Great to return here after so many years -- of course the beer is still top notch, served in a beautiful space. Most memorable, however, was the absolute best Spargel I had that week (and I tried 4 different places): toothsome without being stringy, slightly nutty, with a delicate sweetness. I finally get why Spargel is such a well revered treat.

The food was good and the surroundings beautiful, but my overall experience was disappointing. The service was rough, mechanical, and impersonal. We were spoken to in a harsh tone by an older waiter who clearly seemed like he’d rather be anywhere else. Considering the price, I would have expected to be treated with basic courtesy. I had heard good things about this place before coming, but unfortunately, I was left very disappointed and won’t be returning.

Google
They have the best beer ever with their Lager! I've tried 6 breweries while in Munich and this is the best one! Their pork knuckle is also tasty. The vibe in the Brauhaus is also very chill. One note of improvement is the service, the place isn't very busy when we dined in but the staff are not very attentive, especially the male staff assigned to our area. Thankfully there was this wonderful lady who was more attentive than the others.

We stopped for the beer but ate also. Really nice place. Biergarten not as happening as some but the beer is awesome and food was really good.

Visited on a Sunday at noon. The service was good and the food came out very quickly. I had the Zwickl Beer and the pork knuckle. The pork knuckle was massive and came with two types of dumplings and cabbage salad. Everything was excellent.

Google
Tucked away in the heart of Munich, Paulaner Bräuhaus felt less like a tourist trap and more like a hidden temple of Bavarian flavor. The atmosphere was authentic—no frills, just hearty food, smooth beer, and the warm clatter of locals enjoying the evening. I’ve braved jungle snakes and booby traps, but nothing hits quite like a cold pint and roast pork after a long day of adventure. If you’re looking for a great spot to rest your weary bones and enjoy a proper dinner, this place belongs in a museum… but I’m glad it’s not.

Google
Great food and service, it was very fast and not very full during our stay. When we were ordering our bill, a massive group came in and the place got a bit hectic, overall good experience.

Google
Great Brauhaus! Beer and food is amazing. Recomend the Weis or kellar beer.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in Munich! I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, with large wide open spaces of wooden tables, hops greenery hanging from the ceiling, and a happy energy pouring out of every corner. The menu is filled with a wide variety of German classics, but with a unique flavor that elevates the dish. I ordered the Braumeisterschnitzel and it was incredible! It included 2 different tender pork schnitzel patties, one with grains batter and another with a beer cheese glaze. They are on top of chopped onions, peppers, and other root veggies soaking within a beer sauce gravy. To top it off, they also include gnocchi that balances the dishes. All of it was incredible and so flavorful! It was super filling too and well worth the price. As a drink, I ordered the basil radler. It had an extremely unique flavor, with a savory and refreshing aftertaste. Everything was great, from the food to service to atmosphere!

Yelp
They purposely give us the dinner menu for lunch so we pay almost double than their lunch menu, and their lunch menu is only in German so no one knows that is a lunch menu if you don't read German. That is a lot of nice restaurants near Old Town, I feel the host / waiter is discriminate English speaking tourist, not even one to tell us that is lunch menu available and just show us the different one. And yes they speak very good English, their food is only 2 star, beef is dry and I had better in other Munich restaurants.

Yelp
This local Munich brewery is in my husband's top 2 favorites, so we were excited to try it in person! It's a huge building! They had 3 beer styles to choose from, and one was brewed in house. It was fresh and good. Service was a little spotty due to big groups. It took a while to get menus and then a longer while to get drinks. But it's a must-stop in Munich!

Yelp
Really liked this place, since I had had the pork knuckle a few times already I opted for a Bavarian Burger, which I saw at another table and it looked amazing and while I am an American who has plenty of access to good burgers I went for it. Natrually I had a nice stine or beer to go with it which was great. I asked the waiter for a side salad instead of the fries, he wouldn't do it. Told me that his fries were the best I would have ever had so he insisted. Well he didn't lie, they were amazing. Higly recommended

Yelp
Solid beer and solid food choices. The salad I had wasn't what I expected, but tasted just as good as what I imagined it'd be. So many sausage slices, I was very full after and I rarely get full from any salad. The combination of red onions, cucumbers and vinegar dressing was such a compliment to my beer!

