Best Italian butter cookies that I've had (better than Veniero's by a long shot IMO)

Google
I was absolutely amazed by the number of pastry, cookie, and cake options available here. After a trip to Italy I have been trying to replicate my experience by going to every Pasticceria I can find. We got here right before they were closing and the waiter seated us right away and took great care of us. This seems like a very popular place in the neighborhood. I felt like the prices were very reasonable and the few treats we ordered were very tasty.

Google
Cute bakery with a HUGE amount of items. Ordered cannolis and they were filled upon ordering. The filling was good but not the best I’ve ever had. Would come again and try other items out.

Treated myself to my favorite—rainbow sprinkle cookies—and they were some of the worst I’ve ever had. They were way too thin, which gave them a hard, unpleasant crunch, and there was a strange aftertaste I couldn’t place. Not very sweet or buttery either. Overall just really disappointing, especially for the price.

Google
The original cheesecake here was the best I had all trip. The Italian cheesecake was a bit lemony, almost like a lemon pound cake, which wasn't bad. The key lime tart wasn't good (don’t get it), and the cannoli was just okay. The lobster tail with cream was pretty good. The staff was super friendly and sweet, and they're open late.

Good: The selection on offer was huge and looked great in the cabinet. The place is open until later and the prices are reasonable. OK: Unless you are ordering takeaway for the Italian cookies or bakes goods, you cannot order at the cashier for any other item. You have to be seated and wait for a server to take your order. We ordered the chocolate cake, some Italian baked goods, coffee and tea. The baked goods and tea were on-point. Though the coffee was weak and had no sugar, nor was any provided. The cake was dry and crumbly and way too sweet.

Google
Stopped in today to try the cheesecake. First thing is that we weren't acknowledged or greeted when we walked in and we were the only people in the place. We stood there and were never asked if we could be helped. I finally had to ask the girl behind the counter if I could get a piece of their cheesecake. It was very odd. Fast Forward to the cheesecake though. I was excited because it didn't have the Graham cracker crust and it looked delicious. $8 later, it was some of the most strange tasting cheesecake that I've ever eaten. It didn't taste like your normal NY cheesecake at all. The piece was very small too. On the flip side, the strawberries were pretty yummy. 😬

Google
The pastries are amazing. This is our go-to place for cannolis, especially the pistachios ones. The best we have had. The eclairs also very good. The service is slow and usually only one person helping for takeout and not very explanatory about the offerings and pricing. Went at 9pm on a weekday and was crowded. Maybe the afternoon is better service!

Google
I really enjoyed this bakery! Big thank you to Rock and his lovely, beautiful wife! She is an angel. The pastries are delicious, I would definitely come back for more. My children enjoyed the big cookies!

Yelp
I went here in the afternoon on a Friday. They were busy. There was only one person working the counter and she was tied up working on a cake. So we had to wait for a while. Ordered a $5 m&m cookie. It was good but not amazing. Would I eat it again, yes. Would I go out of my way to get it, no.

Yelp
This place isn't good. Plain and simple. The waiter had no clue what kind of drip coffee they were serving. Isn't that, like, the bare minimum at a place like this? If you're keen on European pastries, don't bother coming here. But if you love overly sweet, Americanized sugar bombs, this might be your paradise. Personally, I couldn't even finish one bite of the eclairs without gagging. It was gross. I wouldn't come back if someone paid me. Save your time, money, and taste buds--there are better options literally everywhere else.
google avatar

Ray B.

Yelp
Not as good as I remember it. Maybe it's just me being nostalgic, but I remember the pastries being fresher in the past. Maybe it's because it was the middle of the day on a Monday, regardless, they should do better. BB

Yelp
This place came recommended by a local for cannolis and they did not disappoint. They have mini and full size, pistachio and chocolate chip. My wife is always like "cannoli is meh" and these just changed her life. I also had an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on croissant and that was amazing too. The coffee was unimpressive but let's be honest, I was here for the cannoli, and that was super legit.

