Welcoming, country store atmosphere. But, the food exceeded expectations. Solid favourites with little twists, making them unique, but delicious. Had the South Bound, Sorry Charlie and French onion soup. Brownie surprise for dessert, yum! Perfectly seasoned and the sides were great. Can't find a thing to complain about, including the service. Very nice, attentive staff. This will become a regular spot for our family.

Google
Good food, friendly staff, interesting decor/atmosphere. Great soup/sandwich/salad and burger place. Favorites were the flounder and pimento sandwiches. The bacon and apple was very tasty...only change would to use brie instead of cheddar; goes better with apples and bacon.

Google
Grabbed a late lunch here and enjoyed it so much! Service was quick and extremely friendly, the atmosphere (especially the outside seating) was relaxing, and the food was an absolute delight. Highly recommend the Mediterranean bowl! I would absolutely come back to try more dishes.

Google
Stopped here on our drive home from the beach. We ordered French onion soup, sweet crab bisque, a salad and a reuben. Everything was delicious, priced fairly, and came out quickly! Atmosphere is quiet and old-fashioned. Definitely worth the stop.

Google
Wonderful cafe with great food and kind staff. We had to go twice during our visit to NC because it was such a great experience. There are plenty of sandwich and burger options for anyone to enjoy (alongside appetizers, other entrees, and desserts). Highly recommend making a stop to this amazing restaurant. They treat you like family!

Google
Stopped today on the way home to NoVA from OBX. We walked in the same time as several other groups and the waitress made me feel like my kids and I were the only ones in the place, even though she was taking care of the entire restaurant by herself. On top of that, the food was great and the banana pudding was phenomenal. If I lived nearby, this would be my go to on a regular basis. Will stop every trip from now on.

Google
What a find!!!! Great food, service and atmosphere!! Our waitress was awesome and made wonderful suggestions for food to try! The food was amazing and well priced! I felt like I was at home with the friendly staff and owner! Down home feel!

Yelp
Pass the Salt is a cute little country cafe operated by the sweetest people! It deserves more than a 5 star rating. This was our second visit. Our family of 5 dropped by in the early afternoon on a Wednesday. We were warmly greeted, seated and made to feel comfortable and at home. The decor is simple and cute. Several tables are constructed of old doors, decorated and covered with glass. Many other artistic and creative decorative touches highlight this cute cafe. There is a good selection of beer, wine and specialty drinks as well as a great assortment of soft drinks. The menu has a wide selection of apps, sandwiches and salads (all unique and intriguing) I am a guy who enjoys a great burger from the great selection. I ordered the "Double Ringer Burger" and added bacon. I just found the best burger that I ever had! Two perfectly seasoned burgers were seared on both sides and perfectly pink in the middle. They were served on a tasty brioche bun with three deep fried onion rings and highlighted with a special sauce. All of the selections chosen by our group earned great reviews from my family. Portions are generous and served with a choice of sides. The house-made desserts sound delicious, but none of us had room to partake. Pass The Salt is well worth the drive from Sandbridge (1 hour).

Yelp
Not a look of restaurants in this area, but this one is far and few...... EXCELLENTE.......everything is so good here. Today my son got the ultimate burger which he has ordered 3 years in a row, it's good. My mother in law got the palminto cheese sandwich. OMG it's huge. It's like she got 2 sandwiches, it was humongous. I love the Baja bowl but today got the Baja burrito. I think I like the bowl more. Add shrimp. Best shrimp. The Reuben was also amazing. You really can't go wrong here A big menu. Lots of choices *I don't know what happened to their French fries. They use to be a good crinkle fry. Now they are different and just gross

Yelp
I stopped in at Pass the Salt with a friend after a round of golf. I've been here once or twice before, and the food is always good. The service was prompt, nice, and friendly. I ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp tacos. They were good even though the shrimp were slightly overcooked, and I wanted more bang (spice) in the sauce. My friend ordered the buffalo sauce fries, which are really good. The buffalo sauce was very tasty. They have a decent beer selection too. Recommended.

