One of the best meals I've ever had in my life, and I don't say that lightly, because I love good food. My husband and I went here last week as an anniversary celebration, and everything from start to finish was incredible. Quiet, pleasant, dimly-lit, romantic ambiance. Excellent service. Beautiful plating. Exquisite bread, wine, appetizer, entree, dessert. It probably doesn't need to be said that it's pricy, but so worth it for a special occasion. Side note: I didn't realize steak could taste this amazing. Photos shown below: Escargot with sizzling garlic butter and sourdough croutons; Lamb with mint and fava bean couscous, grilled zucchini; Filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce, green beans, and yukon mash; Almond torte with raspberry; Lemon cheesecake with huckleberry sauce and candied lemon peel.

Google
Excellent food, service and ambiance. We had the halibut, bison, chocolate mousse and creme brulee. The meal came with bread. All delicious. The employees wore masks, and they did a great job spacing groups and cleaning the tables. Not an inexpensive meal, but compared to where we're from I thought the food was very reasonably priced for the quality.

Google
I am speechless. And kicking myself for taking so long to go here. Do yourself a favor and get in there asap. The German Chocolate cake was the best dessert I've ever had.

Google
Everything here was to die for. A great atmosphere and look to the whole place, very reminiscent of a French Cafe. The food was delicious, excellently complex and flavors very well blended. Food was also very astetically pleasing also. Fantastic restaurant.

Google
I had a wonderful meal at The Pearl Cafe. The staff are all very welcoming, and the food was excellent. Don't pass up the specials; this is a place where the daily menu is worth your attention. I thought the wine selection was nicely curated and the ambiance was very calming (I ate quietly by myself, as a single woman, and it wasn't weird like some places can be). I was visiting on business, but would happily come back for date night next time I'm in Missoula.

Google
This has become one of our favorite restaurants. I think they've kept improving over the years so it's now consistently delicious and the wait staff is excellent. I love places where the staff do not interrupt the diners, but wait until there is a good moment for checking with the individuals at the table. The mixed seafood grill is divine. Great place for special occasions.

Google
What a great restaurant, had a great supper with awesome service.

Vann Hasty

Google
The ambiance is great. The wine list is reasonably curated. The service was one and done. Our glasses were empty through dinner. The tomato bisque shocking similar to Campbells soup. My steak was utility grade at best. What a shame.

Yelp
Had a first date here and it was pricy so I offered to go Dutch. Great service and ambiance. The server was attentive. Had our 1 year anniversary of that first date here too at the same table and a third lovely meal with wine pairing with my daughter, who loves the French fries lol. This is an upscale establishment with a fine variety of choices, including vegan options.

Yelp
Granted, we showed up without a reservation.... But to be treated like an inconvenience on a not particularly busy night seems unprofessional. The food was hit and miss... The service was a miss. Server apparently was in the middle of some kind of domestic issue with her significant other (he was in and out of the building).... And that was very much reflected in the poor service. Honestly, I didn't see the French influence particularly apparent. Just a nice bistro with decent food. Nothing stellar. Maybe they deserve another star... not with the service we received.

Michael L.

Yelp
This place was a surprise. I was visiting Missoula for the first time and didn't know what to expect. I was staying nearby and walked over. The ambiance was cozy, the wine selection was good and so was the food and service.

Jeri B.

Yelp
A large group of us about 12 or so made reservations here last night and it was delicious. I've never had French food but they did have snails on the menu. I got the steak frites and I thought it was very well cooked. We also had the charcuterie board and that was good. Our server was very attentive considering how busy it was. We will recommend and come back.

Mary K.

Yelp
Wonderful establishment! Very enjoyable lunch. Both entrees were presented perfectly and tasted heavenly.

Olivia M.

