Carmel, Indiana Is Hiding a Christmas Market and Culinary Charms

"A boutique winery in the Arts & Design District that pairs California wines with a philanthropic mission—donating 50% of profits to charity—and focuses on bolder reds and dry wines that stand out in the Midwest; visitors can sample selections such as a Russian River Valley Chardonnay while learning about the winery's charitable focus." - Wendy Pramik

Cheers to the adorable Peace Water Winery! Such a friendly, beautiful, and knowledge winery. I was visiting for an AAU tournament and was blown away that Peace Water Winery was right in front of my hotel. It had a great cycle of patrons and I knew it had to be good. The owner ended up chatting sports with my husband while I indulged in different wines. That's a win in itself! The staff were well knowledged about their selection and went above my questions. It's a great place for any occasion. There was an event coming in but that did not stop them from giving us full attention. The wines were delightful and well deacribed.

We were a group of four and wanted the “winery” tasting without driving too far to get it and we stop at Peace Water. Two of us had the wine tasting experience and the employees guide us through a wonderfully detailed story about the wines, winery and their owners. They don’t offer appetizers or snacks but you can bring your own to pair with the wines you buy. Overall the experience was GREAT and although price wise, I considered the wines a little bit on the higher side, the whole set up of you trying first what wine you want, sit at table and bring you own snacks, specially if you have dietary restrictions is a PLUS and worthwhile. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxed and fun place to enjoy.

We had an unexpected change in plans when our massage appointment was canceled last minute on our anniversary, but visiting this winery turned out to be the perfect alternative! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the live music by Therese made the experience even more special—it was absolutely beautiful. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We had such a wonderful time that we’re already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great wine, a relaxing ambiance, and fantastic hospitality!

After spending a delightful day in Carmel, we stopped by the Peace Water Winery for the wine tasting experience. The atmosphere and decor was nice and the wine was okay. It was mid-afternoon and there were only 3 other patrons enjoying the tasting experience as a group. Apparently Michael was more interested in engaging with them than me and my sister-in-law, as I had to clink my glass on the bar to get his attention between pourings. Then I had to remind him while he was ringing us up that I hadn't received my 5th taste. Better customer service would have resulted in a better review.

My husband and I had our first day/night out on the town since having our baby boy and one of our stops was Peace Water. We were greeted by Michael, who thoroughly explained every little detail about the winery and its owner. He then guided us through a wonderful wine tasting! My husband and I had a great chat with him and the sweet young pregnant woman (I’m sorry I never caught your name!) while we enjoyed our wines. The wines were absolutely fantastic and the company of the employees was even better! My husband and I would recommend this winery to anyone looking for a fun place to enjoy some wine and good conversation! We will definitely be back!

As a dry red drinker, this place was a pleasant surprise. Their grapes are from California and you can tell in all their reds. Nice variety of table and bold reds, definitely will be back

Google
It’s a very nice, clean and very well designed place that matches with downtown Carmel’s personality. When you enter smiley owner welcomes you in their center located bar with a nice chandelier along with string lights. Comfortable deep seating sets and colorful round room available for cozy conversations. I would not expect a backyard like this in the middle of Carmel downtown. Napa valley informational reel on their TVs are plus. Everyone enjoyed their vines and Peace Water Winery’s atmosphere in our group. Will visit more to taste their vines.

Google
A wine bar for wine lovers. This is not a party bar. This is a place for and by people who genuinely love great wine. The ambiance is great. Our server Rachel was incredible and knowledgeable. This place gets my highest respect for whatever that’s worth. What a great find.

Yelp
What a great little wine shop in downtown Carmel. It isn't a destination spot but it's a great part of planning an evening in Carmel. They source wine from Napa, Sonoma, or Lake counties and have a selection that should cover ever palate....maybe not the hardcore Indiana sweet fruit wines but anything outside that is covered. We stopped in for a glass and sole chill time on the patio. Ive seen it busy but on a Saturday night there was lo problem finding a table. They schedule live music on the back patio. Think local musicians with a guitar singing solo for tips. It gives a great low key vibe. The server/bartenders are well versed in their wines and can help guide decisions if needed. I think they are incredibly positive which is always appreciated and keeps with the shops over arching theme. We will keep coming back.

Yelp
I got a Groupon for here for a wine tasting for two. The place is very relaxed and hippie looking inside. The bartender was very helpful in making our wine decisions for our flight and very attentive. I went in on a week night around 7pm and we were the only ones there. We stood at the bar the whole time as he gave us our choice of 5 different wines to try. It was also cool to hear the story of the owners and their mindset and start up of the winery. The wine was pretty good. I didn't have any worth buying a bottle of but did have a great time and will try to come back on one of their live music nights.