Yelp
For lunch I had the County Burger and chose mac n cheese for my side. This Burger is 5 Oz which was perfect for lunch portion with the side. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with the food menu and beer list, I think the owner served us as well. The inside where we sat (bc of hurricane Erin) is so cute and the music was perfect. There is also seating outside. I cant wait to go back for a salad, soup, and more!

Yelp
Such an amazing place - completely deserving of the high rating. Super cute with great service. It is small and our party of 6 needed to split into a group of 2 and 4 which was fine. Highly recommend the shrimp taco, pimento burger, and potato salad. But I'm sure everything is amazing!
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
This place is so cozy. It feels like you're part of the community. The potato salad was delish. I had the club. The house dressing on it is unique and makes the sandwich that much better. The people I was with had different sandwiches that they both enjoyed. No complaints!

Yelp
A hidden treasure right off the main road. Nice selection of American cuisine, great service, and excellent price.

Yelp
Service could be improved, and gluten free options would be nice, but we enjoy it enough.

Yelp
Had lunch here today, gyro and fries. Plus hubby had the county burger. Beautiful day and fantastic service as we sat outside. Service from the window, loved this. Fantastic views and loved the food! Burger was cooked perfectly and the onion rings were definitely hand breaded. The gyro meat, perfection and they were happy to put on a wrap plus the veggies were fresh especially the red onion. Enjoyed the French friends. Highly recommend the food here. Price was great and we will definitely be returning here.

Yelp
We were looking for a good, quick place to eat after escaping the obx traffic. We stopped here, and boy was it such a pleasant surprise. The service was quick and the food was outstanding!!! I've tried a lot of she-crab soups (one of my favorites) and this restaurant's was hands down the best I've ever had. The apple walnut salad was delicious too. My husband said his burger was the best one he'd had on our trip! I would highly recommend this cute little restaurant.

Yelp

Yelp
This lovely little eatery has a Key West spirit with the best dang burgers you have ever put to your lips! The menu will bring me back to try more...and more! I say don't pass up...Pass the Salt! It's clean and has a full menu to satisfy most of the family...even that picky one!

Jonathan A.

Yelp
Great customer service and highly recommend it!! My burger was amazing!! The waitress was very nice. I told her it was my first time here and she told me her recommendations. I ended up going with a customer burger and everything was tasty. Even the french fries were a great crisp to them!

Yelp
After checking out the nearby OBX Lizard Land in Currituck, NC, my family and I stopped at Pass the Salt Cafe for a late lunch. Despite it being 2 P.M. there was a decent crowd inside, and by the time we left an hour later the dinner rush was already starting. We were seated at a table with a cool sea turtle painting on it. My wife and I enjoyed a couple of local brews while looking over the menu. The choice was easy for me, the Pamlico Pimento ($8.50 with a side). This sandwich combines house-made pimento cheese with crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, house dressing, and drizzled with red pepper jelly on a grilled French roll. Wow, this was great! I really loved the sweet and spicy flavor of the jelly, and their pimento cheese is delicious. Our entire family was happy with their meal. There isn't much restaurant competition in the area, but even if there was, Pass the Salt would be at the top of the list.

Yelp
Great service, nice family atmosphere. There were 5 of us and we got a table on Saturday night without a wait.

Yelp
What a cute & fun spot on our trip from Norfolk to the Outer Banks. The decor is fun, a bot of Grandma's southern kitchen, and artsy all rolled into one. The service is friendly. Sandwiches, salads & burgers done right with interesting twists made with fresh ingredients. They also have specials. It is casual, family friendly and the kind of place ghat makes you feel welcomed. The pimento cheese was spot on. The breads on both sammies were fresh. We got mac & cheese that was fresh, creamy and loaded with cheese and our other side was fries ... simple crinkle cut but cooked well. The ice tea is fresh. Fair prices. Desserts and soups along with specials all sounded tasty, but we did not try them.

Allie B.

Yelp
This restaurant had the best atmosphere! Our server was super helpful in giving us recommendations for how to spend our time in the Outer Banks. We all got different meals, and each enjoyed our food respectively. A great place to eat if you want delicious, mostly healthy, options! The food can take a while to come out, since it's made so fresh, but 100% worth any wait!!

