Pat’s Barbecue

Hi I moved here from Texas 8 years ago. Barbecue in Texas is like nothing else you've ever tasted. We have been on a hunt For barbecue that comes close. Walking in the smell was on par with Texas barbecue places! I would say the brisket here comes pretty close. It is seasoned well and flavorful without sauce. I do eat slow and so my brisket got cold by the end of my meal which was unfortunate. My favorite barbecue joint in Texas is the salt lick. Texas always does it bigger and better. Some things they were lacking here was endless beans, Texas toast, and pickles and onions to give you that fresh flavor every bite. I didn't love the macaroni. It lacks some seasonings. But adding the sauces into the macaroni, both the spicy and the mild took it to that flavor it should have had in the beginning. The cornbread was a nice touch. It was moist and flavorful. Some of the best cornbread I've ever eaten. Even stayed moist on the drive home. The beans were very delicious. Flavor was top notch. I just missed the endless beans that Texas was known for. I'll have to try the sausage the next time I come. Another favorite at barbecue joints is turkey. So we'll see. You're not out of the running yet. The atmosphere and service was five stars for sure! Makes you back to the South where the tables are long and people become mates just sitting next to each other.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! All caps because it was so terrible! No service, which I can understand she was busy but it doesn't justify not being friendly with your table after waiting a long time to order and another 25min for food which was sooo COLD! I ordered the 2 meat platter: brisket, pull pork, coleslaw, corn bread and sweet potatoes fried. Everything was so cold I think the coleslaw was warmer than anything else... Been there a few years ago and I remembered being good so for sure they lost their standards .. don't understand the waiting for a table to eat there when it's not worth it!! Never going back or recommend it to anyone.. The restaurant look okay I guess that's the style when they opened but not really god for nowadays.. needs a little love for sure. They have life music and maybe that's why people go there don't know

Food was good! But the meat was dry. Seemed like it was cut and sitting there for a while before serving. Still tasted good but not a fan of how dry it was. I got the pulled pork and the brisket. Corn bread wasn't buttery. Mac didnt taste like anything, definitely missing seasoning. I tried the sausage off my friends plate and that was actually amazing. And her ribs were amazing as well, fell right off the bone.

this BBQ joint is absolutely amazing. the building is warm and inviting, with nice decor and painting. the bathrooms are clean, and the tables are well kept. the meats are spectacular, we ordered the family dinner which was an incredible deal. the side of mac n cheese is fire. the food came out within 5 minutes,!-&: would absolutely come again

Got off the plane on a Friday and went straight here for burnt ends. They were already out at 4pm according to the kid that at first said he didn’t know because he had just gotten there. Settled for brisket and sausage. Brisket was dry and lacked flavor. Sausage was average. Red beans and rice were probably the best part and they bordered on bland. I know it’s been a long time since this place was on tv, but they don’t seem to be living up to their reputation.

What a wonderful place. Must of drove past this area a million times and never noticed it. We got in and was served immediately. Seated in one of the many rooms they have.the atmosphere was amazing, unique and very inviting . We decided to eat out side to enjoy the early summer day, glad we did. We got out food promptly and the service was amazing. We did notice they had a stage for live music, so we must go back for that. The air, was totally smokey smelling, like I was in my own backyard smoking meat. The food was amazing. A must try if you like bbq.

Pat’s BBQ in Salt Lake City is easily one of the best barbecue spots I’ve been to. The brisket was amazing—tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Honestly, five out of five stars just for that alone. It was cooked perfectly and had that classic bark on the outside with juicy, melt-in-your-mouth meat inside. The burnt ends were my absolute favorite. They had that perfect combination of crispy edges and tender, flavorful center. I could eat a whole tray of those by themselves. And the cornbread—so good. It was moist, just the right amount of sweet, and worked perfectly with the rest of the meal. Sometimes cornbread is dry or bland, but not here. This one stood out and added to the whole plate. Everything we ordered was amazing. From the meats to the sides, it was clear that this place takes their barbecue seriously. The service was friendly and the vibe was relaxed. I’ll definitely be coming back. If you’re in Salt Lake and love barbecue, Pat’s BBQ is a must-try.

This place is great. I've tried top rated pit BBQ in Texas, and Pat's is at least on par, if not better, in my opinion. The pulled pork comes right off the grill without sauce added, so you get to mix it yourself to your own taste using their house sweet & thin BBQ, spicy & thick BBQ, Carolina mustard, and/or Tabasco hot sauce. I liked my two meat combo with pulled pork and sausage, and my companion liked the pulled pork nachos, then the waitress asked if she wanted all chips, all fries, or half and half... She got half and half, but wished she got all fries!

