Neighbourhood spotlight: Battersea, London - SilverKris

"A casual park café beside the boating lake that serves hearty breakfast and brunch dishes — think buttermilk pancakes and a maple-and-paprika bacon sandwich — with outdoor seating that allows diners to enjoy calming waterside views when weather permits." - Delle Chan

Serene location overlooking the lake. Good quality coffee and food. Was not to busy midweek so service was quick. Large outside seating area.

Lovely lakeside location in Battersea Park with a spacious, dog-friendly café that’s great for people-watching. My scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on sourdough were nicely done, though my husband said that his bacon & egg roll was ‘average’. The only odd thing was having tea and coffee served in paper cups when dining in — I’d have preferred proper mugs. Overall, a nice spot for breakfast.

This is a really happening spot, perfect for catching up with friends. It’s a lovely daytime café offering great vegan and vegetarian options. I tried the smashed avocado toast, which was delicious, hearty, and filling, and the prices are quite reasonable too. In the evening, they open up the outdoor bar, and I even noticed a BBQ station. The music, outdoor seating, and beautiful lake view create such a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you’re looking to chill, eat well, and enjoy the park!

Loved the vibes at The Pear Tree Cafe! Went for Oktoberfest and it was such a fun atmosphere - live music, great pizza, and amazing views right in the middle of Battersea Park. Perfect spot to hang out with friends and enjoy the buzz (just get there early, it gets busy!).

I got myself a bacon ciabatta and was wondering how this can be sold as any type of dish at all? Simply a bunch of bacon in the ciabatta with nothing else inside. Literally a bread and bacon for £8. Shocked of the this nonsense meal and presentation for this much money.

Gorgeous atmosphere, and a great refreshing beverage and a delicious avocado toast. Great place to take a break and read a book while exploring

The sun was out on a Sunday so we walked to Battersea Park. We stopped at Pear tree cafe for lunch, the cafe was quite busy. I ordered the courgette, bean and chickpea salad with a beer. I loved the yoghurt based dressing. A nice healthy salad but it was a bit awkward/difficult eating the watercress (too many stems with leaves on them). It would be nice to have the leaves mixed with the salad and to leave a couple of whole stem and leaves for decoration. Music was playing, a bit loud but we were able to talk and added to the excitement of being out on a nice warm sunny day in London. Tables and benches outdoor can fit up to 8 people. No table service that day. We ordered and collected our food.

We visited once on a weekday just over week ago and again over the weekend, and on both occasions the café appeared to be understaffed. The team members working were clearly doing their best and were all friendly and professional, but there simply didn’t seem to be enough of them to keep everything running smoothly. During our weekday visit, we noticed food orders building up in the kitchen hatch while staff were occupied serving or making drinks, so food wasn’t being run promptly. Over the weekend, although there were additional staff on, it still felt insufficient. The constant ringing of the chef’s bell and staff having to rush back and forth to run plates made the dining experience a little chaotic. This also seemed to affect the general upkeep of the café, with tables and outdoor areas not being cleared or cleaned as regularly as needed. Given how popular the café is, especially in summer, it seems reasonable that a few more team members during busy meal times could make a significant positive difference. Several other local customers we know have mentioned noticing similar issues recently. One additional point: during our weekday visit, we overheard one young male staff member with dark hair using language that may not have been appropriate within earshot of customers, including children. This may simply have been an oversight, but it’s something to be mindful of. Overall, the staff themselves were welcoming and working very hard; it just appears that further support would benefit both them and the customer experience.

Yelp
Might not be able to speak on the food as much as when we went on a Friday afternoon, the kitchen was not open yet. Super fun place for people visiting London to get a bit of a taste of what the local life feels like. Really fun atmosphere with young people. Beautiful walk through the park to get there. Beer, wine & they start to play music loud outside at around 6 pm. Get there early to secure a table for a large group!! Will definitely come back every time I am visiting London.

