3 Best Day Trips From Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Riding the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, the cable car linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains (the highest lift in the world, at an elevation of 1,430 feet), is a can’t-miss experience with phenomenal views. In the warmer months, there are plenty of stops for hiking. New for 2018, the Peak 2 Peak includes the Cloudraker Skybridge, a 427-foot suspension bridge with heart-pounding 360-degree views. When you reach Whistler Peak, you can stop on the Raven’s Eye Cliff Walk viewing platform for even more amazing (and terrifying) vistas." - Liz Humphreys

Yelp
Beautiful in July!!!! The gondola location is right near all the restaurants and shop in the Whistler Village. You can purchase a ticket online then go inside the ticket information center to get the paper ticket. It would be nice if they had a way to scan virtual ticket and just get on gondola. The line was a bit long but fast service. I went alone because for a family of 5 the ticket prices were quite steep. Plus my teens wouldn't appreciate the views. The gondola was spacious. I went mid day so not as busy. The gondola itself was well maintained. The views were stunning all the way up and then across to the other peek. At the top is a great restaurant to get food and a bar for cocktails. Make sure you have enough time to stay up at the peak because the lines can be quite long at the end of the day. It's cool seeing all the Canadian flags and Olympic rings. Fun to stand on the winning steps to have a photo op. This was a fun solo adventure! It was a warm day but at the top the weather was perfect. It can be windy so take a sweater.

Yelp
Trail Series, Part 31 "BOGO." Isn't it great when your purchase comes with a bonus? And so it is with the purchase of a single gondola ticket that provides you access to both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains! Your 30 minute ride up Blackcomb Mountain rises 4,000 feet above Whistler Village and connects you to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola (some of which feature glass bottoms) that can transport you across to Whistler Mountain in about 11 minutes. While I was surprised by the number of Marmots freely roaming both mountains, I probably shouldn't have been. After all it was their shrill "whistling" noises that inspired the early British Columbia trappers and prospectors to name this place "Whistler." The silence here is literally deafening. You know how after attending a concert your ears ring for like an hour? Well it's like that here, only different. You can still hear a ringing in your, but that's due to the unique experience of a complete absence of noise. We also noticed that sound travels differently on the mountain. Several times I could clearly hear the conversations of other hikers (fact), only to realize that they were actually quite a distance from us. I have to admit that after a while I got tired of hearing about this "amazing new phenomenon Henry's Take" and I just started to tune it out (not true). The trails provide beautiful vantage points, are well maintained with clear directional signage, feature a wide assortment of wild mushrooms (one looked just like a hamburger bun complete with poppyseeds), and you may even encounter the lichen covered rock that resembles a globe or the plant that looks like something straight out of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax." The majority of the trails on Blackcomb Mountain are easy or moderate, while most of the trails on Whistler Mountain are challenging. The gondolas are accessible for those with mobility challenges and there are terrific viewing areas for those unable to navigate the trail system. In keeping with Canadian tradition (which started today, eh!), we were careful to pack an "Oh Henry!" bar as a part of our emergency rations. And that's...Henry's Take. #hikingwhistler

Yelp
This thing is a marvel of engineering. It's miraculous it can connect the peaks like it does. I've been on it numerous times. The ride is comfortable and the views are amazing.

Yelp
This was the highlight for me and my kids at our last visit to Whistler. The photos and even the YouTube videos don't do justice for the Peak 2 Peak experience. First off, don't get sticker shock from the price of a pass for an adult. It is $99 Canadian, and cheaper for teens, and youth. If you have an Epic Pass, you can ride for free. My family has Epic passes and we were able to purchase discount passes for the others in our group using our passes so it made this experience a bit cheaper. We rode the gondola from the village up to Whistler Peak. You can walk the trails, take photos at the olympic rings, and eat food at the cafeteria on this peak and also at Blackcomb. We opted to hike to the chair lift that takes you up to the suspension bridge at the top of the peak. I'm afraid of heights and boy did it take a lot of concentration not to freak out :-) We had two teens with us and they were able to brave through the chair lift and the suspension bridge. What amazing views from the top!! We then took the Peak 2 Peak gondola over to Blackcomb mountain. We waited for the glass floor gondola. It was ok, but not worth waiting for. You spend your time looking out the side windows, not necessarily down. The views are phenomenal! You are so high up in the air. I heard it might be higher than 1,000 feet (300 meters for you metric people). We ate lunch at the cafe at Blackcomb and then took the Peak 2 Peak back to Whistler mountain, and then the gondola back down to the village. You could have taken a gondola directly down from Blackcomb, but we didn't feel like walking 10-15 minutes back to the village. It was starting to get warm. We ended up easily spending four hours exploring and riding the gondolas this day. You could spend way more time doing this as there were amazing hikes that took you to a lake and even snow (really packed ice at this point in the summer).