Delicious food and amazing service! The price was also very affordable for the amount of food that we received. Our server was very nice and attentive!

The food was great and the atmosphere was casual which was perfect for our dining experience. We hosted out of town guests and after they looked it up on the internet and saw the great reviews, they were excited to go. Service was good.

It has been several years since I have been to Pat's. When I worked at the airport I would go.there frequently. The food is still.amazing! The service was fast ans friendly. Some of the best BBQ yiunwill.find in this valley. I highly recommend it. PS. The 4 stars was because they got.my order a.little wrong. No big deal, but not quite 5 star service. Room for improvement.

I've been to many of the BBQ spots available in the area, and I think so far Pat's is the only one I want time back to. The food was great, the sides were great, the sauces were great, the service was great, and it didn't cost a hundred billion dollars. Be aware that there is live music and thus a little loud Thursday Saturday nights. Now the food. Ribs were just the right amount of tender and lots of flavor, the sausage was juicy and smoky and the brisket was tender, juicy, smoky and delicious. The sauces were all great. The baked beans were FANTASTIC and the fries were actually really good, something I feel like most bbq places don't do well. Maybe Pats doesn't live up to the hype that some people think it should, but as far as I'm concerned, it will be the place I choose to come to from now on

Pats bbq was a very mixed experience. They had very quick attentive service; although not the friendliest. Their restaurant layout is pretty interesting where you enter through the back. We were seated next to a sliding barn style door which must have led to some office? Whoever was in there was coughing up their lungs which made the dining experience a bit less pleasant. I had the two meat combo. The brisket left a lot to be desired with it being a bit tough. The kielbasa was fantastic however. The sides were also good. Their special of the day listed corn on the cob but I was informed they do not sell that have that due to price at this time. All in all, I think it was an alright experience. I'd be open to trying more things but probably not brisket again.

I will give this a 5 star but today I bought the half rack and chicken wings and they were just inedible, the food was dry as if it was made days ago, if they are going to sell out food that was made days ago and reheated at least they should give a discount! And this isn't the first time I bought food here, I have been a customer for a while now and is always great bbq, today was just way too dry!

It looks like this USED to be the place, but most of the wonderful reviews are several years old, and my experience from earlier this week was just ok. I attended a group lunch and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans. The meat was plentiful, but pretty flavorless. I added some sauce, but it was really hot-not my favorite. I prefer good flavor to strong heat. My bad, I should have paid better attention to which sauce I was grabbing. The beans were delicious, however. And the service-considering our large sized group-was pretty good. Everyone got their food pretty quickly and their bills at the end. It was probably more of a three-star visit, but I want to err on the side of positivity, so rounded up. But I'm not in a hurry to get back and try the BBQ again.

When you realize you haven't tried any Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in Salt Lake City. Time to change that. Found Pat's BBQ downtown and what a fantastic find for lunch. @guyfieri was definitely right calling them a "culinary gangster". Today's special was burnt ends, just got mine at 12:30 as they ran out after my order. I have never had such tender chunks of Smokey goodness. The portion was huge. Served more like a sliced up pot roast. Meat was the star but the baked beans were a great sidekick with their hearty flavor, mustard forward bite and chunks of meat and peppers. Fantastic meal, served quick and service that did not disappoint. Highly recommended when you are in SLC.

The service here was great. Friendly and quick. At one point we had two servers checking in on our table. The food was ok. I really enjoyed the sausage and fries. The fries were the best part of the meal for me. The chicken, Mac and cheese, and cornbread weren't my favorite. Chicken was a bit dry and the Mac and cornbread lacked flavor. The restaurant is tucked away in South Salt Lake and can be a bit difficult to find. Lots of parking just west of the building in a satellite parking lot.

Food was just ok. Definitely not the same quality you saw on DDD. Mac and cheese was just Mac.. I think they forgot the cheese..Too many options around probably won't be back

When they have live music that is so nice but the food is really not good. Sadly. It has been a long time since I was last there due to a disappointing food experience. I went again last night and the chicken was so dry! Dang it!

Thought we try this B.B.Q place . The Ribs weren't what we expected, they were St.Louis not Baby Backs, they did have good flavor. The Brisket was like rubber not able to eat it,sadly disappointed. The Smoked Brisket French Dip was really good coleslaw was tasty. The service was fast and they were apologetic about the Brisket, they took off the meal from the bill. Great service! The vibe is pretty cool family friendly for those who are wondering . Would go back for a second chance

Always great food and Music on a Friday night. Get there early for the Burnt ends but if not there is plenty to choose from. This is the place you have been looking for. Thank you!