Yelp
Just had my daughter's bridal shower at Peace Water. LOVED the venue from the moment I saw it. Very affordable, great people to work with. Everything was set up exacted as requested. There was even a huge storm the night before and owners came in to squeegee the patio before we arrived so it was dry. Great friendly relaxed vibe.

Yelp
Absolutely found this little place so comfortable and charming. The decoration, along with seating, provides an indoor or outdoor experience. The atmosphere was very calming. This location does not provide food however, you may bring your own food or, in this case, charcuterie spread. They also offer a party area to host for any large group event. Happy they have activities such as reading, coloring, and even have a TV for a possible sports game watch if your were solo. The cost for the wine is average, and the tasting was very reasonable. These are wines imported from California, so their selection is not sweet, which is a personal favorite. I chose to taste their reds, and each flavor combo was better than the one before! It's great they provide the wine profile for you to review on your own time.

Yelp
I was waiting for my to-go food couple doors down, so decided to stop by Peace Water Winery. It was a beautiful day and I wanted to sip on some wine while waiting. I was immediately greeted by Stef who is so bubbly and friendly! I know nothing about wine except how to drink it, so I told Stef I wanted something light and a little sweet. I don't remember what she gave me because we were engaged in conversation, but whatever she gave me was delicious! I sat in the back outside with my family and it was a beautiful day. I really enjoyed my wine, but especially enjoyed the service I received from Stef. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I like the place.... I like the wine, I like the vibe, but the corner booth around your fire pit is the most awkward seating created. I'm a tall guy and I'm on my tiptoes sitting to not fall forward... On the other hand, if you'd like a core workout while you drink... boom, nailed it!

Yelp
What a fun place. Michael welcomed us and it was bliss from there. Tremendous wine and what a perfect host Michael was. Than you!!!

Yelp
My wife found this place on Groupon so we decided to give it a try. We had a tasting, the 21 windows was my favorite. Wishful white and Zen were also very good.

Yelp
Our group was lured in on a Saturday evening as our friend was performing live music at Peace Water Winery in Carmel - and I am so glad we decided to go! Aside from parking being a typical downtown Carmel on a weekend nightmare, we enjoyed the rest of our evening immensely. Anastacia was our sweet wine slinger for the evening and she did a great job with keeping up with folks coming at her from all angles of the serving bar. She didn't get frazzled when a challenging 'regular' showed up and posted up at her bar and then proceeded to sing along with the performer at top voice. She has the patience of a saint. As a party of 6 and via a $10 tasting (of 5 short pours), we got to try just about every white wine and rose offered. Admittedly, I am an Indiana girl born and raised so I am used to Indiana sweet wines - but these California options held their own. I was a huge fan of the Ok, Fine for this reason. Our party also had the reds (Grateful Red and 21 Windows) and raved. Of note, 2 of our friends are super familiar with California wines and they said they are legit. This location is much smaller than the one I am familiar with on Mass Ave, but delightfully laid out and decorated. Rumor has it that the area behind the fireplace/divider wall is family friendly and you can enter through another door toward the back to access it. Another lovely employee attempted to help us seat our huge friend mass / party at one point by bringing over the footstools from that area - and that was so kind! We ended up scoring the corner table and remained there for the rest of the evening. We shall return. Thanks for a great evening, PWW!

Yelp
LOVE this place! We are here with friends and puppies at least once a week. Ashley is the best! She always remembers what we like to drink and remembers our names:). Thanks for always being our home away from home!

Yelp
I really like Peace Water winery. I came her for a date day and the customer service was great . I did the tasting and I loved how they guided you through everything . I wish they had more light bites for you to choose from .

Yelp
Michael was wonderful! Came in for a tasting & absolutely loved the Zen Zinfandel. Will def I be back & bring my girlies for a tasting & buy a couple of bottles. 10/10 would recommend & will definitely be back!

Yelp
Stephanie was absolutely a GEM she wast extremely informative and showed us a couple wine tricks . We ended up getting the membership, NEVER pressured into it, instead she informed us and educated us on what we "thought" we liked and what we actually paired up with. I can absolutely tell she cares about her role and overall experience,10:10 experience. I cannot put a price on rapport building and this young wonderful lady DID THAT !!! and she absolutely understood the assignment and I was able to meet some members! thank you steff !