Yelp
Wonderful food and super nice staff! We started with escargot and scallops followed by French onion soup and salad my husband had quail and I had seafood grill. Desserts were perfect as well 10/10 carrot cake & pumpkin tarte

Yelp
We got here early after recovering from the marathon. We wanted an early dinner, then relax and continue stretching after all the mileage we had collected. We ordered the fried cheese, roast duck and the special. They informed us the fried cheese was quite popular and it was okay... The cheese did not seem like a good fit to be fried as I have had this greek dish before several times and this was not to my liking. The roast duck was good but my partner's special was the best dish out of the three. The service was also okay. I really liked our first server and we did not realize they would be rotating them out. The second server we had was also nice but he was not as attentive as we would have liked. Overall, decent place

Yelp
I'm amazed that are any reviews less than 4 stars for this delightful gem of a restaurant. I grew up part time in France and I think their food is very French, delicious and very well prepared. Their wine list is by far the best in Missoula. This has become one of our favorites places to come and bring guests to from out of town. I've never felt snubbed or ill treated regardless of my attire; in fact I feel the service and all of the servers are kind, thoughtful and go out of their way to be accommodating and offer a lovely experience. Missoula is lucky to have this merveilleux petite brasserie!

Jan C.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is cool and the service is good. The issue we had was that the food was not up to expectations. The cheese plate, with added meats, was ok, but needed a bit more contrast in flavors While the halibut special was tasty the lamb dish was underwhelming. There was just not a lot of flavor there. The best part of the meal was dessert. The Breton Butter cake was fantastic. While it did not have the "gooey interior" described on the menu, it was flaky, moist and delicious. One small service issue was that we asked to box up leftover cheeses and entrees. Rather than bring the boxes at the end of the meal they were brought out during the meal. So on your small table you have a little stack of boxes to deal with while you're trying to enjoy coffee and dessert. That's a service miss. Note photos of the gender neutral bathrooms.

Yelp
First time and we will be back. Food and atmosphere were both great as was the service. Fun place to go. Nice, but not too fancy.

Yelp
What a fabulous Anniversary dinner at Brasserie Port Rouge. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for close to 3 years. I am so glad we came and am bummed I waited so long to come. The good news is that I learned they will be open for lunch M-F. I cant wait. I see a lot of French onion soup in my future. We started out with some Dungeness Crab Cakes that were so good. It seems most crab cakes these days are mostly filler but not here. The were mostly crab and very little filler. As a result, they were a little soft but I am not complaining. They were perfect. Make sure every bite has a bit of the remoulade, watercress, watermelon rind and radish mixture on it. That mix completely raises the bar on this crab cake. If you don't order this, you are truly missing out. Next up on our feast was French onion soup. The broth has a silky mouth feel and a very pleasant rich onion flavor. They also don't skimp on the cheese and it is quality cheese. Sometimes restaurants use lesser quality cheeses which have a plasticky feel to them when melted. Not here. This is soup is in my top 3 French onions and I've eaten it in some amazing restaurants in Paris. If you don't order the soup, you are missing out. Now for the entrees. I had the special: Rack of Lamb with potatoes au gratin, shallots and asparagus. It was superb in every way. The lamb was seasoned nicely and cooked medium rare. The potatoes were tender and richly cheesy. The veggies were al dente. I would order this again. My husband had the sausage stuffed quail with wild rice, quince candied walnuts and charred cauliflower puree and endive. With the exception of the puree, the quail and rice were very pleasant. Neither of us cared for the charred cauliflower puree. For us, that part of the meal was inedible. Lastly we had two desserts. One was a chocolate cake with raspberry cream mousse and ganache. it was very good. I just cant remember the name of the actual dessert. We also had a chocolate soufflé that was incredible. I will order the soufflé every time. It's just that good. So there it is. A classy restaurant with great service and great food. We have found the beat restaurant in Missoula! We will be back.

Laura D.

Yelp
What can I say. We love this place. Great ambiance and food. Our hostess was wonderful and some of the best food. Made another reservation for the next trip to Missoula!

Jason W.

Yelp
I'm confused as to why there is not a line out the door of this place. The menu is creative yet unpretentious , the wine list is sublime, and the food is both filling and delicious. The vibe is casual and comfortable. The fellas that own this place are working--hosting, bartending and waiting tables--so the service is exceptional. Tonight I had perfectly cooked pork tenderloin with hogshead polenta. The taste tells me they are using fresh, local ingredients and the flavors blended perfectly. I'm not really a desert guy but I was pleased to have ordered the blueberry corn Neapolitan--wow! The flavor and texture were astonishing. I've been here several times over the last year and each time it gets better. Now, they are firing on all cylinders, and with all due respect to Scotty's, this is now the best restaurant in Missoula. Pearl should be proud!

Karlie S.

