My husband and I had one of the best meals of our life here! We stopped in Missoula on the way back from camping at Glacier National Park and came across Brasserie Port Rouge. From start to finish, everything was outstanding. To begin, I had a sparkling white wine, and my husband had a red (rioja). We ordered 12 oysters that were on the daily special menu. The oysters, from Washington, were wonderful and fresh.
For dinner, I had the pan-roasted trout stuffed with local mushrooms & Neuske's bacon, served with polenta cake, sauce vierge and creme fraiche. I absolutely loved the mushrooms and bacon part of the dish, and the trout was cooked perfectly!
My husband had the rabbit, chorizo & octopus skewer, which came with snail & bean saffron risotto and piperade. He's Australian so he's serious about his seafood, like me, and he said this is one of the best meals he's had in Montana. The skewer is a bold combination of meats, but it works.
Dessert was my favorite part. I got the Lumiere, which is a candle-shaped cake with burnt honey gateau, roasted orange marmalade, pastry cream, croissant brittle, and torched meringue buttercream. I enjoyed this more than words can say. Great taste--loved the croissant brittle--awesome presentation and wonderful taste.
My husband had the lubrecht tart (lemon curd, pine nut cream, and spruce tip coulis in shortcrust pastry, topped with bruleed marshmallow cream). He enjoyed it thoroughly and told our waitress that the meal was outstanding start to finish. We are so happy to have found this restaurant. To top it all off, the atmosphere of the restaurant is so lovely -- awesome lighting, oyster art, unique tiling--this is my #1 recommendation for dinner in Missoula!
