In town visiting an old friend. I asked about Wheeling's food scene and if there is anything that Wheeling is known for. He told me about this place. We ended up picking up (car pickup, no inside service) a full tray with two bags of pepperoni and two bags of banana peppers. The pizza is much better than the description lol. I thought of it as microwaved pizza lunchables before I had my first bite. I think I get it. To achieve crust/bread this crisp (on the bottom and the crust), you would need to bake it for a long time. In that time, the cheese would become burnt (like reheating a slice too long). Adding the cheese after baking ensures the cheese is never burnt. I can't say the toppings are very good. They don't have the same character/texture/taste when they haven't been kissed with heat. Getting them in a Walmart Ziploc bag is funny though. I feel like it would be fun to picnic with. I like the spirit of doing things a certain way whether people like them or not. Worth a try if you're into pizza. Have to say, it was surprisingly unique... something that is hard to say about pizza in 2024.

Waited 45 minutes for a half tray… they make you wait outside in your car now. The woman who took my money didn’t give me any change.. no big deal, but then when the pizza came it was cold… the crust tastes like it was made 3 days ago and then barely reheated… worst square pizza in the area, which is a shame because it used to be my favorite…. If I wanted frozen pizza I would just go to Krogers…. Wellsburg or Weirton Dicarlo’s will be getting my business from now on.

A West Virginia original! A wholly unique pizza experience. A totally awesome, one of a kind pizza. There is no indoor seating. There is not an insids for customers. They will bring your order to your vehicle. When you place your order via phone call they assign your order a number. When you park in the parking lot a car hop comes to your car and you tell them your order number. They bring your order to your vehicle.

I ordered four pieces of pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni. And the wonderful fella brought me six. Many times Patsys will give customers an extra piece or two of pizza unsolicited. In this day and age. How nice! Thank you so much!

Haven’t had pizza from you since before Patsy’s became the name…. Well, it was a waste of my time and $$! It used to be the best, but you must have changed cheese, because it’s tasteless plastic! Crust is hard as a brick, and so much sauce it’s like soup!! And sadly it tastes like Campbells tomato soup with spices!! Since you can’t go in the building, I asked for napkins, and the seemingly stoned boy, never brought them…

Google
Overrated. Dough wasn't cooked throughout. Sauce was bland. This is not the same pizza i grew up eating.

Patsy's is an Elm Grove institution! Even though they are now curbside only and I can no longer enjoy watching them make the pizzas like when I was a kid, I still get ridiculously happy when I have their pizza in my car. You can order it by the slice and the prices are super low! Also, you can order all edges, corners, a mix, or all middles (my favorite). The crust is always crisp, the cheese is always perfect, and the pepperoni is always cold. As far as I know, the recipe is still the same used by Patsy DiCarlo himself when my mother was a little girl. Patsy's is my favorite pizza from childhood, and I always stop when I'm anywhere near. I highly recommend you do, too!

Google
I love Patsy’s! The pizza is always excellent. This place is a Wheeling essential and you’ll never taste anything quite like it anywhere else. Park in the lot and they ask for your number, then bring you your pizza. This is a good system that avoids standing and waiting inside, because it’s always packed. It’s wise to order ahead and check their hours by driving by or calling (Patsy sometimes goes on vacation). Take-out only. Make sure to ask for lots of bags of extra cheese. Perfect for parties and gatherings. My family from out of town loves it and insists we order it every time they’re around.

Yelp
First off - for people whom have to think with their mouths open and drag their knuckles when they walk - this place is not for you. For those whom understand the "Institutions of Wheeling" and get what a DiCarlos Pizza experience is - this place is for you. In fact - it's a classic Wheeling showdown! Elm Grove vs Downtown - you hoopies like me get it - some have a taste for Patsys - some like downtown. They are so close I will not argue. I moved away years ago - but there are a few key places us valley people know - all be it downtown or here - you know it - you love it - and it's "home town"! Don't change a thing - keep the experience going - us folks who come back love seeing it still there and relish every tasty bite !!

Yelp
Always happy with Patsy's pizza. Affordable and I enjoy that the crust has a little crisp. Always generous with toppings and ready to go when you arrive. Have been coming here for as long as I can remember and will continue to visit.

Yelp
I love Ohio Valley style pizza, and for my money, Patsy's is the best of them all. I've been eating here for 40+ years and the pizza is always stellar. The name has changed, but the greatness remains. Those squares might not look like much, but I assure you, they are just plain awesome.

Yelp
Great pizza! A tradition in Wheeling. Mimicked but never duplicated. Patsy's is the original and the most popular by far.

M Z.

Yelp
Pizza is great as always. But can we please come in and pick up our pizza? It was an Elm Grove meeting place to say hi to old friend. Covid is over.

Yelp
The pizza is cold with a soggy crust and bad sauce. The service is ok if you want to sit outside and wait in your care. No ambiance at all.