Yelp
The food was very well prepared. I got the rack of lamb. It was delicious but it does have some strong flavors so if you like mellow things I wouldn't recommend it. My husband had the short ribs and they were also delicious. The spicy mustard was the stand out flavor so if you like mustard I would recommend those. Desserts were delicious and my petit gateau was easily sharable. Service was spot on. Our server and others would frequently walk by our table to check how we are doing without interruption. They are attentive but let you have your dinner. The feel of the place is a lot of different things going on. Its classy and a little retro. You can almost get whatever feel you would like. Many different things to look at.

K M.

Yelp
Stopped by to have a lunch. I ordered their French onion soup and a prosciutto sandwich. Food was prepared nicely with good, fresh ingredients. But both the soup and sandwich were way too salty for me. Service was fine.

Kenny S.

Yelp
Amazing meal, as always at Port Rouge. This place has become our favorite for date nights since its opening. There's no one defining dish, but that's why we love coming back to try new things- oh, but if you can grab one of the in-house snickers dessert before they sell out- you must! The staff here is always thoughtful and friendly, and our experience on this night left me compelled to write this review in response to the 1 Star below. Also happened to be there the same night as MR. Jason B below, and witnessed how rude he was to the polite waitstaff, and went on to the destroy the restaurants property in the bathroom. Class. He was very much sitting in not only in the only path for other customers and waitstaff to get to their tables, but also in a fire route.

Jason B.

Yelp
Drove over from Helena for our anniversary. Had a reservation and got seated right away. Our sever was excellent. Enjoyed a couple of appetizers, seated adjacent to my wife at a two person table. I moved from across the table to be closer to her and hold hands. Another server walked by told me I can't sit there and I'm breaking fire code and walked away. A polite ask or even polite information is preferred when a dining bill is $200. He was rude AF. My wife and I took the rest of our meal to go. If your business is customer service then the approach is important. It's one thing if your a bar and its a rough and tumble joint, if it were he and I would have had more words, but again for 200$ on an anniversary how about you check the way you treat the customer. We won't be back unless it's to sit on the wrong side of a table.

Sue O.

Yelp
Amazing meal! It was my mother in law's 85th birthday. The lamb chops were delicious and the service was impeccable! Thank you! We will return.

Chris B.

Yelp
I'm sure this place is alright. However I walked in and while I was wearing relaxed attire after driving all day I was met at the door with a very welcoming "can I help you?" I wanted to walk out but I wanted to show the waiter I was surely not lost nor was there to fix something in the back. I took a bar seat and ordered from the bartender what would be a very underwhelming piece of salmon. Everything lacked flavor and they forgot my bread basket which was $9 bucks on its own. The bartender didn't put it on the ticket because it showed up at the halfway point of eating my meal.

Arthur S.

Yelp
I have visited thousands of restaurants in my life. Some of the best in the country. This restaurant had horrible service. Waitress didn't come to the table to ask if we needed a refill or napkins or anything for that matter. Not even one time. Wife ordered Braised Short Rib, and I ordered Quail. Waitress bring me a steak knife for my Quail but not for my wife's Short Rib because its braised. Food comes an hour later. My wife is trying to cut the Short Rib with a fork, to no avail, so she used my steak knife, also to no avail because it was not braised. Short Rib was like rubber bouncing around on the plate. Wife sends it back and did not want anything else. Assuming they would take it of the bill. These sneaky people did not take it off the bill, did not communicate anything to us and tried to sneak the bill back to us hoping that we didn't notice that they did not remove the Short Rib. Wife tells the host that it was not removed. Host takes the check back, did not say anything about the situation and then five minutes later brings back the bill without saying anything again. We handed them the credit card, they billed the credit card, bring the receipt to sign. We look at the receipt and they just discounted something we did not eat. Didn't say, sorry we can't take off the bill or sorry we can't take of the bill, but we can maybe discount it, nothing, just tried to sneak the bill to us hoping we wouldn't look at it. Pathetic. The quail also tasted like chewing gum. All the food was frozen previously. I also ordered the escargot, and it only had a little garlic oil in one, out of the seven, little snail containers. First and last time going there.

B D.

Yelp
Food was good. Ambiance was interesting (in a good way). Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. But there aren't enough vegetarian options so we won't be coming as often as we'd like.

