So far I have tried about 5 things on the menu. The steak sandwich has been the best so far. The grilled items have a pretty inconsistent taste, but decent. The shrimp has been overcooked each time I tried it so I wouldn’t recommend it. Everything tastes pretty decent. Everyone is kind and attentive. The place is a little tight, but accessible and it seems accommodating.

I recently moved to the area and love this place! The tables and inside seating are super clean and comfortable. You can tell the owner takes pride in their business. The food is among the best of Chicago street food places and the prices are lower than most. 5 stars all the way!!!

Andi Kowalski

Google
It's just the BEST hot dog joint in the city! Excellent service, friendly faces, reasonable prices, and a parking lot! Chicago style dogs!

I came in and the tables were all dirty so I asked someone to clean it. As a customer coming into an established good restaurant the tables should always be clean as soon as people are done eating. I had a beef sandwich and since the owner retired not sure if the recipe changed but the quality wasn't as good.

8/2021 Was here 4 years ago. Ok if it is another 4 years. Food was tasty. That was the saving grace. But the size of my corned beef sandwich was insane! And no hot mustard? Really? Onion rings were good. Pickle was just ok. Not much of a pickle here either. They should advertise that the sandwich fits in the palm of your hand!

Google
Awesome place. It's a family ran business. They provide a friendly / welcoming atmosphere. Great food as well. I've been going there probably since 1979 / 1980. I've never had a bad experience there. No food, good people. I have no complaints. You should definitely check this restaurant out.

Fast service! Food cooked to order. Fresh! Dine inside or at outdoor (enclosed) patio.

Google
They recently changed owners and the guy who bought it seems like a stand-up guy. I was really happy for him when I heard the news. Sadly, the people he has brought with him are horrible. The tubby woman as the register is always rude and annoyed to be there. She matches the new oppressive red paint on the walls. The food is more or less the same except it takes a bit longer to get to you. That is negligible, but the women you have to interface with have killed the experience for me and my wife. It's enough to stop being a patron. Bummed I need to find a new hotdog spot. I've been going here for years but not anymore

Yelp
We came here and ordered chicken sandwiches and an Italian beef. While the beef was good, we both got severe food poisoning from the chicken sandwiches. Never going back.

Yelp
This place has been here forever, and it has not changed. I love it. Absolutely no-frills Italian beef and gyro that are delicious. Old-school Chicago meat at its finest.

Yelp
Good burger joint. I love the chop steaks. Reasonable prices. I just wished they delivered.

Yelp
Tried (many many times) and True. Italian, sweet only, extra juice-- extra napkins. Always when I visit Chicago. Support your local family owned sammy shop to keep Chicago Chicago.

Yelp
I've been going here for years, but today was the first time we went under the new ownership. Hamburgers were delicious as always, but the fries were cold, soggy and lacked crispness. They obviously were not fresh. With the new owners, please don't start to cut corners, People notice.

Yelp
I love this place. Cheap prices and good food make this a regular lunch place for me. The staff is always super nice, and I love the decor here, it's so cozy americana. Can't recommend coming by here enough!

Yelp
Been there 1000 of times, great food, friendly service. Was told stI'll same after new owners took over

Yelp
Have been going to this place since I was a kid and for years they were great, but ever since COVID they lost flavor, size and quality of the food while increasing prices. This began before it was sold to the current owner, but he unfortunately continues the disappointment. My last order was a Gyro Plate W/everything (meat was very low quality) no peppers, smaller pita and also bought a 1/4 pound cheeseburger that was also comparatively smaller than they used to serve. Sad just like @moodyspub down the street, the prices increased while the quality, portions and flavor have disappeared. This is just an FYI see for yourself. I def will not be going to either place. Sad sad sad...

Yelp
Patio Beef is a casual beef/hot dog stop in Edgewater - Chicago magazine described it as "invitingly ungreasy" and indeed it was a very clean place. There's a large take out space, an enclosed patio and a relatively small dine in space. Plus, a parking lot! The menu offers up all the standards - gyros, burgers, dogs and beef. Food is reasonably priced and comes up fast. At first glance I wasn't thrilled - the misters dogs were, shall we say, not very appetizing looking (a cheese dog here is a Kraft single wrapped around the hot dog) but he said they were excellent. I was concerned my beef was going to be dry because I saw no evidence of gravy, but again appearances aren't everything. It was a solid beef, not dry but not overly messy - and they use great bread that holds up. Staff are very nice and keep things tidy. Cheap, filling, tasty, parking lot. What more do you need?

