Hands down THHHEEE BESST Al Pastor tacos in the city! Heck, dang good tacos in general! They are my favorite and taste so homemade. They are like street style tacos and very close to the real thing you'd find in Mexico. I absolutely love Pata Roja's tacos! Since they have been open at their new pop-up location I eat there at least once a week or once every other week. Yes, they are that good. I first heard about Pata Roja from a friend and she told me about the first pop-up location, so I decided to give them a try. Ever since then I've been hooked. I met Derrick, the owner and head taco master, at his first pop-up. Derrick is super cool and has great customer service. If you didn't know, Derrick is also a co-founder of Mortar. Mortar is a business that helps entrepreneurs lay out the ground work, start and be able to successfully run their businesses. They help with business guidance and resources. Now back to these amazing tacos!
Derrick takes his craft very serious, so much so he went to Mexico for months to learn and study his craft. He wanted Mexican style tacos, so what better way then to study and learn all that you can from the experts themselves. I love, love, love, this about his story and journey. It's so authentic. What I love about Derricks concept is he keeps things simple. His menu is small but the tacos are packed with flavor. He also keeps the ingredients he puts on his tacos minimal. I think that's what I like most about his concept. Three tacos are always offered. Al Pastor is what he is known for and it's amazing! He usually will have one other meat taco (beef or chicken) and a veggie taco. All the tacos include onions, cheese and cilantro and your choice of homemade salsa (optional). Yep that simple. His Bistec Taco (beef) comes with gauc as well. AALLL of his tacos are really good and packed with flavor. I've gone multiple times and it's the same consistent taste every time! He also makes these bomb salsas. It's four and they are all soooo good and each have their own unique flavor. My favorite in order of what I've had from him thus far is as follows: Al Pastor, Veggie (Mushroom and Roasted Squash), Bistec (beef), and Chicken Tinga. I'm a meat kind of girl and his veggie tacos are amazing! Y'all I could go on and on about these tacos. Do yourself a favor and give them a try, just stop by his pop-up on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 pm - Midnight (or sell out). Just be careful, you might become addicted like I am!