Yelp
I spent a lot of time going back and forth on which gondola to go on - Peak 2 Peak or Sea to Sky. We ended up doing both. I ended up enjoying Peak 2 Peak more, which I was surprised by. It is expensive though - $99 CAD (not including taxes/fees). We went in mid-July and purchased our tickets online the day before. We thought this would allow us to skip a line but we still had to wait in line to pick up the tickets, which kind of defeated the whole purpose. We visited on a Saturday just after 10 AM when in opened and people were already lining up. I initially thought you just take a gondola ride up to the top, and that would be it. But nope. It's called Peak to Peak because you're taking a gondola from the peak of Whistler to the peak of Blackcomb (DUH). You can choose to go up either on the Whistler side, or the Blackcomb side. The ticket is good for a roundtrip, and you can cross peak to peak as many times as you want. We went up on the Whistler side (about a 10-15 minute gondola ride), and that is the mountain with more things to do. There's a gift shop/restaurant/bathrooms at the top, the Olympic rings, and the highlight - the Cloudraker bridge, which is a suspension bridge. But in order to get to the suspension bridge, you have to hike about 15 minutes to the chairlift. The trail opens at 11, and a lot of people (including us) were waiting for it to open, so you can beat the rush - which I recommend doing. It's a beginner trail but there are quite a bit of loose pebbles and slopes. I was able to do it at 6 months pregnant, but I definitely needed to hold onto my husband. From there, the chairlift is about 5 minutes up to the bridge. Once you take all your pictures, you head back down on the ski lift and hike back to the main area. From there, you can cross to Blackcomb Mountain. There was not much on that side except for a gift shop, restaurants, and bathrooms. There was also a huge school trip so we didn't stay long because we didn't want to get stuck behind them. We didn't end up going down on the Blackcomb side but just took the gondola back to the Whistler side to head down. We spent about 3 hours doing everything. It was worth the experience, and probably the highlight of my trip. So if you're on the fence of visiting (my main reason was the price), I would say just do it. You won't get many opportunities like this one.

Yelp
It was last day of closing and it was a lot of people. We showed up at the opening and it was packed. It was very quick ride up and then we took Peak 2 Peak gondola. Then we hiked up to the top point and we took drag lift spent some time up went down. We stopped by cafe with a nice view and had some drinks (very overpriced) We took Whistler mountain gondola down and we got lucky because we were the only people in the gondola and finally I could film something. We spent 3 h all together. We are not professional hikers or bike mountain lovers we just wanted to have a good time and see panoramic view from the top of the mountains. Peak 2 peak with glass bottom was not a big deal. We were so packed that nobody could move. It was not a big deal the glass bottom, I wish I took a regular peak 2 peak.

Yelp
Setting aside cost which is prohibitive to any family, there was a lot of hassle involved with our experience. TIMING AND STAFF RESPONSES ARE INCONSISTENT. The staff originally told us the lift was open until 5:30, then the next day a staff member got upset with us for thinking this and informed us it actually closes at 5. But it's also open later if you do the buffet (we still don't know this for certain). And when you go right to buy the ticket from the Google search link, timing isn't mentioned despite hearing from staff it was definitely on the webpage. Perhaps the larger issue, when the sun sets at 9 pm in the summer why isn't the gondola open past 5?

Yelp
Great gondola trip! I thought it was a great deal! This trip is a must when visiting Whistler!