Yelp
I have been getting Patsys for years and this is the first time I've ever complained, not that it's always been the best however it is really good pizza much better than original Dicarlo's however what I got today should not have happened..they told me a 40 minute wait which is usual however there was another 25 minute wait also usual however I then got reheated pizza which I hate and was totally not acceptable as busy as they were to get 20 reheated pieces is rediculous fine each order a couple if you feel your going to go broke if you don't use it but I don't see how that was possible with someone bringing two and three boxes out every 3 or 4 minutes. Sorry Patsy it is what it is.

Yelp
Really unique and delicious pizza in Wheeling, ignore the morons complaining about their precious wait time being violated and feelings being hurt - Patsy's has been delivering great pizza for decades!
google avatar

JD S.

Yelp
John S below this review is a moron. Nobody gives a damn about your rental car. He probably is used to dominos. Best pizza around.

Tom B.

Yelp
Pizza is good. Service is HORRIBLE. The system is a mess--wait in your at after you call in and get a number. Took a hour longer than they projected. This will be my last visit.

Yelp
Under new management. They only offer curbside service, which is nice. You pay someone who comes to your vehicle, then someone else brings the pizza. Waited a little while, but it was Friday and they were busy. Order was wrong when I got home. Called Patsy's and I was aaked if I ordered correctly. Yes, order was for cheese pizza (not hard to order). Receipt confirmed order. But order incorrect. Told I'd get call from manager. Never did. Unfortunate that order incorrect. Obviously poor process to verify order before giving to customer. Pizza was also pretty greasy (and cold) compared to prior (when it was DiCarlo's).

Yelp
Poor quality pizza cheese was unmelted and ruined the interior of my rental car crust was hard as a rock and so oily my shirt was ruined by one slice. I've had some interesting pizza while visiting America but this is the only one I'd go out of my way to advise against getting.

Yelp
This place already starts out on bad footing with terrible service. I literally told the old lady that we've never been here and a buddy told me to give it a try. She looked at me like Ali had a phallic item in my head. So I asked her "what do you have?" Her answer was we only have pizza. So I said ok, I'll have sausage and pepperoni. Of course the reply was "we only have pepperoni and cheese." Then, I said ok, we'll have a medium. You know where this conversation is going. So finally we get our order in and wait about 10-15 minutes for our slices. I'm going to not try to sound like a pizza snob. It resembles a tomato pie with slightly more cheese and sitting on a cracker. There attempt at cold cheese pizza was weak. Drunk food at best but they close early for that and I'd rather just warm up pizza bagel bites. Sorry locals, but not this place ever again.

Yelp
Patsy's is the original and best square pizza in the Ohio Valley! It's an absolute must to eat here when visiting. I also love their new curbside protocol that is much improved since before.

Henry R.

Yelp
Great food, best pizza I have ever had, they had very nice workers and were very kind people

Geyer F.

Yelp
Always a destination for great Ohio Valley style pizza. We make trips to the area just to get a tray!

Boston M.

Yelp
Food was lukewarm. Very underwhelming and dissatisfying to have from one of my favorite pizza places.

Yelp
Great slice of pizza, friendly staff that went out of their way to help us, good first time experience. Pizza review. Square cut thin pizza with a crispy bottom. Sauce was thin and nicely seasoned, cheese is grated differently but tastes great. This place doesn't need a bunch of toppings, simplicity gives pizza the perfect taste. I'll definitely get another few more slices when in Wheeling.

Yelp
First time in town. Was told that DiCarlo's is the best there is. We walked in on an otherwise calm Friday evening and ordered ten pieces of extra cheese pizza. After waiting about ten minutes, which was the quoted wait time, the cashier said our order was ready. Awesome, I thought. Let's get on the road and then eat! Fast forward ten minutes, and upon checking into our hotel and getting settled, we open up to find pepperoni without extra cheese! We're hungry, it's 10pm, we've been traveling all day, and we're vegetarians. We opted to begrudgingly pick off the pepperonis, and suffer without extra cheese. Beyond disappointing, and I can't imagine I'll be back.

James J.

Yelp
Every time I go they never come out to get order and have to go to door. They don't watch for cars. Both staffers were rude when I was just nice and ALWAYS tip well, good or bad service. Never again, disappointing.

Yelp
Hometown favorite! To outsiders, it may seem odd as the crust and sauce is baked and then the cheese and pepperoni are put on it cold at the end, but the hot and cold sensation is great if you eat it immediately. If you leave it in the box, it melts by the time you get home and is more like regular pizza. Great sauce and crust, but you absolutely have to ask for extra cheese as the regular portion of cheese is very skimpy.

Cecil R.