C L.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this restaurant. The service was fine, the wine selection adequate. It was just the food...I'm not sure how to put this...there simply was nothing French about it. I'm pretty sure the chef has never even been to France, let alone eaten their food. I order steak frites. It came with a very heavy gloppy brown "sauce" on top and piled high with some sort of raw leafy green. I say sauce with reserve. It looked like something out of a Campbell's soup can. No exceptional flavor, not a great cut of meat. Fries were not made on site, not even hot. Had pear salad. Very heavy. Awful presentation on plates--not the delicate morsels you associate with French cuisine. The food was fair, price high, just not French. So if you're not expecting that, then enjoy!

Emily R.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and had a drink. The service was great and all the food that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled fantastic. Enjoyed the ambiance. I'll definitely come back next trip and try the food.

Maddie B.

Yelp
My husband and I had one of the best meals of our life here! We stopped in Missoula on the way back from camping at Glacier National Park and came across Brasserie Port Rouge. From start to finish, everything was outstanding. To begin, I had a sparkling white wine, and my husband had a red (rioja). We ordered 12 oysters that were on the daily special menu. The oysters, from Washington, were wonderful and fresh. For dinner, I had the pan-roasted trout stuffed with local mushrooms & Neuske's bacon, served with polenta cake, sauce vierge and creme fraiche. I absolutely loved the mushrooms and bacon part of the dish, and the trout was cooked perfectly! My husband had the rabbit, chorizo & octopus skewer, which came with snail & bean saffron risotto and piperade. He's Australian so he's serious about his seafood, like me, and he said this is one of the best meals he's had in Montana. The skewer is a bold combination of meats, but it works. Dessert was my favorite part. I got the Lumiere, which is a candle-shaped cake with burnt honey gateau, roasted orange marmalade, pastry cream, croissant brittle, and torched meringue buttercream. I enjoyed this more than words can say. Great taste--loved the croissant brittle--awesome presentation and wonderful taste. My husband had the lubrecht tart (lemon curd, pine nut cream, and spruce tip coulis in shortcrust pastry, topped with bruleed marshmallow cream). He enjoyed it thoroughly and told our waitress that the meal was outstanding start to finish. We are so happy to have found this restaurant. To top it all off, the atmosphere of the restaurant is so lovely -- awesome lighting, oyster art, unique tiling--this is my #1 recommendation for dinner in Missoula!

Sabrina C.

Yelp
Fabulous food, elegant atmosphere and amazing staff. I'd recommend making a reservation even if you decide to eat on a weekday. Everything that I had here was top notch! Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!

Jolie G.

Yelp
Perfection. Pretty much the only word that sums up our dining experience. Staff is friendly and helpful. The food is beautiful and delicious. Every bite was better than the one before. I had the snails to start. It was the first time I've had snails and it won't be the last. I had the duck crepe-wrap supreme and it's the best thing I've eaten in ages. Dessert is amazing too. It's a meal I'll remember for a long time.

Frank C.

Yelp
Very pleased with the food. Good quality ingredients. Fairly priced. Service was friendly and efficient. I'd go back when in Missoula.

Ed P.

Yelp
Food very good. Service very good. Ambiance very good. Drinks good, too. Will return to Porte!

Scott I.

Yelp
Delicious meal and the service was great too. Had the pork shoulder and chicken for dinner. Dessert was delicious too.

American P.

Yelp
SWANKY BABY. Go here for a special event or if you're craving class. A real gem of fine dining in Missoula. It's worth the hype

Mikaela C.

Yelp
The Duck Confit made me cry tears of joy. Very pleasant atmosphere! We will go every year for our anniversary!

Geoffrey P.

Yelp
I recently went to Brasserie Porte Rouge as the chef is a James Beard Award nominee. The ambiance is casual or intimate depending on whether you get a booth or one of the tables in the open area. I opted for a booth and was not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I started with the cheese board that offered a blue, a Manchengo and a triple cream Brie. All were delicious. For dinner I had the New Zealand salmon on a bed of wild rice pilaf and a gratin of endive and potato. The salmon was spot on perfect. I found the pilaf to be a bit toothsome but otherwise enjoyable. I found the gratin a bit under seasoned but still very good. For dessert how could I pass up the chocolate soufflé? It was the high point of the meal. Baked to perfection it was transcendent. Porte Rouge has a very good wine list that pairs well with what is offered on the menu. I enjoyed Porte Rouge. I would recommend Porte Rouge for a romantic nights dining experience.

Ally B.