Yelp
During my trip to nyc a few months ago Walking around at night with friends we were in the mood for some dessert and we saw this place had people inside and that's always a good sign Went in trying to do some table service or eat there but man let tell you the reason it's not a 5 is because the girl who was at the counter was in a mood and giving me attitude and I tried to be friendly and fun and even funny but it just annoyed her and got her more snippy Wasn't sure why but yeah it just made me uncomfortable and confusion on what I what I was pointing to and her not understanding I wanted to stay vs take out So I eventually just took my box of few items with my friends but I'm not going to lower the score more because the place was good and price was fair and it was clean

Yelp
I love Roccos. They have the best cheesecake in New York, not up for discussion. I'm talking about playing cheesecake with strawberries on top. No other flavors. I can't speak to those. Pastries are always delicious, cookies fresh. Whenever I'm in the city, I make sure to stop by. Definitely a great spot to grab a coffee, bring friends and family when they are in town. Last time I went, it was at seven in the morning and the service was impeccable. It does get trickier when there are lots of tourists in line. But be patient, it worth it.

Yelp
Italian pastries in the Village. Throughout the years, I always stop in for a freshly filled chocolate cannoli when I'm on Bleeker... need to search out others in NYC to compare, but for me this is always a yummy treat. $6 regular size (they also have mini)... Need to branch out and try rainbow cookies, pignoli cookies, etc.

Yelp
As far as Italian bakeries, I'm biased to the 2 located in my neighborhood. I just love them! However, when I find myself on Bleecker Street, I tend to pop in at Rocco to explore any cravings. To be fair, I haven't tried the Cannoli which seems to be the celebrity of the bakery but it's on my to try list. I won't stop there. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. The menu is diverse and they can do wonders with French Toast if it's your thing. I recently enjoyed a 2 egg special served with toast and home fries. Satisfying. I've had all kinds of beverages--from iced coffee and cappuccino to their amazing teas (hot/iced). I love their butterfly biscuits or biscotti and a 1/4 lb left the shop with me at just $5.00. I just don't have a wild sweet tooth but there's good stuff here. A variety of Italian pastries and biscotti. Yummy. The atmosphere is cozy and service is decent. An old reliable, Rocco is a feast for the eyes and tastebuds! Check them out.

Yelp
I used to get my old boss's birthday cakes here, so while shopping in the area, I stopped in for a treat. The staff is still very friendly and prompt. The treats are still beautiful. My mini fruit tart was okay, not as i remembered it. My friend was sad due to her chai tasting like milk and cinnamon, no tea. Next time, I'll check what's freshest and try it out.

Yelp
Not impressed. A friend told us to grab cheesecake here (since this was last on our bucket list of food to get while in NYC). Not good. The cannoli tasted super stale and like a store bought overly processed cookie... the cheesecake was way too sweet and almost dry (can cheesecake be dry?) The eclair was just meh... for the price and the amount of options in NYC, I definitely would not recommend.

Yelp
I like this spot! Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from but I've found service here to be very welcoming. Cookies and sweets vary in quality but for the most part have been great. I do love their fruit tart and mini cannoli. I haven't had their cakes so can't comment on that. Also, their iced coffee is really good and bonus points for being open till late!

Yelp
The greatest black and white cookies in all of New York! We get them for every holiday. When in the West Village this is the perfect place to stop and have dessert and coffee after dinner somewhere else. A classic Manhattan experience with very friendly people creating a great experience. If you're local or visiting, you want Rocco's on your itinerary.
google avatar

Yelp
Freshly made cannolis were delicious, so yummy and creamy and sweet. They make it right in front of you so you know it is not premade. The service was super quick and friendly. The vibe inside was so cute. They have bathrooms they have seating you can even come here to do a little study break. It was adorable.
google avatar

Yelp
Crowds abound at this Greenwich Village bakery. Surely they would have a fresher selection. The Red Velvet was more chocolatey than Velvety. And the Cheese cake was more a softer warm cream cheese. If you want the best Italian pastries head east to Ferrara's in Little Italy
google avatar

Dario L.

Yelp
Hunting around Manhattan today for some great Sfogliatelle. Was led to bleeker at so I'd be sure not to miss a new spot. Space and service were both very nice though I just did a grab n go. Though the coffee didn't exactly do it for me the pastry I sought did not disappoint. Would definitely try again...likely those amazing lobster tails they had

Yelp
This is a great spot for Italian cookies! Pros: + Great for gifts + Delicious biscotti + Huge variety of flavors + Plenty of gorgeous Italian pastries. IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
Great unassuming italian bakery in the village. Deceivingly large with seating all the way to the back and a nice little outdoor garden seating area in the back. All your usual italian pastry choices, an extra nice treat is Rocco's italian ice. Always get lemon! Staff was nice and polite, restaurant was clean. Great!

