Women Who Travel Podcast: How to Get Out Into the Wilderness This Summer

"A remote and rugged national park located in Chile's Aysén region, known for its stunning landscapes including mountains, ice fields, glaciers, and grasslands. It's less traveled and offers a backcountry experience supported by local gauchos."

Go here before the world finds out about this place. Thank you Tompkin's for making this park happen and donating it to Chile. We backpacked for 4 days with an outstanding experience. Highly recommend.

Compared to Torres del Paine and El Chalten, this national park is not touristic at all. We hiked and didn't see anybody else. Beautiful nature and a lot of wildlife! We did a 3 week roadtrip from Bariloche to Ushuaia and this was the absolute highlight.

The nature is beautiful but I was disappointed that conaf was not yet in the park to provide information on a Tuesday beginning early Oct'24. We could still do the short trails from visitor center but we're very disappointed that no information about closed trails was provided online.

The park is a well done project specially by restoring biodiversity. Perhaps one of the most beautiful parks I have visited in South America! The route to the park is like a dream with herd of guanacos (camelids), condors taking sunbath onto the peaks of the mountains and some flying masterfully the skies, the golden grass and wildflowers all made the landscape breathtakingly. We drove from Cochrane through the Carretera Austral, lucky us that it was Friday (Dec. 10, 2022) because every Wednesday there is road maintenance from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (see picture of the announcement)

One of the best parks I've been to. Definitely visit the Museum is Valle Chacabuco, life changing. We saw Pumas there!

Fabulous park. We did 2 day walks and hardly saw anyone other than lots of guanacos 😂. Scenery stunning and most times all to yourself. Would have given 5 stars but it seems on Mondays the information centre which provides all details on walks plus the museum is closed! Hard to believe in the middle of summer.

If you opt for the ferry, you will miss one of the most remarkable places I have ever been to.

We visited the Patagonia National Park, cycling through the Valle de Chacabuco on the Chile'side. We met lots of guanacos. When you enter the park, it feels like you're entering a new world, it's totally different from the Carretera Austral. Totally worth the $8400pp.
