Excellent food and place,tasty food and great staff. It is growded and you have to wait couple of minutes but you get served regularely. Just remember don't put the tables together nor the chairs if there's more then two people,talk to the waiter and he will arange everything for you.

Benard is the kind of café that looks at you the way old aristocrats look at modern shoes: politely, but with the quiet conviction that everything was better in 1868 — including the scandals. You don’t come here for the coffee. You come here for the ambience of respectable decay, the kind that only places older than your entire family tree can pull off. The ceilings have more confidence than most people I’ve dated. The chandeliers look like they’ve survived three monarchies and one badly-behaved revolution. And the paintings? They hang on the walls like elderly relatives refusing to leave a party because “music these days is nonsense.” Even the piano in the corner feels like it’s waiting for someone dramatic to sit down and confess a sin. Benard is not charming in the Instagram way. It’s charming in the “we’ve existed for 150 years and we are tired but dignified” way. You sit here long enough and you start hearing the ghosts of 19th-century gossip: who eloped with whom, who lost a fortune at cards, who ran away to Paris to “find themselves” and instead found debt. And the staff moves with the steady rhythm of people who’ve learned that time is a suggestion, not a rule. If you want a modern café, go elsewhere. If you want a place that whispers, “Relax, child, history has already seen worse than you,” sit down. Order a coffee. Watch the tourists get confused. Become part of the furniture for an hour. Benard doesn’t need your approval. It has already outlived everyone who ever did.

Very nice cafe in a good location. Very small seats and very crowded. We were lucky to get a seat. I got chicken salad which was cold but still tasty. My son got a quiche, which was good and very very hot. The service was quick and prices were good. The pastries were not really good.

I’m not surprised this place has a low score. I’ve had good service across Lisbon until now, but this spot breaks the streak. The staff feels unfriendly. I ordered a coffee and two small pastries. They were fine, nothing special. The location is the only upside. If you’re in a hurry and just want a quick coffee, it works. If you want to sit somewhere comfortable for a break, pick another café.

Absolutely great burgers. Wasn’t expecting it to be that good when we arrived, but as we just wanted a small meal we ordered 2 burgers with fries. Have to say one of the best burgers we had in ages. You can tell they’re proper home made burgers. We had the ones with sautéed mushrooms. Yum yum. Service was great and prices very reasonable. I’d highly recommend.

Lovely interior, wanted to have coffee & dessert after our dinner but they closed pretty early so we could only get takeaway to have it in our hotel room upstairs. 😌 Their Pastéis de nata were the least impressive out of all the places we went to. The custard filling was stiff and the tart shell was less flaky. A bit overpriced for the quality we received. 😗

I tried their portugese sponge cake guardanapos. Actually I wanted to try the one in napkin shape but they gave me the rulo one (little misunderstanding no problem) It was good the creme de ovos (yellow egg yolk cream) was there. It’s an old pastry shop. There was no place to sit so I ate standing in the bar.

A cute pastelaria located in Baixa / Chiado. They have a massive selection of pastries, including, of course, the legendary pastei de nata. It's a pretty classic cafe, with both a nice counter for a quick bite, small outdoor seating area, and takeaway option. I stopped by shortly after my flight landed in Lisbon, and it was a great introduction to Portuguese pastries. My friend and I decided to split a mini quiche and pastel de nata (in an effort to be ~somewhat~ healthy). The mini quiche was solid, with a decent texture and a nice little crust on the outside; it was a lovely and much-needed savory bite before a long day of sweets. The pastel de nata was also good, with a nice creamy, custardy interior and flaky shell. It trended a bit too sweet, and the outer shell wasn't quite as flaky or crispy as I would have liked. However, it had been sitting out for a while, so it's possible that we just missed the optimal timing for peak freshness. It was also a smidge touristy and overpriced, which, I suppose is to be expected for much of the Baixa / Chiado neighborhood, especially anything close to major tourist attractions like the Bertrand Bookstore. All in all, Benard is a great spot for a quick bite, but if you specifically want an amazing pastei de nata, there are plenty of other shops that specialize in the pastry and can give you one far more worth your euro.

