Rick Steves latest tour book on Belgium recommended The Hotel Patritius. It was located just blocks from Burge Square. This 1830s renovated mansion, had small rooms that were clean and in an acceptable condition. The dozen or so ancient steps to the entrance were as steep as the trails to the top of Kilimanjaro, with no handrails for safety which would be beneficial when carrying luggage. The Courtyard appeared unkept and a little trashy for early spring. Rick Steves may find Europeans charming when somewhat rude. I do not! Whom, I believe to be the female owner, in my opinion, was unfriendly and unwelcoming. In addition, I was reprimanded by her for entering and exploring the dining room area to determine what may be available for me during my stay here. I would have appreciated a price list for items left in my room, which I may have construed as complimentary or that I would have been charged for by this establishment. For example, water, coffee single-serve pods, use of the kettle and even a small bag of potato chips. Thank goodness the Staff did not leave any mints on the two small pillows provided each night at a fee. This and the rudeness effected my experience and my overall impression of my stay here. Please note that like some European Hotels, wash clothes were not provided for me. I am certain you could request them for a fee.|The Black Swan is next door and gorgeous. The Duke’s Palace is down the street with a lovely bar and lobby. The Crown Plaza also has an excellent location. I just would not recommend staying here.