Yelp
Fun bierhaus in Munich to eat local flavors plus Paulaner beer is top shelf. There is an outside garden, however on a rainy day, eating inside was the norm. I would say Munich has returned to normal and is open for business, we came a Thursday and reservations were required to get in. Prompt service and good food. The biermeisterschnitzel was delicious. I have had plenty of the traditional fried schnitzel but this was a great change. The malt is crunchy and the mustard sauce adds great flavor. The pretzels we ordered first came to the table HOT, freshly prepared. Great casual evening in a local environment.

Yelp
Great out of the way Bräuhaus. I say "out of the way" b/c it's not central to Marianplatz. And, to be frank, and sadly, the area just north of here (near the hauptbahnhof) has become a very seedy section of Munich. Paulaner gives you the experience of other similarly large and more touristy beer gardens, with a smaller crowd, quieter environment, a charming waitstaff, and reasonable prices. Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Great ambiance. Very nice people, spoke English and super helpful to make you comfortable. The beer of course was excellent.

Yelp
We sat outside under umbrellas and it was very nice. The service was great and the food was very good. We ordered a sampler platter of German foods and it did not disappoint. The beer was amazing as well.

Yelp
Where to begin. Let's start with the atmosphere. The atmosphere has great potential however on a Saturday night they were moderately busy and yet lacked the energy. Good space but wasn't used due to the lack of customers. The beer was great. We ordered their Oktoberfest beer and 2 pretzels. The pretzels were better than Augustiner. The staff was quick and friendly. Would definitely suggest coming for a visit. But Augustiner and Hofbräuhaus certainly has a better vibe and product overall.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL beer hall! This place is so nice! The interior, taps for beer and even the bathrooms!! First place I stopped after landing in Munich from LA. Near by my airbnb, stopped in for lunch. The staff was semi-friendly at first when they knew we were Americans but after rounds of beer - they grew to like us. Food was awesome and quality! On the expensive side but you can tell why (or see in my pics) We didn't head out to the bier garden but wish we would of if we had more time before our tour. Would recommend and visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
Came for Oktoberfest, and loved every second of it. Even the service was good, these German broads were not F'ing around. Food was simple German flare , but it worked. The music was a lot of 80's hits, so we didn't mind. Oh , and the beer was awesome.

Yelp
If I died and went to some sort of Biergarten heaven, Paulaner Bräuhaus would be that heaven. It's a Bavarian dream! The staff is adorned in the traditional German garb. The beers are flowing, everyone is laughing and carrying on! It was the perfect start to Oktoberfest weekend. The food? Omg the food! Get the sampler platter perfect for larger parties. And the goulash? Home freaking run my friends. Love this place!

Yelp
As far as my time in München went, I would have to say that Paulaner was the best brewery I visited, in terms of overall food, beer, service and ambiance. Hofbrauhaus was definitely great as far as a tourist experience went, but when I think back to my trip to Deutschland, Paulaner stands out as the better brewery between the two. For starters, it was pretty clear that the crowd was going to be vastly different than HB, based on the simple fact that while walking to Paulaner, the people you see on the streets are more like families that live in the area, and actual children, of nearby residents. This isn't to say that Paulaner doesn't have its share of tourists, there were plenty of groups of tourists present, but definitely not saturating the entire establishment. Paulaner is much more of a relaxed atmosphere that doesn't need the cheese of a live band playing Bavarian music, and the tables are nicer, and even candlelit for a more sophisticated ambiance. Service all wears traditional German garb, and I was worried at first when they addressed us in German that communication would be difficult, but our particular server realized the situation and switched to very good English, which I'm always grateful for abroad. Naturally, we drank our share of beers, and as I came to really appreciate on this particular trip, I really liked their dunkel. It seems more appropriate in colder weather, over the weiss, which I tend to like more in warmer weather. I ended up getting a non-breaded schnitzel that was served over a bed of vegetables and with some dumplings, that was beautiful in presentation, and tasted as good as it looked. Paired with the beer, it was a fantastic meal, that was one of the best ones in my trip to Deutschland. Overall, I liked Paulaner more than HB, and I'd tell someone the same thing I wrote here if they asked for opinions in München: HB is great for touristy experience, but Paulaner is better for the holistic.

Yelp
This was our first stop on our Germany tour and we had an amazing time. The waiter was patient with my butchered German and the beer and food were AMAZING. I got the duck and it was to die for. The skin was perfectly crunchy and the sauce was heavenly. Would recommend to any tourist who wants an awesome beer garden experience.

Yelp
I think this is one my favorites period. Went for dinner after a day in Munich. Great atmosphere, friendly service. Had a few great beers. The Weisbeer is fantastic. Ordered the pork knucle - wow amazing.

