The Pax Guest House is a charming place to stay. The couple who own it are friendly and personable. I stayed there the day before my birding tour started and another person from the tour group was there also. The proprietor was an accomplished birder and spent a lot of time showing us the birds in the trees around the hotel. Our stay felt more like a visit. They have a wonderful second floor veranda in the back under giant trees. Just beyond the railing there were five hummingbird feeders that attracted a hundred hummers, twelve different species buzzing around like at a beehive. They were very busy, and you could stand there two feet from them watching! At night dinner was served out there under tiny lights.|This guest house has some age to it, it's not new and modern, more of a period piece, but it's lovely and clean. There are interesting paintings, drawings, and antiques placed around the lounge, dining room and rooms. The rooms have private baths and are quite clean and comfortable. There is a water cooler in the hall with bottled water to fill your personal water bottles. They said their private well water was potable, so I used tap water for tooth brushing without any problems. |The meals were excellent, made with locally grown foods. They served abundant fruit plates at breakfast, and there were pitchers of drinks made from local fruits.|For birders this hotel offers amazing birding starting with the veranda, the trees around the building, and trails for birding away from the house out into a forested valley. The sky from the veranda was full of raptors of many species. Just before dinner we were listening to the flute calls of the Common Potoo. The Pax Guest House is a magical place, an intriguing start for one's travels and adventures around the country.