Yelp
"Thought of you as my mountaintop Thought of you as my peak Thought of you as everything" (The Velvet Underground) As you stroll through Whistler Village, you'll see two mountain tops - Blackcomb and Whistler. So how might you ask can you visit both mountains for some spectacular sightseeing? Well, I'm here to tell ya, Peak To Peak is the answer. You can catch a gondola (red for a regular car and purple for a glass bottom car) and enjoy a spectacular 11 minute cable car ride high atop the treetops, with mountainous scenery everywhere you look. The ride lasts 11 minutes and set new Guinness World records for "highest above ground cable car" and "longest unsupported span between two cable car towers." You'll ride 1,430 feet (or 436 meters) above ground, giving you great scenery to look at. Fantastic, just fantastic!

Yelp
We visited on a sunny clear day (no wind). The ride takes a few minutes (20+) to cross peak to peak. If you have acrophobia you may want to re think this one. Also, the Sky bridge.. Pretty exciting and the open chair lift ride up the side of the mountain is not for the faint of heart..

Yelp
The only way to travel between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Great service by kind servers. The gondolas are efficient. The 4 stars are for two reasons 1. The cost- extremely high! $90 per person for the original gondola plus peak to peak. 10 people, that was $900 for an afternoon. There needs to be cheaper options for groups 2. Not all gondolas have clean windows. That can mess up the spectacular views!!!

Yelp
What an amazing must do experience. The views are amazing. Christine's at Blackcomb is great for lunch. Then peak 2 peak to the top of the Whistler gondola where you can walk down a hill to the chair lifts to go to the sky bridge which is amazing for pictures and 360 degree views. The umbrella bar is also unique with fantastic views and a last sip before riding down to the village. This is a MUST DO !

Yelp
This gondola ride is a must-do if you're visiting Whistler Canada. Whistler is a town that the Olympics were hosted. It's extremely scenic, the drive to Whistler is worth the trip. While you're there I highly recommend doing the gondola, it's an amazing view of the mountain and town. I do recommend doing this in the summer, during the winter it would be very hard to drive up the mountain.

Armand L.

Yelp
I enjoyed the ride and the views. Once you get to the top you can take the Suspension Bridge which moves lol my partner stopped scared in the middle and squatted down so I carried her like a suitcase to the end lol. I'm 6' 6' from Hawai'i and former military no worries lol the price should be lower but otherwise enjoyed it
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Totally worth the price especially if one takes a day trip to Whistler and Whistler Village. Drive time from Vancouver to Whistler Village is approximately 2 hours. Depending how long you want to stop and take pictures, the entire tram ride from start to finish will take 3 hours as well as if one wants to take one of the glass bottom trams between peaks which is a longer wait time. After my first ride 9 years ago during the summer, a lot has changed regarding man made mountain bike paths for beginners to the more advanced riders. Since there was snow on the ground, there were skiers and snow boarders as well. Recommend purchasing tickets when you arrive instead of ordering on line unless you are with a tour group where the price is probably included.

Yelp
The peak 2 peak gondola ride has got to be one of the most amazing experiences I've had to date. 11 minutes of pure engineering genius connects you between the mountain peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb almost 2 miles apart. On the Whistler peak you have much more to do at least this time of the year. Activities such a hiking to several different sides of the mountain, claiming your own inukshuk and soon to open a grand experience of crossing the world's highest suspension bridge. On the Blackcomb side things were a lot more mellow but I'm sure if the temperatures we right this would be the peak to conquer. Both peaks offer some good looking restaurants and various other amenities. You have the option of two types of cable cars to get from one side to the other which include the regular car and the glass bottom car. I'm not sure the extra wait was worth it for the glass bottom but the term YOLO comes to mind. The P2P experience is definitely something I would recommend over and over again.

Yelp
Great way to get from one side to the other with beautiful views and stay warm from the elements.

