This place in Queenstown is always buzzing with customers, and it’s easy to see why. The food was fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions, making for a satisfying meal. The chocolates and desserts were outstanding — rich, well-made, and clearly crafted with care. On top of that, the amazing view of the surrounding mountains and lake adds a stunning backdrop to the experience, making it even more enjoyable. Although it can get very crowded, the lively atmosphere adds to the charm, and it’s worth the wait if you’re patient. A fantastic spot to enjoy both a meal and some indulgent treats, and one I’d happily return to.

Google
This place is an absolute gem. We came for dessert after dinner and the place was busy. They have got a wide selection of ice cream flavors and so are chocolates. I was attracted to the interesting display of desserts at the counter. I liked the atmosphere of the place and I got myself a hot chocolate to warm myself up as the weather was cold during winter. To my surprise the drink came with a cookie and I loved it. The hot chocolate was rich and creamy and it was one of the best hot chocolate drinks I had ever had. Would love to come back to try more of their desserts one day if I happened to be around.

Google
We stopped by this chocolate shop and decided to try their ice cream—wow, it was amazing! So rich, creamy, and full of flavor. You can really taste the quality of the chocolate in every bite. The shop itself had such a cozy, inviting feel and so many tempting treats to choose from. Definitely a must-visit spot if you have a sweet tooth!

Google
Be ready for a crowd, but also for some seriously good treats 🍦🍫. Patagonia’s ice cream is rich and full of flavour — we tried a few and loved almost every one. The chocolate-dipped cones are a fun touch, though the toppings don’t stick as well as they should, so expect a bit of crumble. Still, with quality like this, it’s easy to see why the place is always buzzing.

Google
Friendly staff and a vast array of sweet treats and chocolates galore. Great offering of ice creams too. Superior hot chocolate if you’re looking for a good one, after many disappointing ones in Queenstown, this was the star of the show.

We visited Patagonia Ice Creamery and had such a great experience. The customer service was excellent – our server was so patient with us while we struggled to decide what to order (so many good options!). It was a busy time when we went, and we waited around 30 minutes for 3 plain churros. Even with the wait, they were absolutely worth it – fresh, hot, and delicious. I’d definitely recommend trying them alongside the ice cream. We ordered cookies and cream as well as their signature Patagonia flavour, and both were incredible. The portions are very generous – one scoop could easily be shared between two people. As you can see in the photo, I couldn’t wait to dig in! Overall, a 10/10 experience for both taste and service. I’d definitely recommend Patagonia Ice Creamery to anyone visiting Queenstown.

One of the sweetest highlights of our New Zealand trip was visiting Patagonia Chocolaterie. From the moment we walked in, the rich aroma of freshly made chocolates and roasted coffee was absolutely irresistible. We tried their handcrafted chocolates, hot chocolate, and a couple of their famous ice cream flavors — and every single item was a delight! The quality and richness of the chocolate is on another level — smooth, indulgent, and clearly made with love. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the entire experience felt like a chocolate lover’s dream come true. Whether you’re into gourmet sweets, gelato, or simply a cozy coffee with a view, Patagonia is a must-visit in New Zealand. We ended up going back more than once — it’s that good !

Google
We visited Patagonia Chocolates for morning tea. It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to do something special. The cafe was very busy and due to a problem with the dishwasher drinks were served in takeaway cups. My husband ordered a berry cheesecake and I had the chocolate mousse. The portion sizes were large and both were delicious. Being very busy, it was hard to find seats, but we didn't have long to wait for our order inspite of it being busy.

Yelp
when you visit queenstown and nearby areas, don't forget to try Patagonia ice cream, just like when you are in italy, don't skip gelato :-) they are soo many flavors to tantalizing your taste buds. this place is 2 story, on the 2nd floor , you can see how they make their pastry. nice view of harbour/ wharf. very nice and clean ice cream place

Yelp
Nothing beats walking around Queenstown with a cup of hot thick chocolate from here. Soooo heart warming! - and not overly sweet too The handmade fudge chocolate / candies were also tasty! We just loved them. Very creamy, melt in your mouth, and nutty.