Yelp
Classic Americana with a service that makes you feel like you are in your good friend's kitchen. Hometown, feel good and local at its best!

Teresa J.

Yelp
We visited Pass The Salt middle of December and everything we had was delicious. Not pictures was the tomato basil soup which was also delicious. Both soups came out hot and taste very fresh and home made. I would come back here just for their soups! My sons kid's burger was thick and juicy and enough for even an adult. My hubby loved his club and the lunch meat and veggies had a great flavor and very fresh. I loved my Mediterranean bowl. Very fresh and generous portion of the veggies. We will definitely be back!

Ricky G.

Yelp
On the way home from the beach we stopped here. It's a nice place from all the fast food places in the area. The service and food were excellent.

Yelp
Great hidden gem. Next time I'm the area will stop again. Food was excellent. The ambiance is adorable. Almost missed it since no big sign.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! I usually get the gyro which is amazing but decided to get the sun-dried tomato chicken sandwich. It had so much flavor...the pesto the sun-dried tomatoes yummm! I will now be torn between the two! I haven't had anything here I didn't like! We almost always get Amber as our server and she is so sweet! The restaurant is super cute and they have a really nice out door area as well! Check them out on facebook to see when they have live music too! We don't have many local spots to go to but I'm am so glad this is one of them because I could eat here everyday! Edited to add photos from previous visit

Yelp
Very cute place. Clean and good food. Got the gyro, best Taziki's sauce I've tasted. And also got the club, very good and got a side of ranch to dip it (best I've had too!). Will visit again as we pass through.

Yelp
What a surprising little gem we stumbled across on Rt. 168 on our way north from OBX! Homemade soups, sandwiches and salads in a eclectic local restaurant were excellent! The food was super fresh & cooked with care. Our server was super friendly & helpful with best menu items. A great little spot for a homemade meal when your on the road.

John A.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the server was very nice You can eat inside or outside, old wooden floors and nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Great food! We try and visit Pass the Salt whenever we're visiting my daughter that lives in Currituck. Not you're typical Mom and Pop restaurant! Special flavors are always present!

Yelp
We stopped on our way to Virginia Beach, I loved this place. The bloody Mary's are the best. I bought the mix to take home as well. We had a shrimp chowder that was so creamy and tasty. I also had the Catfish. So good. This place is very rustic and has outdoor seating as well as indoor. Very friendly staff. This is a gem for sure that you must try if you are in the area. Get the catfish it was so yummy.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
With not much to choose from Pass the Salt is one of the better restaurants in Currituck. The food is decent 4 stars, the but the service is hit or miss. In a group, our entrees came out 10 minutes apart. So, those who had them had to eat before their food got cold even though others had not received their food. The staff is polite. If you are looking for burgers , wraps and salad, check give them a chance, just know you may not all eat at once.

Yelp
Pass The Salt is now 8 years strong. They have made additions with outdoor dining, added to their menu, and serve beer and wine. This place is really growing. They have live music in the evenings, and music bingo. They have gotten rid of the ice cream shop and turned it into a beer garden with outdoor dining and a place to relax by a fire pot. It's amazing how much they have grown in 8 years, and their food is amazing as always. Should I suggest that if your heading to the Outerbanks in NC, I highly suggest trying this place or coming back to the main land on a rainy evening. It will not disappoint!
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
Upon arrival the staff was very friendly and greeted me in. I asked the waitress what she recommended and she suggested the Pamlico Pimento with added grilled chicken. Let me tell you it was AMAZING! The bread was nice and crisp the chicken was so juicy and that bacon was SO good. 10/10!! I also got a side of the Asian cucumbers and also very tasty!! The covered patio is an added bonus because who doesn't love a good porch with the perfect weather!? Definitely definitely recommend!!! Seems like a hole in the wall but definitely does not feel that way once you dine!