Yelp
Peak 2 Peak Gondola connects Blackcomb to Whistler ... and Whistler to Blackcomb. It's 2 mountains and 1 must-do experience when visiting this world-famous resort. The 11-minute ride opened in December 2008 and broke Guinness World Records for "highest cable car above ground" and the "longest unsupported span between two cable car towers." The terminal buildings are the two largest lift terminals in the world. Peak 2 Peak Gondolas travel at 16 mph up to 436 meters (1430 feet) above the Fitzsimmons Creek valley with a free span between towers of 3.024 kilometers (1.88 miles). Each mountain has 2 intermediate towers that range in height from 30 to 65 meters. The entire distance covered by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola is 4.4 km (2.73 miles). There are 28 gondola cars and each holds 28 people (22 seats). Most of the cars are painted red and feature breathtaking 360 degree views of the mountains, valley, and landscape. Two cars are painted silver with the same breathtaking views AND feature a glass-bottom for real thrill seekers and bird's-eye views. Hours vary by the season and weather. In summer plan for 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. while in other seasons it may only run weekends and holidays. Check the website for the latest schedule. Adult tickets for 1-day are $63 while seniors/youth (13-18) are $56. Children (7-12) are just $32 each while kids younger than that are free. Discounts are available online for purchase 2+ days in advance as well as great deals on 2-day and season passes. There is no limit the number of times you can ride the Peak 2 Peak Gondola each day. It is an incredible experience that will induce vertigo in some and inspiration in others ... perhaps, a full range of fear and excitement at the same time. My advice is to take the ski lift up one of the mountains, ride the Peak 2 Peak to the other mountain, have a snack, ski, or play, and then ride the Peak 2 Peak back to the first mountain for more fun.

Yelp
Very nice and large gondola to go between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains in 13 minutes compared to over and hour if ski to base and transport to other mountain then chairlift up. Enjoyed being able to ski two different mountains in the afternoon with a simple 13 minute gondola ride.
google avatar

Yelp
This July we took the gondola up to Whistler. While there, we took a chair lift to Whister's summit area, did a little hiking, crossed the and suspension bridge. We took the Peak 2 Peak gondola over to Blackcomb, took a chair lift to Blackcomb's summit area, and did a little hiking. The gondola on Blackcomb was closed, so we took the Peak 2 Peak gondola back to Whistler and down the mountain from there. All of this was included with the price of a summer gondola ticket, which was well worth the cost! This day on the mountains was my favorite part of my Whistler/Blackcomb/Vancouver experience.

Yelp
I took this gondola after skiing, and it was such a gorgeous view. It is about 11 minutes long from one side to the other and 2.73 miles one way. If you are afraid of heights, this might not be for you. But, for everyone else, it gives you a gorgeous panoramic view of the mountains and valley. Also, look for the purple gondolas, because those are the glass-bottomed gondolas. They are highly recommended, although I did not get a chance to ride one. There is plenty of room for people, skis, snowboards, and other equipment.

Farah J.

Yelp
Amazing time in Whistler with a great view on the the gondolas. It was nice to see that you could ride as many times as you want! We saw the whisky Jack birds and also stayed in a cute town called Squamish!
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
OMG!! It is a very interesting ride. The view is incredible from that height!! It has enough space for everyone to have a good look. So beautiful outside. Just be sure that there is no wind or hard weather conditions that will obscure the sky or stop the gondola from working.

Yelp
The Peak 2 Peak Gondola in Whistler is a large gondola that will take you from the Whistler Peak to Blackcomb's peak and vice versa. It's a great way to move from one mountain or the other, and there's no other system like it. This review focuses on the gondola for foot travelers (non-skiers). My Overall Rating - 4 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Facility, Return) Atmosphere - The first important item to note is that the Peak 2 Peak gondola system is at the TOP of both peaks. Meaning you have to take a gondola up first. Once you are up, it's a small walk from Whistler's peak to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. On most days you'll be above the clouds, and it's usually sunny. Also, it's cold up top so be sure you dress appropriately. Ski gear & thermals are recommended. 1 Star. Service - The lift operators are friendly and try to be efficient. If you are on foot, I recommend going up after 10 AM to avoid the rush. Be sure you follow instructions, they are there for your safety. If you are alone or with just one other person, they may let you squeeze into one of the gondolas with the glass window. 1 Star. Facility - It's quite amazing that this gondola even exists. First of all, the cars are huge, and can easily seat 10 - 15 people. It's also quite safe during entry and exit points. One minor complaint is that there very few glass bottom cars, and the wait can take 15 - 30 minutes. With the amount of people who ride it you would think they could add a few more. Also, it's not attached to any restaurant/lodge. Not a big deal for the Whistler side, but the Blackcomb peak is a bit of a hike. But for no skiers, you can't beat the view. 1 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. It's a no brainer, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola is worth the ride and the price. You still have to pay to go up, and it's amazing that such a thing even exists. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Facility - I'll award up to two stars for the facility, since this is the main reason we go out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the facility. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Yelp score

Tim S.