Small portions, food was not "hot" just warm. Way too expensive for what it's worth. They don't seem to have good deals and bang for buck anymore.

Friday night, live music. Pulled pork with coleslaw and the best wings we've ever had--smoky and crispy. Perfect fries with delicious fry sauce. Our food was served so quickly and it was excellent all the way down to beignets for dessert. Pat's Margarita was fantastic as well as the tap IPA. Couldn't ask for a better way to spend Friday night!

Pat sold the business. No more Pat, no more good BBQ. The ribs are now tough and chewy, but completely cooked, just not the right way. Seasoned to cover up the lack of time in smoke. The chicken might have come from Costco. Tasted about the same, but was a bit more dry. Some of Pat's special sides aren't on the menu any more. A sad review to write. Loyal customers since he opened, but now looking elsewhere for our good BBQ.

When another Pat's restaurant opened down the street, I mistakenly thought the Commonwealth location closed. I WAS WRONG! I used to get my Caesars salad from a pizza joint down the street, but they were stingy with their banana peppers even though you paid e tra for them. I googled BEST Caesars salad near me, and PATS BBQ on Commonwealth popped up! Not believing my ears, I followed the GPS to a place I thought was gone. OH MY GOSH!! SAME AWESOME ATMOSPHERE!! That day, I got my salad to go. I went in for a Caesars salad last night, and not only can I have it with chicken (as usual), I can ENJOY brisket, or pork or jackfruit! They make a great Caesars dressing. I like lots of parmesan cheese please. The atmosphere is still great. They offer live music. The act last night was a bluesy guitarist. He was good. Music starts at 6:00. I also had the coleslaw cuz what is BBQ without coleslaw? It went great with my salad. The brisket was great. A nice portion with the salad. They were bite size, not too small, but still a good bite. Next time, I plan to try the jackfruit.

I'm a big fan of excellent BBQ - I've eaten it from the Carolinas to St. Louis and everywhere in between, and I'm pleased to report that Pat's ranks up there with the best BBQ joints I've been to thus far. Tip: Pat's BBQ is slightly off the beaten path; it's situated in a quiet neighborhood and not all that easy to find, but the quality of their food makes it well worth hunting for ;-) When we arrived we were warmly greeted and then seated on the patio without a wait.  They took our drink orders and helped us figure out our BBQ order.  The food arrived quickly; and we were immediately transported to BBQ Heaven!  Everything we ordered on that first visit was excellent, but two things stick out in my memory most strongly - the Pulled Pork and the Brisket. The Pulled Pork was made with an outstanding rub that had a crispy char and just the right amount of smoke; not overpowering, but delicious and subtle.  The Brisket was melt-in-your mouth tender, and seasoned to perfection.  Each table was equipped with your choice of two different sauces; one St. Louis style that's sweet and mild, and the other one Carolina style with a healthy kick to it.  Both sauces are outstanding! The dining area is equipped with picnic style tables, their patio in particular is an outstanding place to eat some quality BBQ - highly recommended!

This meal was so disappointing. I am a native Texan and was very hopefully to find something similar to bbq back home. The Mac n cheese was not appetizing and had an odd texture and flavor- not cheese. The sausage tasted like It came out of a package. And the brisket was so incredibly dry it resembled jerky- not an exaggeration. I thought about taking it home to my dogs but the dry rub was so overdone, probably to hide how poorly it was cooked. The potato salad was fine and the smoked chicken decent. Would absolutely never come back.

Great food We waited nearly 15 mins for a table for 2. There was 2 large groups for lunch so the service is was great.

Pat's is great and probably the best BBQ in that area. The atmosphere is your basic BBQ type of experience with picnic tables and plenty of room. They have a lot of great sauces to choose from and our service was great and left us wanting to come back!

Went to eat there last night, was craving BBQ and I was very disappointed. Ribs and Brisket were very dry and also the corn bread. The only thing good about my meal was the collards greens, beans and potatoes. The server also seemed to be focus on other things and would take forever to check on us. I used to go to the one on State St and never had this bad of experience. I should have gone somewhere else.

We stopped in on a Friday, around 5:45pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant and it remained this way during our entire visit. We were quickly seated in the main dining area. Our food server was friendly and quickly took our order. If I was to rate Pats on the service, it's a 5 out of 5. The dining area is decorated with picnic styles tables and designed in a manner that is perfect for what they are serving up and they have a great patio as well. Our meals weren't as good as the service. The chicken was cold and the brisket was tough and full of fat. Our sides were also off the mark, with the beans being cold and the potato salad lacking seasoning and not cooked all the way, so the potatoes were crunchy. The macaroni and cheese was good. Pat's was at one time the hype and must eat venue in Salt Lake. Unfortunately, there are some things that need attention and improvements. Everyone can have an off day and should be given a break. We will have to try it again sometime and see if we can increase the score. For now, it's a three star, with the encouragement of our community to get behind Pat's again and help them climb there way back to the top.