Yelp
I've been seeing so many people go here and I saw online that this is one of the must try places in Queenstown. At first, I thought that this place was just one of those overhyped tourist attractions but I was in for a surprise. We got the mascarpone berry flavor along with the white chocolate hazelnut and they were both amazing! I don't even know which one I like more! We were able to grab a seat upstairs overlooking the water so we got to relax while admiring the beautiful view. It seemed like they didn't have enough staff to get the place super clean all the time but I'll still give this place 5 stars coz their ice cream is good!

Yelp
We had dessert and coffee there. The desserts were all so pretty to look at, making it difficult to choose just one to try. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and courteous. We sat upstairs and there the view was great. You could see the lake, mountains, or even just people watching.
google avatar

Yelp
This is probably number one gelato spot that we've been to in Queenstown. Mrs Ferg gelato with probably tie it for first. Don't be dissuaded by you long line that runs up the stairs. The line moves pretty quickly. They allow samples here and you can have two. Good luck deciding because they have a very large number of flavors.

Yelp
Beautiful shop with amazing ice cream flavors. they are right beside queenstown water front downtown. I love their dark chocolate icecream, but the ice cream bars looked pretty amazing too, they can add syrup and sprinkles/nuts if u desire.

Yelp
Loved this place . It has a wonderful ambience and such amazing sweets on display . I had the tramonta ice cream and it was fabulous . The service was also quick .

Yelp
Oh man. Definitely a 5 star view when you get up to the 2nd floor. The ice cream was amazing. Got mascarpone and another flavor that I forgot but both were delicious! The service was great as well. You do get to try out the flavors before ordering if you would like.

Yelp
We were craving something sweet after lunch so headed here for some ice cream. It was pretty packed on a weekday afternoon but the line moved quickly. Mascarpone cheese and fruits of the forest [3/5]: just got 1 scoop of this but it was too sweet for my liking after the first couple bites. Coconut stracciatella [4.5/5]: definitely my favorite out of the 3 we tried. Coconut flavor went surprisingly well with the chocolate chips. Not too sweet and coconut flavor was pretty light. Coffee & cream [4/5]: pretty solid coffee ice cream Cute ice cream shop! I like how they have a variety of other sweets like ice cream bars, chocolate, coffee, cakes, and other pastries if you're not particularly craving ice cream.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty solid! The ice cream was good, my only complaint is the line is so long that they take your order before you get to the counter to see all the options. Made it hard to choose. We weren't able to sit inside, but it looked like the vibes were good if you could get a table.

Yelp
All I can say is WOW to this ice cream shop. We were in Queenstown for 3 days and stopped here twice. The ice cream is amazing. We had the Hokey Pokey and the Cookies and Cream. The Waffle cones are fresh. The best part, is they have a chocolate fountain (dark, milk, and white) that you can request your waffle cone be dipped in. Life changing!! The service is really quick for how busy this place is. The overall atmosphere is perfect for going in and grabbing a cone. This is a must stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
This ice cream shop is more of a tourist trap than I thought. Don't get hoodwinked into going here like I did by seeing the long line of customers. Their ice cream is quite mediocre. In particular, I didn't like how loose the ice cream was. It was like I was eating a milkshake. They need to lower the temperature of their ice cream so it's thick enough to be enjoyed as actual ice cream. Secondly, the employees are disorderly when it comes to servicing the long line. The woman (with a Santa hat) who initially provided us with a sample immediately disappeared to work on some other task, leaving us without an attendant. We were waiting essentially by the cashier as others behind us got served. Finally I got the attention of a guy (with earrings and a red bow) who thought we cut the line. As I was explaining what happened, the original woman reappeared but had moved on to something else. I literally told him she's right there next to you...she'll tell you she already gave us a sample. For whatever reason they didn't communicate but he went ahead proceeded to fulfill our order. Regardless, I didn't appreciate the lack of communication and organization from the staff. Overall, I think this place is very overrated and hope people consider other ice cream shops in the area instead. Also, I think it's a safety hazard for the line to work its way up the internal staircase they have so they may want to change where the queue lengthens to prevent someone from accidentally falling down the stairs. Lastly, they should change their physical menus that customers can look at while in line so that they can see images of the ice cream flavors, not just the names. Customers like to be able to actually see the ice cream flavors before deciding on which to order but unfortunately the staff herds customers like cattle once they get to the ice cream cases.