Yelp
Went here for the first time yesterday and really liked the place. The ambience is lovely and the place is spacious. There is a brewery in the building where, they brew a Weißbier and Starkbier / Bockbier. The copper tanks are immaculate and the pipes and delivery lines are also nice and shiny :-) I am personally not a fan of Paulaner, however, the fresh brewed Weißbier is really nice. The Starkbier brewed here is not the same that is served at Nockherberg and also not so potent (7.6% alcohol vs 10 or 11% at Nockherberg). I must admit I did not like the Starkbier here, as much as I did at Nockherberg. It's nice but nothing to write home about. The saving grace is that it is brewed on premise. Food menu here is extensive and the food is presented really well. I had the Brotzeitdaube (dinner plate with lots of different cheeses, cold cuts and Obatzda) and it was really nice. The Brezn was also soft and chewy and wonderful. Most of the people in our group ate and almost all of them were raving about the taste. It's mostly Bavarian fare. Unlike some of the other Brauhaus'es in the city this is not party central but I would imagine when the biergarten opens in the warmer months the atmosphere would be quite good. Happily come back here if not for the bier, for the food and ambience :-))

Yelp
We love this place so much that we came here twice. We actually had our New Years's Eve dinner here and it was fantastic. Their salads are fantastic and so is the Wienerschnitzel! It was close to our apartment and we ate really well.

Yelp
On a beautiful warm July evening we walked here from our hotel for a glass of beer and a bite to eat that turned into dinner. The place was fairly empty when we arrived a bit early in the evening, but almost every table was reserved, so we had to look a bit for a table to occupy. There are three beers to choose from, a Zwickerl, a white beer and something called "Vladimir" that was described as being a "fake Russian", so we ordered a Mass (litre) each of the Zwickerl and Vladimir, and both were delicious. The food looked great passing by as it was delivered to other tables, so we decided to dine here, too, ordering the 1/4 duck and the half pork knuckle, and these were just about perfect, with perfectly crisp skin and moist meat. It was a lot of food, and well worth the (to us) reasonable price. A great find!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid place for dinner and brews. They squeezed us in for a quick one hour dinner before a reservation at the table which was appreciated. We had the dinner for 2 which had pork knuckle, duck, beef, dumplings, and sauerkraut with some beers of course. Definitely a good German fix of meat, but parts of the meat were dry. Great ambiance and felt like lots of locals frequent here.

Yelp
This by far was my favorite beer hall. Alittle off the beaten path from the central area, but worth the short subway ride and walk. I only had one afternoon and evening in Munich, but managed to stop by 5 other beer halls, and this received high marks from me and my co-worker. The service was great, even sitting on the open seating by the copper mash tun and brew kettle we didn't get forgotten about. Enjoyed several half pint selections, and a pretzel & Obatzda. It was one of the best cheeze spreads I have had while in Germany.

Yelp
We had the whole experience here: the brewery tour followed by lunch and beer in the beer garden. The brewery tour started out great. They immediately sat us down and poured us full glasses of beer for a "tasting." I had 3 beers in front of me at one point, all before 11 am. Having finished most of them, I felt fine as we began the tour, creeping through the dark recesses of the brewery, past tanks and tubes. I must admit, I didn't take in any of the detailed information our affable guide provided us. So for me, it just went on and on, for 90 minutes, and once the beer wore off, I was bored to tears. Plus the rooms we went in ranged from very hot (90 degrees) to freezing. Up and down stairs we trudged, listening to endless details about the brewing process. I couldn't wait for it to end. When at last it did, we walked to the nice Paulaner beer garden for lunch. More beer came to us, which was delicious, but really knocked me out in the warm sunlight. And when my Bavarian sampler plate showed up, with heaps of meat overflowing the plate, I could barely make a dent. And none of it was all that tasty, honestly. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the tour (or maybe duck out after the sampling) and have less meat for lunch. As a place to sit and enjoy a beer, the beer garden was very nice.

Yelp
I had lunch here in the beer garden in a sunny summer day. The beer garden is quite and relaxing. I had the daily lunch menu (cordon bleu with potatoes) which was good and cheap (EUR 6.90), obviously paired with an amazing Helles. Service is quite friendly and quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Pork knuckle and Weissbier both plenty delicious and mouth watering. Service was ok. Restaurant was very welcoming

Yelp
We enjoyed two great dinners here while staying in this neighborhood using AirBNB. My favorite dish was the roast duck with potato dumplings and red cabbage. It was so delicious I ordered it twice! Perfectly roasted with crispy skin and rendered fat. We also found our favorite beer here: Paulaner Dunkel Weisse. Others in my party of 4 enjoyed the pumpkin soup, salmon dish, spätzle, etc.