Yelp
Excellent. Gotta go do this. A must when in Whistler. Bring a jacket in the summer just in case.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
One of the craziest engineering feats out there. Just to make sure you're aware of it, there's a nice board you can read while lining up that lists the world records broken by this gondola. If you're lucky (and it really is luck unless you join the special lineup), you'll land yourself in 1 of 2 glass-bottomed cars. These ones are grey instead of red. Since there are 28 cars, you have a 1 in 14 chance. My understanding is that this gondola runs all year, but costs $60(!?) during the summer. Might as well hit the slopes during the winter, and ride for free.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
You have to do PEAK TO PEAK gondola if you have never been before. So worth the money. However don't take this if you have a fear of heights or are prone to altitude sickness. Takes you from Whistler mountain to Blackcomb mountain and then back to Whistler mountain. You can descend from Whistler mountain back down to Whistler village. You can get off at blackcomb mountain if you choose. 4.4 km journey, takes 22 minutes once you are on board. Holds the Guinness world record for highest and longest lift. There was a short wait to aboard the gondola, about 15 minutes. You can choose to go on the glass bottom gondola or take the regular one. If I had to do it again i wouldn't have chose to wait for the glass bottom because you could really see out of it anyways because of condensation.

Yelp
After surviving Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver, I figured this would be nothing! Wrong! Peak to Peak is the tallest gondola ever. After a few hours of snowboarding on Blackcomb Mountain, we decided to make our way towards Whistler Mountain, about 2 or 3 miles away. We unloaded and got on line to wait for the "Glass Bottom" gondola. If you're not a snowboarder or skier, you can still ride the gondola, just make sure you buy tickets! The ride across the mountains was scary as hell, but very beautiful at the same time. We were so HIGH in the air! It does go by slowly, but the ride felt like an eternity! But we really felt like we had a bird's eye view of the snow and mountains. The return trip wasn't as bad and felt shorter in comparison to the first trip. It's the best way to get from Peak to Peak in Whistler!
google avatar

Kurt A.

Yelp
This is a must see. The views from both peaks is breathtaking. The ride up is pretty exciting but the views from the peak to peak are breathtaking. Potentially a bit scary for those with a fear of heights (I don't normally fear heights but it was a bit unnerving) but the views are excellent.
google avatar

Cory S.

Yelp
Yep... its what you think based on the pictures, no surprises here. We waited for one of the glass bottom gondola's. I'm torn on if the 15-20 minute was worth it. The glass bottom is pretty small, a 3'x4' piece of glass maybe? It was kind of cool, but didn't do it for me. The rest of the ride was awesome and a great way to see the landscapes. Unfortunately for us there were fires in the area so it was not very clear, but you could still see the beauty and get the rush of being up there.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Catch the whistler gondola up and then change to this one to go peak to peak. It's got amazing views and each cage fits about 28 people. 2 if the gondolas have small glass bottoms which is interesting (be prepared to wait if you want to go on this one). Great value of $60 for all gondola tickets and the Suspension Bridge.
google avatar

Yelp
First thought when I read about the Peak 2 Peak was "TOURIST TRAP"! After skeptically paying quite a bit of money for a ticket on a gondola, I was ready to engage this possible waste of money. Was I ever wrong, this was absolutely amazing if you enjoy wonderful snow capped mountains and beautiful scenery hanging a mile or so up in the air! They have two types of gondola, a red and grey colored. The big difference is that the grey gondola has a plexi glass bottom for you thrill seekers, downside is that there is only two of them (Have to wait a minimum of 10 minutes for it to arrive). Either way, I found this to be quite exciting and well worth the cost and time.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
The gondola is pure engineering genius. If either mountain is more parked then the other, a simple 10 minute ride on this thing makes Whistler/Blackcomb such a great resort! Should you wait for the glass floor version? I don't think so. Just take the tram and you'll still have a great viewing experience in my opinion. Picture's don't do this beast justice in either tram.

