Patios de San Basilio

Fun, easy to visit various patios that the homeowners have taken meticulous care to make them so beautiful. We did not do an apparent formal tour with tickets. Instead, we opted to just enter 3-4 of the patios on our own. Each patios had a small donation box and we just dropped in some change as everyone else apparently does.

Cordoba is famous not only for its Mesquita or Alcazar but also and maybe not less for its wonderful and unique Patios. These are among the main attractions in Cordoba, not to be missed (Fomo you know). The only problem is that the people living there often demand a fee for visiting their place and that they are not always nice. A fee is legitimate of course, but then shouldn't they let us know that before we enter and visit, and let us decide whether the visit is worth the price they demand. Awkward and unpleasant situations could be then avoided. Be aware that houses that should be opened during the published opening hours are not always...opened Still, absolutely beautiful to see and must be visited.

These aren't the famous patios, but they really should be more well known! They're gorgeous in spring, but even visiting in October showed that they are an absolutely year round beauty. They're free to enter and an informative person will be there to explain their history and significance. It's worth a visit just to smell the hundreds of flowers.

A collection of 5 patios in the San Basilio district of Cordoba. One ticket gets you into all 5. It's about an hours walk around all 5. We visited in early April, so it was mostly geraniums, butbthey were all in bloom and well tended. There was a definite sense of pride in all the owners. There are other patios in the district which in essence is 5 or 6 intersecting streets and squares. These patios are open for a separate voluntary donation. Very enjoyable. If you fancy lunch, we'd highly recommend the Puerta Sevilla restaurant in the middle of the districts. Look out for the statue,more of an art installation that has an old man passing a plant pot to a boy who is up a ladder tending a wall of geraniums. If you like this statue check out the one at Plaza Puerta del Rincon. It's a 30 minute walk away, but equally as lovely. A woman watering flowers.

Patios in Córdoba are amazing even off season. Definitely worth your time in Córdoba. Relaxing activity for the whole family.

Nice walk with a lot to see. Small contribution asked by owners of the houses. Walk and then sit for a beer or wine.

So much effort were put into these patios! Beautiful and unique in every ways. A must visit!