What's the hype? This place is a tourist trap for sure. The place looks like an old bakery and the service is horrible. The waiter, Miguel, sat me at a table and forgot about me. The place isn't very busy but he's running around as if he's overwhelmed with customers. I ordered a burger and fries. The burger patty itself was good, however, the bread it was on tasted like fried flour mixed with water. Then when I'm halfway through eating the waiter brings over some ketchup and mayo, that was sitting on the counter for a while. The pastries looked good but I was done after that.

We only came for drinks, but it's a beautiful place with a ton of character. There is an impressive menu that offers a variety of food options. The restaurant is large and able to accommodate large parties.

Food tastes okay, but service was extremely slow for just a soup and salad. It took almost 30 minutes for a simple caprese salad to come out! I also ordered a pastel de bacalhau (salted cod fritter) and although it had good flavor, it was very dry on the inside. The restaurant has a large assortment of baked goods on display here, which might be good if you want to pop in quickly for a coffee and pastry. Otherwise, I'd skip this spot for lunch. Also, random note: the women's restroom operates via a special token, so you'll need to ask a waiter to provide one to you. I didn't know this at first and was confused, but thankfully another lady came by and told me.

It is a decent spot to sit down and have a quick drink, among the hustle and bustle of central Lisbon. The servers are very quick and attentive, and the fans with the mist reservoirs are a very nice touch for hot days. Will repeat.

This place was nice, in a good location. They only had one server outside, so I understood the slow service. The server was attentive even though he had a lot of customers. Recommend

Do not come here for egg tarts or drinks. Service is extremely slow and price is over priced. Egg tart is cold and too sweet. Soup will be much better if it is hot. This is a tourist trap.

Good spot for breakfast and a drink. The pastries are phenomenal, as are the croissants. If you order the egg croissant, be aware that it's an egg cream, similar to what is in their tarts, so it's very sweet, but delicious!

The food is average, however the natural orange juice is some kind of concentrate and came with a bug in it. The service is just okay but it seems like they have one guy managing the entire outside patio. There is no way one person can provide great service to this many tables.

Very nice place to stop for coffee when visiting. At the corner, nearby you can usually find singers or bands. All that makes this place perfect for quick rest.

Was hungry for a rush of sugar after a long day of walking around Lisbon. Luckily this spot was right next to my hotel and decided to pop in for a Pastel De Nata. Ambiance and feel of the cafe was nice and welcoming. The dessert itself was alright, flavorful but not as creamy as I have had at other places.

With so many good places in Chiado don't waist your time here. Worst service ever. Be prepared to wait 30m before the waiter decides to come to your table.

exactly... Meh. 20 euros for the same breakfast we had multiple times for 12 euros at other places and not nearly as good. Coffee was ok. Service was underwhelming and slow. Won't go again.

Pastelaria Benard is more hype than quality or service for that matter. The croissants are good but not phenomenal, the chocolate ones are merely regular croissants with chocolate spread. The pre-payment is a pain in the rear - it makes the assumption that I know what I want before I do. I much prefer to order as I go and then pay.

Good alternative to the nearby Brasileira Café, but if you don't have much time to spend in Lisbon go somewhere else! This place is known for croissants with egg or chocolate ganache smearred in the middle of the pastry when served...but it is pricey. It is usually packed on Saturdays and Sundays when The Croissants come out of the oven...

Assortment of pastries, coffee was great, service was average (one waiter per 10 tables and seemed stressed). Asked waiter at least two times to bring the check and it took him about 25 min. He spoke enough English to be able to order food. Food came rather quickly. Descent location right by a metro stop. Food was average - croissant was a bit dry and the pastel de nata was average.

I see a lot of the reviews here are for the bakery. My wife and I actually came here for dinner and it was well worth it. My wife had a very well cooked steak while I had shrimp rossole, which was fairly good. Dessert was amazing, as of course there is a lot to choose from. Our sever was helpful and polite.

Worth a visit if you are passing by just to grab a delicious croissant! Used to go there very often with my mum (a long long time ago).

The worst experience I've ever had. Good location, so we stopped at. Almost half an hour waiting- and the waiter stopped avoiding our glances and came to our table! - only to turn around in the middle of my order and go away! We saw him going around the tables, pretending to brush off a few things! We had nothing left but to stand up and leave. They don't want guests? One star for the location.