Yelp
Really amazing! This is a relaxing, quiet gondola ride that takes you hundreds of feet in the air over Whistler with several weather changes in the process and showing you a stunning, beautiful view of the mountains! It's 2.73 miles/4.4 kilometers and worth every second. When you go to Whistler, you have to go on Peak 2 Peak! This is the highest cable car above the ground - it has the world record! It also has the longest unsupported span between cable cars. The ride is also long! And we kept going back a few times at no extra expense. I'll explain. After getting your tickets, you stand in line to pop onto a gondola. They slow down but don't stop so pay attention especially with the kids. Some of the gondolas have a glass bottom which adds to the view! However, you definitely won't miss out if you don't get one with a glass bottom. You'll be scaling up a mountain until you reach the top where they have the Olympic circles from the winter Olympics a couple years ago still standing. There's a gift shop that also sells warm winter clothing in case you forgot a jacket which you need year round - that snow doesn't melt in the summer - and well taken care of restrooms. You then get into another gondola to go across the valley up to Blackcomb Mountain where you swear it's dropped 20 degrees and snowboards and skiers will be whizzing past you. The view is simply breathtaking. Take tons of pictures. You will see new things constantly as you look in different directions. We were here in the spring and I'm sure it looks totally different in each season. You can go back and forth from the mountains as much as you want at no extra cost. Make sure you pay attention to when the gondola closes, because if you don't, your butt is walking down! Our tickets were $40 apiece and definitely worth it. You can get a discount if you plan in advance and buy your tickets online.

Yelp
Peak 2 Peak Gondola is on another level, magnificent engineering marvel that gets a world record title for the "highest cable car above ground" and "longest unsupported span between two cable cars". This thing is freakishly high, and after being on the freakishly high Vancouver Capilano suspension bridge and Grouse Mountain, Peak 2 Peak Gondola took freakish heights to another level. To get to Peak 2 Peak Gondola, you have to take another gondolla there. It's that high, so high that there is snow at the top in the middle of summer, where it's 80 degrees below. The only con is that the gondolla closes early, and if you don't make it on time, you have to climb down the mountain!!! Also, the only way down from the other peak, when we went was to hop on a ski lift going down! I'm amazed at the people who have the balls to ski down this thing; the ski lift is terrifying enough. No wonder the winter Olympics were held here, these are pro heights. I have to say this is one of the most beautiful things I've done, one of those must do bucketlist things before you die. The gondolla literally goes from one mountain top to another. Where the heck will you ever find that, and what crazy people made this thing?!? Get a gondolla with a glass floor and enhance the experience!

Yelp
When you first wander into the heart of Whistler Village it's natural to be struck by the majesty of the mountains and activity of the numerous chair lifts. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of our family vacation in August was the almost frenetic energy created by the mountain bikers who were in town for the annual Crankworx Whistler Freeride Mountain Bike Festival (http://www.whistler.com/events/crankworx/) . As the website states, "At Crankworx Whistler the best riders and biggest bike fans in the world come out for a week of gravity-fuelled racing, freeride competitions, partying hard and shredding the trails together." And I'm here to tell you, that's a fact! As a first time Whistler tourists, the mountains call to you to visit them--a task made easy through numerous ticket options including the one we settled on, the Peak 2 Peak Alpine Experience which includes a world record gondola ride from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain. The tour begins with a gondola ride from the Whistler base aboard the Whistler Village Gondola, a high speed lift that comfortably fits eight. We shared our ride up with another family who, as it turns out, lives in our Seattle neighborhood. Small world. The ride aboard the Whistler Village Gondola is fast and dramatic, covering some 3800 vertical feet in 30 minutes. The Whistler Village Gondola concludes at a spot where you can access great summertime hiking trails, transfer to the Peak 2 Peak and take pictures at numerous scenic points. You can also continue to the summit aboard the Whistler Peak chairlift which is a modest walk/hike away--and you really should. After all, you've come this far. Why not summit the mountain? This was the journey my family took. Village Gondola to Whistler Peak round trip and then aboard the Peak 2 Peak to Blackcomb Mountain. When you line up for the Peak 2 Peak, you can choose between two lines. The first line is for traditional gondolas. The second line is for one of two glass bottom gondolas. We were told to not bother with the glass bottom gondola line. That the wait is too long and the view out the side of the gondola so spectacular that you didn't need the glass bottom gimmick. We didn't listen and instead endured a 50 or so minute wait (vs. no real wait for the traditional gondola.) At the time, it seemed like a reasonable decision. We were on vacation, had nowhere to be and this was possibly a once in a lifetime ride, so why not get the full experience? But, when you are actually aboard the gondola, the glass bottom becomes almost a second thought. Seeing tree tops from aboard a gondola is really no different than seeing from an airplane. After a few moments, the novelty wears off and you really do find yourself gawking at the majestic splendor from the side windows. And boy is it impressive. The Peak 2 Peak gondola is an amazing achievement of engineering, particularly the world record free span between towers - nearly two miles long. It is truly stunning. For the price of your ticket you can ride aboard the Peak 2 Peak as many times as you want for that day. We limited our ride to just the one trip, but thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. While we didn't spend much time on Blackcomb, we were struck by the different feel it held from Whistler. I'm not sure how to describe it- perhaps a bit more refined? Even the cool mountain air seems a bit tempered on Blackcomb. To conclude our trip, we took the Solar Coaster Express to the Wizard Express back to the base. All in, our Peak 2 Peak adventure lasted about 2.5 hours and was a great, albeit expensive outing. Here is what we paid for tickets: Two adults $105.90 Two youth $91.90 Tax $9.90 Total $207.70 Worthwhile, but as I already said, probably only something we would do the one time.