If you're in the mood for the best BBQ in Utah, do yourself a favor and go to Pat's BBQ. My favorite is Friday which is when they serve the delish burnt ends. If you love the burnt ends as much as I do, get there early as they sell out quick! It's 5 stars all the way!!!

It was delicious! Ribs and red beans and rice never fail and my husband loves their jambalaya.

I'd like to gate keep this place but I just can't. You must try it. Great food, great value and great atmosphere. Check out the live music. They have local beer on tap.

Eclectic atmosphere, wings were ok, kinda dried out but flavorful. Nice presentation with a small salad. Brisket was the worst I have eaten. I left the dry cold chunks of sawdust for the trash can. Service was good. For all the hype, I was really disappointed,

Pat's manager treated us so kindly! We were at the Commonwealth room about to watch a concert when our food was delivered by GrubHub and unfortunately they didn't include any utensils or napkins. We called Pat's Barbecue and they immediately came to meet us and give us everything we needed. Just for that alone, I rate them five star. I only ate a few fries but my friends said they all enjoyed their meals!

Finally!!! Found a BBQ spot that is not drench in sauces. Where sauces are optional. Not just that. The tenderness on the brisket (seaseaned well) and great fall off the bone juicy ribs. Complimented with off the stove Mac n cheese and Mash no gravy. WOW factor for sure. Call me a regular from now on.

10-4-24 Another victim of their own success? This place used to be my all time favorite BBQ. 20 years ago i couldn't get enough, great food, great service 20 years ago. Took my family today for lunch for the world famous Burnt Ends. What a disappointment. Stood waiting to be seated for 15 minutes at 11:15, nobody around, nobody to great and seat us nobody there eating over an hour after opening. No more lines like before, should have been my first clue. What happened to the meaty gravy on rice side? Server didn't know what i was talking about. Brought out a sample of dirty rice. Nope, not the same. Server seemed annoyed we were even there. Not helpful, obviously hadn't been there more than a few months. Had to ask for refills, got 2 sides wrong, brought out the extra take out order with the food instead of when we were finished like i asked. Cold mashed potatoes, dried out meat and the cornbread was mealy, no butter or honey brought out. I always looked forward to going to Pat's, but I'll have to find another place. Severely sad and disappointed.

Love love love! You need to get there early if you want the special of the day but from the ribs to the brisket and the pulled pork everything was delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful.

5 STAR REVIEW. you will not find better barbecue, or a better experience in utah. Great vibes. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great sauce. Literally could not write a better review. Me and the boyfriend basically ordered one of everything on the menu and could not be happier with how it turned out. Great atmosphere with family style seating with a awesome crowd. Definetly an older crowd but we're 23 and still thought it was perfect. Service was great and staff is so attentive and there to help.

Order was great but did forget an another item I had ordered. Had got full order of wings and side of brisket. Didn't get the briskets

Man I love this place. We went on a late afternoon and the staff were so welcoming and attentive, they really impressed me. Zane went above and beyond for us. He helped us find something that we have been looking to find for a long time. I strongly recommend the rib tips, gravy and mashed potatoes and the baked beans. We had some of the best beignets that I have ever had.

This place is fun and tucked away off the beaten path which is a nice change. They have a large indoor and outdoor seating area so you have a choice depending on the weather. I really love being able to dine outside on a picnic table with an umbrella. I ordered the two meat platter with pulled pork and sausage. For my sides I selected cole slaw and baked beans. The portions were good. I really liked the pork. It was juicy and not too fatty. You've got a choice of hot or mild BBQ sauce too. The sausage was okay but nothing spectacular. The cole slaw has a hint of a mustard taste to it but I liked it. Baked beans were just average in my opinion. When the server checked on us I asked if we had to pay extra or order cornbread separately as we noticed all the other tables got bread with their meals. She apologized and quickly brought several pieces of cornbread even though our food was almost gone. Good place for some decent BBQ.