Yelp
We ventured out into Carmel because our talented friend Russell was playing there Friday night. This Peace Water Winery has a fun vibe inside that's different from the Fishers location. (Read: check out all their locactions!) They've got some good seating arrangements that can accomodate medium sized groups 4-8. And while I'm certainly no wine expert, I've found a few that I really enjoy such as Grateful Red and 21 Windows. Yum! Unlike other local wineries, their menu doesn't seem to be sweet-heavy. I'd like to take just a second to give a huge shout out to our server, Anastasia. She was the only one working Saturday evening and she ROCKED it! She was calm and kind and gave each of us a wonderful experience even though she was being pulled in five directions at once. Anastasia is a gem in the service industry.

Yelp
How cute is this place! A perfect stop on my girlfriends day out. As the only California winery in Indiana, so it stands out among other wineries in Indiana. The decorations are hippie chic, and there's a great back patio. it was too warm for it to be on, but they have a fire table for when it gets colder. If you're new to the wine, you can do a tasting for $10 and pick your choice of 5 wines. It's low key, you can grab a glass of wine. There's no food, but there's great wine, they support good causes, and have great atmosphere. The location is great with relationship to other places in the Carmel arts district to stop for a glass before or after dinner or as you're meandering down the street. Parking lot is free behind the building. Check out their wine club if you want to stock your personal cellar with their wine!

Yelp
Valentine's day was so cute at peacewater. It was decorated and the music had our group in a fun mood. Ashley was so great, took pics for and with us, kept us hydrated with water, and of course the wine. We love this place!

Yelp
As related to Indiana and wine... this place passed our expectations. Open and honest, the wine is California wine that local owners have capitalized on. It exceeded our expectations. We got a Groupon and we tried 5-6 different wines. I discovered I actually like three of five and bought a Cab-Sav. The other favs was a California Blend- "21 windows" which was light and berry filled notes. The Rose' was not dry or super sweet, it was refreshingly light and flavorful without tannin. Super nice. We came home with the Cab Sav. We are Deep Red Peidmont and Tuscan fans and Cab Sav Louis Martini fans... for point of reference. Looking forward to returning while strolling around art district with Marlee our dog for company.

Yelp
When I walked in, there were maybe 5 people in the place on a Sunday afternoon. Staff/server seemed a bit disgruntled as I approached the bar. There were lots of laminated papers around and I was looking them all over to just get info as I was this place was about and what they had. I was told "this is the wine" with a pop of attitude as she pointed to the menu. As I am reading the descriptors of the wines I am pressured to decide what I want. I asked about a flight as I was trying to absorb the menu and when I didn't respond quickly with what I wanted (still trying to look over the menu and descriptions and looking for a Pinot Grigio) the server pushed me to decide between the three predetermined flights as to "special order is $2 More" (felt like I was putting her out or something). I had asked about taking wine flights outside-not being sure of the rules on glass. "No tasting only flight" well ok. Forget tasting anything to buy a glass and I got the Patio Flight. It was fine but nothing fabulous. I liked the Sauvignon Blanc. Price was $17 for a total of 8.5 oz of wine. Ok, I get it, it's wine to try. When I went back and ordered a glass for $12.95. I was shocked at the pour. A friend came out with a glass of wine about 2 min after me and commented on how it seemed like a short pour. The wine is fine, but nothing unforgettable. The place is fun and interesting, but relaxed, not swanky or high class where I would expect an expensive glass of wine. Maybe it's "Carmel?" Or the fact the grapes are from Cali? Maybe I am offsetting the cost to ship that to Indiana? There are other local wineries in the Indy area. I probably won't be back.

Aly R.

Yelp
Had a great experience today tasting! Bought two lovely bottles one Bliss and one Grateful Red. Scott was amazing!

Yelp
I loved the covered patio and live music- such a vibe on a nice summer day. The wines were all delicious and the tray makes it super easy to carry.

Yelp
I was so excited to finally try Peace Water Winery in Carmel! We actually had a Groupon for a tasting here but due to COVID they have put a hold on doing tastings! But they were so gracious to let me swap out the tasting for a wine flight! So disclaimer their wine is definitely not sweet! But that is so up my alley because I'm not a huge fan of sweet wines typically. Inside is super cute, but we actually sat in their outdoor area which is where they had live music. The outdoor area has super cute string lights and space heaters all around so it's perfect for cooler nights. Did I mention they are dog friendly? Yup! I got to see some pretty cute dogs. Now that I know they're dog friendly I will definitely be taking mine next time :)

Yelp
Steph is amazing and so generous. Love to know that they give half of their proceeds to charity. Love it and definitely recommend.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Wine not bad. Great atmosphere both in and out. You can order food from local restaurants while here. Servers great! A portion of the proceeds donated to a charity of your choice.