Yelp
One of the better Bräuhaus downtown. The place is decked out in amazing detail and is extremely spacious. The people who work there have a bit of an attitude and sass you in English but I thought it was hilarious! They are genuinely good people just like messing with tourists. The soups are a good deal and quite filling. Beer is overpriced but hey they are everywhere else in that area. Very conveniently located as well.

Diane V.

Yelp
Very enjoyable place. The waiter was sooo very nice and friendly. Go for the schnitzel it's amazing. And those potato's!!! Yum! Of course - fantastic beer. The front is for drinks- the back is for dining. Large place But felt cozy.

Yelp
Paulaner Brauhaus was absolutely a fantastic dinner pick when a colleague and I ate there this last Friday evening. We did not have a reservation, and it was packed, but the host got us in within 10 minutes (two of us). Once we were seated, we were promptly waited on, and even though it was busy, our waitress had no problem keeping up. Both of us got their Oktoberfest beer, and WOW, their beer exceeded my expectations in every way... SO GOOD, lol! The building was fantastic too. A very warm ambience, that was lively, yet not too loud, and in a phenomenally kept older building. You could probably go for the beer and ambience and be perfectly happy, but then on top of it all, their food is great too! Probably some of the best food during our trip to Bavaria region in Germany, in fact. I had their meatloaf with German potato salad and veggies, and loved it. My colleague had their pork shoulder with dumplings, and he loved it just as much. So, in summary, I would highly, highly recommend Paulaner Brauhaus if you are in Munich, because I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Ric D.

Yelp
Good local food at reasonable price. Try the unfiltered beers. If you walk through the restaurant to the back there is a courtyard where you can escape the noise and dine in peace.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
This place was very cool. The atmosphere was great, there were a lot of folks either going to or coming home from Oktoberfest. They serve beers in huge mugs like they do at Oktoberfest and the schnitzel was fantastic. Best I've had in Germany by far.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Oh man I came here for lunch with some friends and it was pretty cool. Apparently this is the actual brewery and they serve food too. It was very cool to me. Great open space to sit and enjoy a meal or a drink with friends. The was pretty good. I remember getting the duck which came with my very first knödel. Pretty awesome. I have always liked the Paulaner Weiss beer in the US and it's home location didn't disappoint :) Sooo good.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Paulaner runs a tight ship (honestly, who in Germany doesn't) but this is another must do in Munich...get the Salvator. That's one heck of a starkbier.
google avatar

Nafeez A.

Yelp
Very nice menu, full of good options. Casual-chic ambiance, friendly service. It's definitely worth a stop, if you're staying a few days in Munich.
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
Delicious beer and classic German pretzel. Exactly what you're looking for as an American visiting Germany. The service was fine and it was relatively quiet being a weekday around noon, but I could see this place being a blast to come by at night. I would like to check out the rest of the menu, but I just had time to stop in for a beer and my expectations were met.
google avatar

Denali D.

Yelp
On advice from a friend, I had a house specialty that had duck as the main protein - it was SO amazing that I went to this restaurant three times while visiting Munich on a business trip at the Electronica Trade Fair. In addition the beer was the best I've ever had and refreshing even during the winter months I was visiting... amazing trip! If I ever have the chance too return I will definitely visit this place!!!

Jeff P.

Yelp
We stayed in München for over a week and this was by far the best food we encountered. Beer was obviously very good as well. We ordered crispy pork and pulled pork. The Cole slaw that came with the pulled pork was the best I've ever had! This place is phenomenal! Highly recommend visiting here while you're in München!
google avatar

Victor C.

Yelp
A nice and cosy neighborhood Biergarten without the fuss of the tourist crowded places. The inner room is also very well decorated and one of the best we can find in Munich. Dropped by on a hot spring day and felt like home.
google avatar

Stan D.

Yelp
If you are into Bavarian Weißwurst (White Sausage), homemade fresh ground mustard and different types of Bavarian beer, this the place to go to in Munich.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Can not say enough nice things about this place. Out waiter, Fritz, was a riot and very kind. The food was delicious and quick. The bill took a while but hey, it's Germany. The only downside was it didn't have this one dish I fell in love with at another location. Maybe it was a regional thing but they seemed to have a smaller selection. I had the special, which was Wienerschnitzel and it was tender and delicious.

Anna W.