Yelp
I've been here countless times. I've gotten the volcano pudding, chocolate Ice cream, hot chocolate, a banana and ganache crepe, iced chocolate, and the mousse cake. The hot chocolate is a safe and fantastic choice. Way better than most any other hot chocolate I can remember having. Rich and thick, but not overwhelmingly sweet. Sometimes the line is quite long, but a lot of the time the line is for ice cream so if you're looking for something other than ice cream I recommend heading straight to the register! It's a beautiful place with delicious chocolate.

Yelp
This is probably one of the best ice cream I had ever, hands down!!!!! The place is super nice and they have a variety of different dessert such as cakes, chocolate, ice cream bars and dipping station as well as gelato. You can sample as many as you want and they are very generous when it comes to sampling. I tried the marscapone cheese, the hokey pokey and hazelnut and the basil+orange. I immediately fell in love with the hokey pokey and the basil + orange. However, given how big their portion of sampling is, I knew that I wouldn't be able to get a double scoop. I opt for a kid scoop in a cone instead and boy did I made the right decision. Their kid scone was big! I got the basil and orange and it was sooooo good. You can taste the basil with a hint of orange in it. And OMG, the cone, it's probably the best cone ever. It was fresh, crunchy and flavorful, and guess what???? There's a nice surprise at the bottom of the cone that unexpectedly gives a nice finishing touch to the end of the ice cream. Price is very reasonable and I wish I can come back again and again and again. Another must visit place in Queenstown!!

Yelp
The best HOT CHOCOLATE! Much creamier than most I drank in NZ and in the states. And it's not too sweet too. Wish I gone there the first night and not the last because I would have gone every day. I also got a slice of the passion fruit cheese cake. It's huge and very soft. I wish I had room for ice cream too because that line is long. I bet it's good.

Yelp
Really good desserts and ice cream! I came here during my Queenstown trip, and ordered the dessert shown below, and also had tea, a macaroon and a chocolate slice. The dessert was absolutely delicious, a melt in the mouth sort of thing and it goes really well with the ice cream! The tea is also nice and warm. I also enjoyed the chocolate slice and a macaroon, both of which were delicious and were very nicely done! The staff were also nice and helpful when it comes to ordering, the helped me decide which dessert I wanted. Definitely recommended for anyone who comes to Queenstown.

Yelp
I literally came here ever single day I was in Queenstown. I had to try everything here as much as possible! When you first walk into the store, the place looks fantastic - very sophisticated but also extremely delicious. Their store has a variety of treats to get from chocolate, truffles, ice cream, gelato, and even drinks like coffee or hot chocolate. As always, whenever there's hot choclate on the menu, it's a must try, especially from a place that specializes in chocolate! I have to say I'm really glad they had plenty of dairy-free milk options. The hot chocolate took me back to the cold rainy days where I got to stay in bed all day watching Disney movies. It was amazing! For the ice cream, you can sample anything you like and their flavors are all very flavorful. Definitely do this before settling on one flavor! The sorbets were my favorite. By far, the lemon and boysenberry, strawberry & apple sorbet combination was my favorite. Rich in flavor and it hits the spot for dessert craving!

