Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University

Pretty cool space. I actually went in there accidentally thinking it was the Peale but it turned out to be the Peabody. There’s a couple of awesome exhibits up, one in Ethel Ennis and another on Elizabeth Talford Scott. I contributed to their prompt wall for Scott. While I was there, I went to the guy at the desk at the back to get help finding something and he was super thorough about it. I will be back to check out more regarding the books and to see more of the Ethel’s exhibit and just in general. They have seats you can sit down at with your computer so.

This place is like a maze, but it the library is closed.

Wonderful and helpful faculty. The architecture is marvelous especially the George Peabody Library. Peabody has a wide variety of dance and music classes from young beginners to adults. I have been a student of the preparatory for over 8 years. I enjoyed my experience.

This part of Baltimore is known for its high concentration of cultural institutions and the Peabody Institute is one of the best. Strictly speaking, the Peabody Institute is the music college for Johns Hopkins University and isn't just the library building that immediately comes to mind. That said, the place you're likely to visit is the library, unless you've come here for a music performance. The library space is gorgeous, and particularly impressive if you consider the fact that this building opened in 1866.

A wonderful conservatory with free concerts. Get your tickets early because the concerts sell out! While you're here, check out the George Peabody library.

Meh. Great conservatory, great faculty, architecture is magnificent. Financial aid office is unhelpful and borderline incompetent. Business office is not all that either. For the price we paid I expected better.

I love this school, I go here for lessons and it is a beautiful campus. It is on the smaller side but I think it makes the community feel tighter and everyone is closer together. Also, the concert halls are beautiful, great acoustics.

This is a review of the concert series/concert hall (there is a separate business on Yelp for the George Peabody Library). (FYI in case you don't know: Peabody is JHU's music conservatory/school.) I attended my first concert at the Peabody Institute last weekend when we had some visitors in town. The concert we attended was a performance of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. It was free, in the beautiful Miriam A Friedberg Concert Hall, and wonderful overall. It's a gorgeous venue and location for a classical music concert, and the Peabody musicians are so talented. The concert was wonderful. I'm planning on attending concerts in the future! What a wonderful place to hear classical music in the city! If you like/love classical music, want to support the Peabody students, or are in the area and want to try something new, check out their concerts and events page and take in a concert! We're lucky to have them in Baltimore!

The Peabody institute is a cool place to check out if you're in the Mount Vernon area. You're only allowed to visit the library, which looks amazing, with the 19th century architecture complete with card catalogs. It's also right along the Purple Line bus route.

This place is beautiful. It's an active library so please be quiet and respectful and take out photos and take it in and enjoy. I walked in a literally almost cried it took my breath away. Things you only see in Europe. It's old school America and highly recommend this place as a must see.

What's bad to say about free concerts. The first jazz ensemble show I went to was amazing and shall I say again...free! You just have to set up an account check the calendar and order your tickets. Don't just show up because they really do check for tickets. And try and get there earlier because depending on the room size there could be limited seating and you'll have to stand the entire time. Parking wasn't convenient either. I had to walk a few blocks but it was well worth it. Great idea for a date night of music, art, or dance.

The George Peabody library transported me back in time. Who knew this 19th century treasure was tucked away in Mount Vernon. The interior was truly breathtaking. With several floors of shelved books, it's a bibliophile's dream. Visitors are only allowed on the first floor, nonetheless, I enjoyed meandering and admiring the beautiful architecture for about an hour. In the room just before the library, there are several displays about the collection, including books from the medieval period. The library has limited hours unfortunately. I luckily made it before they closed at 1 pm on Saturday. I would advise that this is worth the trip!

As good as it gets for something that's "free" and "educational". It's a beautiful old library, with some exhibits out front. Worth a stop if you're swinging by Mount Vernon!

I'm a graduate student here. The campus is unspeakably gorgeous. Opened in 1866, the school is filled with five unique concert halls, countless sweeping staircases and the famous Peabody Library. All of the above are absolutely work checking out. The campus is very secure and all entrances require swipe access, but the front doors on Monument Street are open during the day and the public is welcome to tour the school. I recommend it to anyone. Aside from the gorgeous architecture, there are also always immensely talented students (if I do say so, myself) practicing or performing. Go, go, go! Music for all. Over 1,000 performances a year and many of them are free.

Amazing place for music lovers. Love the teachers and the musical spirit of the place. My son is 13 years & before joining Peabody completed 8 years of drumming lessons with London School of Music. He is totally thrilled to be part of the wind ensemble . And feels that the learning curve is much higher and he he learnt a lot in past 4 months!

I am also a graduate student here, like one of the other reviewers. I highly encourage anyone in Baltimore to take advantage of this place. Support the musicians there! In addition to the students who attend, there are amazing musicians from all around the world that perform and teach there. There are concerts going on all the time! Also take the time to stop by the Peabody Library...it is truly spectacular! If you have kids that are interested in music, the Peabody Preparatory has a lot of classes are resources. Bottom line, if you are looking for music in Baltimore, please visit Peabody!