Yelp
Fantastic place, both at the Carmel and Indianapolis downtown locations. First came here last June for their awesome Groupon wine tasting experience, and my mom was hooked immediately with the vibes and personable workers. She got a membership and we've been coming every month since. So much fun to hang out here over a glass of wine, especially since a percentage of the profits go to various charities. This place is just in general great vibes when you walk in! Dogs are allowed too! I really like the back porch in the Carmel location during the summer because you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. So quaint and on weekends they have live music!
google avatar

Mariano G.

Yelp
Went there last weekend because we were nearby. It was a good location, close to the Monon trail, on Main Street. We wanted to try a few of the wines so we got 2 sample flights which come with 5 wines to try. We were led through our tasting by Taylor who was extremely knowledgeable about the winery but also fun to chat with. I ordered a mix of whites and reds. The whites were good but I was personally a bigger fan of the reds. Their Pinot Noir was awesome!

Nikki F.

Yelp
Outstanding experience! I definitely recommend this place. Michael was fantastic. He made us feel very welcome, was super knowledgeable about the wines, and what an amazing winery - very family-oriented, and 50% of their profits go to charity! We were so impressed, we became members!
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
Peace Water Carmel, My wife and I have been wine club members here for 3 years it's the only winery of Indiana that we frequent often that's because they source their grapes from California as we are used to since being from the Central Coast of California for many many years. You just can't find the quality and the in-depth aromas along with the intense flavors in the Midwest as you do with the Wines from Peace Water!
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
Stopped by Peace Water while in town in the Spring. It was surprisingly very expensive for a tasting of wine than I thought it would be (this is in Indiana not Napa), however there were a wide range of wines to choose from. I did enjoy sitting on the patio to get out of the rain, and they have a nice covered setup. We ordered at the bar, and the workers were friendly, however didn't really give us alot of backstories on the wines, notes of the flavors we should expect to taste, as you might think a winery typically does. Kind of a mix between a winery and a regular bar (which just sells wines).

Robin P.

Yelp
Loved this little winery in indy. Good service, wine was excellent and very drinkable nice clean atmosphere. Our Server Courtney was very friendly and knowledgeable. New club member and very good discounts offered.
google avatar

Gabbi H.

Yelp
Top of the list for favorite spots was the Peace Water Winery. Their wines are made in Napa, and they have a tasting room in Carmel. To be honest, I'm not totally clear on why, but that's not really important for this story. For $10, you can hop in and do a wine tasting, selecting five options from their extensive list. They offer everything from sparkling wines to chardonnay to a red blend. I greatly enjoyed all but one: the "Wishful White" white wine blend, which was too sweet for me. My favorite in the line-up was the "Soulful Reserve," an oaked chardonnay which has notes of butterscotch, vanilla bean and toffee, according to them. All the details on my Peace Water Winery experience here: https://heregoesgabbi.com/travel/restaurants-carmel-indiana/

Yelp
Cute and adorable place! First time to Peace Water and it's a place I will definitely come back to. The girls behind the bar were super sweet and helpful. We did not have any food but the wine was spectacular!

Emily S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick tasting and was pleasantly surprised with the wine and service. Scott was knowledgeable and easy to chat with. The wines had nice flavor and variety- try the rose for sure! Love the story and community vision this winery has beyond making great wine (:

Yelp
I just love the decor, and the staff..and wine quality is excellent... It's a little pricey, but worth the money..especially since I get two glasses a month for free w my membership

Yelp
Peace water was great! Great place to go for some tastings! Ashley was great, and helped us with everything we needed! She was very warm, inviting and knowledgeable. She definitely made our experience more enjoyable

Anonymous G.

Yelp
Such a great experience! The wine is great and the atmosphere is incredible. Anastasia was amazing and they knew exactly what kind of wine we would like based on other preferences. Highly recommend stopping at Peacewater if you're in the Mass Ave or Carmel area.

Yelp
We were looking to wind down and relax after shopping and stopped in to check it out after seeing the 'Patio is Open' sign. After a little explanation on how things worked, we decided to order a bottle of white wine to enjoy. We looked around a bit and, despite the patio(s) lure, opted to put up our feet and spend some quality hang time in the 'peace pod'. The decor is what I'd call glitzy zen (if that's even a thing), comfortable and mostly tranquil with the exception of the crystal chandeliers. We agreed that Indian hanging lanterns and a little Nag Champa would be more appropriate. What's missing? A little snack to enjoy with your wine. Goose the Market charcuterie or pretzels/goldfish, cheese & berries would go a long way for those looking to stop in between meals. I do love that they don't accept tips, but rather suggest you choose one of their selected charities to support. Great spot for a small gathering!
google avatar

Caroline Z.