Yelp
Wonderful meal! We all ordered the halibut special with hollandaise sauce. Amazing!! Butterscotch pudding for dessert, which was also fantastic. Can't wait to return!!

Lynda W.

Yelp
Excellent early evening with friends! Three of us had great drinks and lots of laughs. The food was outstanding, but the service from the host and our server, Christina, was outstanding and made the event even better. Thanks to all!

Paul B.

Yelp
Charming atmosphere. Nice bar. Excellent French onion soup. Enjoyed the steak frites

Michelle K.

Yelp
Love the food and the service always. Kind of a bummer they only serve beer and wine.

Rowdy B.

Yelp
I don't know how but this was very very good French food seres promptly w no reservations came on a Thursday. 4 people 1 got the Halibut steak 1 flat iron steak 1 fillet and I got the pork shoulder which was awesome dessert we got olive oil cake and butterscotch very very good

Jessica P.

Yelp
Absolutely no complains. Please take advantage of the French options you won't find anywhere else in Missoula, you can get French fries and duck confit somewhere else. Since it's also known as an oyster bar we of course took advantage of that and was not disappointed! All plate flavors were on point, server was very educated on the menu and the decor was cozy and clean. For arriving on the fifth day of opening everything was timed perfectly. We will be back soon!

Rory J.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Porte Rouge. The atmosphere is really nice, unique and classy. The food was also great. French onion soup, steak ftites, and lamb special were all delicious. The service was friendly and helpful. It's an upscale restaurant with a casual vibe. Highly recommend.

Steve L.

Yelp
So we decided to try this place, made reservations for 8pm on Friday. Decided to eat outside. First things first, the waitress was excellent, very responsive but not smothering. We had the French onion soup first. It was excellent, the broth flavorful, just really good. She had the ratatouille which was very flavorful and interesting. I had the steak frite with brandy cream sauce. The steak was tender and excellent, the brandy cream sauce was sublime. We wrapped up with the Coco Lolo which was also amazing. Service excellent, food excellent, a little pricey but we will definitely return.

James V.

Yelp
Enjoyed a very delicious meal here -- halibut special and vegan eggplant ratatouille. The chocolate and rasberry desert was creative and tasted amazing.

Kandy B.

Yelp
Amazing good wonderful atmosphere and the service was great! Had the duck crepe and lamb chops they were devine!! This is a great find!

John D.

Yelp
Food was good. Service is marginal at best. As one of Missoula's more up-scale restaurants I expected better service and professionalism. Plenty of service staff but, service was slow and unorganized, It was a Tues. eve and they were not that busy. Wait-staff was dressed poorly- like college kids in biology class. You need a dress code, does not have to be fancy, just nice and matching would add an aire of professionalism. Your staff/owners need to focus on the total experience of dining out. If I just want to eat- I can go to Five-Guys for much less. I won't be back or recommend anytime soon. Very Unimpressed!

Lafe D.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! Our dinner was absolutely out of this world good! Service was excellent and the food was spectacular! 10 out of 10, will eat here again!

John S.

Yelp
This place really exceeded expectations. Great service, delicious and authentic menu, great wine, great value. Pearl would be proud.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
Excellent service and the bartender make a perfect Manhattan. I had the duck and it was marvelous. Nice and cozy setting, the wait staff was very helpful and humorously efficient. This is a must stop while in town.

Connie L.

Yelp
What a delightful surprise to find this splendid creatively decorated restaurant when traveling from Seattle to my old home in Gt Falls, Montana. This Missoula establishment has it pegged! I ordered the cheese board which was covered in delightful little treasures like the little quince square which was delicious. The salami and other sausage was very good and it had a nice assortment of flavorful cheeses. There were also treats like dried blueberries and the care in preparation of each part of this board clearly showed. Brasserie Porte Rouge was equal to any Seattle restaurants we've been to, and we've visited many. Can't wait to visit them again...and did I mention, the service was top notch! Give them a try and I'll bet you'll be writing their next 5 star review.

Joan H.

Yelp
The sausage stuffed quail and duck breast were so flavorful. So tender and juicy! The halibut special with mushrooms and lemon sauce with couscous! Highly recommend

Meg H.

Yelp
Went here for the first time tonight. The service was a little sketchy ... they tried to give us someone else's meals, but the situation was quickly remedied. The food was incomparable!! We would highly recommend both the quail and the soft shell crab. The wine was perfect. Look forward to going again in the near future.