Yelp
Tight parking, love the Sorry Charlie! Busy lunch time! Great beer selection. Hope to return

Yelp
I had heard very good things about this small cafe type eatery, so we gave it a try. It's a bright fun atmosphere, it was bustling at 6:30, Friday night. (They don't take reservations). We got lucky and seated pretty quick. The menu leans more on the sandwich/burger side but some entrees were offered on the menu. We both chose a cup of French onion soup to start and then the County Burger for our dinner. The waitress was very good and attentive and brought us the soup, just the right amount, very good and had good flavor. The hamburgers came out and looked delicious, handmade patty on a toasted brioche bun, served with fries. It was cooked to perfection, a nice medium rare, juicy and flavorful, have to say it was one of the best burgers I've had. Prices were very reasonable, and the crowd was a mix of local and visitors. We will certainly be back.

Yelp
Not often do i give five stars but this location truly deserves accolades for what they have accomplished. Now don't get me wrong this is not a five star or Michelin star intent here. But that been said they have created a very nice and bright eating experience. Great food well exectuted . A very creative american style menu very good quality at a very reasonable price. They exceeded our expectations and will definitely come back when we are in the area to try more items from their menu Very well done!

Yelp
I adore off the path Mom & Pops. Pass the Salt delivers on both accounts and more. I had heard from word of mouth, not Yelp of this business. It's taken me a long time for the timing to work out and so happy it did today. The restaurant sits off old Courthouse Rd in historic Currituck. Just a stones throw from Caratoke Highway. Your GPS will lead you to their doorstep. The good size gravel lot seems adequate on most days for their business. No debris in the lot and the perimeter grasscwas mowed. Cool history of the mid 1930's home turned eatery. It once belonged to Judge Morris in the Morris Farm fame in the early days. The home has been a rental in recent years turned restaurant almost four years ago by current owner. The dining room is downright country quaint with lots of color from the antique wood chairs and their EAT letter above the fireplace. The original wood floors run throughout. The joint probably seats 30 max if full. A chalk board is up front with specials. Restrooms are just inside where you enter. Lighting is a bit dim with a few casement windows up front. The counter to order is in the rear. Menus are supplied upon walk up. A smallish menu that consist of burgers, sandwiches & pasta dishes should please everyone in the family. Prices are affordable too! A dinner menu has larger entrees and looked appealing. My lunch today after a recommendation from owner Dan. Pamlico Pimento / House pimento cheese topped w/ applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, house dressing and pepper jelly on grilled French. Side of cucumber salad that's made w/ mandarin orange. Totally loved every messy bite and holy smokes that salad rocked! On season they also have an ice cream shop up front before you enter the dining room. Scoops, bowls and shakes in a variety of flavors is available. They also have a dessert case inside. Thanks so much Dan, it was terrific talking to you about the business history and future. I look forward to coming back.

Yelp
So impressed with this cute little cafe. The waitresses were very quick and made sure to take everyones order exactly in order. The food is bomb and absolutely delicious! I definitely have a few other things I'd love to try so I'll 100% be back! I went to a seafood place called Frog island and the food there was fishy and extremely disappointing. This little cafe restored my faith in Currituck. Thank you all for the hard work! I see you! (Ordered courthouse club w/ side of fries)