Yelp
Everything here is delicious no matter what you order I used to eat here all of the time when I lived in Chicago. My grandfather and I used to love the soup of the day! A great family owned business! So happy to see that it is still around and hope to be back in Chicago one of these days a definite stop to make! Best pizza puffs cheeseburgers soup you name it I miss it soooo much!!!

Yelp
Got dinner here on Wednesday. Decided to get the Gyros Plate. Food was good. Everything was fresh including the vegetables. Crispy fries. The amount of gyros meat was on the smaller side compared to other places, but tasted good. Paid around $13 dollars for the meal. Wish they had more ketchup bottles available. They have their own parking lot that they share, so it could get a little tight. Street parking is available though. Friendly service and food was ready quickly. Would come back!

Yelp
I've been going to Patio for over 20 years, so I guess it's time for a review. This is, indeed, a family run business since 1984. The owners are still there most days, but their daughters are running the show now. The quality of the food hasn't changed in all the years I've been going. Consistency is difficult in the restaurant business, but these folks have it down. The burgers, in particular, are the best in town, grilled to perfection every time. The Italian Beef combo is divine... not too salty, just goodness on a roll. If you want duck fat fries and Bleu cheese on a hot dog, go elsewhere. It's a great neighborhood dog and burger joint, and it's a treasure of Edgewater.

Yelp
Chicago style Italian Beef and Chicago style hot dogs served up correctly, authentically, with good service. Clean place, convenient location, good pricing. This place is good.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Their hamburger was amazing, flame broiled close to perfection, great steak fries, nice places to sit, down side they are ungenerous and stingy with gyros meat and beef. In my opinion they aren't as good as hubs or byrons. The burger was better than byrons and hubs though, fries too. Nice looking daughters owners but not super friendly Burr

Yelp
I can't believe I hadn't posted a review for Patio Beef yet! Reliably good food every time. Most of the neighborhood eats here regularly because you walk by and smell those burgers on the grill and then you just have to eat there. (Big hint here: Get the burger special.) Also really great meatball subs. And Greek chicken. And Chicago dogs. And great gyros and spinach pie. Get extra tzatziki for the fries. A couple of years ago I did a scientific sampling of (almost) all the Italian beefs in the city, and Patio Beef was right on top of the list. Order it dipped with sweet and hot peppers. The family that runs this place could not be nicer. I spent like two years asking for "crazy fries" because I apparently misread "Cajun fries" on the menu. They always gave me the Cajun fries and never told me I was an idiot. I used to bring a lady with intellectual disabilities here for lunch and the mom of family that runs the place used to go out of her way to find the shiniest coins to give her when she made change. Totally made it a special outing. I cannot think of a better place with better karma to buy your dinner.

Yelp
Great neighborhood fixture for many years. Friendly owners and employees. I have recommended them to several friends who live outside the Edgewater community.

Yelp
I've lived on and off in this area for a LONG time...and Patio Beef is a STAPLE of this community. Even if it's not actually family owned (I'm not sure either way..) it feels family owned and operated. They are salt of the earth people just making some of your favorite Chicago staples at decent and affordable prices. The service by the counter staff is like a neighborhood place should be. They are kind and they interact with their guests, All of them equally and with genuine care. I'm not a super regular there but they always seem to recognize me and they will always help me decide on what I really want to eat.. Whether it's a fully loaded Gyro or the Gyro Plate their daily specials, an Italian Sausage or the Chicago staple Pizza Puff..this place has everything you need for an authentic Chicago vibe. You're gonna pay some of the better prices in Chicago too..there's some places where the price is gonna make you question your sanity but not here, not with Patio. Go here, it's great.

