own quaint backyard, meticulously manicured of course. A great place for a picnic.

Yelp
Complaining that there are too many weddings @ Parson's Garden is like complaining about the damp in Elliott Bay. What could be more conducive to matrimony than a beautifully manicured outdoor space? Parson's Garden is a dream-world: a breathing oasis in the midst of a bustling city. It affords a certain measure of privacy by virtue of its surrounding hedges and its external anonymity. If you didn't know it was there you'd pass on by, figuring it was an adjunct to one of the beautiful mansions that stud that part of Queen Anne's SW crest. Those who swallow hard and pass through its gates are surprised and rewarded.

Yelp
Nice little park with good breezes and views. & Great neighborhood to stroll around in looking at zillion dollar houses.

Yelp
If you head due west of Kerry Park's touristy aura, you'll find a little park enclosed by chain link fencing on the right hand side just before the street curves off. This is parson's gardens. It is very beautiful, and surprisingly secluded. It never has a lock on the gate, though all parks in seattle close around 11pm. Take your favorite people here for a picnic, and they'll know for sure that you care enough to take them to such a beautiful place. Also, there's a lookout with a few benches across the street that shows off west seattle, elliott bay, and sunsets on clear days. Find this park if you haven't already.

Yelp
This is one of my all-time favorite spots on Queen Anne Hill. The small, fenced-in park (the site of many a wedding in the summer) is calm, peaceful and beautiful. It does feel like you are spending time in someone's meticulously landscaped backyard - in part because it's tucked into a residential block. It's a lovely location for taking photographs, enjoying a romantic picnic, or just taking a meditative walk along its short perimeter path. And when flowers are blooming it smells wonderful too!

Yelp
Perfect place to find a spot to sit and read a book. Awesome that this lot, surely worth a lot of money, remains what it is for everyone to enjoy.

Yelp
Have you ever read the book, "The Secret Garden"? No? Me either, but this is a small representation of what I imagine that secret garden to be. Much like the boy in the story, I imagine that he was just sashaying about (as boys do) in the neighborhood when a young girl suddenly invites him into her secret garden. I would think, that much like myself, he would be unsure if he should enter or not. When first approaching I was unsure if this was a public place, if I was allowed to enter. Poking in, just my head at first, I began to feel the overall warming welcome that is the garden. The walls of this secret garden in-wrap you, relaxing and protecting you from the outside world. The feel of abstention, like I was the first to enter here, is palatable; the garden has a purity to it. Once you are inside there is much to explore, if you take your time. No need to rush. Being able to release is an important part of relaxing. I did notice that this garden was in need of some attentive mulching, but maybe they do that just when they want to seed.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in Queen Anne, hands down. I love picking up some picnic stuff at the Metropolitian Market and eating it over here. It's so small and intimate, I love it when I have the place to myself, but that rarely happens. It's not overrun with people, because most everyone goes to Kerry Park. It's the perfect slice of heaven in warm weather.

Yelp
A hidden gem caddy-corner from Marshall Park. A gorgeous walk in any season, this is a great spot to visit when it's sweltering, and enjoy a quiet picnic in the shade amongst a zillion plants and flowers. You almost get the feeling you're walking through a secret garden! Stay a while and enjoy the gazebo and lush lawn, and when you're done go take a nap on the grassy banks of Marshall Park. A must-visit for any garden lover and most Grandmas.

Yelp
This is a cute little garden but very very small. I walk by doggie in the area and I enjoy more just walking on the streets nearby. It's more a hidden secret garden than a real park ;-)

Nina C.

Yelp
I put off reviewing this spot for a long time because I wanted it all to myself. The first time I came here, it was so peaceful, I questioned if it was a public park- I thought maybe it belonged to the HOA of the block or something. This spot is beautiful but small. It's great for curling up on the bench and taking a quick break from the madness of Kerry Park down the street. It's tiny so there isn't a ton to see but it's serene and kinda romantic.

Linda D.

Yelp
I discovered this exquisite hideaway in 1982 when visiting my brother who lived up the hill. I was particularly taken with the quiet beauty of lush lawn and the lovely lace-cap hydrangeas. When planning our wedding in 1986 I knew this was where our special day would be held. True to Seattle, there was a gentle mist that day in late May, but the magic of this lovely spot was all we had hoped for. We drove from the east to be married here and have been back many times. I hope Parsons Garden is treasured for years to come.