Yelp
Have probably passed this restaurant a hundred times & today we decided to stop. Just a party of two, so we were able to be seated quickly indoors. They do offer covered porch seating at large tables with comfortable chairs if you prefer to be outside. The Restuarant is located on a quiet side street just before the Knotts Island-Currituck Sound Ferry Terminal. The restaurant is lovely with craftsman-like architecture boasting a large wraparound covered porch. The interior is quirky-eclectic with coastal touches, but not the overused nautical themes, it's just perfect. Now to the food. After looking over the menu, which is impressive, I decided on the "Flew The Coup" grilled chicken sandwich. Let me backup & state my husband & I LOVE to eat out, so we have had "the good, the bad & the ugly" when it comes to restaurant food. Today's lunch was perfect! My grilled chicken sandwich was freshly grilled with OMG crispy bacon, decadent cheese on a toasted ciabatta bun with a heavenly drizzle of balsamic on fresh greens. The meal comes with a side of French fries, macaroni & cheese, potato salad ( they were out ) and an Asian Cucumber salad. I chose the cucumber salad & glad I did, it was the perfect accompaniment to my chicken, thinly sliced cucumber & summer squash in a tangy (tangerine style) base. My mother always taught her daughters to always leave a bit of your meal behind, but I'm sorry to confess I left nothing but the fork and knife. My husband ordered the "The Courthouse Club" with a side of macaroni and cheese. As you can tell from the pics, he started in before I could possibly get a pic or two, sorry, it too was that good. With three levels of perfectly toasted bread married to scrumptious layers of ham, turkey, bacon & cheese perfected with garden fresh lettuce & tomatoes made this club sandwich an absolute hit! This restaurant is a 5 star winner for us both. We will definitely be making this a regular stop coming & going, meeting friends for oysters at their oyster bar & having a cold beverage before heading back to OBX. I look forward to fall dining from the porch & enjoying the views toward the sound across picturesque fields of farmland. See you again very soon! Thx, The Joneses of OBX

Yelp
Great little cafe! Staff was so friendly and polite. We had a large group of 10 and they didn't disappoint. Had the flounder sandwich, it was perfect. Not to much batter and perfectly crispy. The tatziki sauce was a huge hit. Delicious. Not around Currituck often but if we are we will definitely stop in again.

Yelp
We stopped for lunch at this very interesting place. Ordered up the southwest club sandwich and some she crab soup for my self and my wife ordered up one of their special salads. Wow the she crab soup was really good that's a must try if you go. Southwest club sandwich I had was huge I was only able to eat 1/2 of the saving the other half for later. Same deal with the salad my wife ordered she was only able to eat about half of it. Portion sizes are good pricing is reasonable and the service was outstanding will be back to this place again.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Food is great, service is just ok. I took off a star due to the place not being the cleanest. Our table was very dirty. The waitress saw me getting some food (not just crumbs) off and asked if I wanted her to clean the table. The windowsill by our table was stained with food. I think this place could use a good deep cleaning. The Mediterranean Steak Sandwich is one of my favorites here.
google avatar

Yelp
Rolled up on a Friday night. The place is very cute and beachy looking on the outside and inside. It's a very small and rustic on the inside. The food was meh. I ordered a cheeseburger with cucumber salad and it was okay. My wife ordered the Baja Burrito with chicken. It was odd because it had a strong barbecue flavor and was not impressive at all. Advertised as a coffee shop/restaurant, we were very disappointed when we were told that they couldn't make any cappuccinos or lattes, just regular coffee. Their machine is definitely not an industrial model. It was extremely slow. The poor waitress had to wait about 4 minutes for it to spit our 1/2 cup of coffee...no exaggeration! There were several things on their menu that was not available and their lengthy dessert list ending up being one choice, cheese cake...which was the worst cheesecake I've ever had in my life. It was supposed to be a plain cheesecake but it tasted like stale peanuts. It was tossed immediately. I'll give it one more shot and try something else before I scratch it off my list. The only waitress there was very sweet and was doing her best to accommodate.

Yelp
Good food, nice location Apparently they have secret menu items for the locals, but I didn't tell you that. Service is a stretch. Saw one couple leave after waiting to be seated and once seated abandoned.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this little eatery! We stopped in on a whim and i'm so glad we did because our server was nice and my food was excellent!! I had the Sun Dried Chicken sandwich with a side of cucumber salad. The combination of the sun dried red peppers, goat cheese, and greens with the balsamic and pesto went PERFECTLY with the grilled chicken! It totally looked like an adult sandwich, but even my 5 year old daughter was giving me two thumbs up and stealing bites whenever she could!! There are several other interesting food items that I will definitely be back to try! The only crazy thing is that only one person manages the front (host, bus, and server) and then there are 2 cooks in the back. They truly have to hustle!! I'll be back!!
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
Food was delicious! My wife and I got burgers and they were cooked perfectly with fresh toppings. Fries were cooked perfect too! Waitress was very friendly. The restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms. Will definitely be back!