Yelp
Freshly opened on Dec 12, 2008, the P2P gondola spanning between Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler mountain and Rendezvous on Blackcomb is a modern engineering marvel. When it was built, it broke three world records for the longest continuous lift system, the highest vertical drop for such a system, and having the largest unsupported span. When you read that, it might sound scary, but on the contrary, it is absolutely breathtaking. The 11 minute ride is stable and quite the testament to Swiss precision and design. Our hero was amazed by the view and how quickly it took him between the dual mountains. This gondola is definitely a great addition to Whistler Blackcomb that sets it apart from all other North American ski resorts. PROS: - Scenic ride. - Convenient link between the dual mountains. - Two out of the 28 gondolas are glass bottomed, allowing riders to look beneath their feet at the incredible 1,427 ft drop down to Fitzsimmon's creek at the tallest point. CONS: - It's an extra $7 for the P2P lift privileges on top of existing lift tickets (but well worth the ride). - Construction of the ride left a thin treeless "scar" between the two mountains where they had to cut down a path beneath the lift system.

Yelp
Modern engineering at its finest. As an engineer (fine, developer), I was extremely impressed by the feats P2P accomplished. But aside from that, the experience itself was incredible. We bought the tickets a few days earlier, so we opted to get the two day package, a smart decision. The first day in Whistler, we went up the gondolas to Roundhouse Lodge and was complete surrounded by clouds. As we traveled between the peaks, it began to pour. Awesome view of absolutely nothing. But the next day, we were blessed with great weather and could actually see a gorgeous view of the valley. There's a few hiking trails around both peaks, but the coolest "attraction" was definitely the chair lift up to the Whistler peak. At both peaks, you'll find overpriced restaurants with cafeteria-quality food and shops. And there's surprisingly Wi-Fi and Nintendo DSs/Wii Us for kids to play. I'm guessing for those afraid of heights. Tickets are pricey, but well worth it if you're in Whistler for the first time. -- Fun fact: It holds the world record for the longest free span at 1.88 miles. (There's no towers in the middle, yet the ride is extremely stable) -- PHOTOS: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peak-2-peak-gondola-whistler?select=UZn-tNf3FoAzQFyPz94FIw#UZn-tNf3FoAzQFyPz94FIw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peak-2-peak-gondola-whistler?select=iX1D3E0Ulpn32aZyILf4Sg#iX1D3E0Ulpn32aZyILf4Sg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peak-2-peak-gondola-whistler?select=Vo_zzkoYHi743lQKXJ0bnQ#Vo_zzkoYHi743lQKXJ0bnQ

Yelp
Friendly staff except for the girl taking tickets. I went in the wrong way even though it said "enter" and she just didn't like it. I apologized, but it rubbed her the wrong way. When we bought our tickets I didn't realize the peak to peak was included so that was cool. I also didn't realize it was going to be an affair that lasted for hours and hours, but there's a lot to do up there if you want to do it. Obviously a lot of photo ops. There is shopping and cafes if you get hungry. It was cool watching the bikers go down on the ride up and back. There was a race going on so that was cool. We spent 5 hours between lift off and landing. If I had been by myself it would have been 2 or 3 hours. I didn't need as much time as my dad to look at everything and take pics. The views were beautiful. Trees, glaciers and more trees.