Yelp
This is a nice place. I came here on a Friday night because I was craving a cheesecake and coffee- together! (lol) when I entered I waited to be seated, table for one, and ordered a small cappuccino and a cheesecake. It's a nice place and people are constantly in and out, kind of fast paced, but I took it easy and relaxed during my stay. The waiter was nice, and brought out my order. The cheesecake was a little sweet with a hint of toffee and caramel flavor and the cappuccino was a little bitter for my taste, but nonetheless I enjoyed both. Although it was busy on a Friday night I enjoyed a few pages of my book while I sipped on my cappuccino and took bites of my cake. Overall a nice experience and a good place to come with friends.

Yelp
I came here to pick up a few cookies for a team meeting at work. I ordered a mix of the Italian cookies (standard) and two black and white cookies (very good). The cashier was very helpful and patient with me figuring out which ones to pick. Pretty solid Italian bakery. I'd definitely come back to try their pastries.

Yelp
Great spot for a wide variety of desserts that's open a little later than usual on a weekend (11:00PM) for people to sit down and enjoy. The only catch is that any table you sit at will be table service only. You can't just buy something and sit down to eat it so be prepared to pay tips when you sit down. At least the pastries and coffee will be served on a plate or cup and a little more fresh than if it were packed up in a box.

Yelp
First off, shout-outs to this place's old Covid policy where they considered not servicing the unvaccinated to be discriminatory. If I had seen this sign, I likely would have never walked in but luckily I didn't know about this old news and I went in with one another. With one other person, we went with two different types of NY style cheesecake. I went with the Pistachio Cheesecake and the other person got the Strawberry Cheesecake. I didn't realize that the bottom of the pistachio cheesecake was going to be super green almost reminding me of bad artificial pistachio ice cream but at least the top was jam packed with it. It was overly sweet and honestly it almost did taste a bit artificial which overpowered the flavors of the cheesecake. Overall I didn't really like it at all being both saccharine sweet and with a bad texture. The strawberry one was a whole lot better. It was a mix of strawberries and strawberry syrup and it was less sweet overall. I could taste the cheesecake better which was just OK. It was not the best I've had or close but certainly not the worst. I found the cake a bit dry in general and it was a bit less rich than other spots though not overly sweet which is a good thing. My dessert was terrible and the other one was okay. Low 2/borderline upper 1.

Yelp
Not as good as it used to be. We went to Pasticceria Rocco for dessert and the pickings were a little slim. What we selected was so so at best. We had: - Red Velvet Cake - it was tasty, we liked the chocolate with the cream cheese frosting. - M&M cookie - Okay, nothing special - Lobster Tail - the cream was waxy and the shell was not crisp, if a bit moist. Everything was served on paper plates/in disposable cups, not classy or special. We may have to remove this from our dessert rotation.

Yelp
Cute Italian pastry place. Late night pastry that your craving, I don't think they have the best stuff in NY but great place to sit down have a cannoli and some espresso. Huge selection of bakery items. Can't go wrong with coming here all times of the day.
google avatar

Roya J.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times so definitely time for an update on the review. Known for their cheesecake, but I love their cannoli. I always ask for fresh filled and look at me cross eyed like yeah that's all we do. Come here once a year and not going to risk getting a prefilled one, hehe.

Mattia Z.

Yelp
Average Cannoli, not the right texture, filled too much and too many chocolate chips, if you buy something and you want to seat 5 minutes like in a PASTICCERIA you can't do so unless you ask the "waiter", that's the opposite of italian pastries. The ambiance looks clean and chill tho and i'm sure the other pastries are better than my Cannolo.

Yelp
Food was good. But service staff was so bad. I just left the table since no one was giving me a menu nor trying to take my order. No one wiped down the table. I've never had service this bad in NYC. It's better to get it all to go. They seem very short-staffed.