Yelp
We had a lovely time there and the food was actually very good. Make sure to get their steak sandwich because they actually give you a lot of meat and the bread is warm and crunchy. Burger wasn't bad either but not a must have. When you get to the restaurant, grab a table first and remember the table number because you'll have to line up to order food and give them your table number so they can bring you food. There're table by the lake and it very nice but we chose the indoor glasshouse area because it's cold. One thing to note is that you will have to wait a Longgggggg time for food. We waited 45min for both of our sandwich/burger. Also, their coffee isn't great so many order a strong one!

Yelp
There is a sense of serenity when enjoying a good meal in the middle of nature, especially when the weather is nice and it's a Saturday morning. I had an Iced Latte and Scrambled Eggs on Salmon - not sure why I was expecting a cooked salmon filet but it came with smoked salmon. I was a bit suspicious at first given how bright orange it was but to my surprise, it was smoked really well. Additionally, the scrambled eggs were cooked correctly and fluffy, and the sourdough was toasted just the way I like it. Overall, great Brunch spot and I would highly recommend outdoor seating if the weather permits.

Yelp
Pear Tree Cafe was such an absolute treat! Being from the states, we we're looking forward to sight-seeing and eating at the best spots without feeling like tourists. This spot did the trick. The food was amazing... SO amazing that we decided to visit the following morning after we had eaten there the evening before. The second time around was just as satisfying as the dinner the night before. They stay true to the seasons and their food is extremely fresh. The eggs were cooked to perfection and rested on the most delicate toast- topped with smoked salmon and presented beautifully (see image).. the most perfect pair ever. And the MAPLE BANANA BACON PANCAKES?! Don't get me started... I am mouth watering thinking about. We cannot wait to revisit... even if we had one day only to go back we'd DEFINITELY go straight to Pear Tree. I wish they could come to the states!!!!

Yelp
Sunny day, craft beer, curious (or hungry) egret plus loads of space in their outdoor area - what more do you want? This has got to be the best beer garden in London and it was about 80% full on a sunny day. Go figure!

Yelp
The best cafe! The staff are nice and helpful. It can get too busy but thats because it is so good. Its worth being patient. Dog friendly and wonderful. The food is fantastic. I love the Pear Tree Cafe PS Ignore Laurie C comments. The Cafe is for all, including dog walkers. Its a Park Cafe, get real, relax and enjoy!

Yelp
Absolutely loved the location and food, especially the Aubergine salad. However my visit to your cafe was slightly interrupted by the manner in which one of your members of staff were treating his colleagues. He was being incredibly rude and degrading as I overheard him telling off one of the young female workers who looked quite upset, including swearing at them. No matter how good your food is, the fact that this staff member, who's name is Nick, which I found out by asking one of the young men working, is treating your other staff members like this is just appalling. I hope for the sake of that poor young girl and any other girl who may come through pear trees doors you deal with this. Once again, great aubergine salad, but this is unacceptable. Sincerely, confused customer

Yelp
The best breakfast in Battersea. Couldn't think of a better way to start the morning in London.

Yelp
I've been here for coffee or breakfast a few times and whilst the food is nice, the dog situation is unbearable. I love dogs, but the cafe is overrun by them. Many are off leads- twice this morning dogs ran under the table and across my legs. There's incessant barking, whining, and growling. Food is displayed on open tabletops and counters within sniffing- or licking- distance of dogs. (I've seen both.) The management makes no attempt whatsoever to control it. I complained to the manager after I saw a dog jump to counter and put it's nose to a sandwich and he shrugged it off. Unacceptable for a food establishment.

Yelp
Granted this is a park cafe and expectations are low, very low. Went here today for a cup of tea and was waiting in the queue for quite a while because the service is slow, very slow. A slice of tart was about 6gbp which we felt was quite pricey considering the sterile ambiance. While we were enjoying our drinks we noticed that the staff were walking in and out trying to figure out who ordered what. They were often confused and I imagine when the diners finally received their food it was cold. This place certainly has potential and I know I'll be back because of lack of options in the park.