Yelp
Highly recommend doing this activity while in Whistler as long as its not foggy or cloudy. The views are amazing. Its about 45-an hours from the bottom of the mountain, peak to peak, and back down

Yelp
This was a really cool way to see whistler! How fun to see both mountain bikers and skiers in the month of June! I was nervous because of the height- but I wasn't scared at all in the Gondola! It was really cool and beautiful!!

Yelp
The views from this gondola are amazing, especially if you are lucky to get one with the glass floor - when skiing with kids we always have to wait for the grey car, the one with the glass floor, otherwise they wouldn't go (the red ones are regular, only the grey ones have glass floor). Aside from being a tourist attraction in its own right, P2P gondola is also a huge convenience if you like to sky both mountains. Due to the lighting/sun positioning we usually like to ski Whistler mountain in the morning and Blackcomb in the afternoon. With P2P gondola, we can be skiing in 7th Heaven just 30 min after having a lunch at Roundhouse.

Yelp
I visited Whistler, Canada last summer on a tour and was able to ridge the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. I am normally afraid of heights, but felt very comfortable riding in the cabs and soaking in the view and mountain peaks of Whistler. Even during the summer there was snow in certain sections of the mountains. Great Outing for family trips also.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time going up the Whistler mountain, took the peak express lift, did a little hike/walk, ride the peak to peak gondola and then came down the Blackcomb mountain. It was money well spent for the package price in my opinion. The view was breathtaking and we snapped so many pictures. Warning though, the walk to ride the peak express lift was longer and steeper than it seemed. Though the reward is to see the famous Inukshuk with beautiful snowcapped mountains (even during summer time) as back drop for some amazing photo opportunities.

Yelp
Meh. Way overpriced, there are plenty of hikes nearby which are just as pretty, save yourself $75 on a ticket and parking. Or check out the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. Cheaper, closer to town, way less crowded, and just as pretty.

Yelp
It will cost about $50 a person just to ride the gondala. It is worth it just to buy the $100 mountain pass for the day. Tip: if you are not skiing down the only way up and down the mountain is the whistler gondala. Gorgeous views on a clear day!

Yelp
A must! My bf and I both have a mild fear of heights but we didn't let this stop us. We bought our tix the night before at our hotel. Apparently it is cheaper to purchase before the day you plan to go? Still costs over $55 CA per person. It was about a 10 minute walk to the Whistler Gondola from the free lots (4&5). We ended up going up around 9:30am. I had hoped we could go to the peak of Whistler too and hike down but that lift wasn't open yet and we had an itinerary to stick to. Then we were on to the Peak 2 Peak. We opted for the one without the glass floor as there was a wait and we were also told it's just a small square of glass in the middle vs a full glass floor. As we were about to get on it stopped! The attendant said it shouldn't be a long wait but it also never stops so we'd have to wait and see. Not reassuring but we were able to laugh it off and we got rolling fairly quickly after that. It took a few minutes to get used to the ride and there were a few moments I needed to remember to breathe, but overall a fantastic experience. 11 minutes across I believe. At the top of Blackcomb we had delicious hot cocoa and took in the view. To get down we opted for the open air lifts down Blackcomb. The car was again about a 10 minute walk from the bottom.

Yelp
Our party didnt wait for the glass bottom gondola but still enjoyed the peak to peak gondola! The gondola was spacious, clean, secure- even if you are afraid of heights you can still relax and enjoy the fabulous view between Whistler and Blackcomb. It's worth the price! Although personally I enjoyed the view at the top of Whistler's mountain peak more- so if you're tight on budget pick Whistler only.