Yelp
We stopped in for dessert after dinner nearby. We ordered the Oreo cheesecake to share. My friend ordered the wild strawberry tea, and I got the honey bush apricot tea. The Oreo cheesecake was superrrr rich, and a bit too much for our taste. It tasted a bit too much like a block of cream cheese. In hindsight we should've tried the cannolis instead, but my friend had been craving cheesecake. The teas were delicious and perfect for a chilly evening! The honeybush apricot tea was lightly sweet with the essence of honey and a touch of ginger. Service was quick even when it started filling up a bit and we were able to get to go cups with hot water for our teas. Overall would recommend but maybe not the cheesecake unless you're a fan of super rich super cheesy cheesecake!
google avatar

Michele D.

Yelp
Now this is a cannoli. So many places will do them too sweet. Here they will fill them when you order and you can actually tell there's some cheese in there. The glass counter display holds a wealth of Italian cookies, personally I went for the eclair instead. This is a nice place for someone with a sweet tooth, and you can sit at the cute little tables and have your coffee.

Yelp
Glad I made a pit stop in this bakery shop as I needed to bring home some Italian Rainbow Cookies. I walked in and there they were. As beautiful as ever. Well, they were Halloween themed which was super cute but they tasted like they should and were moist just like I like them. Prego!
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
I don't know about the other items. We drove here for the Cannolis. The coffee wasn't the greatest. Good pastry shop.

Jackie B.

Yelp
New Yorker here. Not sure why I played into the hype of going here when there are plenty of fantastic Italian bakeries around the city. Cookies lacked taste, the service at the front was horrible, and when I asked to buy a lobster tail and a cup of coffee so I can sit after making my initial box of cookies purchase the lady told me I had to get on a different line. Like what? I just waited 30min to get a box of cookies and I'm looking to spend more money and you're going to deny me a purchase? There were probably at least 10 tables open. Never heard of a business who doesn't want to continue to sell you something... anyway, go elsewhere.

Felice M.

Yelp
When it's good, it's very good...but sadly more often than not, it's bad. The quality of the baked goods has significantly declined over the years. Unfortunately, the owner/ management are arrogant. and refuse to acknowledge when there is a legitimate problem. Local delivery is even worse. Beware of bait and switch with stale $20 a pound cookies.
google avatar

Jaimie C.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for the best cheesecake in NYC and this may be my second fave cheesecake after junior's Besides the cheesecake, I wasn't a huge fan of the other Italian desserts that we got, since they were really heavy on the cream side. Cheesecake: 1. Oreo cheesecake (5/5): this was so freaking good 2. Blueberry cheesecake (5/5): Thai was also very good, it's different from Oreo cheesecake because the inside has some blueberry fillings Eclair: not a huge fan of the eclair because I don't like how much cream it's stuffed with Rainbow cookie: not bad, not too sweet, but not great either. Ambiance: can get really busy on the weekends after dinner!
google avatar

Barry B.

Yelp
Amazing lobster tail pastry aka sfoglitella that was dipped in chocolate and had chocolate whipped cream inside. The pignoli cookies were also great. Nice staff and busy but efficient moving people through. Definitely returning!

Yelp
Excellent Bakery, Got the Lobster Tail, it's a treat, I suggest splitting it between 2.. would be a Great Date.

Yelp
We were having a work event for a colleague and their favorite sweet was cannolis so I said I knew the perfect place to get them. What I love most about this place and their cannolis is that they fill them to order. They are fresh and delish! No soggy cannolis here! Also they just look so cute! The mini ones are sold by the pound and can be dipped with chocolate chips or pistachios so I mixed it up a little. Highly recommend! You can dine in if you'd like and they have a cute patio in the back.
google avatar

Lesley B.

Yelp
Huge selection of cookies, pastries, cakes, teas, and coffee. Outstanding service! They were so patient and explained everything as I asked about every flavor. Cute little tables and a nice room in the back. Great place for a date.

Yelp
worst service .... they were so rude not wanting us to sit down while we ordered got mad at every single thing we were doing and just rushing us out . DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT THE WORST SERVICE AND BE TREATED POORLY

Yelp
Pasticceria Rocco is a pretty historic Italian bakery with a huge variety of affordable sweets for both take-out and dining in - cookies, cakes, eclairs, cannolis, you name it. They even have mini options of some of their items for an especially cheap small bite if you're full after a meal, which are super cute. If you choose to sit in, a server will bring you a menu and bring your order to you. It's a similar spot to Veniero's across town, though not quite as elegant in ambience. I got a cannoli and a hot chocolate, both of which were solid. The cannoli was good but didn't stand out to me compared to other cannolis I've had, which were admittedly also at well-known Italian bakeries in other cities, so maybe they all just do it well. I have to knock off a star because, based on their Instagram page, this place developed some pretty wacky political opinions and an aversion to public health measures about a year ago. Not sure if they got hacked, hired some freewheeling social media person, or really hold those beliefs, but I hope they don't treat other health and safety regulations with such disregard as a place that serves food. I'm just glad I didn't visit at an earlier time when the risk of getting seriously ill from COVID was much higher.