Yelp
Ohh Patio Beef how you have changed my life forever. I yearn for the day we will meet again. Your meat was meant to be a big beefy part of my life. Your slow cooked Italian beef sausage with gravy drips down my soul and raises me up to a place I have never been before. You are an urban legend that has transcended through time, imprinting your glorious roasts though the continuum of space and will forever be the place I forever cherish our memories together.

Yelp
The late, great Anthony Bourdain once said that the Italian beef sandwich is a better representative of Chicago than the deep dish pizza. I dare not object to the musings of my idol; the Italian beef is a must-devour item when visiting the Windy City. Sure, there's Al's and Portillo's, but with all due respect to those fine chain establishments, the best beef are found in mom and pop places like Patio Beef. About an hour after I finished telecommuting for work, I decided to explore my cousin's North Side neighborhood. As I turned on to Broadway, I developed a hankering for Chi-Town's signature sandwich. That was when I walked towards Patio Beef. When ordering a beef, I utter three words: hot, sweet and wet. That's a beef loaded with hot and sweet peppers and dipped in the meat's gravy. Almost three years have passed since the last time I had my favorite sandwich in the world. Sinking my teeth, the quick burst of heat from the peppers and the nice juiciness of the beef welcomed me back like a long-lost friend. I commend Patio Beef for ensuring that the everything was fresh and my order didn't fall apart. I figuratively patted myself on the back for coming here. For those who get iced tea while dining in, don't feel embarrassed to get refills. There's also autographed pictures of celebrities who ate here, from newscasters to pro athletes. Simply put, if this place could wow them then why not the average person?

Yelp
I ate 5 of the top rated Chicago dogs on my visit. Id put this at #3. It's totally exactly what you're expecting from a Chicago dog.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. I typically get a combo sandwich with fries. My girlfriend has had a couple of other items. They've all been good. This place is convenient, tasty, and a good value.

Yelp
Patio Beef is a Chicago staple! Personally, it brings back childhood memories. The food has always been delicious and the service is friendly. The parking lot it certainly tight, but it's worth it.

Tony B.

Yelp
I'm new to the neighborhood and decided to give these guys a try. I ordered a hot dog with fries and an Italian beef sandwich. The dog, fries and beef were all excellent. The people behind the counter were very nice and friendly as well. Although I did take out, they appear to have adequate seating both inside and out, and the whole place looked very clean and orderly. I'll be back!

Brit C.

Yelp
I have been going here for over ten years, and Patio Beef remains a true staple in our community. It's family run, and a true authentic business. The burgers, chicken tenders, and chicken kabobs are the best in town, and the service is top notch. 10/10 I love Patio Beef

Yelp
My family and I have been coming here since this place opened, and every time we come has been great! We got to the point where they know my family when we come in, and always have a pleasant time. Its a cute little Chicago style place. Super nice that it is all family run, and you can tell that they really do put love into their food. At this point, I have tried pretty much everything on the menu, and I really do recommend everything! The portions are very nice, and the food is not expensive at all. If you want a true Chicago meal, come to this place!

Joani O.

Yelp
Excellent food! We tried the gyro and the Chicago-style hot dog and both were very good. They have your usual hot dogs, burgers, chicken, plus they're apparently known for their Italian beef. Hubby and I sat outside on their patio in this beautiful day and enjoyed people watching up and down Broadway in this nice part of Edgewater. We will be back.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
We got the gyro with fries and a soft drink. The gyro was moist and succulent. The pita was crispy and soft. My boyfriend and I enjoyed it very much.
google avatar

Yelp
It's simple and tasty. The Italian beef really hits the spot. Get it dipped and you won't regret it.
google avatar

Colby S.

Yelp
Nice local spot for quick bites. Have had the chicken kebab before and it's a massive serving. Chicago dog and Gyro also look very good!
google avatar

Raina W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for at least 15 years, and I love it! They have the best gyro in the city, bar none! And I've recently discovered that their 1/2 lb cheeseburger is awesome too - forget McDonald's or other fast food spots - definitely come here for your burger craving! It's family run, and they're always friendly and welcoming.

Jacob C.

Yelp
The food was alright nothing crazy I ate an Italian beef. If you live close by check it out fast and cheap.