Yelp
After you've checked the Hofbrauhaus off your list, head on over to Paulaner if you want to get some better food, better ambiance, and (in my opinion) better beer. You really cannot go wrong with half a liter of Paulaner hef, some pork and potatoes. Although it is still very tourist-friendly (don't despair if you don't speak German!), this brewery is far more relaxed and attracts locals. Brewery tours are also available, and I definitely would have taken one if we had time.

Yelp
In September, my boyfriend and I took a trip from New York to Germany and were determined to check out Paulaner, as our first date back home was at their New York City location a year prior. We loved the service and beer in New York and figured Germany would be that much better. The food and drink were both great and our waiter Nicholas was also wonderful during our first visit. We went for a meal the first weekend of Oktoberfest when it was understandably very busy and the staff did a great job finding us a table that could accommodate us for a few hours and even went out of their way to find us a new table once our time elapsed and our table was needed for a reservation. Nicholas did a great job serving our food and drinks and was extremely friendly the entire time. We were ecstatic with the excellent start to our trip in Munich. After a great first impression, we decided to return for lunch on our last day in Germany before heading back home. Our second visit to Paulaner was unfortunately the exact opposite of our first experience thanks to our rude waitress Ricarda. Ricarda greeted our table without so much as a hello and instead demanded I remove my water bottle from the table. She said I couldn't drink my water because it wasn't distributed at the brewery, although a quick look around Paulaner revealed otherwise, as several other tables had water bottles from the same brand, Adelholzener. I found her approach rude and accusatory. Had she nicely informed me of this Paulaner policy and offered to replace my water with some of their own, I would have happily obliged, but she confronted me as if I was trying to pull a fast one. Next, Ricarda took our food orders. After my boyfriend ordered an appetizer and entre, Ricarda collected our menus and abruptly walked off, without so much as a glance at me. I followed her back to the area where she placed our orders into a computer and reminded her of my existence, "Excuse me, I'd like to order too." She looked at me quizzically and asked if I wanted to replace our appetizer with my order. At that point I realized she must have thought my boyfriend was ordering for both of us when he ordered his appetizer and entre, which was forgivable, but she did not offer an apology. While it could have been an honest mistake and miscommunication, she again looked at me as if I had done something wrong hearkening back to the water incident. So much for customer service. I felt like I was being put on trial. When Ricarda arrived with the food, her tune seemed to change. She became attentive and chipper and I reconsidered, thinking I possibly misread the situation or maybe even that she was just having a bad day. However, when we requested the check, Ricarda point blank asked us how much we wanted to tip when I offered her my credit card. I was stunned. When Nicholas served us a few days prior and we paid with credit card, he waited for us to volunteer the tip and upon receiving it remarked, "Wow, thank you. That is very generous." Ricarda's demand for a tip was both intrusive and unnecessary and seemed to be predicated upon the assumption that because we are Americans we would be expected to tip her more than is customary in Germany. The icing on the cake was when she handed back my credit card and the bill back to my boyfriend, despite it being obvious that I was taking care of the bill since, you know, I took the card out of my wallet, handed it to her, and gave her Euros for the tip as well. Oh, also my name is Theresa. My boyfriend definitely does not look like a Theresa. It made me question if the whole not taking my order thing was actually an honest mistake or if Ricarda still thinks it is 1950 and that men pay for everything. I wish I could give Paulaner 5 stars. If I hadn't come back after my first visit when Nicholas served us, this review would be very different, but Ricarda unfortunately soured the last day of an otherwise wonderful trip.

Yelp
Had lunch here, the food was excellent and the beers were just as good. Really authentic atmosphere. The staff spoke English very well and were super friendly. If your looking for a hearty meal and a cool place to enjoy it this place is for you!

Yelp
Although a Brauhaus, more a casual restaurant that a party pub (that is, sedate). Food was very good, albeit a little pricey ($66 euros for 2). The potato strudel was excellent as an appetizer. My non-meat eating friend loved the salmon dish. I loved the snitzel stuffed with blue cheese. The red cabbage was a good side dish. The restaurant is in the brewery, so the beer is excellent. They have English menus and speak English very well. Highly recommend.

Marie S.

Yelp
Went here for beers with four friends late one night. Very comfortable atmosphere and typical prices for a Munich beer garden. We would definitely go here again. The pretzel was incredibly expensive (cost more than my potato salad). The potato salad was a bit salty, but who goes to a beer garten for a potato salad anyway? The waiter was friendly and even got us beer after the tap was officially closed.
