I honestly don’t understand how this place has 4.5 stars. The food was average at best, and the service—while friendly enough, especially with our son—didn’t make up for the rest of the experience.
First, we asked for lobster and were told that in Costa Rica, lobster is “at risk of extinction,” so they don’t sell it. That explanation felt more like a story than the truth—if that’s the case, tell it to someone else.
Several locals told me this restaurant is one of the few in the area, so the prices are exorbitant. Sure enough, kids’ pasta (overly salty), two drinks, and two adult dinners came to $147—and the food wasn’t even good. I’ve eaten at several other local spots here that serve delicious, homey food for about a third of the price.
Charging $11 for a bottle of sparkling water is exactly the kind of thing that drives tourists away. Between the inflated prices, mediocre food, and questionable explanations, this is why my rating is only 1–2 stars. And please—don’t tell customers lobster is at risk for extinction if that’s not the real reason you’re not serving it.