Yelp
PATIO BEEF - 6022 N Broadway, Chicago, IL, Edgewater, (773) 764-8500 C-19 take out #2: Really wanting a good Chicago Hot Dog soooo both of the Q's had a delicious Hot Dog shared an order of fries from Patio Beef. A good hot dog from Chgo Patio Beef and a Cosmo made at home. Mrs. Q says: Awesome! & Delicious. Due to C-19 - take out # 1- took out two Gyro sandwiches. As always, they were delicious.

Yelp
Friendly people and fantastic food! My go-to spot for Italian beef sandwiches.
google avatar

Yelp
Always find kind people working there. Good comfort food and spacious digs. Easy parking.

Brewster L.

Yelp
Fast service, delicious food at a fair price point. They treat their customers very well.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
A basic little short order joint. I probably won't come back for the dogs, as they were only average. What was delicious here is the Italian Beef - wet! Clean, quick and friendly. Good option for a Chicago style lunch if you're in the area.

Olive S.

Yelp
Unreal. I mean, really unreal! I went expecting beef on the patio, and ended up having just that. Juicy, real juicy flesh. Yeah baby, I can't get enough of that! I love that grease and even sauceless it sent me to meat eater cloud 9. Shoutout to the cows for laying down their lives for my happiness! Can't wait to get back to the patio, wowie wow yeah beefy beef. Chicago!
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
I really love this place. But I won't be coming back. The last time I was there, both cooks were cross contaminating - touching raw food with bare hands and touching everything else. One had his nose sticking over his mask. Someone is going to get sick.

paula h.

Yelp
Got the best burger! I like this place. You can watch CNN and laugh at how left leaning and bias that station is.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Drove by this spot for years before stopping by for an Italian Beef Sandwich. Wish I had done so sooner! Folks from all all persuasions frequent this place for a Chicago Dog or Beef Sandwich. Nice folks, good location and worth a visit. Never disappointed when I stop by for a quick bite!
google avatar

Cait H.

Yelp
Exactly what you think it is. The usual "chicago" diner/grill menu items, made well. Treat yourself to some classics here.
google avatar

Janice J.

Yelp
Love their Italian beef!!! Get it dipped with hot peppers. Fries are good and cheap. Perfect Chicago food!
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
I eat here regularly because it's down the street from my friends house but it's not a particularly good dog stand. The fries suck and they don't steam the buns. I do like the owner though and it's convenient so I keep going back.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
A nice little greasy spoon with friendly folks and decent food. The gyros sandwich and fries were fine, though a few more fries would've been appreciated. Add a drink, and the total was over $11--a tad on the pricey side compared to other short order places I've eaten in.
google avatar

Kenya T.

Yelp
No frills and no glam, but this place doesn't need it. I ordered a cheese burger with bacon and a side of fries. The woman working the register was very pleasant and aided my brother, who was unsure what to order. Our food was ready within about 10 minutes, and I was a little concerned that my burger would be lifeless and dry and that my fries would slump when picked up. I was pleasantly surprised! My food was piping hot, and my burger was juicy. The fries weren't as crunchy as I like, but that could be a matter of preference. Not the best burger in the world, but it will get the job done and satisfy any cravings. I will go back!
google avatar

Mitchell H.

Yelp
Best hotdog/beef stand on the far north side. Super friendly folks too. Always my go-to spot when in the. Mood for a burger, beef or dog.
google avatar

Nate N.

Yelp
We were in a Portillos mood but since none are close yelp suggested this spot which had good reviews. A got a meatball sandwich special "hot" which indeed it was topped w giardiniera. My girl got an Italian Beef dipped. For some reason it's not fully dipped in au jus like portillo's does but it was good nonetheless. The greatest discovery here was the CHEESE FRIES. It's a nacho cheese flavor that's exceptionally tasty and we thought it'd be wise of the business to advertise a side of cheese on the menu as we had to ask if they had it. The fries too were exceptional making it a notable secret combo!
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
If you want to leave hungry make sure you stop in!!! Portions are awful and if you order fries and a drink you're looking at about a $12 bill. Many other options around the area that will fill your plate and make sure you don't leave hungry.