Yelp
This is definitely one of my go-to spots with friends. It's a great spot to do a tasting or grab a table and split a bottle. I was here a few weekends ago, and I really enjoyed the live music out back. They're also dog friendly, so it's a great spot for pet parents. They donate a portion of each bottle purchased to various charities, which is amazing. While the tastings are very reasonably priced, the bottles are quite a bit more than I would normally spend, but I love treating myself to a bottle on special occasions.
google avatar

Monica J.

Yelp
I love this place. Such a vibe for wine lovers. I came in to get a couple bottles for gifts.

Chad S.

Yelp
Scott was amazing super cool the wines were amazing it was a nice vibe would definitely recommend as maybe a date night surprise your partner

Yelp
Loved stopping here for a wine tasting! Scott is incredibly knowledgeable and made our experience very enjoyable. Highly recommend stopping in if you are in the mood for some great wine!

Yelp
Such a great vibe here! The service was impeccable; the ladies were full of knowledge. We walked out with 3 bottles and will visit again when in town or have wine shipped, great wine!!

Yelp
Giiiiiirls night!! Peace Water Winery couldn't have been more ideal for a friend reunion. There's a large, high-top, wooden table that sits about ten people and was the perfect spot for us. The staff/owners are all very friendly and relaxed and not pretentious at all. They welcome questions and are happy to find a nice wine for you. My favorite part: you can get wine flights (perfect when you don't want to decide and commit to just one!) Red wine flight: -Sublime: Pinoit Noir (black cherry aroma) -21 Windows: CA Picnic Red (cherry cola) -Zen: Zinfandel (blackberry) My favorite was the Sublime, and I also noticed that some other people brought in their own foods (nice!). Know that this place is on the pricier side, but has quality wines from California and a great atmosphere.

Rashonda A.

Yelp
Steph was amazing! My fiancée and I are not normally wine drinkers and Steph walked us through it and made a great recommendation!

Michelle H.

Yelp
Ashley was so nice and very informative about all the wines. She made sure to answer any questions we had and I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Hannah D.

Yelp
The perfect place to hangout and catch up with friends! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly without being overbearing. The wine selections were many and delicious. I tried both a mixed patio flight and a cab and loved both. They don't have food on site, but they do allow you to bring food in and even have hard copy menus for Bazbeaux's, which is just a quick stroll down the street. Exceeded my expectations and a great place to hang out with friends, especially if you're not into the bar scene!

Yelp
We were seeking a lovely venue for our relative's wedding shower and we chose this wonderful winery before we even saw it in person. The pictures showed us that there would be ample space and accommodations for sixteen invitees. We had the opportunity to have a personal tasting experience with Michael two weeks before our event. He was knowledgeable and patient with us. After touring the space and tasting the wine offerings, we were sure we had made a excellent choice for our shower. The event was held yesterday, Saturday, and all of the ladies remarked on the perfect setting. The circular seating was reminiscent of King Arthur and his round table. Everyone could see and hear everyone else. We brought a narrow table which fit perfectly in front of the fireplace and we were able to adorn the table with our own cloth, food and non-alcoholic beverages. Karen was available to answer all of our questions and provided all the assistance that we needed. No one left early because they were comfortable and enjoying a lovely event in unique surroundings. The wine was cold and delicious. Truly a wonderful setting to launch the wedding weekend. An extra bonus was that I was given tokens to insert in the baskets representing various local non-profits. Each of the groups that I chose will receive a small portion of the profits from the day. Yay!

rhonda k.

Yelp
Scott was fantastic to do a tasting with! Nice little visit with the girls and some great wine to bring home!

Yelp
Anastasia is the best! Came in to Carmel to see family and they said it was a must. Peace Water did not disappoint! Excellent wine. Excellent Service. We will be back!!

Yelp
Sunday is a funday at Peacewater! I went in for a bottle and came out with... well more than a bottle. I am a red drinker and the Cab and Zen were my favorite, but they really have so many to choose from, if you like wine you will find what you need here. Then there is the way beautiful ambience, great decor and superb outdoor Zen garden feel oasis off Main Street in Carmel, IN Love it and to top it off, half the proceeds goes to charity. (You pick from the charities they donate to.)