The only reason that we came here was because of the Food Network show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri. To get that endorsement I was shocked that even at 4:30 on a Monday we were the only people in the restaurant. We were there about an hour and there were only 2 other tables that were filled when we left the premises. Let's start with what was good. The pulled pork was very smoky and moist. The brisket French dip sandwich was on point as well. The way they chopped the brisket In larger pieces was great so that everything held together when you dunked it. The chicken wings had a good texture but I am not a fan of flash frying after smoking because it absolutely takes the smoked flavor out of everything. They might as well skip the smoking and just fry the darned things. If I recall correctly the smoked meatloaf was one of the featured items that was prepared for Guy Fieri so I tried that as well. On the meatloaf plate there was included coleslaw which had a good taste and crunch and mashed potatoes and gravy which was a good complement. The meatloaf was almost inedible. It was covered in barbecue sauce and grilled onions and had one of the weirdest textures that I have ever put in my mouth. I really can't believe that concoction is on the menu. I was not impressed with my overall experience.

Arrived for a business lunch with customers who have not been to Pat's for years. Sadly memories is all we have. Portions, quality, flavor, have gone downhill. The burnt ends tasted like they were braised in a crock pot. No resemblance of what they once were. It's now only one side instead of two. Prices are out of line for portion size. Sadly Salt Lake County is lacking any decent Bbq joints. I'm shocked Mr. Barber allowed this to happen to what once was an amazing restaurant.

The food was really good. The service was on their game. Don't let the looks of the place fool you. The food is delicious.

Service was good, ambiance was poor to fair, food left much to be desired. I had a craving for bbq but wanted entertainment too, so Pat's BBQ sounded perfect. My friends and I couldn't stand the benches we had to climb over (very difficult when wearing dresses). The place is still the way it has been for many years and desperately needs an upgrade. Floors are slippery and gross. The cornbread was cold (yuck) the coleslaw was old and had zero flavor....was like just chopped up cabbage with nothing on it. My friends said the ribs were so-so. Pretty disappointed with this place. I don't know why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. Maybe it was because the sweet potato pie was good.

This place was completely empty at dinner time. Should have turned around. They were spring cleaning all around us in the silent dining room. Kind of awkward. The food was AWFUL! All of it. We came because we saw it on DDD. Such a waste of money on our vacation to SLC!

Came in Saturday about 5:30 PM. Saw this place on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives- so wanted to give it a try. Server was a hoot, however a little to blunt and harsh at times while trying to be funny. We could adapt to that, but she should be carful as she may rub some the wrong way (pun intended)! Service as average. Food- got the family platter and that's plenty for 5. Also, the 2 item platters and a meal that you'll be sure to take left overs home in too! Brisket was tender, moist and flavorful. Ribs with the dry rub were tasty & cooked to perfection. The smoke flavor in those were great. Two barbecue sauces, a hot and a sweet. Both excellent. I preferred the yellow bottled one which was a sweeter style. I requested on the side some of the jalapeño sauce. Perfect with the meats too! Previous reviews: I saw they offered " burnt ends?". Not on the menu when we came? Would have gotten those "for sure". Side choices, but beware some are additional costs. We had corn bread, collard greens, fries and baked beans. Stand out was the baked beans. With the family platter came the potato salad and Mac n cheese: both were ok. Theme is outdoorsy style. Meals are served in red plastic lined baskets or served on trays and all drinks are in plastic glasses. They do offer a few well drinks and a small selection of beer. Haven't had BBQ in some time and we all really enjoyed it again plenty left to enjoy for another meal.

Went for burnt ends, got 4 daily specials to go, almost half of the burnt ends was just fat chunks!! This place had gone way downhill!!

We went at lunch and it was pretty quiet. I had the Daily Special which was a Rib Tip Sandwich and it was delicious. I chose Onion Rings as my (upgraded) and they were fabulous... super crunchy without being greasy. I liked having three different sauces on the table to try. Our server was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back and try the Burnt Ends!!

I have been here many times in the past and really thought I wrote a review previously but oh well here it goes...I really want to like this place more than a 3 star but each time the food goes down slightly. Now with that being said there food is better than most and I am super picky when it comes to bbq. Today we had a larger group with us and from a service standpoint they were great despite getting my order wrong 2 times. Our waitress did a great job and was very attentive and apologetic as well so from that part I was fine. My food was just ok...I got the 2 meat combo with brisket, pulled pork with a side hot link. My sides were the potato salad and coleslaw. Let's start with the brisket not bad, but was really dry I usually always like mine a little more juicy and should've asked for center slices. The pulled pork looked like the last of the scrapings and really wasn't that great but did have a great bark in the small pieces that were included. The sausage was again ok and was really tough and rubbery and did have a nice kick. My favorite was the potato salad. It was a mustard style which I like and so was the coleslaw both were really good. Lastly my coworker got the chicken wings and also said they were kinda rubbery. Now I know pumping out the volume they do you can't get it right every time. So for that I will for sure give them another try based on previous experiences.