Yelp
If you are lactose intolerant, I'd probably stay away. If you're semi-lactose intolerant, maybe you'd be fine but don't get the cream with strawberries. The flavors are good and they have a wide assortment of chocolates for purchase/gifting. Additionally, they have more seating upstairs with a lovely view of the pier. Plus free WiFi! It's not the greatest signal but it's something. If this one is too busy, there's another location minutes away by foot.
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
What a treat!!! Like a modern old fashioned creamery with a huge menu! Love that you can have ice cream and a choice of fountains to pour scrumptious chocolate on top of a creation and it hardened! Desserts, late night, music, daytime... anytime is the perfect time for ice cream!
google avatar

Yelp
A refreshing stop on a hot day, the ice cream and chocolate shop is located right down by the lake at the end of the mall and serves a variety of creamy flavors of ice cream as well as chocolates and other sweets. We popped in after a stroll along the lake on a very warm January day for some ice cream. They have quite a few flavor so if choosing is a challenge, they will let you have a taste before you commit. In addition to cups or cones, you can have a squirt of molten chocolate on the top for just NZ$1 more. I tried Hokey Pokey (creamy vanilla with small pea sized bits of spun sugar) and my wife got something swirled with mixed berries. A single scoop was quite large (more like a double in the US) and cost NZ$5. My wife couldn't even finish hers. The cones are the hand-made waffle style and were fresh and crispy. They had plenty of help so even though there was a line, things moved quickly and the quality of the product was very good. With so many great and unique flavors, I wouldn't be surprised to pop in there again soon.

Yelp
A hip palce.for coffee and ice cream and to satisfy the sweet tooth. Service is quick and friendly. They have free Wi-Fi. Giving it a five star. It was not a disappointment.
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
It's been a while since good ice cream has come around with all the gelato craze. The ice cream here is flavorful and rich without being too sweet. The waffle cones are crisp and taste freshly made as well.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
I'm unsure how many times we came here, but at least once a day during our stay. It's basically the most recognizable landmark in town, right by the pier and statue. The ice cream and chocolates are great and you can sit and overlook the water from the second floor. There is also a travel agency to book your local expeditions in the store itself.
google avatar

Diane W.

Yelp
Our first visit was during a food tour and we had chocolate mousse with strawberries, raspberry sorbet and a chocolate truffle. All were excellent - fresh and flavorful. The second and third visits (LOL), were for the ice cream. It was excellent. I tried the dipped sugar cone but felt the warm chocolate made the cone a little soft and started the ice cream melting too quickly. If you want to sit down, there are a number of seats upstairs; you'll have a great view of the lake.
google avatar

Serena W.

Yelp
Thought I'd love this place but it was just all right. Tried several inventive flavors and was surprised to not like them and settled with the raspberry sorbet ina waffle cone. Hoped it would be like Salt and Straw in Portland, OR or Jeni's in Columbus, OH but it missed the mark. Heads up if you order a milkshake - the milkshakes are not as thick or creamy here in NZ! And you may need to wait a long time for it.

Yelp
Perhaps one of the best ice creams you can have while in New Zealand, Patagonia is a must stop while in New Zealand. Because its near the Queenstown gardens and waterfront, it's seated in a prime location. The ice cream scoops that they give you is so large it's inevitable to lick everything to avoid melting. Yet it's so creamy and delicious, you can thank the best diaries of New Zealand for that. You don't need 2 scoops, just get one for dessert. Or hell with lunch or dinner, just get 2 scoops and you're on your way to feeling complete. But Be careful though to protect your ice cream because there are criminals nearby trying to steal it. I'm talking about the birds that's nearby the waterfront. Don't feed them though because you might unintentionally get a flock of seabirds wanting a piece. I'm not saying I have done but I've seen other tourist that have lol. Enjoy!
google avatar

Kenzie M.

Yelp
The ice cream and sweet treats at Patagonia are absolutely delectable. I sampled several different ice creams before settling on the coffee flavor. Each ice cream was creamy and had a full and rich mouthfeel. Furthermore, Patagonia has a great location right near the water in the city. The shop has a variety of chocolates and beverages to choose from-- if you have a sweet tooth, Patagonia is the place for you.
google avatar

Rupal R.

Yelp
If you have a sweet tooth, this is your Disneyland! :) Amazing variety of desserts and ice creams! Would love to stop by again if I'm in town. Highly recommended!

Isla F.

