Peace Memorial Museum

Not recommended - It doesn't do Zanzibar's history justice. Very small museum with some interesting historical artefacts. However, there are only short descriptions with no storyline at all. Definitely quite underwhelming for a country/region which is so full of history. Kind of wish, they would set up a proper museum in a bigger building to tell the whole story from start to scratch.

This is a lovely small museum featuring the history, art, and culture of Zanzibar. The architecture is stunning - based off the Hagia Sophia and originally a monument to soldiers who died in WWI. Some exhibits are being updated. The rooftop is great for views. A welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town. Two for the price of one - since admission also includes entry to the museum of natural history next door.

A single ticket costing Tsh 12,000 gets you entry to this museum and the Natural History Museum next door. On a weekday morning I was the only visitor in both museums. This is the better of the two, there are information boards in English. Both museums could be alot better but if you have some free time...Go upstairs for a 360 degree terrace with views of the surroundings.

There was nobody in this museum when I went in and that's about the number of visitors it deserves

Great place to learn about the history of Zanzibar and get to see many items showcased there including carts used by rulers to move around the city, traditional tools , kingly seats and so many others. Official govt staff present also to give detailed briefing as possible.

The better half of a two museum package. Paired with the Natural History Museum, this one is rich with history. Your personal guide, which comes with the ticket, was a wealth of knowledge. His explainations answered many questions. But like the Natural History Museum, the lack of climate control is going to ruin some very nice pieces.

Unfortunately you can not go in. But beautiful building
