I stayed at this hostel for nearly a week, and while the location is fantastic—right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, with easy access to two subway lines and plenty of great places to eat and explore—I regret not choosing a different place to stay.
First off, avoid paying extra for the “free breakfast” upgrade; it’s misleading. Despite the location’s appeal, the overall management and atmosphere left a lot to be desired. They advertise a rooftop bar, but during my stay, it was never open. Instead, you had to trek from the fifth floor to the ground floor for a drink. And when the rooftop does open, they start clearing people out around 11 PM, which felt unnecessarily early.
Even more unusual, the common areas close by 1 AM, something I’ve never experienced in my travels. The security staff, particularly one guard, came across as overly strict and on a power trip, though Jeff was a bit more reasonable.
The hostel also nickel-and-dimes guests for everything—charging €2.50 for each towel, for example, feels excessive. The pub crawl was another disappointment; the organizers seemed disengaged, and out of all the venues we visited, only the final club was worth it. Frankly, at €20, you’d be better off going straight to the last club and paying the cover yourself.
In summary, I’d recommend exploring other hostels in the area. From what I’ve heard, Kabul was once the place to be, but over time, it seems to have become more complacent and less guest-friendly.