Yelp
Ice cream was only ok. But the service was terrible. The staff used to be friendly here but now they seem angry to have customers. Wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
Every one will be amazed by this cool&pretty store walking by and walking in. Full of Ice cream and Sorbet selections, purely made in New Zealand. And also the tempting Gelato sticks and DIY your own style of gelato stick for fun. We chose the banana split and the fig pistachio for a try with the core. Both of the flavours are authentic and creamy, with a hint of fruit&nutty aftertaste. There is also typical thick chocolate drink on the menu for you to indulge yourself and some sweet treats offered on the plate. Do try the lemon meringue pie and the Paris Brest for a surprise. Relaxed, at ease and be inspired with loads of flavour, enjoy Patagonia chocolatier in the centre of Queenstown by the lake.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
This cafe offers free WiFi, which I appreciated being an international tourist. The ice creams are absolutely delicious and rich in flavor and very creamy. I also had the churros with chocolate sauce (heated hazelnut spread) which were great, but I did have to wait a while for them to be prepared, perhaps because they are made fresh to order. They were also not your typical churros coated in cinnamon sugar, these were plain but still very crispy and tasty with the dipping sauce. There is usually a little bit of a line here I noticed, especially in the evenings. Mellow music plays in the background and I would highly recommend enjoying your dessert upstairs where there is a large glass wall with an amazing view of the boardwalk and mountains.
google avatar

Daisy K.

Yelp
Very cute place right by the lake front. A bit pricey, but to be expected for this area. A huge assortment of gelato, locally made chocolates and extravagant pastries. They also have smoothies and milkshakes if you're not looking for anything super sweet. Come by after dinner for some dessert.

Dishi P.

Yelp
Must try for desserts, chocolates and fresh juices. Queenstown location has two stories and top story has lounge facing the lake. This location has such a great variety of scrumptious desserts-I challenge you to come out of store without falling for one. My husband is on top of his mood to find his morning latte and fresh juice at Queenstown ,arrow town and Wanaka locations during our 5day trip.
google avatar

Ryan I.

Yelp
Ordered gelato with two scoops, one scoop of Dark Chocolate and another of Dulce de Lethe. The serving size was generous. The waffle cones are made fresh daily and have a wonderful chocolate treat at the bottom to prevent losing any precious ice cream goodness. They have seating inside and outside right in the heart of the local quay. It is also a good place to use the restroom as the nearby public restrooms are always backed up with a long queue.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Oh My God!!! This was amazing ice cream. I had the caramel and vanilla in a cone and my husband had a strawberry shake. My cone was light and didn't distract from the incredible ice cream and my hubby said his milkshake was GREAT! Just go there. Period. Full stop.
google avatar

Ragad G.

Yelp
Ok. So I'm vey picky once it comes to ice cream. Tried a couple of flavors including the hokey pokey (which was good but not great) and then bam! I found the perfect one. It goes by the name Tramontana. And it was tra-riffic! Creamy vanilla with chunks of caramelized goodness. Ordered it on top of a crepe and enjoyed every bit of it. Will definitely visit again and order it in a sugar cone because you can never go wrong with a combination such as this one.
google avatar

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
Choice of gelato sticks or in a cone or in a cup with a huge assortment of gelato. I got the chocolate and pistachio which was delicious. I recommend going upstairs where you have a great view of the lake. The boxes of chocolate though I thought were bit too expensive.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
The mascarpone cheese and fruit flavored ice cream was delicious. This shop has one of the best locations--lakeside. Their 2nd floor offers great views. I don't think their WiFi was working or if it was offered at all. They have a punch loyalty card if you plan on coming in a big group, or coming multiple times. Menu includes coffee drinks, customizable ice cream bars, and petit cakes and other desserts.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
The ice cream was okay, nothing special for the price. The ambience is nice though and there are plenty of tables outside
google avatar

Craig J.

Yelp
Delicious flavours and generous portions. Great spot to grab a seat, or sit on the stone stairs right by the lake edge. Incomparable views. Recommended.

P R.

Yelp
Wow! The dessert are fabulous! The place is really cute and right in the middle of town! Great location!

Jim G.

Yelp
Ice cream here is wonderful and reasonably priced. Sit outside and listen to the street musicians.