Yelp
Cute Italian cafe that my friend really enjoys. He really likes the cannolis here. This past Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed a mini fruit tart and a mini cannoli. I really liked the fruit tart as the fruit (blackberry, half a strawberry and a slice of kiwi) was fresh and had a nice sweet glaze. The fruit tart filling was delicious and creamy. I wish the crust was crispier/crunchier - it felt almost a bit soggy. The mini cannolis had a really nice shell but the ricotta cheese was much too sweet for me. Overall, solid options. My friend said the desserts reminded him of ones from Europe!
google avatar

Jill R.

Yelp
Delicious pastries! I ordered a variety of cookies to take back to TX to my family. My favorite was the heart shaped commie with raspberry filling.
google avatar

Kathy K.

Yelp
This quaint Bakery located in the West Village of NYC has quite the assortment of desserts. I ordered the Napoleon $5.50 and it was one of the best I've ever had. We enjoyed inside but they also have an outdoor patio in the back. The service was great.

Serina G.

Yelp
I was craving a chocolate mousse pie and my husband said his dad used to pick one up every Sunday when he was younger. We called FIL and he named this place. I called ahead to ask if they had any chocolate mousse pies and was told they had a couple 7 inch pies left for $35. When we arrived the very bothered employee (who after greeting us, proceeded to handle her own tasks before following through with our order) went back and brought out a chocolate CAKE. Was then told they don't have any chocolate mousse pies. Although annoyed, we still ordered rainbow cookies (my favorite) and florentines. I was unimpressed. The rainbow cookies were dry and tasted stale. I will acknowledge the vibrant colors of the sponge. The florentines were so crunchy I cut my tongue and there tasted like maple syrup. I missed the chewy balance to the crunch. I'm a Veniero's girl at heart and I didn't even get my pie.

Charlie C.

Yelp
Food is decent. Not the most amazing pastries but decent enough. The prices are comparable to other places in the area-- meaning expensive (but it's NYC so it is what it is). Staff is fairly terrible. Can't tell you how many times I'm standing all alone trying to order something to go while one of the workers is hiding around the corner on their phones. Have to say "excuse me" several times before they even look up. Could be better. I've had worse. 3 stars. You ain't missing a thing if you skip it.
google avatar

Reyna R.

Yelp
Amazing customer service! We came here just because we were walking by. We had a horrible experience a few stores down at the nuts factory but we were still craving something sweet and luckily walked in here. The desserts were amazing! Their cannolis are filled fresh to order so they maintain their crunch. Their napoleon was delicious. We also got a variety we ordered fruit tarts and cookies as well as croissants for breakfast. The ambiance is cute and they had plenty of seating in the back. This for sure is a place to try!
google avatar

Norma T.

Yelp
I have really tried to deal with this place. Given them many a chance. I call And ask if they have sugar free cakes. He tells me he will check with the kitchen. Comes back and tells me the kitchen doesn't know. English is not their first language as my daughter goes there to buy some pastries and asks for 12 cookies. Girl doesn't seem to understand and when she gets home she has 10 cookies. One time i do a delivery order and they leave out a lemon merengue small pie and charge me for it. I called and the girls after I explain just hangs up. I am so over these people. So sad
google avatar

Sandra G.

Yelp
Best cannolis No frills and clean Very reasonably priced Italian cookies and espresso are also decent

Yelp
Pasticceria Rocco was so great we went twice in two days!! The Pignoli cookies and everything else is to die for. And the Hot Chocolate is amazing!! I've never had anything like it before. I can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Service was lovely and the atmosphere was so intimate and cute. Lovely for a date if you want to grab a hot choco and small desert. Gave it a 4 just because we bought the chocolate mousse cake and it was a bit on the dry side. I wouldn't buy a birthday cake from here but deff come back for the hot choco.