Yelp
KNOW THIS! It is cash only and they use a true queue system mixed with first come first serve. If people are getting their order before you, it's because they had an earlier number or showed up before you and got "in line" at the restaurant before you showed up. It's very odd initially but it's done this way because it keeps a customers pizza from being put in a box and going to waste if they don't show up and you always get hot pizza this way. Therefore if you call 90 minutes before you want it, you'll be in and out in about 15 minutes. If they're rude to you, don't take it personal, they honestly work non-stop all day at a fast pace and they're always busy. Once I was the first one there and within 5 minutes there were 7 others that walked in. Been coming here for 10 years since my college friend from Moundsville introduced me to it. A box or two is the price a pay for staying with him when I visit Pittsburgh. It's a crispy, airy crust with a pretty thick tomato sauce. Cheese is diced provolone that's put on after it comes out, same with the pepperoni. If ordering by the phone (which you always should) you say how many slices you want, 7 in a box, 28 in a tray. They give you a number and then you give them the number when you get there and pay.

Yelp
Grew up eating this pizza. 49+ years. Now live in Florida. Every time we come back to visit the kids, this is the first stop I make. I have to get my pizza fix. It will always be Dicarlos to me. It's like no other pizza that you will ever have!!!

Yelp
I have been going to this pizza shop for over twenty years..I drove past at least ten other stores just because their pizza tasted soooo much better. Then about two or three years ago the taste started to change. I don't know if patsy is not as involved as he used to be or they have changed ingredients but the pizza was a five star and now I give it a two at best. Also yes years ago I would order from moundsville and still have to wait 15 minutes once I got there but Las time I was there it was a Saturday night at 11 PM and there were only three other people in there. I don't think I'm the only one noticing that something has changed please go back to the old way you used to make it

Yelp
Patsy's Pizza has always been my favorite pizza place in the tri-state area! Many people from out of town think of the crust and sauce baked and then the cheese placed on cold is unusual. Many Wheelingites (including me), think that this pizza is the best and truly unique to our city. If you want a true Wheeling food experience, try Patsy's/DiCarlo's Pizza!

Yelp
Just spent 39 dollars on a tray of cheese pizza had no cheese on it worst pizza I've ever ate!!! Will not be back it's horrible

Yelp
I uncontrollably crave this irresistible succulent pizza all the time, and live several hundred miles away. If i could, i would slap on a pair of trousers in a new york minute, hop in the car and get some, but I'm really lazy, you know. I would rank this pizza a 9.4 out of 10, and thats no rookie score.

Colton G.

Yelp
Have been coming here for years. It is the best pizza in the valley. The staff is always amazing and the pizza is always great!

Buck B.

Yelp
The service folks were all very nice but this pizza is simply not good. It was cold when brought to the car and the taste was horrible. Avoid.

Yelp
So know this... you call in an order, add 45 minutes to the time they give you. I don't care if it's 3:30 in afternoon, or 1:00 in the morning. Add 45 minutes. Pizza is what it is. Still good for local area. If not from the Valley, this is not fine Italian fare. It's a local institution, and we love it!

Yelp
Very weird concept of pizza. Flavorless, reminds me of school pizza. Tried it once and never again...

Dimitri S.

Yelp
The best pizza in West Virginia. Formerly a DiCarlo's, but the owner, Patsy, chose not to pay the franchise fee. Make no mistake: this pizza is what other DiCarlos TRY to emulate but fail miserably at doing.

Russell Y.

Yelp
Fantastic as always still the same pizza as it was when it was called Dicarlos. Service still good. This is usually my first stop when back in town.

Yelp
Ordered pizza extra cheese, no pepperoni. Got 60$ worth of pepperoni pizza which is explicitly not what we ordered. They don't take card, which is not stated in phone calls, so we had already been there and back again for cash (Um, what century do you live in? Even food trucks have card acceptance). Then they demanded a return of the pizza. Never in my life have I ever been asked to return an order. That. Is. Disgusting. The "claim" they throw it out. In addition to this, they repeatedly told us that a female worker took our call and that we never explicitly said no pepperoni. Simply not true. A. A MALE took our order. B. You are ARGUING with the costumer on their order? The customer is ALWAYS right. C. We had three people in the room who heard the call in as "no pepperoni". After they received their incorrect order, they continued to fill orders that were not ours and we grew impatient, complaining audibly. After we stood their complaining about our entire hour and a half wait process for them to get things right, they disliked the fact that we were badmouthing them and opted to give us a refund as opposed to making our order in a timely manner. It's clear now why DiCarlos does not want to be associated with these guys. You don't treat costumers fairly. I have never been treated with such disrespect. An establishment that can't handle some criticism will not succeed. They just lost some big time costumers.

Amanda S.

Yelp
First time at this location, very disappointed. I looked them up online and ordered. Went to pick up my order and was told they only accept cash. OK, that was not mentioned over the phone and it wasn't anywhere online. I only had my debit card. I was told I could use the ATM, there is a 3.50 fee. NO, I'm not paying you to withdrawal my own money. They can afford Comcast but no a card reader? I won't visit again.
